Drinks and Appetizers = A (especially the beet salad)

The entree left a little to be desired, as my trout was undercooked.  However, the rest of the meal and wonderful service completely made up for my half-deceased fish.

I really REALLY recommend ordering dessert!  At $7, the Brown Sugar Bar will be enough for at least two people to share.  The oatmeal ice cream on top is the "icing on the cake" as it melts into perfection with the bite that includes a little bit of everything.  I say it was absolutely heavenly - and so was the Valrhona Chocolate Cake.

It has been a harsh couple of months for the Portland restaurant scene with several notable closures. Within one month, two places that have received their fair share of positive press and attention in the Pearl District have closed their doors.

Ten 01 is a good example of why restaurants really need to focus on consistency to thrive and survive. I visited three times during the past 18 months and had three different experiences. This is one of the main reasons why I didn't post a review before now. If you scan the reviews by date (always a very handy tool), you will see swells and dips that reflect several changes in the kitchen and chefs.

On all three occasions, I was taking advantage of some sort of special pricing (Street of Dreams coupon, Portland Dining Month prix fixe, happy hour). To their credit, I always received good to great service, even when the coupon was shown in advance. I never felt like a second class citizen by not paying full price. That is a good thing because it was one of those places where you felt like you were paying a 'Pearl District surcharge' rather than just the meal in front of you.

So do I give it five stars for the 'power lunch' where everything went perfectly, four stars for those truffle fries and a solid happy hour or three stars for an uneven dinner (heavy on the salt)? I was left with a three star rating which are kind of a downer to write. For me, a four indicates that I recommend a place and I wasn't confident enough in what type of experience others would have to go that high.

The reason I did recommend Ten 01 to family and friends was the atmosphere. In a sea of bland industrial spaces, Ten 01's upstairs dining room was unapologetically romantic. Even though some of the tables were close together, it was the kind of place I wanted to go on a date with my husband even though all of my visits ended up being with friends or family. For all the joys of dining in Portland, romantic spots can be tough to find.

So it is too late to visit Ten 01, but I hope that the next tenant doesn't mess with the space too much. Viva la romance!

Every once in awhile, Gayle and I will have a dinner together that fires on all cylinders. Gayle calls these events "Kick Ass" meals, which combine excellent food, great service, inspiring and heartfelt conversation, an intense romantic connection, and usually a really good Bombay Sapphire Martini. All this was our recent dinner at Ten-01, and more....

Ten 01 is a restaurant that combines contemporary design, with environmentally friendly principles, and casual elegance. The street level dining room combines the energy of the bar (and a good burger), with the action of an open kitchen. We were on the second floor (by the rail) looking down on that and outwards towards Powell's and the immediate Pearl District neighbourhood.

The Concierge at The Nines recommended Ten-01 and made our reservations. After an earlier breakfast recommendation misfire (Bijou Cafe) by the hotel desk, we were wary. However, Christina had a very good grasp of her restaurant facts and inspired our confidence to make the short walk over. She also pointed out that it was impossible to under dress for dinner in Portland.

Upon entering Ten-01, we were impressed to be quickly greeted by name and seated immediately. Our waiter for the night promptly checked in, and soon after the Sommelier introduced himself and made it know that he was at the ready to help with the restaurant's extensive wine list. Ten-01 emphasizes French wines, but also has strong wine selections from other countries such as New Zealand. But before we could consider that, complimentary flutes of champagne were served, courtesy of Christina at The Nines. Very classy.

Table service during the entire evening was fabulous. The food was even better. Gayle had the Cattail Creek Leg of Lamb (with local summer squash ratatouille, seared eggplant, garlic confit, and san marzano tomato jus), while I chose the Fish of the Day (Halibut). And as an extra treat, we were served a tasty amuse bouche starter. Both of us also compared our meal to a recent outing at Commis and decided that we enjoyed the boldness of Ten-01's flavours better than the subtlety of our equally excellent Oakland meal.

When a romantic evening is going so well, there's always room for a shared dessert and coffee. We chose a lemon blueberry tart that had just the right combination of flaky, creamy, and tart. It was simple, fresh, and delicious, and a perfect dessert coda for a perfect evening.

