Good, cheap sushi in downtown los angeles. My only gripe? Parking is a b#%ch. Street parking is $2.00 an hour for street metered parking or $4 nearby. You can park at the strip mall across the street, but you would have to get validation to get $1.20 flat parking. (My friend works in the shops there)
yellow-tail is my favorite filler sushi @ $3.99 for 5-6 pieces
Presentation was nice, the atmosphere was pretty decent for the size of the restaurant. We went during lunch time and the four of us spent around $16 per person on just family style sushi.
They're special plates include korean bbq chicken, seeing as the owners are korean as someone else pointed out.
Service was good too! I'd recommend this to a friend for cheap sushi
Out of all the Japanese place in Little Tokyo Tenno is just OK. It lures people with the 50% off sign and huge menu with prices. That way you don't have to go in and leave if you don't like what they have to offer:) I passed that place many many times, but I never ate there, cause I know there are so many better Japanese places in Little Tokyo. This time around, we decided to try, cause we did not want to pay that much.
To our surprise it wasn't all that bad! We had a spectrum of dishes: rolls, sushi, salad, udon and tempura. I seriously say that the udon soup was the bomb - it had the right amount of all the ingredients, including tofu pockets, yum!
Sushi and rolls were fresh and tasty, and the menu consisted of variety of choices from simple 50% off rolls to crazy "special" rolls. The menu, overall, has many choices, so it's a good place for somebody that wants to try a little bit of everything from Japanese cuisine. We paid 20$ each (4 people total) and we fully satisfied with trying and sharing each others dishes.
The only draw back was slow service. I am not sure why, but it took a really long time to order and get any attention from the waiter, even though it was Friday night! We ended up paying up front, cause it was to slow to wait for somebody to take our money.
Yeah, this place is just an ok place. I have been to other places in J-town that were a lot better.
One of the tell tale signs that the place wasn't great is that the owners were not Japanese. They were Korean.
The place charges for Kimchi! I mean, I understand that it's tough times, but the stuff, from what I heard from the other people that came with me, was at the ji-gae stage (meaning really fermented and was ready to be cooked in a stew).
I would just try other places before trying this one. The advertisment of 1/2 priced sushi shouldn't be enough of a draw to come here.
I love this place. Prices are very cheap and the sushi is excellent. Nothin fancy just good suchi bar. Parking does suck, but its downtown. My recomendation everyhing. LOL but you can try ONO sushi roll cut, and the Baby Lobster Roll amaizing. If you live in downtown it is a must.
My gf's at work and I decided to venture over to the Fashion district to shop since we had summer fridays at work which means we get out at noon...whoop whoop. Four hungry girls is not a sight to be seen so we settled for Tenno since our first choice had a line like there was no tomorrow. Don't let the 50% off sushi fool you, they advertised this for a reason! Thats because the foods uhhh terrible. I feel bad for writing such a bad review but I felt like asking for my money back after our meal. I had a crab hand roll which turned out to be imitation crab rolled up with rice wrapped with seaweed which was not worth mentioning. I tried to stay on the safe side and ordered their fried rice which was decent, probably the only thing that was good about this place. My gf's decided to order ramen thinking "eh who can really screw up ramen"...wasn't such a good choice. If you're looking for good sushi then I don't recommend this place. If you're a first time sushi eater then this place isnt so bad.
The nigiri at Tenno was so-so. It wasn't very fresh but it wasn't bad either. Thankfully, I was here with friends who are all about rolls, and most of those were good. Philadelphia, teriyaki scallop, spicy tuna, and some kind of ninja roll were all really good. I didn't like the teriyaki chicken roll (yeah, it's a roll with teriyaki chicken) that much, but the others were really good.
Prices are good, they have that "half-price sushi all the time!!" bullshit going, which means many of their items are pretty cheap. During happy hour you can get a draft Kirin with edamame for $2.
Ambiance is pleasant, with low lights and nice decor. Service was reasonable, slow at times but always friendly.
