Review from Zac S.
Many of the trails were closed and for some reason (large storm?) trees were down in the trails that were open
Our guide book said to check out the whirlpool just before the falls that acted like a funnel for the river, meaning that if the flow were heavy enough, it would get backed up and begin a twisting larger than life bathtub like effect, only large enough to spin your buick.
We were tired. This was our 5th park in 36 hours.
We were on our way to our next "hotel" and really wanted to see this.
The girl at the park entrance looked at us like we were on heroin.
Her: "A whirlpool?"
Me: "Yeah, like, where the water TURNS in a circle?"
Her: "Maybe you are confused and mean the Cascade River Park up the road."
Me: "we were there yesterday, so no, I am not confused."
So, the wife, in her wisdom, removed us from the small building and went to the bathroom, and found it our damn selves.
This park seems like it could be quite dangerous, slippery and raging.
The water isn't so high as to make a whirlpool, but there are many overlooks built into the trail so you can see various parts of the descent, and if you go far enough up, you can see where the water is calm and the river wide enough to wade in, and imagine you are fly fishing or in alaska or some such. whatever floats your boat, you know?
Just don't fall in, cuz the lady in the office sure as hell aint going to pull you out.Listed in: My Own Guide to the North…