My review is on happy hour only.

I met a friend here on a Friday night at 5:30. The downstairs bar area is very nice, and I have to say that staff was great! Very attentive.

The happy hour menu was a little to expensive for my taste. I recall a $5 olive dish, and everything else was closer to $10.

I had the butternut squash soup which was the special. It had a cranberry sauce in it and was amazing. But I thought the happy hour price as around $6 dollars. I got the bill and it was $9..no big deal. I ordered some sort of cocktail for $5. I beleive it had ginger beer and brandy? Not remarkable. My girlfriend had the truffle fries which were great, and also the risotto..mmm! Very good! I also had a califlower gratin which I really liked.

Overall the food was yummy and the atmosphere is fun and upscale, but the happy hour prices are a little to steep for my blood.

    This is an incredible restaurant.

I just hosted a large event here a few nights ago and I was impressed.  The food was fantastic. The Chef created a menu for us and everything was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. The entire staff was professional knew their food and wine.

The Events Director, Didier, orchestrated a beautiful evening for our group. The transitions from cocktails and appetizers downstairs to dinner upstairs seemed to flow smoothly thanks to the team at Ten-01. I received nothing but compliments from everyone that attended.

One minor problem was that the upstairs group dining seating was a little tight. We had long banquet tables set up for 70 and it looked amazing but it was a little difficult moving around. However, the service was so amazing we didn't have to get up much at all.

Great food, great events planning, great service, and the desserts are WOW.

I went there for dinner by myself.  They sat me down with their extensive wine list and the dinner menu.  I wasn't that hungry so I ordered a salad and their clam appetizer with a lemon drop.  After I ordered, I saw that other people around me were getting food that I didn't see on the expensive menu- turns out they forgot to give me the "downstairs menu," even though I was downstairs.  The food I had was good though, and the ambiance was lovely.

I don't think my server was happy to have a 1-top in her section, and when I presented my groupon (plus an appropriate cash tip), she and the host turned their noses up at me.  She took down the groupon number off my iphone and then took the liberty of pushing the button to make sure it said used, pushing the button several times and freezing the app for me- as if I might go back and try to use it again if she didn't do that.  The server even mentioned that I got my meal for free- I corrected her, telling her that no, it was paid for.
I don't think I'll go back as this experience left me feeling a bit snubbed.

    Classic Portland scene.

    Calm, collected and chic.

I went for the happy hour which is good and affordable.

The food offerings are fairly decent.

The meatballs that I've had is good. I should've ordered more but I was saving room for sweets at the other door.

The vodka martini that I've had is relatively cheap as well.

The service is prompt and warm. No hipster servers, no atitude whatsoever.

What a great value! Rabbit pate for under ten bucks! Good wine list. Really cool bartenders served us up a Delicious spread and their recs for food and entertainment at other venues in the city.

Small plates dominate. The pate stuck out as a winner. But, our clams were kind of mediocre. Delicious fresh scallops were tasty and spendy (7 dollars per scallop with some plate accoutrement).

Consistently good - especially the awesome wine list and nice, simple cocktails. I could rave about the Chateau Michel chardonnay they have currently for several hours. :)

I like the upstairs/downstairs split.  We can eat fine dining upstairs if we wish or bar food downstairs.  The $4 burger downstairs is exceptional value.

Always like the service and the friendliness of the staff - who seem actually interested in your experience being good rather than the frequent insincerity you get in some higher end restaurants.

After my frequent visits to Ten01 I'm disappointed in myself for just now writing a review. Ten01 is an epitome of classy and chic with a modernistic flair. It's the kind of establishment you'll want to bring clients, out of town guests or your next date to impress.  Downstairs in the bar can fill up quick but there is additional seating outside for your addictive people viewing pleasure. Its upscale menu shows that simple foods don't have to be boring. First order some truffle fries, a little truffle makes everything better when it's accompanied by a salty crunch! If you want something satisfyingly different ask for the chorizo burger which comes with a fried quail egg.

