Karin = god send

Using the elliptical 5 times a week for a few months, took its toll on my hips. Karin figured out the source of the tension and was able to release all of it.

I think your experience here depends on your masseuse, mine was just okay.

I came in for a sports massage the day after a 16 mile run. Given the wonderful yelp reviews, I was expecting just a little bit extra relief from my soreness... especially since the price was more than my usual place. The massage was okay, but nothing special. The pressure was a little light for my taste. I may give the teal center another try with a different therapist.

Note, you cannot tip on your credit card.

I  agree with all of the great reviews here.  This is the place to go for a 'real' massage if you are in need.  No, it;s not fancy or fru fru, but fru fru isn't gonna make your back feel better.  My longtime therapist Leo left several months ago so I am trying out some other therapists, but my sense is, any one of them will do a fine job.  Their prices are reasonable, their location is convenient and their hours are good.  Definitely 5 stars!

Wow!  Loved Nishanka.  I went in for a "relaxation" massage after feeling super achy from a long run.  What I loved was that she seemed to have a thorough understanding of my muscle placement so she knew how to pull and rub it all in the right way.  It's not a posh space, but I'm not there for a posh space.  I'm there for a GOOD MASSAGE.  She mixed in a little acupressure.  I felt great!  When we finished, Nishanka was also kind enough to point out some alignment issues that she noticed (for example, a shoulder that seemed to be pulling forward and a calf that was rather tight).  She then recommended some stretches to help with my realignment.  I will definitely be back.

My experience was excellent overall.  Like some other reviewers have mentioned, this is probably not the place for you if you are looking for a plush, girly girl retreat.  So, if you can look past that, or are looking for a more medically-oriented place to work out the kinks in your back, this place is for you.

Although I like more spa-like places, the Teal Center Ballston location was very convenient to where I work, and I was looking for a place that could treat both back stiffness and stress-related tension headaches, so I was willing to forgo a plush atmosphere.

I booked a one-hour appointment with Nan, and she was phenomenal.  She used a variety of massage techniques, including myofascial, deep tissue, and accu-pressure.  It worked wonders for my headaches and overall tension in general.  Her technique on my neck, shoulders, and head, was especially good

A few downsides.

1.  The room that I was in for the massage faced the street, so sometimes I could hear the traffic outside if a horn honked or a large truck drove by.  Also, I wish they had room darkening curtains, since the vertical blinds let in a bit too much light.

2.  The Teal Center only had a water cooler with those ridiculous small cone shaped cups.  I know they don't aim for the spa-like atmosphere, but a fridge with bottled water would have been nice so that I could have taken it with me on my walk back to the metro.

Despite a few downsides, I will definitely make future appointments at the Teal Center.

Absolutely GREAT!! I've been to a few massage therapists and have never been able to say that I was "healed" a few days later. Karin is by far the best massage therapist I've ever had. She knows so much! I dislocated my knee last summer and kept running on it. Well, that injury threw off the rest of me and I ended up really injuring my hip. She was very patient and explained what she thought happened. Funny thing is I went to an othorpedic specialist the next day and he described the same thing --- just not as well!

I highly recommend her.

My clear cut choice for quality massage in the area.
After some injuries, I started coming here as a client in 2005 and have seen a variety of people.  This center has some of the most skilled therapists in the area all under one roof, with the technical knowledge of the body I needed, not just rubbing and sending you on your way.  This is not a spa atmosphere, although you can still come here and receive a great relaxing massage.  If you prefer teas, robes, showers, there are better places to visit.
Specialty here is pain management and relief, which I had great personal success with.  All types of massage are offered but you've got to find a person that works for you, as with any massage place, but they offer such variety, you'd be hard pressed not to.
Convenient location by metro and weeknight/weekend hours were a big plus for me, prices are on par with other places in the area, but I'd contest the quality is much higher here the same $$ elsewhere...

These are the best massage therapists in the DC area by a long shot. It took me a year of testing massage therapists before I found these guys. I go to Luis Santiago for Thai and deep tissue masssage and Vivek Jayadeva  for the Myofascial Release, and they are both amazing. I've heard the other therapists are also very good.

still keep coming here, and the therapists continue to take great care of their clients! because of them, i'm completely spoiled now that i can't just get a massage at any random spa. so i stick to massage only places when traveling (for example, if you're ever in Chicago, check out my review on Urban Oasis). prices are comparable to other places i've been to in other cities, but the therapists here are really personable, continue to work with you at each session, and are just plain awesome.

FYI: They've updated the Randolph Towers lobby since I was there last year (new furniture and front desk - not pictured) and they moved out of the hospital rooms on the 3rd floor and into the new Teal Center suite location in the Virginia Hospital Center Women & Infant Center lobby.

I love the Teal Center! I started going there for acupuncture after a back injury. My acupuncturist, Kate, was very knowledgeable and helpful. She even incorporated a few short massages to work out problem areas during my acupuncture visits. She was so amazing that I decided to get a massage from her at a later date. She was wonderful!

