Totally a "As good as it gets!" We came here with a group of 5 plus our toddler. Now before you get all judgmental on our wine tasting day with our toddler, we took a limo. No drinking and driving.
On to the review:
This place not only has good wines but has the personality to back them. Somehow they even grow their own grapes in the Livermore valley and don't have the Livermore taste. You know that odd not tannin taste, but that almost smog/dirt like bite in some (many) of the wines? They don't have it.
Rich was our guy there, they had another two people, but Rich helped us at the bar and our our tour. He rocked. He was friendly, knew what his wife was making, and knew how to keep us entertained. They took requests for the music in the background, what was on the TV, and what wines we wanted to try. Next time, I'm coming here for the wines the personality and bringing a cigar to enjoy on their patio. I keep talking about their personalty, but come for the wines, you won't be disappointed.
A rather hard place to find; it seems I can only find it if I'm not looking for it. The exterior/view of the winery is amazing. It's also great that they have tables and chairs for people who would enjoy the view with a glass (or in my case a bottle).
Fortunately, this place took into consideration that there could be a lot of people swarming the place and have a large tasting room. I have only met Rich on my visits and he is not only friendly, but very knowledgeable on wines.
The wines themselves range from mediocre to wonderful, but the prices are a little up there.
Okay I went to Tenuta because Nancy was buying something from me. Next thing I know, its 5:30, and Nancy has talked me into a small glass of wine. She was such a kick in the pants, I could not refuse. I was not sure if the wine was as good as I thought, or if I just really liked Nancy so I bought a few bottles and now I'm hooked. The Primotivo is my favorite but the Chardonnay is a close 2nd.
Each wine we tried tasted worse than the other one. There are lots of good wineries around, so it was such a waste.
Always have a blast at Tenuta, Wine's are good, company is great. Rich is fun to hang out with and so happy he was able to take us on a tour of the facilities how cool!
Fabulous little spot with awesome artwork display. I purchased two myself at a night venue they hosted. The friendliest owner Nancy and her boyfriend showed us around, and we tasted right out of the barrels. YEAH, a rare treat! Nice place to visit along the trail and awesome venue to host your own events at.
I give it a three for the nice folks and the great rustic, down home feel to the place, but the wine was less than a 3 star.
Another "WooHoo! As good as it gets" experience. My daughter and I came here today to pick up my Wine Club choices and to buy a couple of bottles of Primitivo to take back to Texas with her. Rich, the Wine Club guru, is such a delightful person. It is a nice experience to go to a winery where you are greeted with a hug :-) The owner, Nancy (and Rich's significant other) is such a nice, warm person. The Rose has now been released -- we got it with our quarterly wine club order a month early.

Good wine, great atmosphere, fun pourers, beautiful outdoor patio seating, and a very GENEROUS host! What more could you want. In fact the DJ let me sing Bon Jovi... talk about personal service!
Thoroughly enjoyed this vineyard.
We went wine tasting this weekend in the beautiful Livermore Valley Wine Country. Tenuta was the 2nd stop on our hit list and it is a must do when you're touring the L.V.W.C.!
The pouring staff was warm and friendly; many of them are volunteers and they love their community service! It was a Dionysian event from the moment we stepped inside the tasting room. Colorful art and original glass bead jewelry are tastefully displayed for purchase. Rich has a large collection of CD's that he spins while you enjoy your flight, generously poured with no pressure tactics from the delightful staff.
The tall talker that I am challenged Rich to find a couple of tunes in his stash and he did just that. Before I knew it, the microphone was handed my way and I was doing karaoke, cajoling my friends into the act.
We noshed on cheese and crackers while we sipped and we even got a tour of where the magic happens (wine barrels). The whites were fruity and tasty but my absolute favorite was their Red Zin. It was so jammy and bold, yum!
The Tasting Room is open Saturday & Sunday: 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
or by Appointment. 633 Kalthoff Commons, Livermore CA PH#925.960.1006
I went wandering through the Livermore wine country and came across Tenuta vineyards. The location is scenic with a nice view of the vineyards from the hill. It is off the main road in the southern part of the valley. There are a few old buildings near by, but the Tenuta winery has their tasting room in a modern building with art from local artists on the walls. The server was cordial and the feeling was casual. There was a group of women on an outing having a good time tasting the wines. They added to the fun as they shared their experiences about a few other wineries and we compared notes on the tastings. The wines at Tenuta were excellent and the pours were generous. I bought couple of bottles of their estate wines as they were especially tasty.
Maybe we just went on an off day....I was very excited to visit Tenuta, yet not so impressed with my experience there. The wine was so-so, but overpriced for what it was. The owners/pourers did not really talk to us much. Their slogan "Give us 30 minutes and we'll be friends for life", did not hold true with us. I gave them the three stars for the gorgeous patio area, and the fact that we brought our 15 month old and they allowed him to run around freely.... We did buy a bottle of wine to be nice, but I doubt we will be returning anytime soon.
any tasting room that includes an impromptu rendition of "sweet caroline" means it must be pretty laid back.
it was our last stop of the day (translation we were quite buzzed), so while i can't really confidently tell you about the quality of their wine (or even what kind), the tour, which included barrel tasting, was pretty fun. we also did some additional tasting in their tasting room/karaoke lounge.
i don't know what became of their high hopes for a reality tv show, but these people were great and definitely a good stop.
What a disappointment!! Even their best wines were nothing out of the ordinary and they wanted $40 a bottle!! I think $10 a bottle would have been more fitting. Don't get me wrong, most are not bad (some are, though), they are all just non-descript - and I am a long-time wine appreciater.
On top of it, their "Holiday Event" is a bunch of hooey. It's the oldest dirtiest trick that can be played: The Bait and Switch. Bait you with something fun to get you in the door, then you find out about the undelivered promises. It is advertised that Santa would be there during the event, billed to be noon - 5pm, so we brought our 18-month old daughter. Not only did their Santa not show up, their staffers didn't even have the decency to be honest about his absence or to apologize. They tried to string us a long (20 minutes more, 10 minutes more...) and NEVER ONCE did they apologize for the inconvenience.
You try telling an 18-month old that her lunch will be an hour late because Santa couldn't get his act together to show up on time. They don't have a restaurant, so we couldn't even get some food for our child. So, we left very disappointed, but not before we returned the bottle of mediocre wine we bought out of courtesy - our hard-earned money is better spent elsewhere where our business is appreciated.
To top it all off, it is their OWNER (Rich) who no doubt passes down the deceitful business practices. He was made aware of our disappointing visit, then emailed me and pretended as though he wanted to make things better, then flaked altogether. No wonder the staff is the way they are, they have been trained to lie by the one who signs their paychecks.
Tenuta was an unexpected surprise. Two of my friends and I started out wine tasting with no itinerary in mind. We parked and strolled in to the tasting room. It looked great, but the sun was calling us. We were there on a Monday and nobody else was there so Nancy encouraged us to go outside for our tasting. She brought out all the wines for us to taste and some yummy snacks. Nancy sat down and talked with us for a bit. It was a fun and social day. By the time we finished, the other tasting rooms were closing or were already closed but we didn't care.