Ten01 has an extensive wine list that focus primarily on French wines but also showcases regions from around the world. If you're a wine geek like me you may quickly pin point a favorite from its 6 or more pages. If not, it's best to ask for Damien, who is the manager and sommelier. He is very friendly, patient and willing to help offer a recommendation that will surely compliment your meal.

Service is spot on, with helpful staff that knows their dishes to a tee. Every meal has been of exceptional quality and executed with extreme precision. My food arrives as explained showing acute plating techniques that are splashed with color and texture. For an entrée try the lamb chops, which are cooked to perfection and left basting in their own juices. The entrees are typically paired with fresh seasonal ingredients that inspire an added finesse. Lastly if indulgence is on your mind try the chocolate trio, I split it with a friend which sent us into a fork duel until the very last bite.

Maybe it's because I am slightly homesick for Chicago, but I recently felt the need to go to a bar/restaurant where I don't have to wear a hipster uniform and feel like a 'tard for being "overly dressed" (which in Portland means--for a woman--wearing any kind of dress or skirt that isn't vintage/ironic). So I threw on my DVF little black dress, rocked some cute designer boots, and pulled up to Ten 01 for an evening of drinks and food at the bar.

I was pleased (and appropriately attired)--the vibe here is sexy, loungy and modern. The staff are cool and interesting to talk to (and the owner is also usually around, it seems, and very personable!--nice touch!), and in my fairly wide experience of restaurants around Portland and the US, I felt the prices were extremely fair, the food was solid, and the wine list might just be the best I've seen in Portland.

Everyone in the place was very friendly, helpful and laid-back. I will definitely be back. Extra props for one of the bartenders recommending Teardrop down the street for a nightcap--that place also rocked!

They have truffled french fries at Happy Hour.

    Lemme just make this clear:
    1. They fry some potatoes.
    2. They toss them in truffle oil.

Come on people. Does life get any better than french fries... with truffle oil? I didn't effin' think so.

Our first visit may be our last. It was Happy Hour this afternoon. We were the only HHers - it's not as if HH menus were in hugh demand - but our server brought us one. I had to go search for a second. This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, I admit.

The truffle oil fries could have been good. They had good texture and might have had good flavor - whatever flavor they may have had was masked by excessive salt. I didn't taste any truffle. The mustard aoli was tasty but they were a bit stingy with it. The beef slider was OK if a bit boring. Ordered medium and received on the R side of MR. I didn't bother sending it back. Kind of skimpy. My wife's butter lettuce salad was way over dressed. Her housemade chorizo burger was the best thing we ordered and earned the third star.

Pretty good bargain. I really wish they had impressed us because I'd like to return for dinner and find out what all of those stars are about. As it is, I'm not tempted.

After deciding to play hookey and take a few much needed mental health days to enjoy the summer sun and all that Portland has to offer, the Tall Leggy Blonde (TLB) and I headed down to the Pearl.  The weather was warm and we wandered around the blocks, occasionally stopping in any store that happened to catch our eyes. With the hot sun beating down, our legs tiring and our mouths becoming parched, we decided to make a quick stop at Ten 01 for happy hour.

I knew I had heard of this place on Yelp, but didn't remember the details...luckily the truffle fries immediately caught our attention, so we promptly ordered these delectable potatoes along with a couple of adult beverages.  The French fries were amazing...alone they are worth stopping by for.  The Hopworks (or HUB as they seem to be known as) beer was the perfect compliment to the fries and quickly erased the memory of dry mouth syndrome I was experiencing earlier.  The TLB had what she claimed was the best Bloody Mary she has ever had the pleasure of drinking.  I could tell that she wasn't exaggerating.  The pickled vegetables used in her drink were all homemade and canned by the bar manager, and when added to the mix which included a special habanera sauce, it all perfectly combined into one hell of a drink.

It was late afternoon on a Thursday, so there was only one other group in the bar.  Our waiter was fantastic and attentive, and the bartender was quick to share the secret of her amazing Bloody Mary's.  While we only were there initially for a quick drink and some fries, we will certainly be back for dinner.

