I came here with a friend, starving face and looking for a burger and beer fix.
I ordered the burger and added:
cheese
bacon
mushrooms
guacamole
and also ordered a:
Brooklyn Summer Ale
It was:
delicious
tasty
filling
spot-hitting
juicy, and other positive adjective pertaining to food.
My friend had a burger with bleu cheese or some shit and a beer and wouldn't shut up about his meal either.
This place is pretty damn good and I want to come back and try the fish and chips and the other wondrous pub foods.
Perfect if you want a burger and a few beers.
I went here for brunch once as well but I preferred my second experience(hint: the one with the burger).
I've been here 3 times - twice for dinner and one failed attempt at brunch.
I noticed a pattern here:
1st visit: Very nice, good food, decent enough service (not memorable, I guess) - which compelled us to return.
2nd visit: Brunch. We asked for a seat, but the host - a very young guy who didn't seem to notice that the restaurant was open and that people standing around were hoping for seats - vaguely motioned to a table next to the bar. We asked if it would be ok to be seated in the dining area, not near the bar, what with all the open tables...and were promptly told to wait for a certain table to clear (something about different servers' sections...What?) The host disappeared, the waitresses all ignored us, and after a long wait we were told that we were waiting for a table to clear after the patron returned from the restroom. Really? After 20 minutes? And a few open tables availalble in another section? Right. Not worth it - we decided to leave and have brunch at The Lovin' Cup, which was nice.
Visit 3: We were in the neighborhood and figuring this place would redeem itself, we arrived a little early for dinner and were instructed to sit and order a drink. The hostess served our drinks and said we'd be given dinner menus as soon as the kitchen opened. Sounded good, but...25 minutes later...hmm. People came in, and when the kitchen opened, all people were given menus. Oh, except us. Then more people came in - and we still weren't given any menus or even asked about drinks. Finally, after flagging down a hostess we were given a menu. BUT nobody came by to take our orders. FINALLY, a waitress noticed us gesturing and came by. No eye contact, and every time we needed something we had to try and hail someone else. The best staff at this FINAL visit was the busboy - I was tempted to simply shake his hand and palm him the tip, since 95% of the customer service we received was from him, not the other staff.
Oh, the food? How was it? I kind of forget, since so much time was devoted to hailing a server.
I get it - it's busy sometimes. But tonight it wasn't. The dining room isn't too huge, and we were in a visible seated area. I'm sympathetic as a former barista/server but after TWO bad experiences, even my patience was tested.
Not coming here or recommending ever again after tonight. We can get better food and service at any of the other nearby restaurants.
I went to Teddy's tonight to watch the Yankee Championship game, have some food and some beers. The game was on, but the stereo system was playing 1970's country music. I asked 3 different people if they can play the sound from the TV over the sound system and was told "we are playing music now, we don't to mess with the ambiance of the diners". That was the answer I got from the female owner and a bartender. (mind you the music is only on in the bar area, not in the back)
This place has changed way to much. It used to be a neighborhood place, but now apparently they aren't wanted...This is NY, and the Yankees are playing at the bar, yet they are playing Johnny Cash.
Because you don't want to mess with the "ambiance of the diners". Ugh.
I stayed anyway because the game started. The food was mediocre at best (burger). But the attitude of the bar staff left the worst taste in my mouth. I will take my money elsewhere next time.
The food at brunch was pretty good, the service, however was not. After waiting 30 minutes for our pancakes we went searching for the waitress only to find her sitting by the bar eating her own breakfast! She returned soon after with our food, lukewarm at that point. I'm pretty sure it had been sitting in the kitchen while she sat there and forgot about us.
For food everyone at the table agreed that the french toast sandwich was fantastic, one friend ordered it leaving the rest of us eyeing her jealously throughout the meal. I got the pancakes which were decent.
I'd recommend it for a leisurely weekend brunch as long as you're not too hungry and don't need to be anywhere afterwards.
Also watch out for the halloween decorations, we had a great window seat but the downside was that I came away with fake cobwebs stuck all over my hair.
Teddy's has a great veggie burger, and a nice nacho... The service was a little slow and it was Freezing in their back room. But its so convenient from where I live that I can't help but love it. The staff is nice, and the crowd is very courteous.
I've been going to Teddy's for years. This brunch is amazing. I've had everything from standard omelet to mescaline Cactus I don't think I've eaten Cactus anywhere else? They had an amazing vegetarian Cubano Sammich.