Food is decent -- nicely presented -- some of the rolls a little over the top and a lot of them include fried or tempura elements (not a bad thing if you aren't a fan of raw fish) -- and they tend to put their secret sauce on everything. Decent, just not my favorite sushi or the best quality sushi I have had....
Good value -- but why do places do things like 50% off all of the time? Doesn't that really mean it is not 50% off -- and perhaps just a decent value? Did they ever or will they ever charge full price?
That being said, I love their Korean tacos -- delicious and a great deal at $2 a pop. I would come back and pay $4 a taco if they ever decide to charge full price.
2.5 stars sushi, 3 stars service, 4 stars Korean tacos....
Korean tacos -- best food idea of the century so far.
I can't remember much about what I ate...and it was only a few days ago.
That tells me two things:
1. it wasn't awful.
2. it wasn't so delicious that it was memorable.
The location is fairly easy to find, parking for $4 nearby, the have a lot on the menu that you can order, the atmosphere is comfortable and good for an after work dinner with a friend.
The prices were totally reasonable and I left satisfied. I just can't get up in arms about how crappy this place is, even though I want to be a cool sushi girl.
This is the kind of place that has a long list of rather silly sushi rolls, and three kinds at that: cold, baked, and tempura-ed. That alone ought to tell you something, as I know Yelp is populated by gourmands and foodies and sushi obsessives.
They have your usual more dignified sushi selections as well but the quality of the fish and even the size of the sushi themselves is nothing to holler about. Service was on the slow side and our waiter was pretty unattentive.
I wanted to stick to our old standby Suehiro Cafe on 2nd Street (*oh so homey and uncomplicated*) but somehow we found ourselves weirdly drawn to this place tonight. Still, we ate a lot and liked mostly everything I ate, including the aforementioned ridiculous (but rather spicy and tasty) tempura-ed shrimp roll.
It's definitely better than those chain restaurants, Kabuki Sushi, I guess? Wow, jeeze, I'm sorry. Typing that sentence just really bummed me out.
this place is good if you're low on cash but want to grab some ok sushi and grab a few beers and not break the bank.. definitely had better, but it gets the job done on a budget...
ok the real reason i'm reviewing this place.... has anyone one else been there when they are looping the Yanni Live in Concert DVD??? No joke they had a yanni concert on repeat on the tv and speakers... so we did what anyone else would do... got completely sloshed and started our drunken running commentary, to which I think they were a little offended bc we were laughing so hysterically... plan B? start looping NSYNC videos without a pause.... this is probably what they think the white people like so they came hard with it....
even tho it sounds awful, it was so f*ckin hilarious of a night (thanks 2 medical and sake bombs) that i have a strange soft spot for this place..
80 something reviews and 3 stars....... falls right in line with my opinion.
I think tenno is a good Korean Japanese Sushi restaurant but fails to excel an anything. The menu is large and redundant with items appearing as dinner specials, or dinner combos, or single dinner item. However, the food is definitely not the worst. Can't really complain about 24/7 50% off sushi rolls.
I have to say, if I came here and only had the hwe dup bap, I would probably give this place four stars. IT was light and delicious. The fish pieces seemed fresh and not necessarily "left over" and it wasn't too filling.
The servers are nice, when asked about the beer specials, she mentioned $1.99 draft kirin and edammame. It's a happy hour special 4-6 pm (not sure exactly) but she gave it to us at 9pm anyway.
All in all if you are looking for good fish, walk a couple more blocks to komasa, or even across the street to sushi gen. But if you are a lazy mofo that found parking after 20 minutes in the boons close to skid row and the first restaurant you see has a 50% off sign. You are probably going to give Tenno a shot.
**Ask the servers to put on the Beyonce Concert. They are always playing it there. "I don't think you're ready! for this Jelly!"
Wow, I'm surprised at the negativity in reviews regarding their half-off prices. I never got a peek at the bill bc my hosts treated me to dinner my first night in LA, but I would have gladly paid for my share. The food was delicious!