"Honey, we're going to Ten 01 tonight for dinner!  It's in the Pearl so bust out the black!,"  I called up the stairs as Ms. A headed to the shower.  We've made a pact to get away from Alberta St at least some Fridays, so we're heading to a five-star Yelpee on the other side of the river.

Turns out there was no need to dig out the dark hues from the closet - although very stylish and sophisticated, Ten 01 doesn't pretend it's not in Portland.  Our waiter alternated speaking English and French between us and the neighboring table.  Fleece and jeans mingled comfortably with the expected shades of black in the early dinner hour couture.

Although the wine list is extensive and tempting, we went with cocktails from their special menu.  Ms A. had an Anjou pear martini, made with Medoyev Vodka and fresh pear puree, with a dusting of cinnamon.  It was bright and festive.  I had the somewhat more austere Alaska, a delicately balanced blending of gin and Chartreuse, which didn't appeal to me at first but turned out to be a brilliant pairing with fresh oysters and an heirloom beet salad.

That salad, by the way, could transform a person's opinion of beets.  This is no pungent peasant food, but subtly sweet cubes of white beet, served over arugula with pine nuts and feta and set off with a tangy, dry vinaigrette.  One of the simplest and best salads I have had all year.

We followed with entrees - Ms. A selected the scallops with chorizo and almonds, which meant, by our rules,  I had to order something else.  But nearly all of the dozen or so items on the menu had their virtues so I didn't despair.  I went with the crispy skin chicken with a gorgonzola polenta and was not sorry.

This was comfort food, in the sense that it was rich and deeply flavorful although not challenging to the palate.  And that was just fine -- in fact, utterly satisfying.  The chicken was moist and was nicely complemented by the polenta (I mean, what dinner isn't helped out with gorgonzola?).  The scallops were fantastic, large and rich.  Ms. A admitted she was intimidated by the notion of chorizo with them -- needlessly, it turned out.  It was a mellow kind of chorizo that aided and abetted the flavor of the scallops without smothering it.

To finish we split a butternut squash creme brule.  It was a little like the flavor of pumpkin pie and the chef got the sweetness balance right for my taste, with most of the sugar in the topping, not weighing down the creme itself.

The service was just the right balance of attentiveness and distance and the ambient noise, which can crush a romantic mood in some of the destinations around here, hovered at a level happily between festive and hushed.

Now that I know Ten 01 I'll have to return for happy hour.  I think I'll wear jeans.

Came here on a Friday night with a Groupon...I was afraid it would be super packed so I made reservations through Yelp/OpenTable, but it turned out not to be necessary...there was plenty of seating in this 2-story establishment.

Ten 01 fits right into the Pearl District as a fancy upscale restaurant that you would probably want to dress up a little for (though not everyone does).

I ordered the smoked salmon appetizer as my main meal and it was amazing. I'd highly recommend that one. I wasn't too hungry and was pretty full on the bread anyways. We were treated very well and also given samples of little dishes too...yum!

For a poor starving grad student that has to pay to work (me :S), Ten 01 is probably not highly recommended. But if you actually make money and have people to impress, Ten 01's entrees at $20-30+ might do the trick.

Thank you Groupon! Maybe someday when I actually have an income, I'll come back again!

Yes, the HH is that good.

For drinks, we had the vodka-based Oregon Anjou and the gin-based Alaska. Made with house-made syrups & bitters, they really hit the spot. And that spot was our livers. Nice and strong.

Also tried the cheese plate and the chef (or someone) picked out three delicious cheese for us (I believe they were the gongonzola dulce, green peppercorn and triple cream). Amazing.

Attentive and friendly staff also, which is sometimes hard to come by during a popular HH.

A couple of friends recently took me up on an offer to go to ten 01 for quail, which I had enjoyed there in January, though they have apparently rotated the items on their menu since then. Nevertheless, there remained a beautiful selection of appetizers and main courses, and I was happy to have the opportunity to sample another dish.

To start, the chef sent over small cups of a flavorful custard, prosciutto, aged cheese, and crouton concoction, which we practically inhaled. My friends shared a half dozen oysters, which I don't care for but they enjoyed immensely.

