Been here a few times to wash my car and their self-service setup generally gets the job done on the cheap. I do have one gripe, which is that the vacuums stink, the suction is wimpy so while they get some of the dirt out it's almost not worth the effort.

On weekends you can expect a bit of a crowd, but it's typically not that bad of a wait. Better to have in the neighborhood than not I suppose, so it's a'right.

Better than nothing (barely). As mentioned by others, the vacuums hardly work. The "high pressure" wash is more like medium pressure (at best). Plus, there are a bunch of crazy pigeons here that jump on your car.  I've been to better coin car washes, unfortunately, none of them are in SF. Would be nice if this place had a "spotless dry" final rinse option like some other coin car washes. All in all, I think I'm heading back to the Chevron on South Van Ness. It's expensive, but they do a better job than I can do at this place.

this place rocks, I prefer washing myself and doing the elbow grease before church on sunday than blow dry my hair, in my big butch 4x4, and on satudarys when its hot, I can win the wet t-shirt contest.

I love co-op carwashes idiots in house payed 30 to 50 dollars to do this, Im thrifty and also like to massage my baby, my big butch texas pickup truck that has been cost to coast on i-10 and on vacations, and im a bit of a redneck, wild, sexy, yuppie, geek, gothic  girl.

who knows a good buy when she sees one

Cheap and quick - does what it says on the tin.

Like others, I'm not paying 25$ for the same kind of wash I could do myself. That's nearly 30 long necks for 5 minutes manual work. I'd wash my mother-in-law's undercrackers for 20 beers, so this is a bit of a bargin for me.

Echoing the advice on here - "Don't use the brush on your car body" - it will scratch the paintwork and annoy the hell out of you. I bring a sponge along - $2 from wallmart and comes with a rough bit on one side to work at any dirt patches which works wonders.

Vacuum station is also good value 75c which lasted long enough to clear out my entire inside.

I'm never going here again. The water pressure is absolutely sad. Two hands and a bucket would be more efficient. And they can't be trying to save water, because it takes that much longer to rinse, especially with the over-concentrated soap that they use. Sure, my experience today was tainted by the dude with the white Lexus and chrome-spastic rims who was blasting death metal for everyone to enjoy...(I think everyone forgot to thank him) But this isn't the first time this place has left me regretting that I didn't drop 20 bucks at Oak and Divis. Here I can't even get change for a ten. And after 8 bucks I've still got soap stains.
If you want a real DIY car wash, with real water pressure that's run by nice folks, check out the place on Bayshore at Sunnydale.

if you're an infrequent driver like me, why bother spending 15, 20 bucks on a car that will only collect dust for another 2 weeks before it hits the road again?

$3 self-service car wash!
5 minute cycle: soak, soap, rinse, wax
add quarters = more time

5 car wash stations
car vacuums
change machines
dispensers for towels, air fresheners, tire cleaner (50 cents to $1)

and yes, water pressure may not be the best. but how much should you expect from $3 car washes??

In my opinion, self-car washes are all about the same as long as they are in a decent neighborhood.  This one is conveniently located near Costco so I try to stop by when i do my monthly warehouse grocery trip.

The reason I gave it 5 stars is because the last time I was there the manager was there when I pulled into a bay that he was just getting ready to clean out.  He asked me if I would pull into another bay empty bay and gave me $5 in quarters for my wash.  He seemed like a really nice older guy so I will definitely choose to give him my money again over someone else.

I am a diagnosed car-wash addict. I appreciate a shiny clean car more then many other things in life, and constantly find me checking over the car I drive for a reason to take it to get washed, even if it's not my car!

So, new to the city, after landing a place to live and a job, the very next thing I did was begin my search for a good place to wash my car. I first came across one on Geary, which, as you will see in my review, belongs in some sort of Car-meets-freddy-kruger horror flick. Dismayed, I drove around this city for what seemed like days, never tiring, keeping my eyes open for the holy grail of car-wash spots I knew must exist in a city of this size......