I've only had Swedish massages by Kate and Allison, but they were first rate. A friend of mine just had a deep tissue massage at the Teal Center and he said his therapist worked wonders on his sore spots!

I also love the way the place smells when you walk into the office. The rooms and employees have such an aura of peace. I'm always in a much better mood after leaving.

The only down sides are the high price and inconvenient parking at the Ballston office.

I went to Teal Massage once several years ago.  I'm an older guy.  I have injured one of my shoulders several times over many years.  Anyway, I went there hoping to get some relief.  I can't remember the massage therapist's name.  Anyway, while there I was chatting during the massage, and I must have said something that offended her because just before she finished she said, that she would never massage me again and that I should request a male massage therapist.  I aplogized profusely, and in fact sent an email t he next day to the management apologizing.  For thel ife of me I still have no idea what I might have said,  I did not ask for anything "extra" nor did I suggest anything of the sort, I did not ask her to touch me anywhere in appropirate or anything.

Needless to say, I have not gone back.  I was at first embarassed by  the experience and then became irritated because when I asked what I had done she would  or could not be specific about anything I said.

This place changed my life--seriously!  I had been seeing one of the therapists for massage when she recommended I try acupuncture to treat some symptoms I'd been having for several years.  After about 6 visits, not only am I symptom free, but off medication for the first time in YEARS.

I squeal for Teal!
If you want a waffle-robe padded, girly girl getaway, this isn't the spot, but if you wants an incredible massage in an incredibly peaceful spot, go to The Teal Center in Arlington. It's just blocks from the Metro and there's parking in the building. Don't be fooled by the non-descript hulking apt. building that houses it. And don't be fooled by the name, teal has nothing to do with the malibu-barbie shade of color, it's the owner's last name. Brenda Teal has been a zealous leader in training and staffing her massage center with professionals who take a holistic approach. If you want an all-over relaxation, there's someone there for you. If you're suffering from sinus headaches, there's someone there. If your abductors feel as if they're made of concrete rebar, there's more than a few folks here to smooth it out. Many are athletes and can speak specifically to sports injuries. I've been going there for eight years and just walking into the place immediately relaxes me and it's just the smell and quiet. Leo, Heather, Tammy, Brenda and Louis are my favorites, but you can't go wrong. Although there's no showers or free lotions and potions, you won't pay for it. An hour massage goes for $85.

I didn't have such a hot experience.  First I call to make an appointment and was able to get one for the next day which was a Sunday.  That honestly threw me off a little because all of the other reviews made this place sound so great that I expected them to be booked up for awhile.  I showed up the next day and as soon as I walked in I was again thrown by how shabby everything is inside, including an old sofa with a sheet thrown over it to cover it up in the waiting area.  Not nice.  I checked in with the receptionist who just stared at me blankly and talked very slowly and in a very confused way, which I think is her norm because she sounded exactly like the person I made my appointment with.  Or as the receptionist would say, "uhhhh - what appointment?"  Yeah.  They lost it.  And blamed it on a computer issue but then she's sitting there with a paper appointment book in front of her that contained appointments for that week and the week before.  I reminded her that I had just made it the day before and she just stared at me and goes, "....well - it's gone."  So I left.  A few hours later someone else called who seemed a little more with it and apologized and asked me to call back to schedule a massage at a discounted rate.  I decide to give it another shot because the reviews were just so good and asked for another weekend appointment.  There were so many available on both Saturday and Sunday.  I guess worrying about this place being really popular and booked isn't an issue.  At least it makes it convenient.

When I went in for the massage the rate was only discounted 9 dollars.  Seriously?? 9??  The number seemed so random until I figured out it was 10% off.  I had asked for a deep tissue massage but I just ended up with a standard weak rubdown.  Every now and then she would just totally stop and then I realized that's when she was probably infusing me with positive energy or some such thing.  I'd rather she did it while still massaging me.  I asked for the whole hour to be focused on my neck and back and still walked out feeling only mildly looser.  In fact my lower back felt a little worse.  It was pretty worthless overall.  The therapist seemed nice though.  I just feel like I wasted money and time on this place.

If you do decide to go, the rates went up Jan 1 so they are now:
1 hr - $90
1.5 hr - $135
2 hr - $180

I love this place!  Sure, I only went there once, but I love it. If only the pleasant and skilled massage therapist wasn't so cute and named the same as my ex-girlfriend, I'd have gone back many times.

i went here once for a sports massage - its interesting, when i left i did not feel the immediate results and thought i had wasted time and money....but when i went back to running, i realized whatever the therapist did helped, i didn't have the nagging injury i had before went there.  so if its a sports massage you need, maybe go, but i go to a spa place for a regular massage if i'm injury free.

Very uncooperative and slow when it came to billing/insurance matters.  Expect no help when dealing with your insurance company.  Patient received better services elsewhere.  Phone around and you will find places with lower hourly rates, and some even will be in 30 minutes increments.  Will never go back there.