I was still feeling a little bummed about the quail until I tasted (and subsequently wolfed down) their amazingly tender, juicy beef short ribs. One of my friends had "the best halibut I've ever tasted" with mussels, and more oysters...and the other ate some sort of saucy flat noodles with proscuitto and fried quail eggs, which looked amazing. I also had a hefeweizen.

Then we shared a sumptuous chocolate chip bread pudding (topped with banana slices) drizzled with and surrounded by caramel and a scoop of coffee flavored ice cream. Utterly amazing. After dessert the chef gave us a sampler of 8 assorted truffles and turkish delight. Pure dark chocolatey heaven.

The restaurant was active, but not too busy, and conveniently located about 6 blocks from my apartment in the heart of the Pearl District. We got in without a reservation on a Saturday night and were immediately seated. The decor is modern and original -- very spacious and warm with a "clean" look and feel. The wait staff are knowledgeable, personable, polite, and FAST. Couldn't ask for better service.

Highly recommended to anyone looking to enjoy a relaxed, yet bustling restaurant atmosphere with absolutely fantastic food.

    One word, Amazing!
This place had a semi-bad rep under the last kitchen manager, however they have turned it around ten fold.  I really could not recommend this place enough.

First the place is beautiful.  The staff, decor, ambiance, etc.

Second, their cocktail menu is very innovative.  It changes with the seasons and what their supplier(s) have to offer.  For example, who would have thought that Tequila would be brilliant with Rhubarb?  Put a little black salt and honey on the rim, you're good to go!  Or maybe some fresh lavender with gin?  I'm not a big fan of gin, but I second guessed myself after drinking this.  It's fun to go try their new concoctions!

Third, I don't eat meat, however their kitchen was MORE than accommodating to help out a little veg-head with her needs and made an awesome Heirloom tomato risotto, TO DIE FOR!

It is an exciting experience every time I go in this place, whether it's dropping in for a quick cocktail or being treated to an off the menu experience.  I'm lucky to work so close by!

We were just wandering around and happened to stop in to 10-01 for fun and happy hour. It was great, great, great food. Standard new american in Portland, which means it's really tasty.

For HH we grabbed some fresh organic fries with a truffle aioli (and they're fried in truffle oil!), grilled white fish and bread. The drinks were drinkable and everything on the table dissappeared fairly quickly.

For the ambience the place isn't as stuffy as you might think. Servers act casual and know the food is good. Perhaps the only downfall of this place in the pearl is that it blends into the landscape of good food in the area. I'm not sure it'll cross our mind to return, even though I really want to try those duck wings. It just gives off a "me too" vibe and doesn't stand out in my head among other places. There's a lot of similar food in the area and you really have your choices in this category. If you're at Powell's Books and you want some Happy Hour, walk over to Ten One and enjoy a bite with your book. It'll be well deserved and it'll tase as good as the deal you're getting.

This is where I got re-introduced to Oregon wine.
Our waitress was Much More than knowledgeable, she was a sommelier.

    The food was incredible.
We had the house appetizers continued with pork and chicken main courses.
The plates were very well decorated and full of flavor.
    Desserts. Exquisite!

The décor is very modern and tastefully done.
Portions are small and mimic French cuisine rather than American.
This is probably one of the most prestigious restaurants in Portland and carries a price to this.

My rating is for our whole experience, to which our waitress was a big part.....
Probable would be at 4stars without her...
Nevertheless, I would go back next time I am in Portland.

Here comes my review of the century.

I turned in my Masters thesis for corrections, so my parents said, "Oh, go out and treat Tatiana M. and yourself to a nice dinner." So, we thought, let's go to Ten 01. It's classy, in the Pearl, and requires a bankroll. We didn't go during happy hour (which I've heard is good), but had thrown caution to the wind so it just didn't matter.

Service was great. I had just stepped off the train, so I had a lot of bags, but the hostess gladly checked all of our coats and etc. We were seated upstairs in a nicely furnished dining room, and we got a little something, compliments of the chef. That's always a good sign.

TM and I both ordered drinks, and a charcuterie plate with chicken liver paté and house pickles. It was delicious. The paté was a little rich, but when is a paté not rich?

