This is the place where I was first introduced to sushi. Peer pressure aside, I loved it! I order their yummy yummy roll every time - and test out something new along with it.

I now live across the street from this place so they will be seeing my face much more frequently!

I'm a little ashamed to admit that my office is less than a block from Tenno and it took me 4 years to try it.

My department walked over for a little team building lunch and our large group was seated immediately.  The place was pretty empty for a weekday lunch hour, so unless this wasn't typical, waiting isn't an issue.

At Keisha G's urging, I tried to "crazy roll" ...whoa. It's this giant roll wrapped in some kind of sweet potato strings and then fried. Intense.

Service was fast, food was reasonably priced... It wasn't spectacular, but I'll be back for sure for a quick lunch out of the office.

It had been awhile since I had made my way back to Tenno but I must clarify that it is due to location and not customer service or quality of food. When I used to live on 21st Ave, it was more convenient to swing by here for take-out or dinner but I will make it a point to plan ahead for my meals so that I can be a consistent patron of this quiet little gem.

On Saturday evening, I ordered a miso soup and vegetable roll for around $6.50 and was completely satisfied on so many fronts! Service is always solid and the menu offers up a nice assortment of veg-friendly options too.

This is a great spot for a relaxed and quiet meal. Give it a whirl!

I had a yen (no pun intended) for something Asian-ish (read: rice with an umami protein), and this place hit the spot. While the food wouldn't past muster in the Japantown of my former life, this was exactly what I was expecting to eat.

I knew I was no longer in San Francisco when I was offered a fork with my meal here. Chopsticks were also provided, but the fork was what made me turn my head. I actually didn't feel like using chopsticks, so I didn't mind the forks.

The miso soup was blander than I am used to. But then, I was actually grateful that the miso was thin. I once bought miso paste and tried making my own soup and used a bit too much and haven't finished miso soup at restaurants in a while. This time, I did finish.

I initially asked the server if they kept the skin on the salmon. She didn't understand me and disappeared to have someone else take my order. I had the bulgogi which I am pretty sure is a Korean dish, but with the way the 2 countries are so close, both cuisines are likely to offer each other's dishes.  The bulgogi was delicious.

The salad had a very watery dressing, but that didn't detract me from the dish. I ate everything.

The bento box included a few pieces of sushi, a gyoza (Japanese potsticker) and a tempura item. They were nondescript; something I'd find at takeout sushi places. But I wolfed them down.

When I first read the menu, I was surprised that fried rice was offered with the bento boxes. I forgot to ask if I could get steamed rice, instead. It turned out that the bulgogi automatically comes with steamed rice and not fried rice.

The last time I had sushi was in downtown Napa, where the wasabi was homemade and burned your nostrils. While I can take some heat, I am at heart a wimp. The wasabi here was very, very mild. Awesome for me, but your mileage may vary. The pickled ginger was just okay.

I hate to say that I consider this place more of an Americanized restaurant than a Japanese restaurant. Nothing wrong with that, especially if that's what you have a hankering for, which I always do.

I just had a great meal the other night with girlfriends on a Saturday. The food was DELICIOUS! I mixed it up with some sushi and hibachi sides and loved all of it. I believe I had a tempura roll and I'm not going to lie, I ate every last bite.

Service was also very on point and we always had a fresh drink or what we needed at any given time. I've been back twice since!

    Definitely a recommendation.

Awesome!!!! These folks completely rock!!  Great sushi, great servers that have always remembered us and what we prefer to drink, as well as our favorite seats (we like the sushi bar, so we can watch em make the sushi). Tonight they honored us with special chopsticks for us to use when we're there.  If you can't tell, I love the people here. It's not just a great dinner, it's a friendly hang as well.

I started eating here when our office was just down the street.  Even though our office has since moved, we still drive here for sushi quite often.  The sushi here is almost always fresh and delicious and the staff is really friendly.

I ate here yesterday and had the sushi lunch (four pieces of sushi and a California roll), soup, and salad, and it was some of the best sushi I've had in a while.  The tuna and salmon were especially good.

I've had their nigiri, rolls, and bento box, and it's all good.

(Note: restaurant name is "Tenno", not "Ten No")

My BFF and I ate at Tenno this weekend, and had a great time.

This is probably one of the best sushi places in Nashville.  It is located in a building that resembles the shape of Whataburger.  We came in to snack and ended up ordering 3 rolls, edemame, salad, and 2 pieces of sushi.  The waitress noted on the delivery of the 3rd roll to our table, "Oh, you hungry huh?".  Yes.  We were.  Now leave us alone!!  Kidding (hormones).  If you like fried rolls, which I normally don't but I make the exception here you should try their crazy roll, which has sweet potato in it.  Also a must is the Nashville roll and Playgirl roll.

The sushi chef kept looking over at my friend and me and in the end gave us dessert which was a sliced fried tempura banana with whipped cream, free of charge.  Ahhh the way to a girl's heart is free carbs!! We looked over at him and said thank you and he smiled and waved.  What a nice chap.  When in Nashville and seeking sushi you should eat here.

Overall: It's a nice, quiet place to have decent sushi. As long as you aren't looking for something super upscale you won't be too disappointed.