And then, like a mirage in a desert, a place appeared on the horizon (well, more like ... just past the hood of my car), and I knew all at once, that this WAS the place I had been looking for!

(Start useful review here)
Allow me to present, the 10th and Harrison Car Wash - the best place in the city to wash your car yourself. If you enjoy washing your car as much as I do, and don't have the place or tools to do it at home, then this is the place for you.

I read Joe. R's review, and it seems that the prices have some up since 2005, now it requires you spend a minimum of $3. This is no big deal, however, because, unless your some sort of car-wash superhero, there is no way in hell your going to be able to wash your car in 3 minutes.

$5, and a hurry-up attitude gets you a rinse, soap, rinse, and wax job for your car.

Other notes:

1) They sell shammy's there to dry your car off for 50 cents, and armour-all for the inside for $1.
2) Make sure you give the soap brush tool a good blast with the water first before ever letting it touch your car. I have seen...."less experienced" people there scrub their TIRES, and then without thought, use the brush now full of rocks and dirt, to scrub the hood of their car. Actually, if you have a new car, or one that you would cry if you saw a scratch in the paint, don't even think of using that brush on anything other then your wheels.

Overall, great spot, I go there about once (at least) a week.

Rock star car wash... if you're willing to do the work yourself. Pump in $3 worth of quarters for 5 minutes worth of wash/soap/wax. If you're going on your own, you can just barely get it all done in time - think of it as a fun race, and I had a ball... people probably thought I was wacky when I raced around the car laughing trying to beat the clock... I got myself soaked, but I thought it was hilarious.

When you're done with the wash, drive over and vacuum your car for 75 cents. You can probably do a complete cleanup of your car for about $5 if you're willing to spend the time and make the effort.

I'm too cheap to pay someone $25 or more to wash my car for me, especially when for $3 I can do it myself and get to play with spray hoses, washer brushes and more while I'm at it. This is a fun place to shiny up your car, and it's also conveniently located next to 101 so you can hop off at 9th, wash your car and hop back on again at 10th. Very handy.

Yes, friends, it is possible to hand-wash your own car in San Francisco.  This is the place to do it - about $5 covers 7 or so minutes of pressure washer time and vacuuming.  I searched for a hand-wash place for about 6 months after I moved to San Francisco, so I'm quite pleased to review this place.

75 cents for a self-vacuum. And there is a change machine right by. How convenient!

I used to go to a coin-op watergun car wash back in Colorado.  I was pretty bummed to find that SFers apparently all pay $30 and wait half an hour to get their car hand washed.  Turns out it's not really the case and I managed to find 10th&Harrison Car Wash.

It's alright.  Beats the $30 hand washes.  The real problem is that the gun has lame water pressure, even the "high pressure" settings.  It took me a long time (and three extra bucks) to rinse my car because the rinse gun just wasn't powerful enough to get the suds off.  And I've got a small car, so I'm sure people with regular sized cars, trucks, or vans would have more trouble.

I've been to Always Open Car Wash and it had real waterguns.  I'll definitely be going there instead of this place.

Very good place to wash your car. Four stalls so there's less wait time, not too expensive either - 7-9 bucks will do you (if you're like me, which means you hardly ever wash your car so it takes a little more scrubbing than the norm... and you don't have anything to dry your car with so you have to pay for 2 or 3 of those $.50 towel 2-packs).

The location and price are definitely a plus especially because there are not any other self service spray car wash locations in the area.  It's about $3 for 5 minutes and you can add single quarters in addition to get a few more much needed minutes.  My issue at hand is the very low water pressure coming out of the hose.  It is worthless!  Also, way too much soap concentration and stone cold water.  Most decent spray wash places put a little warm water into the wash mode, not here.  My advice is go find a garden hose instead.

This car wash is very economic but not super efficient. How do you work the wax function? Secondly, I wish I thought to use my own towel for drying. I spent $1.50 just on disposable towels. Once I used the towels there was no where to throw them away. People were just leaving them on the ground. Also, I kinda wish they had more of a web presence other than on this site. I couldn't find them on Google Maps. Other than that... I agree. Nice place.