For our entrees, TM had the risotto (which we have been enamored with ever since Gordon yelled it at some inept Hell's Kitchenite), and I had the salmon (with an inkling that I should have had the pork). We waited a little bit for our main course, but were otherwise occupied with the appetizer and our drinks. The server was friendly and she checked in on us once and a while.

Our entrees arrived and we dug into our $30 and up plates. Now. I am a man of wealth and taste, as I have said before. But really I'm just a man of taste and there is not a wealthy bone in my body. Therefore, I eat primarily at fast food joints, happy hours and my bag of Fritos next to my bottle of 3 buck Chuck. That said, my palette is discerning and can spot similarities a mile away. On this occasion, my salmon with a smoked hollandaise was reminding me of something, but I couldn't quite place it. I tasted. I let TM taste. I tasted again. There was a familiarity about the smoky, meaty, creamy sauce. The bready, blandish salmon. The ninety-nine cents-ity of it all.

I paid $30 for a Jack in the Box Junior Bacon Cheeseburger in the form of salmon.

Don't ask me how, but that dish tasted exactly like my old college standby off the J in the B value menu. I kid you not.

When I spend over a Benjamin for a dinner for two at a fancy place and leave thinking I just took her to the place by the freeway with free tacos on select Tuesdays, I am a bit distraught. That is not good enough. I'm glad the appetizer and drinks were well-made, because the entrees were sub par. Next time I will go with my gut and stick to happy hour. At least they didn't make it until I ordered it.

Ended up here for a latish meal on a Thursday and opted for the downstairs (casual) menu.

We ordered 5 small plates which was about right since it was late.  Nothing was bad, but as I write this 2 days later I have trouble remembering what we had.  The truffle fries were decent, and I think I had some sort of thinly sliced pork (a la prosciutto or panchetta) which I liked...other than that meh.

I'd give it another try, but overall not wowed.

Today, I was schooled.  I was informed the famous Pinot Noir producing appellation is pronounced "will-AM-ette", not "will-em-ette".  Who knew?  Apparently every Oregonian - they are just too polite to tell you.

    I digress.

Ten 01 is brilliant - everything everyone else has said, I concur!

Super fresh, seasonal, balanced flavors in a hyper-stylish space in Portland's trendy Pearl District.

Took said clients (who performed above said schooling) here for a business lunch and everyone was completely satiated and we all left with big smiles on our faces.

Highly recommend to anyone looking for really solid, smart dishes whilst in Portland.

Oh & they serve Dry Soda in stunning Reidel glasses.  Now THAT is what I'm talking about.

    Well done!

This is a pretty cool place.

The space first:  It is interesting, and wraps itself up well.  It has an elegant combination of openess and intimacy, and the designers did a fine job there.

The drinks are superb, and the staff know their wine lists well.

I only had appetizers, and they were fine, except the sliders were a bit rare and my friends seemed to claim they could see the patty squirm still.  Not too good there, but only a minor detraction there from the overall.

I would certainly return ... and I KNOW this is a good place to drink.

Yeah. I didn't really get it either.  I mean I enjoyed the bathroom. Even used my time in the chair wisely, counting how many rows of staggered mini-subway tiles they alternated between rounded and then evenly spaced tiles. Even sketched the whole thing up when I got back to the table and have big dreams of dirty ratter copy cattering.

The asymmetrical serving dish thingie my fries came in was kinda nice.

But I didn't really understand why the oysters tasted like lemonade and shouldn't you get a napkin automatically when you order fries? How come none of the happy hour drinks are things I would want to actually drink? Grapefruit or scotch? Blechy. (Furball coughing noises here)

I can say that even though I'll probably leave Ten-01 in "GTTS-ville" (got the t-shirt, it's been done, whateva), the patrons had a super groovy vibe to them.  Maybe that's why it's called happy hour!  Everyone there seemed happy and I actually made a bunch of friends waiting for my friend to arrive.

You know the expression, "People will forget what you do and forget what you say, but they won't forget how you made them feel"?  Well I will forget their food and their service, but I went away happy nonetheless.