What's with the complaining about not enough rice in the rolls?! If you come to NY, lots of the sushi restaurants will stuff you with tons of rice, and not enough fish! I was reveling in the fact that there was less rice here.
I don't even remember most of what they ordered, but everything was fresh, and there was a big selection. The sea urchin roll was amazing. I've never had anything like it before. It tastes like the fat in a lobster head, except fattier and creamier.
This place set a precedent for all my meals in LA. I kept wishing I could go back.
I got to see a Beyonce concert on the TV. HAHA Who cares? You go to a restaurant to eat, and as long as the noise isn't too loud and the screen isn't too bright, you ignore it. Is good conversation not enough these days?
I love this place. I come here at least once a week. The sushi is great and the prices are pretty reasonable. All the rolls are unique and tasty. I can't start to say what is my favorite. I love everything from their menu.
Fabouloso!!!
whoa i'm just as surprised as Jennifer about the negative reviews. I'm quite a fan of this place and me and the hubs come here all the time.
food has great presentation, good flavor (love that nothing was over salted)
the service is mediocre but it's still tolerable.
I love the atmosphere--- it's dark, cool and feels like a bar... what I don't understand is why they had n'sync music videos on loop
definitely check it out.
Shame on me for coming here when Sushi Gen was only across the street and Komasa was down the block. Seriously shame on me. I really should know better than to wander into a sushi place with a big sign that says "50% off all rolls". But hunger will often times impair my judgement.
This place is definitely not authentic and definitely not up to par with the surrounding competitors. I ordered a hand crab roll, thinking I was going to get some warm crab wrapped in nori, boy was I wrong! Who sends out crab hand rolls with sticks of imitation crab poking out of it, I was insulted. The spicy tuna roll wasn't bad, but then again I don't think I've ever had a bad spicy tuna roll. My friend ordered the fried rice, she figured it was pretty safe, and yea it was tasty. We also shared the Shio Ramen, it didn't taste like any Shio ramen I've ever had. Super bland, and super soggy noodles.
We went at an awkward hour, between lunch and dinner, there were a lot of waiters around and they were all a little overly attentive. I think we seriously had 8 different waiters approach our table, asking if we had ordered.
The place is cute, parking is a bitch, was it worth it? That would be a no.
MMMMMMMMMM.....................Japan rolls!!!!! Me so hungry!!!! Been here a couple times for lunch......ambiance is cool....makes me forget i'm about a mile from skid row. Thought the food was just ok......until the lobster rolls! They were the best rolls from Japan I ever had!! Daleeeeeeecious!!! They were both sweet and spicy.......just perfecto! It's a bit pricey here but would come back again and again just for the lobster rolls. My meal was about $20 bucks and consisted of Salmon Sushi(2 pieces), miso soup, a crunchy roll and a lobster roll(Yes I'm a fat ass) See you at Tenno Sushi Mr. Man from Japan!!!
This place is actually not that bad-- I mean the outside looked more like a gift shop with the 50% off deals, but when you get into the inside you'll actually be amazed how dark, dim, and nice it is.
However, even with the 50% off sushi, it wasn't all that great of a deal-- and the sushi didn't have as much rice (sorry, for those of you who like rice). Additionally, there wasn't anything too special about the baked scallop roll or the cone roll-- I sorta wished they did a better job on these rolls though. It would've gotten a 5/5 stars if their sushi was better along with the price.
On the other hand, I ABSOLUTELY adore and love their BBQ beef ribs burritos and tacos-- they were absolutely amazing based on the BBQ beef ribs seasoning and taste. It's like the same price as the Kogi Truck, but no wait and slightly different flavors. With these burritos and tacos, I do think it made my experience here a bit more interesting cause it was so delicious with these tacos and burritos in a Japanese cuisine.
I so so wanna come here again for their burritos and tacos--
side note, for those of you who want A LOT of meat, I suggest you get the BBQ beef ribs burrito while the veggies lover should get the tacos.