It's a relaxed atmosphere and a good starting point before doing the Brooklyn Brewery Tour or getting a bit of the hair of the dog that bit you on the ass- the best Bloody Mary in the universe.
I am so surprised to see such positive reviews of Teddy's. I am actually fairly surprised that Teddy and his crappy restaurant are still in business with far superior options (see Relish) within a few blocks of this place.
Upon being seated by the tween hostess, I noticed an ample layer of filth on the bench, including but not limited to pieces of tomato, a straw wrapper and all variety of sandwich detritus.
The bloody mary was totally unremarkable. Since they didn't have the veggie burger that day (thereby eliminating 1/10 of the lunch menu) I ordered some veggie concoction of a sandwich. It was 1) stale 2) soggy and 3) icky. Most of my companion's french fries flew off the plate and onto the floor on their way to our table. Although the waitress said "I'll get you some more", they never came.
$34 later (this got us 2 crappy sandwiches and 1 bloody mary), we were cursing whatever wind blew us into Teddy's.
Looks like a great bar, and it is one. Neighborhood place taken over by arty types. Conversations. Music, Sometimes live. Food B plus to A minus. Eggs Benedict great. Hamburger very good. You can be alone at the bar if you want. Or not.
You can buy whiskey by the inch if you're interested.
If you really like hot wings, you must go to croxley ales locted in alphabet city... Otherwise, although i never drank in here, i always came for the wings... If you REALLY like hot wings, Teddy's sauce is good enough to drink after everything is gone... And i Like hot wings...
Otherwise, i love teddy's for surprisingly great service and, The food that is very well made... Whether i order over the phone or go there for lunch, im always really impressed with the place and i really appreciate their efforts!
Do you like Hot Wings?
Teddy's is one of my favorite Williamsburg eateries. I like that people from all different walks of life come here, not just hipsters. The food is great and moderately priced. My favorite is the Cubano sandwich, but I always look forward to the daily and seasonal specials. The desserts are also fabulous. The service is good from the "regulars," but can be spotty from a newer waitress.
I used to come here quite often, but I bid it adios when I had an almost year long hiatus of trying other places for brunch. Today my boyfriend and I decided to come here again for old times sake and we wondered we why we ever left!
The bar and wait staff have always been friendly and sunny - it must be the huge windows that cover the entire restaurant - there's so much light here that it's hard not to be cheerful here.
The drinks here are awesome, especially the Bloody Mary's, which are decorated by a practical salad of veggies (there's a pickle, a big hunk of carrot, a stick of celery, and of course olives). I also love the hot mulled wine on a cold winter day.
Last, but not least, the food is really good. There are tons of options on the menu, most are either American classics like burgers and fries or some Latin inspired dishes. My favorite brunch meal is the Eggs Yucatan, which are two corn cakes, each topped with a slice of Canadian Bacon, salsa, and a poached egg. Mmmmmm.....yum.
Did I mention the prices are really, really reasonable with most dishes falling under $10??
Teddy's I'm going to quit my cheating ways and become a regular once again!
Is it just me or did something change here? I've been coming to Teddy's on and off for like 5 years or so, and I've never had a crappy time/crappy food/crappy service/crappity crap crap, UNTIIIIIIIIIIL about 3-4 weeks ago when I came here for Sunday brunch with my man and his BFF...
It was kind of empty, which was surprising given the prime hipsters-waking-to-hangovers hour, and the first thing I noticed was that the usual cute lady at the door/clearing tables wasn't there. I have no idea what this lady's name was, or what she did in her free time (I assume she cured cancer and saved the city from destruction in some kind of superhero costume), but she was always cute and sunny and friendly and I was confused to NOT see her.
So we were seated and I noticed that the service was remarkably surlier than usual! Wow. Nice. My man's BFF and I got 2 completely flat, nasty sodas, and when we talked to the waitress about this, she was like "yeah, I thought so." And then she walked away. Bye! Thanks for the help, sunshine! So... the short version is that we had no sodas or soda substitutes, and that was a bummer.
The larger bummer, however, was the food. I have NEVER had bad food at Teddy's. The portobello cubano made me reconsider my loathing of all things portobello, and the veggie burger was solid. Except for today, when it was burnt to shit AND half-frozen. Wheee!
The food sucked universally, which is new, the service was shit, which is new... Something just feels different here, and I hate it. Thank you and good night.
Great neighborhood establishment! Great brews, great burgers, always showing sports on flatscreen tv's - even has live music several nights a week. Can't recommend this place more!