Gawd, how many stars for that?  I feel so limited, helpless, inept. Hold me.

The better half and I decided to try Ten 01 for happy hour on that scorcher of a Friday afternoon we had a week ago.  Sad to say, one of the best things we could say of the experience was "at least they had air conditioning".

Before I get flamed, let me explain.  Looking at other reviews here on Yelp, we were expecting something approaching HH Nirvana.  However, the reality is closer to being yet another above average after work stop like several others in the Pearl.  On to the gory details...

The food IS good, worthy of 4 stars, and makes me want to go back to see what they can do with a full dinner.  The slider was good, but overpriced considering other bars have a full sized burger at the same price.  The Thai ribs were the right combo of spicy and sweet.  The "tater tots" were more like a croquette, but how can you go wrong with shallots AND bacon.  We didn't order the truffle fries, but I wished we had.

The service was good, but not great.  I think it was the heat, because everything seemed to run in slow motion.  Everyone on staff were friendly.  The atmosphere is a little on the trendy side, but we were in the Pearl.

For HH, the beverage menu is at least as important as the food.  In my opinion, this is Ten 01's biggest failing.  I wasn't in the mood for a $9 cocktail and the majority of their wines by the glass were in the double digits, so I was stuck with their anemic beer selection.  There were only two beers on tap (a Rogue and a Walking Man, if I remember correctly), but they did have several imports in bottles that I didn't feel were overpriced.  Disappointing to say the least.

To level set, the three stars means that Ten 01 is a good happy hour choice because the food is innovative, even if it is a little pricey.  I really want to try it again to see what they can do with a full dinner menu.

I went here when they originally opened and found the food to be unsatisfying and overpriced. I recently when there again for a business dinner and was shocked by how much had changed. Service was much better and the food was outstanding. The appetizers were fantastic, I highly recommend the lollipop shrimp. They have an excellent wine selection and were quick on the refills :)

I would give it 5 stars but my steak along with many others at the table was undercooked. It seemed they just cooked all of them to rare and called it good.

Highly recommended even with the extra bloody steak, I will be returning.

I had the turkey sandwich with housemade cranberry marmalade and black pepper cream cheese spread.
Holy God Almighty.  It was so good...and it was served with TRUFFLE FRIES.

I have also had the roasted chicken with celery root, butternutsquash risotto with black truffle and chicken jus.
I was in heaven and did not want that meal to end.  I wanted to lick the plate and i regret not doing so.

I don't know what this "ok food" rubbish is from other yelpers...but I was nothing less than impressed with the quality of the food and the ambiance.

it's like the food here was designed for me. it gets me. i love it.

It's sucks when your server is more buzzed than you.

Ours kept taking sips (more like gulps) of opened bottles of wine on the side of the bar.  I'm not so sure he was just testing to see if it was past its prime.  Now, I'm all for drinking at work, but at least sneak it in the back.

We came for happy hour -  I ordered the clams and mussels, my friend had the short rib mac n' cheese and we shared the truffle fries.  My shellfish was good and a bargain at $4.  I was interested in the oysters at $1 a pop but when I asked what kind they were the response was "err, they're from BC and small." Okay, that's not telling me much.  Her mac looked like a gut bomb to me but she ate most of it.  The truffle fries were better than expected.  I love truffles, but am put off by too much truffle oil, in part because I once worked for a not-very-creative chef who doused everything with the stuff.

My martini was lilliputian and her happy hour red was described by Drinkie McDrinkerson as being "from CA and a Cab blend." Wow, thanks for that vagueness, buddy.

I was till hungry so I ordered a lamb burger before happy hour ended.  Or so I thought.  My watch said 5:57 and as I look at it now I realize it's actually two minutes fast.  I wasn't in the mood to argue and be *that* person so I just let it go.  Who knows, maybe his vision was blurred by that point.  With the burger I ordered a glass of Malbec.  I was tempted to order like this: "I want the red wine, y'know, the one from South America" so he knew I was down.

My burger was medium rare by default which is fine with me, but it was rare as in more like tartar in the center.  I just ate around it, cause it was yummy.

