Simply awesome!! I've boarded at various resorts around the world and Telluride holds a special place in my heart!
Because the town of telluride is quite isolated in its little corner of the San Juan Mountains you'll never have to stand in a lift line or worry about getting up early to catch that morning powder... even in peak peak season (i.e. christmas). The runs offer something for everyone from the beginner to expert.
Breathtaking scenery, cute as a button mountain town and awesome boarding.. what else could you ask for??? just the money to afford to go more often!

Telluride is simply my favorite place on earth. I have spent many summer and winter weeks here. I want to try off-season too. Just love it! Would move my family here if I could!
Unlike Stephanie R., I haven't skied or boarded a lot of resorts, but I must say that Telluride is awesome, although you pay for that awesomeness, especially around the Christmas holiday.
I only started skiing a few years ago and have taken adult group lessons from their ski school, which I highly recommend. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and informative. Please, though, if you take a group lesson, make sure you are honest about your level of skill. Some of the people in our lessons were slowing us down - but fortunately the instructor had the good sense to integrate those people into another group after a run or two. Perhaps one of the best things about taking lessons is that you get in a special line for the lifts and don't have to wait much at all! And, of course, if you're like me, who's married to someone who's been skiing since he was 3, taking lessons lets you ski with people closer to your own level.
As for food, if you're there, be sure to look out for the crepe stand near The Beach (it's at the bottom of lift 4 and where all the shops are). It may have a long line but well worth the wait for a perfect ski snack.
And yes it is amazingly beautiful but yes very high up - you might try chlorophyll before venturing from sea level to that altitude.
As previous reviewers noted: absolutely beautiful setting, and wonderfully short (even non-existent) lines. Also the free gondola makes it real easy to leave the car parked the whole vacation.
Only downside - there's lots of flat spots to work around as a boarder. Seems there's just no good way to get from one area/lift to another without going through some flat trail.
W O W!
When I snowboard here it is so beautiful that I am distracted by the vistas. Telluride is a natural box canyon so you are surrounded by 14,000' peaks. Everywhere you look are the gorgeous San Juan Mountains. Really, it's breathtaking, and by far, the most beautiful resort I've ridden. (side note...I've ridden most of the resorts in Tahoe, Mammoth Mountain, Bear Mountain in CA, Jackson Hole, Vail & Beaver Creek)
The snow is exquisite, the vertical drop over 3,000', and the terrain favors the intermediate and advanced skier and rider. There are beginner runs as well, but they only comprise 28%. Lift tickets are around $80 and they are worth every penny.
The altitude is considerable, and if you live at the beach (sea level), like me, sleep at the lowest altitude possible. Or hit up ski patrol for some of their oxygen. Your muscles are going to need it, and I'm not kidding. You might not have visible signs of altitude sickness, like vomiting, but your legs may have trouble supporting you when you are on the snow. Case in point, I already had about 35-40 days on the mountain that year...but I lived at the beach. The day I flew in, I rode a half day...mostly black and double black diamonds. After a night of sleeping in Telluride (NOT the mountain village above it), I felt fine. However, when I got off the lift and headed down the same expert run I had aced the day before, my legs kept giving out. I had no idea why. They just wouldn't work. It was freaky. I rarely fall...maybe once a season...twice if someone else wipes me out from behind. Anyway, I tumbled end over end down that run, laughing the whole way....got to the bottom...went into the pro shop and bought my first helmet. Just a heads up.
Telluride is the best mountain I've ever ridden. I wish I were snowboarding there now!