No excuse for me not updating to five stars. My go-to weekend brunch. Good prices for huge portions. Consistently good food. Artwork rotates in the back room. I bring family here, friends from Brooklyn, friends from outside Brooklyn, friends from out of state. Had a group of ten accommodated in about 10 minutes.
Service fluctuates, but the last few waitresses I've had there have been attentive and friendly.
I've still never been for dinner :-P Their brunch is just so good!

Arrived on a Friday at 1pm to get out of the heat. I was by myself so seating was fairly quick. I saw tables that could seat 8 and a few groups of around 6. The staff is quick to adjust tables to accommodate guests quickly. All the tables were full in the front of the house.
I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Burger with a side of spiral-cut spicy fries and a beer (forget which one, but they do have good beers). The chicken burger was juicy and super moist. I appreciate it when restaurants can cook simple things extremely well. The burger was about 1-inch thick and had a nice even heat to it from the peppers. They grilled it perfectly and that added a nice smoke to it. The patty was the best part of the burger, with the bun being just okay.
Disappointing was the spicy fries. It is difficult to find fries that are supposed to be spicy...that are spicy. These were mild at best and forgettable. All of the food was quite salty, but balanced with a beer it is perfect. If you do not get a beer, it may be on the saltier side for you.
If you are looking for hand-holding service...then what are you doing at a Bar & Grill? The staff here works extremely hard and together to get food and drinks out. The bartender was the one that delivered the food in my case. I appreciate when the staff works fast and together as a unit. Respect to the crew here. I was checked on and everything went smoothly without issues. They may not sit and chat with you, but it seems if you know the staff, you are treated like family.
Nice atmosphere and vibe to this place. Everything works well together. The price is okay. If you are looking for good beer, solid food, and just a chill time, Teddy's Bar & Grill is a good choice. It may not be a place I would clammer to get back to, but it is a restaurant to visit again in the near future.
On average, this place is EXCELLENT for a sit down dinner in Williamsburg. My fiancee and I go there about once a month and every meal is consistently good and the service is excellent.
Just had their wonderful catfish tacos with watermelon salsa. Spicy, fresh and delicious.
This is a real local place with great imagination on the menu.
i forgot to mention that if you go for brunch absolutely get the baked cajun grits. i will get out of bed with two hours sleep just thinking about them!

I love Teddy's. This was one of the first places I went to when I moved to Williamsburg. It is a great pub, with great beers on tap. Food is great. I love the mussels in white wine, I literally wanted to drink the broth.
I have also had the chicken burger, which is moist and a nice change from beef. Nachos are good, roasted tomato soup comes with mini grilled cheese!
I was here for brunch . . .what a nightmare. Overcrowded, with a crowd consisting of people I'd prefer not to be around. Weak, watery bloody mary (I almost said weak, watery BM). Boringly-average pancake.
Yeah, brunch is kind of a joke anywhere, really, but I'll not be returning to this one.
Also an assistant pastor from my church was there. That was weird.
Hey Veggies...
Teddy's just added a steamed veggie plate..
Now, I know this sounds boring.. but in no way is it!
The plate is overflowing with leeks, mashed sweet potatoes, farro (a grain), grilled onion, carrots, broccoli, etc...
It's tastier than the portabello sandwich you were going to eat.. I promise!

I'm a big fan of Teddy's. It's a really good pub in a neighborhood that's somewhat lacking in good pub food. Teddy's shines for its big menu (something to satisfy everyone, and everything is done well), it's relaxed vibe, and awesome staff. I highly recommend the steak sandwich! The front room (where the bar is) is pretty loud and chaotic. Sit in the small back room if you're looking for a little more peace and quiet.
I like this place a lot. It's great when you want to eat out and want dependable food. Great selections and a huge menu that has something for everyone. Also, this summer they have some great specials (like BBQ chicken dinner w/ watermelon) and live music on many nights of the week. Great beers on tap too.
Hooray for Teddy's! This place has never let me down. Well, maybe once or twice, but I was probably hungover and just appreciated having nourishment. And their Bloody Mary's are just awesome-they come in a pint glass!
The veggie burgers are great, they always have interesting and tasty specials, beer, wine, cocktails-a fantastic neighborhood place.
Very good bloody marys. Even better Basil Lemonaide (which you can get spiked, or virginal).
And the food is pretty yummm.
But the best part is the super cute and friendly bartender who made me the Basil Lemonaide, and then let me change my mind and put rum in it after all. Good conversationalist, and this girl can pour.
