So... this business moved locations to across the street, but they really need to update their Yelp page. I had a poor experience when I went to their first location once (the service was very slow and unfriendly, and service is big for me), but when I found their new location and checked it out, I was shocked. First of all, and I'm going to be a little brutally honest here, the paint job is horrendous. The front of the building used to be painted in red, yellow, and blue for the toy store that was there, and the new owners kept a lot of the red but then painted over some of it with white and added pink flowers that are crudely painted on to resemble little teapots. The colors clash pretty badly, the paint isn't even thick enough to hide the colors under it, the flower teapots look strange, and it's just badly done.

But once you walk inside, you'll see that it is no longer a restaurant, which is described in their Yelp profile... they just seem to serve loose leaf tea for retail purposes and a whole bunch of knick knacks. It seems to be a gift store now? I went there a couple months ago and it was eerily empty with a lot of open wall space and floor space and just a couple displays in the center of the store. The older woman who was there stared at me as I looked around, which made me feel very uncomfortable. I stopped by again more recently, and it looks like they are welcoming another business that sells coffee (soooooooo many coffee shops now... too many!). Maybe they'll turn into something neat, but we'll see... regardless, they need to update their Yelp profile or just change their name, because this is NO LONGER Tea Tyme and What Nots!

My daughter seen other kids walking around downtown with the light bulb looking drinks and asked someone where they got it and they directed us to the Bubble Tea Shop. Kind of unique and hidden, I've walked by this place many times and couldn't tell you what was in here. As you walk in the store they sell gift items in the front, looks like a coffee shop on one side and a sign that points to bubble tea's on the other. Needless to say, by daughter and niece each ordered a vanilla bubble tea and they really like them. My brother order a smoothie and he said it was good and they use real fruit in the smoothie. If you bring back the bulb shaped cups and reuse them, you receive a quarter discount on your next order. Only suggestion is to redesign store layout, most people I seen enter store were there for the bubble tea, so that should be more visible.

This was such a cute little find! My husband and I visit downtown Fredericksburg a few times a year and we just love all the cute shops! Some of our favorite places to spend time are tea and coffee shops. This place was so cute and cozy. The decor was wonderful and really added to the overall atmosphere. The tea selection was wonderful! I would recommend the hibiscus tea. It's very different but has a nice tart flavor to it!

This is a must see if you are looking for a nice place to enjoy a cup of hot tea by yourself or with friends!

I was so happy with our experience here! The ambiance is wonderful, I felt so fancy. We got Pumpkin Spice tea, which had a lot of great layers to it. Being able to see the people making our food was pretty nice, it felt good knowing it wasn't all pre-made or anything. The salad was really yummy, loved the dressing. But the best part was my sandwich. I got what I believe was something like Veggie Tyme, it's the first sandwich listed. Oh my goodness, it is literally the best sandwich I have ever had, hands down. I could not believe the flavor party happening in my mouth, pure heaven! My fiance got the fruit chicken salad and really liked that as well. For dessert we got the tea cakes (which were kind of just chocolate chip muffins. I was unimpressed but my fiance loved them) and a cranberry orange scone, which was soooo good.

However, there was another couple there, and the owner kind of kept hovering over them, trying to get them to buy jewelry. I was grateful they were there so she wasn't bothering us (then again, we may just not look like the jewelry buying type). I think it'd be better if she just let people browse on their own and didn't push so much, but honestly that was the only negative. The food and tea here is perfect, and we plan to come back again.

The official website for this establishment doesn't match the prices or product that you receive at the establishment. My friend wanted to take her mom here for her birthday for a Royal Tea service. We make a hobby out of going "to tea" and have frequented many different places and styles of tea over the years from high tea to casual afternoon teas. This location touts a royal tea but it wasn't exactly the tea we had expected. (Which isn't their fault exactly... just a little dissapointing which is why I am writing this review.)

My friend made a reservation for three, and upon arrival we assumed our food would be ready for us. Every reservation tea service we have ever done works this way. The girl who recieved us was slow to come take our order and seemed more interested in playing on her cell phone. Even after prompting it still took her a minute to come to the table. Once she got started she was friendly and accomodating.

The royal tea here only comes with one shared pot of tea. There was a long list of tea to choose from and they had a lot of variety but it is a shame that everyone needed to share one flavor and one pot. (We had to order a small individual serving size pot on the side to try something else.) This may seem like a snooty thing to point out, and while it may not seem like a big deal it wasn't what I have ever experienced for a ROYAL TEA (and with and 50.00 price tag...) it wouldn't have been unreasonable for everyone to have their own flavor in an inividual pot.

We were asked to choose three sandwiches from a list, and flavor scone for each which I have never experienced before. The scones were small and hard. The lemon scone's texture was more like a cookie, and the raspberry white chocolate scone had a good flavor but was chewy. The pecan bite and brownie was delicious. Despite there being three of us, there were only two merengue cookies and two pecan bites.

The location is cute and victorian themed. It was clean and they provided accomodation for my 8 month old son in the form of a high chair and a small basket of toys to play with (which was really sweet and thoughtful).

I am just writing this review to let other frequent tea - goers like myself know what to expect, not to bash it. The royal tea was more like a casual tea, the website is inaccurate, and the prices really don't reflect the product you will recieve.