I end up here more often than I like to admit, mostly because it's all of a sudden Dario B.'s fave place to get sushi haha (see below)...
Not everything is fantastic here, but you have to know what to get. I wouldn't get the Little Tokyo Roll (I think that's what it was called). Prices are decent enough, and I have to agree that they make their lobster rolls well. The mackerel was really fresh when I had it as well. Staples like Philly rolls and spicy tuna are never a miss here.
I like the fact that it has good seating and servers are a mixed bag. That's why I dock them a star even though I've been here more than once.
I'm pretty amused by what they show on their TVs. One screen will show a sport (like Laker basketball) and another will have something like Justin Timberlake or Beyonce in concert.
I never have (and never will) move on to the Korean food or tacos here. It doesn't look appetizing to me on any level. I heard the Kogi BBQ people are annoyed by their adoption of the K-tacos, though they gave the Calbi truck props... drama!
There are better places in Little Tokyo to get sushi, but when other places are busy or closed, Tenno is it. They don't mess up on majority of their rolls, but don't expect anything orgasmic.
I knew it was a bad idea, but we were frustrated and hungry so the die was cast. It's half priced, but the prices were overpriced to begin with so it's actually regular price. Don't be fooled. It's like going to J.Crew when there's a 20% sale and the shirt was already marked too high. We had Sushi-Gen a few days earlier so the comparison is like choosing between tap and Fuji water.
The quality and freshness of the fish was sacrificed at the altar by the young chefs. We couldn't finish the food, it was so difficult to swallow. We boxed most of it up and I had to eat it the next day when I was desperately hungry.
As my Lil buddy J.C said..."lobster rolls....Daleeeeeecious!" Also tried the calamari roll, crunchy roll and the rainbow roll and they were okay. Their lunchboxes are also okay and not that pricey ($12). The ambiance is pretty cool and okay to kill time and have some drinks.
50% sushi at inflated normal prices, which doesn't give you too much of a discount in the end.
their rainbow roll was standard at $8.95 with thick pieces of sashimi to adorn the top of CA rolls.
udon is hit or miss: the first time i was here, my friend's noodles were so overcooked that it broke before it entered your mouth. but today, i had the seafood udon ($12.95! hot DOG, that's expensive!) and it was pretty good with a nice seafood variety (squid, mussels, shrimp)
find ample parking along traction!
I found it! I found my fav place in J-town (well for the time being) that combines reasonable prices and good food (besides Daikokuya). Im not a sushi snob but I aint going to eat shit either. If that makes sense, which....Im guessing no now that I read it lol. But, you get it. This obviously is no Katsuya but its definitely not a Sushi Mac. Its a nice balance in between leaning more towards the former. Their 50% off sushi selection is larger than most restaurants' 50% off menu. And the salmon is cooked with yakitori mushrooms, which is delicious!
The service was OK. I can tell how service can get spotty though. The place was busy and it seemed there were only 3-5 servers the whole night. Now, Ive read about the horrible service below and I think I know why. There's this one waitress who just doesn't seem to smile. She looks miserable and she's prolly concerned about the economy. That has to be it, she's mad at Arnold. Besides that, if you're looking for solid food, good prices, prompt (not necessarily super friendly or lightning fast) service, no to less wait (unlike Komasa or Daikokuya) then Tenno is your place.
Finally went this place where sushi is 50% off all day, everyday. I ended up not getting the sushi though.... Anyway, I got the lunch bento box with salmon teriyaki - and it's your standard lunch bento: miso soup, salad, CA roll, tempura, gyoza for $9.95 - not bad but it also wasn't great. I found the salmon to be a little on the tough side. The tempura was great, crispy outside, warm soft goodness on the inside. But like I said, it wasn't anything great.
I'll have to come back and try the sushi though. It's a nice restaurant, the servers were pleasant but not attentive, and it was pretty packed during lunch.
OK, yes, we need to start Yelping before entering.