When the bill came (after boy wonder came over and asked me, "you had the malbec, right?") he had charged us for two regular glasses and had to change it.

I would probably come back for happy hour even though I not a fan of eating at the blue hair hour.  The bar menu is the same as the happy hour menu, but more than twice the price.  There's some crossover onto the dinner menu as well.  I think I would only eat in the restaurant if my imaginary wealthy benefactor was footing the bill.

And I gotta say it ladies, there is some serious eye candy working in that kitchen.  Extra star.  Yes, I am really that shallow.

Maybe we should have tried their dinner.  This is strictly for our limited experience of their "infamous" Happy Hour.

We got there right around Happy Hour so early...the place was very quiet.  There were 2 regulars (they knew the bartender quite well) at the bar where we sat and another lady near the window.

It's a more trendy spot w/ a bit of sophistication.  We wanted oysters and they didn't have it!?!   Not sure why and that was a real turn off.  I decided with the Henry II and not impressed at all - actually it was pretty bad and I'm a bubble girl and LOVE my champagne.  Hubby has something local brew on draft.  We decided to start with the steamers (see photo) - it was ok but the crostini w/ the olive tapanade was SO salty.  Should have tried their tater tots or truffled fries instead or in addition to the steamers...  Oh well, we just didn't want to stay much longer - time to hit other Happy Hours while the evening is still young.

Wow, what a great creative place to get some great food!  Starting with the drink menu, Ten 01 was innovative, brave, and delicious.  They had a solid wine selection, creative and interesting cocktails, and a very creative menu as well.

After two delicious gin cocktails, which we guarded like our own children, not wanting to share because each of us thought we had the best one, we had Beef carpaccio with fried oysters, which I thought sounded too strange to be good, but actually worked really well. It would be a theme for the night.  The cauliflower and onion soup was delicious and rich and oily.  The lamb with goat cheese gnocchi, the pork belly, and an incredible flourless chocolate cake with sage ice cream to finish.

I would go back here in a heartbeat if I lived in Portland.  Will upload some pictures when I get the chance.  The one note is that I would have given them five stars easy, but the service was inconsistent.  Maybe we weren't dressed well enough?  Not sure, but at the start of the night the service was pretty slow.  By the end, we were on cruise control, talking to the manager, getting recommendations for bars to visit that night and wineries to visit the next day, but in the beginning it really was a bit rough, waiting quite a while to order drinks, get drinks, get refilled after emptying drinks, etc.  I think you could easily have a five star meal here, but we should have too really.

All that said, I would definitely go back, and that says a lot for a $200+ meal.

Excellent!  Stopped in for a quick happy hour nosh, had the Fried Green Tomatoes and some Corn Chowder shots.  Very tasty!  The dinner menu looks great and I can't wait to come back and try it.

Service was knowledgeable (we grilled the poor guy about drinks and he hung in there admirably), the decor lovely (as you would expect from what must be one of the priciest commercial leases in the state), and the vibe was friendly and welcoming.

This place should have a nice future!

Awesome happy hour full of flavor

Oh no, another great happy hour with incredibly delicious AND cheap nibbles. How could you ever decide between the sliders, truffle fries, barbecue sandwich or lasagna? You can't so it's best to just order all of them. That's where the oh no comes into play for your waistline. Their cocktails are tasty too, and they also offer half bottles of wine, which is perfectly paired with their appetizers. All are reduced during happy hour, which always scores big points with me and my friends. The decor is fabulous too, which makes you feel like you're spending big bucks in a fancy place without emptying your wallet.

Tip: Happy Hour is Monday through Friday, 4 to 6 p.m.

I am very, very biased....our bartender looked just like Lenny Kravitz, vintage hot Lenny with long dreads. And I loooove Lenny....

So I'm happy. He could have served me dirty bath water in a dixie cup and it wouls have been the best thing ever....

We had the charcuterie plate, great selection of all house cured meats and cute little gerkins (think baby fingers) I tried the Paloma cocktail with tequila, grapefruit something else and a sprinkle of salt.

I look forward to going again next time we are in town!