This place has bubble tea!!! And it's good! You can get it made with ANY type of tea the shop sells, as well as fruit flavors too, they sell probably 35+ types of tea. The owner is very sweet, will customize the tea based on sweetness preferences and the bubbles are squishy and fresh :) We will definitely be back!!

I would give it negative stars, if it were possible.

Lured in by an older gentleman who was handed us a free sample on the street. Tea Tyme is located in a run down building on the main shopping district of Fredericksburg.

It was ridiculously hot in there, I asked if they could turn on the AC. 40 plus minutes later it was on, someone informed me that they had turned it on, but didn't turn on the on switch. Go figure.

No one there knew what the hell was going on in there. I have nut allergies, but no one could tell me what had nuts and what didn't. I should have left, when this was the only problem because it only got worse. ...

I had taken my mom there as a treat. We ordered the most expensive tea service on the menu, but she wanted a small sample of the other salads (tuna, chicken, etc), and they were very UNaccommodating, I finally said OMG just charge us whatever extra you want to and give her a freaking scoop of each.

It took FOREVER to get the food must've been at least an hour (they didn't even bring out the freaking tea), and to be honest there really wasn't THAT much food there for $50! It was a VERY small 3 tiered plate and a total of 3 sandwiches cut up, two of the smallest tea cakes ever, 2 very small cookies and 2 scones (that were cut in half). We had to ask for marmalade and clotted cream, which they brought out maybe a tablespoon of each, for two of us!

They didn't have a tray to smell the different teas, either. You had to just guess what they were going to taste like?! I've been to a lot of different tea shops. This was a HUGE disappointment.

Their dishes were nice, but my daughter accidentally pulled one off the table, she's 9 months old. It broke, she charged us for it! She was trying to tell me that she paid $14 for a small saucer, really?? Come on. Why would you buy antiques to use for in a restaurant? I have no problem paying for the dish, but the second it happened, the owner came running out of the kitchen, yelling and screaming.. Cleared our table, food and all and promptly showed us the door. Did we get a doggie bag with the rest of our food in it?? HELL NO.

I do NOT suggest this establishment to anyone, especially anyone with young children. Overall it was a horrible atmosphere, experience, and waste of money.

Tea Tyme is undoubtedly suffering from their poor location deep inside a creepy cinema-turned-mall on the main drag of Fredericksburg. A few of us happened by and were offered samples of their curry chicken salad, which is very tasty and drew us in to the shop itself. Cute concept, exceptionally friendly staff, and over the top decor makes for a pretty setting for a formal tea or just a quick lunch. We went the quick lunch route, ordering one veggie sandwich, one curry chicken on croissant and one curry chicken on lettuce. $7 sandwiches were admittedly a little weak, but my salad took the cake. Another $7 for less than one cup of romaine and three scoops of curry chicken salad that were hardly larger than a melon ball. So disappointing.

We were all still so hungry we ordered dessert, and after finding out that all of them are pre-made except the scones which are baked fresh daily, we went with that option. They were good but not great, and all in all it was probably not worth the money. If you head in, do it for tea and scones alone!

      First to Review

The hot chai tea is pretty good here. It comes with whip cream and really yummy sprinkles that are slightly crunchy. The drink may be a bit heavy, sugary depending on your taste preferences.

Sandwiches are nothing spectacular but decent. Expensive considering they use cheap bagged bread. Sides are not special. Scones are okay and there's usually a few flavors. I've never bought scones from a restaurant so I can't really compare. Huge selection of loose leaf teas that you can also buy by weight. They will let you smell the tea. A pot of tea is quite pricey considering one can boil some at home for less than a buck. They also have petite fours and cheesecake slices but I don't think they are baked in house.

They have a selection of jewelry (that I thought was made by the owner but a jewelry maker friend of mine says the jewelry is imported and bought at wholesale). Anyway, there are a wide selection of crystals (though I'm not sure if they are Swarovski or not but they do look nice). Good prices for crystal jewelry.

Service can be slow during busy times as it seems they are not well staffed.

P.s. Take note of the other reviews. The owner may be friendly on the surface but she can be very pushy. This is enough for me to avoid this place.

Walking downtown on Caroline, I was drawn into Tea Thyme by its vintage sign. Drawn by the flavorful lemon scones, I walked down the historic looking builidng. I was seated by a young women, who waited for me to take the time to look through their very large variety of teas. The decorations provided a really pleasent feel to the resteraunt and it was quite comfortable.

My friend and I were just finishing our sandwiches, which I must say, were presented in a very unique and creative manner, with two flower grapes put in the middle of two cut triangles filled with very tastey chicken curry salad. We were greeted with another server, this time a male, who was very anxious and was trying to intice us for desert by bringing two full cakes right in front us. This seemed a bit pushy and unprofessional. I have never had a resteraunt who tried to sell me food by bringing it to my face while I was seated. A little caught off guard by this act, my friend and I ended up buying a piece to split. It was unpleasently frost bitten and tasted like it just had come out of the freezer.

Despite this experience, I enoyed the victorian atmosphere of the resteraunt and it served as a nice little get away from the usually crowded and hectic resteraunt scene of downtown Fredericksburg.