And when the weather's nice, you can relax outside on a bench on the sidewalk, surrounded by potted plants and watch the locals stroll by in their perfect people watching way.
One of the more popular spots in the area to grab a beer and a bite to eat. Because of this, you can expect the place to be really crowded and you can expect the service to be just okay.
As with many spots like this, the best idea is to head straight for the bar for the best service. The beer selection is okay, but not excellent. It's sort of typical of some Brooklyn bars to leave out the basics due to the high demand of microbrews and such from the Williamsburg ilk.
The menu leaves a lot to be desired. I feel like I'm going to get heartburn by just about everything on the menu from the log cabin stack (ribs, with some serious sauce) to the big bowl of oysters in spicy tomato sauce. I will say that they have the absolute best Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad on the planet, and I get it pretty much everytime I go there.
I want to love this place, but I can't. It's great, but for my taste, the options are limited on the food and beer fronts. Luckily in Williamsburg, you have many options. This is a good place to get your all-american cuisine.
Solid if you are looking for a burger, wings, fish and chips.. etc. Good beers on tap and the waitresses seem like they are always hammered.. so they give you lots of stuff for free.
i like teddy's. i go there for "brunch" with my friends that live in the billyburg/cobble hill area of town.
the service isn't always that hot ... in fact sometimes it's downright sour. last time we were there our waitress was eating in the middle of serving, so she wasn't really doing much serving. our drinks were empty for almost the entire meal, we didn't get ketchup or hot sauce til we were about finished, and we also desperately needed some napkins.
it is a TASTY joint, however. the cobb salad was definitely a highlight. i don't ever really order brunch food ... i'm funny about that, so i'm glad they have a lunch menu available when i want salad and everyone else wants pancakes and fried potatoes.
my friends didn't like their "hash browns," and i wouldn't exactly call them that cause i'm from the south and we prepare ours differently.
but the eggs were apparently delicious.
we'll prolly be back, and it'll prolly be tasty. team teddy.
ps - a little on the expensive side. but we ARE in the heart of billyb.
According to their sign outside, Teddy's was established in 1878, 1868...something like that.
Long time.
I like coming to Teddy's for brunch. If you have to wait for a table just go to the bar and get one of their giant Bloody Mary's.
And they are all that.
Spicy, with a good amount of horseradish, celery, a big carrot, a few olives...could do w/ some pickled okra or string beans though.
Today I had the Andres Rancheros...good good. Coffee good.
Our waitress was great. Actually, my cousin asked her for more onions for his bagel platter and it took her a minute to bring them but when she did bring the onions she sincerely said to him, and I quote, "I really hope I'm not too late".
I know it doesn't sound like a big deal. It was in her tone.
She cared. Really.
Another time I came with a friend from New Orleans and he noticed they have Sazarac at the bar. Now to make the drink properly...well I don't know...but you just don't pour it into the glass and I think you add absinthe or pastis.
He asked our waitress for one, and asked her if she or the bartender knew how to make it...they didn't but were willing to try.
Williness to try. That's a good thing.
Hey man, Teddy's is tried and true, aiiight? No it ain't the best food on the planet, but I have to say, that I have had many a good meal here. They have great salads which you can top with salmon or grilled chicken. The burgers are really good, and the Cubano is quite possibly the best cuban sandwich I've ever had! Dead ass serious!
They always have a nice selection of wines and the menu is HUMONGO! I challenge you to not find something on this menu that suits you! The choices are endless! It's like we have our own local cheesecake factory, but without the....er....cheescake.
Anyhow, I also really love the vibe here. The crowd is diverse, representing EVERYBODY who walks the streets of the burg. It's real slice of life, ya know. Down home. love dat shit.
Well from the outside, Teddy's appears to be a very cool, hip place with a great big stained glass awning that reads, "Peter Doelger's Free Beer". From that our group was sold; however Peter Doelgers hasn't visited in years. Upon walking in, they have a decent size bar, tables arraigned throughout the small restaurant and one area that has a couple tables on it that have bluish tapestries that would be good for a date type setting. I have to say though, besides being cool on the outside, the place was packed and the drink and food were not up to par.