And yes, they got me with the promise of those 50% off sushi deals. But my husband and kiddo didn't want any of those cheap sushi pieces, b/c they didn't include their faves. So we ended up with their full-priced menu, anyway.
Setting aside the outrageous $1.50 per person tea charge, the meal was otherwise meh-to-OK. And for one bento box, one buckwheat noodles, one ikura nigiri, a miso soup, and a one-piece shrimp tempura side---grand total--$33 plus tax. for three still-hungry people.
Great sushi at a decent price. We sat at the sushi bar and had a great time enjoying our food and talking with the chef (is that what they're called?).
The atmosphere is a little more upscale than some other places in Little Tokyo but its still very laid back.
Only two items that didn't make it five stars. The other staff helping us. First, before we even got our food, and had another chance to order other drinks, we were brought our receipt. We had a puzzled look as did the chef we were talking to. He had some words with the waitress and had that taken care of.
When we went to pay we were charged twice for everything, but was easily taken care of without attitude once we pointed it out.
Definite favorite in Little Tokyo.
Lately, Tenno Sushi is my first choice for sushi when I come into Little Tokyo. Before that I always stopped to eat at Zencu.
Yes, the neon red signs and the loudly large "50% OFF" signs do make you question the quality of the food. And for the most part, the food is very tasty and appetizing overall! I have had both very fresh, satisfying sushi, but occasionally I've had rushed sushi that tastes questionable here. The inside decor is very lowkey and comfortable with low lighting, many tables, a sushi bar, and several television sets that play Beyonce/ Mariah Carey/ PhantomOfTheOpera live concerts or Sports. I actually think that David Bromstand could design it brighter.
I mainly keep coming back to Tenno Sushi for one thing: LOBSTER ROLLS! They make their lobster rolls the way I like it: cold California Rolls on the bottom with fresh, baked lobster and sauce on top. For some reason, other sushi places don't make it this way. But it is so satisfying and tasty!
Another incentive to keep returning to Tenno Sushi is their FREE membership, which doesn't seem to have any benefits aside from the three FREE $5 gift certificate cards, which you can even redeem at your first visit.
In terms of service, I get the impression that the male servers have actually been much more attentive than the female ones I've had. Fortunately, the servers here are mostly male. They do have a lot of elaborate sushi plates, but I mainly stick to lobster rolls, in addition to basic mackarel, shrimp, and tamago sushi. And since they do serve simple sushi dishes that are appetizing and fresh, then I will keep coming back.
Also, they open later till 11PM.
Went here with my capoeira group after a whole day of performing and we were starving. We were totally attracted to the "Stimulus Menu".
Once we were seated, it was bad. The waitress didn't come to our table in a timely manner. We waited a good 10-15 and had to flag someone down. They got most of our sushi orders wrong but by that point we were so damn hungry that we ate anything.
When I was waiting for my last order I waited a long time and when i went to cancel they said they had forgotten anyway and never put it in. Fuck this place. It goes to show you that there are WAY better places out here in Little Tokyo anyway.
2 stars only for the fact that they were playing DVDs of Mariah Carey's music videography and a Beyonce concert.
Ok, I'm going to do all of you a favor and list the major warning signs for bad Japanese. You can let me know if I'm wrong.
1. Major neon light show outside of the door with huge 50% off signs, menus pasted to placards and discounts all over the place.
2. The name of the restaurant somehow looks made up or grabbed out of a dictionary for Asian and/or Japanese sounding words.
3. Lack of rules or warning on the outside or inside of the restaurant (Japanese love to scare away bad customers before they get in by telling them that they are not really in the right spot)
4. No bowing and traditional Japanese welcome (Irashaimasen?)
and if you get one, it sounds garbled and confused.
5. Service is inconsistent at best, screwy at worst.
6. There are too many menu items and one of them is Bulgobi.
7. There are more colorful "rolls" on the menu than anything else.
8. No people sitting in the restaurant.
9. No thank you when you leave, or worse, you say thank you and they sometimes reply.
10. Spot used to be Japanese run and is bought over by those thinking that it was the location that made the place hot, but not the exceptional food.