Food: I've honestly only had 2 of the rolls on the menu. I'm not sure of the name (i think it may be called the crazy roll?) It's the one with the sweet potato wrapped around the outside. This one has always been good. The mimi roll, on the other hand, is a little bit spotty. I've had it twice and one time it was great, the second time i ended up throwing most of it away.

Parking/Location: Parking is limited and I'm not quite sure where you'd park if the spots on the side are taken? It's a little dark but it seems clean and they have fun pictures of customers on the walls.

As I have previously mentioned growing up in California has made me an ethic food snob. Consequently, I have found most sushi places in Nashville to be sub par. I mean we are land locked for Pete's sake! Where would we get fresh seafood?

Nuzzled between two gas stations, Tenno Sushi does not really look like the kind of place where you would come for a good sushi, but surprisingly it is. California snobbery aside, this is probably my favorite sushi place in Nashville. For those that are not big into the idea of raw or cooked fish and friends, their bento boxes are really good. With rice, salad, a meat of choice, and two other fixings it is definitely a filling meal. If you are new to Tenno, just pick a roll off their specials board and you won't go wrong. I usually go for the cooked seafood rolls, though I do delve into the raw ones once in a while to keep up appearances. All in all, two thumbs up to my favorite Nashville sushi spot.

I find this place a little overpriced, but it's just down the street from me, so I sometimes pick up take-out when I need a quick Japanese fix. I usually pick up some sort of teriyaki dish, which are always pretty good, although a little salty and the last time I ordered it, my vegetables were soggier than you would expect in Japanese food.

The sushi is pretty good, and they do a nice rainbow roll, but if I'm going to pay the money they charge, I have other favorite places. I've eaten at the sushi bar here, and it was nice, but it wasn't a particularly special experience.

They do have good miso soup, but the salad dressing is too creamy and mayonnaise based, although I know people who like it that way.

The best way to do this place is take-out and the staff are really friendly and my order is always ready really quickly.

I looked up some boards and decided to try this place out.  There was nothing outstanding about the fish, and the rolls were far too compacted so that it was almost rice dough.   It seemed on par with the Japanese supermarket sushi I get back in L.A. at 4 times the price.

The service was friendly, but considering how vacant the place was, the sushi came out really slowly.

Hopefully, my next trip to a Nashville sushi joint would be more satisfying.

Great meal! We needed a sushi fix, and this hit the spot. Service was quick and pleasant, the decor was festive, and most importantly, the rolls were fresh and flavorful. We think we've found our local go-to!

This is one of the most profoundly poor experiences I have ever had with a meal involving sushi.  The fish was not fresh, the rice was still warm around it, the teriyaki chicken clearly came from a bird that celebrated it's 65th birthday yesterday.  Even the batter around the tempura was not a traiditionally made batter- it was the type of batter that you get from cafeteria fried fish.  Only thing worth noting was that they got good color on the gyoza when frying it and the sauce it came with was good.  I would never send anyone I liked to this restaurant.

Tenno is a dusty treasure off West End, and one of my favorite places to get some good quality sushi at cheaper prices.  It is hidden between two gas stations and a tiny strip mall, right before West End Ave crosses over 440, and can easily be overlooked.  The building itself is pretty unique looking, and in a different setting would probably draw more attention.
It's a small unpretentious sushi house, that never really seems to be busy, yet has a large group of regular patrons.  They offer a good variety of sushi rolls and the chefs are pretty liberal with the cuts of fish even if the rolls are a little on the small side.  They have an extensive specials board that changes out, and usually hosts some pretty unique rolls so don't be afraid to ask your server about them.  The prices are good, they tend to be a little cheaper than some of the other sushi restaurants in town especially compared to some of the trendier ones.

The place has a homey feel to it, everyone in the restaurant greets you as you come and go.  It's a very relaxed atmosphere but they're sushi chef's can be a little slow.  Even if they're not very busy it will probably take some time to get your order served up.  If you're very hungry I'd suggest getting some Miso soup or one of their appetizers to munch on while you wait.  Their wait staff is very attentive and helpful in listing suggestions.  One great thing about Tenno is that you can order takeout so if you're in a hurry or just feel like having dinner at home, you can grab it and go pretty easily.  West End traffic is notoriously terrible especially during rush hour so getting to Tenno can be quite a headache, but I've never really encountered any parking issues.

This isn't neccessarily a sushi restaurant that you'd write home about, but it gets the job done at a reasonable price.  Most of the staff is family, and they are all very friendly.  The sushi selection is good, but its kind of strange that the "specials" have been on the white board for months.  However - amongst those specials is the "Yummy Yummy roll," and I have to admit that it is.

I've eaten a fair amount of their nigiri, and its all been good.  The rolls are well made and the spicy items actually are spicy.  The sake selection is very small, but they do have the standard asian beers available.

Parking can be tight, as the gas station is immediately beside the restaurant.  I've never seen this place too busy though, so usually finding a spot isn't horrible.

i just had the rolls.  it's pretty good for around here, and especially if you haven't been to a big city for sushi in a while.  they give you a decent volume of food.  the fried (on the outside) rolls were not crispy, but at least the center wasn't cooked.  i didn't taste any fishy tuna, which is always my test of if the sushi if fresh.  they tend to load on the sauces, so it's not exactly subtle flavors that you're experiencing.  For close/proximity to home, I'd definitely go back.  But otherwise, see my review of Peter's for the Nashville area.