I shared the burger with goat cheese and grilled onions, according to our waitress and the hostess....these burgers were to be juicy, huge and absolutely delicious. Well not even close...ordering medium rare and receiving it medium, really killed the flavor, but the burger wasn't as big as they had said and the bun was tasteless and kinda hard. The curly fries were good and the Brooklyn Lager was also tasty. However the bartender was slow and not that friendly.....the Pinot Noir was watery and overpriced and our friends had order Johnny Walker straight up which was placed in a tumbler glass and hardly any whiskey given, besides the 6.00 charge. Overall, Teddy's Bar & Grill was a poor choice and I would not go back again. Next time I plan on going to Williamsburg, I'll head to Juliette's or another restaurant in the area.
it used to be my favor bar with its awesome Brooklyn style burgers and great atmosphere which unfortunately have changed when Williamsburg got a makeover and lots of village-kind of people moved in which I absolutely have nothing against but it did changed the scenery of the bar. The bar still have good food and fresh Brooklyn Lager but it's a place I'd rather go to around 2PM when the lunch people have left, sit down with a couple of friends at the bar, have some Brooklyn or Guinness with a platter of buffalo wings and leave around 6PM when the dinner people are starting to show up. They have a back room for parties but I was never a fan as it resembles more of your dining room than an Irish bar
Only been here a few times for Sunday brunch, but the food is always good to me. Can't say anything about the bloody marys personally (I just don't like 'em), but other bloody mary-drinking people have told me they're delicious.
Waitresses seem pleasant enough, and I love the old brick walls. Very cute place, and a good place to nurse a hangover.
alright, alright so the food at Teddy's is in question sometimes. I have never had a problem with the food there. It's always been deliscious but...I guess the menu is easy to get bored of, even with it's quirky items like "mounds of punjabi spinach" and stuffed spicey shrimp with cheese.
Regardless it's totally a staple of williamsburg dining. The french toast sandwich is deeeelectable!! And I have made at least 3 people try it and they thought the same. Perfect hangover brunching!!
greasy goodness....ohhhhhhhh
"Where should we go to brunch?"
"Um, Teddy's of course!"
Okay, so I'm a bit obsessed with brunchin' it at Teddy's to the point of wrastlin' friends into lovin' it. So, yeah, it may not have the same cool atmosphere as Relish, but fuck it, the menu's the best in the neighborhood, or shall I say, menus. Teddy's has two brunch menus, including one which is viva Mexican. And, well I love Mexican. I choose from Andres Rancheros, Huevos Mexicano, or the Guallijo one. Tasty and filling to the last bite. Oh, and let's not forget to mention their Bloody Mary's. Hello! Wonderful wake-up call. Have two and you may be screaming with your best friend in the streets at 2pm, and decide you have to go to the liquor store to drink more. But hey, that's up to you. But dare I say, Teddy's has made many weekend afternoons simply brilliant.
I was excited about ordering the ham and swiss french toast sandwich, but it tasted like it had been sitting out for a couple days. The fries were freezer burned. The coffee was like water.
A good place to go for a beer, but it's worth waiting for brunch at another place to avoid coming here for the food.
This place is a fairly safe choice for All American food, decent bar and ok service. Nothing in here is going to set the world on fire, but this place is a decent corner bar, neighborhood spot. I hate to be vague, but you've been to this sort of place in your town, maybe more than once, its pub grub with a serviceable bar, a couple of tvs and a somewhat quirky owner who can tell you some stories about the 'hood back when.
Teddy's is a classic!! the brunch and dinner rules!! I fell in love with Teddy's the first time I went there and have not been disappointed since! Prices are ok (not expensive but not neccessarily "cheap" either). The menu is not the most extensive that I've seen but the cuisine is fairly eclectic and almost every dish I've tried has been perfected in my opinion. They have all kinds of crazy specials/seasonal dishes too!! To tell you the truth, I am such a fat-girl at heart that I have DREAMT about Teddies before...ok people..it's that goooooood.
UPDATE: I have to remove a star because..yeah the food is really good but you sometimes (more often than not) have to wait FOREVER to get served AND there's this like 2 hour period where they don't serve any food AT ALL (like from 4-6 or something). so that's pretty lame.
i like it.
today, i went there for lunch, and my friend and i ordered the mussels, cabana shrimp, and caesar salad. the mussels were delicious! the cabana shrimp was small-portioned and wrapped in bacon.
i've been there for brunch before, and it is one of the best.
Went there strictly for appetizers. I don't know if she was nearing the end of her shift but our waitress was so lackadaisical. We couldn't rely on her to give us any good pointers. Wings were great. The nacho supreme was my favorite. The meat on the BBQ ribs was way too hard. I wish i never ordered it. Aside from that, the decor was nice. Would come back, strictly for the nachos.
This place is not that good. The food is inconsistent, and the service is consistently terrible. The waitstaff is rude and I always feel like they are rushing me through brunch.