11. They charge for tea.
12. The 50% off is permanent, thereby making nothing 50% off.
Bottom line, Tenno sushi sucks. It can't ever un-suck because the decor alone and silly outside signs make it a classless, overpriced, useless fake Japanese spot in a sea of much better choices. Stick to the real ones still left. Real doesn't mean Japanese-owned although it just happens to correlate for some odd reason.
To the owners - Change your name again, get a real Japanese sushi chef, from Japan, put him in the middle of a huge bar with 8 assistants, and make this place into a hot Japanese sushi pub open late. Or lower your prices so low, we can't afford not to eat there.
By the way, if its always 50% off, then its never 50% off. Thats something to think about.
This place is good if you're a first time sushi eater. Their fusion and baked sushi platters are really tasty, filling and will leave you satisfied with your sushi experience.
If you're a fundamentalist sushi eater and enjoy the traditional cuts with old japanese, zen master, knifle slingers behind the counter...this is not the place.
FYI- don't let the "50% off" signage fool you. The price is just a little under expensive. It's good for a night out with a first date (if they like sushi) and good for a night out if your with your sushi loving posse who would like something a little less traditional.
Consistent. Affordable. Open late. Service is for the most part good except for when it's busy...I think sometimes they may be a little understaffed because it takes a while for someone to come by to check on you.
My favorite rolls are the Little Tokyo & Pink Lady. Shishito Peppers are always a good addition to the meal too.
Only downside is parking...street parking is limited. Paid parking lot across the street or try to find parking in the Office Depot lot which is diagnolly across the street.
We ventured into Tenno Sushi for dinner after seeing the long wait for tiny Sushi Komosa. From the outside, Tenno Sushi seems very festive with Christmas lights and lanterns. The interior is also stylish and modern; it is a nice place for a casual yet fun date. I wouldn't recommend sitting at the sushi bar since they play sexy Mariah Carey music video, which can get a bit awkward when she's dancing around promiscuously.
I believe this is owned by Korean as I overheard the waitress speaking, which explains the large expansive list of specialty rolls that traditional Japanese restaurants shy away from. Between three of us, we ordered a chicken bowl, pink lady roll, lobster roll, and chirashi bowl. The teriyaki chicken was very flavorful and tender. The Pink Lady Roll has tuna tataki on top and spicy tuna inside. It was spicy but good. The lobster roll wasn't as impressive. The CHIRASHI bowl has a large selection of fish, and they were very generous with the portions.
Overall, I would recommend this place for a relaxed dinner since there is no crowd glaring at you for eating at a normal speed. The decor is nice, and you get a lot of yummy food for your buck. However, I wouldn't specifically plan to dine here though as nothing here really stood out from the rest of the sushi places in Little Tokyo.
GOOD Sushi. BAD service.
What's up with them alway's playing the bio on Mariah?
I would and wouldn't go back.
I mean sushi at a great price.
but, then again you end up paying up for it with really bad customer service!
Had a similar experience with Carrie N's review. Went to Sushi Zen, but line was too long so we settled for Tenno Sushi.
As previous reviews say: don't buy the 50% off hype. Its always 50% off. Also, its always a bad sign when you see Korean food at a japanese restaurant.
On the night I went, I didn't get Mariah Carey or Beyonce, but we did get Justin TImberlake Live In London DVD playing on the TVs.
Service was ok. But I don't care about service tooooo much. The food is whatevers. Do what I did, if you are desperate for Japanese then come here. But otherwise, there are too many other options close by for you to come here. I mean, my god, you ARE in Little Tokyo.
this place is really cheap and the quality of sushi is really good. I ordered spicy tuna, some roll with yellow tail, and a veggie roll while my friend ordered the philly roll and some teriyaki chicken thing. everything was really fresh and really good. the toilets are something else (clean but strange).
if nothing else go to pee in the bathroom you'll be so surprised.
First, let me inform you I'm fairly new to the sushi experience, and this was my first experience on the west coast.
So heres my journey at Tenno. A friend and I were visiting a pal in Los Angeles and we had a hotel in Chinatown about 5 minutes from Tenno Sushi. Since we were in the mood for sushi we drove down to Little Tokyo and parked. We walked the neighborhood in search of a sushi place around 7ish on a Sunday night. We saw the 50% off 1/2 price sign for Tenno Sushi and the place looked pretty laid back so we went there.
We ordered several rolls (california, shrimp tempura, spicy scallops), and a side of rice. The side of rice came with some tiny molecules of broccoli sprouts with a buttery taste on top, which was pretty good. And the sushi rolls were comparable to most places I eat at back east.
Things to take into consideration about my trip: 1) it was a sunday night (I hear sushi is usually the freshest on monday/tuesday) 2) we had a small portion of the menu, there was plenty more to order
All in all, I would rate their sushi as average, and the service was decent.
Wow I am shocked at all the negative reviews of this place, I absolutely adore Tenno. It is one of my favorite sushi spots in the LA area, the sushi is absolutely amazing here and very well priced. I always have a great experience with the service and the restaurant itself is very nice and has a ton of seating.. The only thing I don't like about this place is they have a Maria Carey video streaming constantly behind the Sushi bar.. the same one everytime I go here.. but Meh who cares their food is so good! best Sashimi ever, five thick slices.. the yellow tail and salmon are my sashimi favorites.. mmmmmm All the rest of their rolls are good as well, and their mo-chi is even delicious.. I feel like I am adoringly babbling about one of my favorite sushi restaurants.. well this place deserves it.. I heart Tenno! :)
Oh parking sucks, umm hello it is downtown get over it :)
Ended up stumbling in here with a date, after spending most of the day wandering the run down streets of downtown for a school assignment. Needless to say, were were bumming it in shorts and baggy t-shirts, which made me embarrassed when I realized how up-scale the place was. Surprisingly, the service was actually really cool (I thought they would snuff us for being young), and quick. The 50% of all sushi all day thing is pretty much a scam, but since that's the price I'm used to paying for it I didn't really mind. The fish was great, and very fresh except for the yellowtail, which was bland and almost colorless. Came out to be fifty bucks for two people, pretty reasonable. Oh, and they have boudets in their bathrooms, how awesome is that?
Service is hit or miss. Sushi (I only had salmon) was good and fresh. Prices are not too bad either.
Sushi, Korean, and 50% off. Three things that should never be uttered together in a sentence unless that sentence is "Never go eat Korean sushi that's 50% off."
Hmm....I don't know if you guys knocking the service in this place checked the sign on the door before you came in, but this is the second time I've been here (first time for dinner) and the staff have been nothing but helpful and polite. I enjoy crunch rolls, so we ordered a whole bunch of that. We also got the albacore salad and two tenno boats. A whole ton of food for our intimate party of two.
Orders in and food out within 15 minutes, and the chunks of albacore in the salad were seared perfectly that they melted in my mouth. For those who've read my Archi's Thai Bistro review, guess what? Still didn't learn my lesson. Asked them how spicy the Fire Dragon Roll was and to amp it up a couple notches. That sumbitch came out Fire Engine Red. First couple pieces and I already was increasing their Sapporo (big) sales volume for the evening. A plus in my book, being that they did not question my need to sweat and in fact discreetly dropped off a bunch of napkins.
Next time I'm here I'll try the sashimi boat, and some kalbi. The menu items number in the hundreds, so it'll be a while till I've had a "bit of everything." Pricing was just right too...for the quality, it was good value.
One negative tonight was the big group seated behind us; everyone apparently had just seen "Dark Knight" and were all doing their Batman voice while taking pictures and splashing sake. Apparently, no one else found it funny and peace was restored when they vacated the premises. Great start to what promises to be a good weekend back home again.
