Hands down the best Hong Kong style bakery in Queens!
When my family and I were making the big move from Brooklyn to Queens about 2 years ago, we were working on construction and cleaning the new house for about a month. Tea 168 was the bakery by choice for almost every meal we had on the go. Why? Simply because it was fast, convenient, reasonably priced and damn good. You cannot go wrong by ordering the soy sauce noodles or the fried rice. We also on numerous occasions ordered their breakfast special. A, B, or C just for $3.50. All came with a variety of egg on a sandwich, or on the side with your choice of meat (ham, spam, corned beef), oatmeal, macaroni/ramen soup. Coffee/tea, hot or cold, your choice.
They have a great selection of Hong Kong style toast (condensed milk, peanut butter, etc.) and many other goodies. I would also recommend the bubble tea. My favorite is the passion flavored green tea with bubble. Their sago is soft, never hard. Also, when it gets warm out, try the red bean ice!
Though their prices did go up from when I started going here 2 years ago, it's still a steal. Be forewarned that Saturday and Sunday mornings through afternoon are the busiest times of day for them. We usually just call ahead to order, leave the house, drive, and by the time we got there, the order was ready for pick up. They now also have 2 other locations on Kissena Blvd. and on Utopia Pkwy, both conveniently located right off the LIE.
Singapore mai fan was like drinking peanut oil mixed with crispy egg noodles. The bubble tea was powder (as of 2009 summer).
Maybe the other HK-style dishes are better. Let's hope.
Hands down my favorite bubble tea place in NYC. The selection is quite enormous. On a hot summer day, all I can think about are their fruit slushies and iced teas. In the winter, you can order a hot cup of flavored milk tea. I like the almond one. The food is also good and cheap, mix of western and asian.
Cons: quite a trek if you're not familiar with the 'hood or have no wheels. also, as a previous poster noted, their baked goods do not look tasty.
This place is absolutely my home away from home- Hong Kong. I live in Queens, so usually when i'm craving for some Hong Kong style tea house food Flushing just doesn't have the flavor or selection I want.
Conveniently located in Queens, I no longer have to venture out all the way to the Chinatown in Manhattan to savor the HK style flavor.
Me and my sister are the biggest fans of their Breakfast and Lunches. They have a set breakfast menu every morning from 7am-11am, which features a ridiculously cheap and tasty breakfast combo for only 3.50. The breakfast combo includes a variety of selections including macaroni soup with spam, sandwiches with egg and ham, fried eggs with spam or oatmeal. It is paired up with a coffee or tea of your choice. Hot or cold, you choose. I LOVE their ice lemon tea.
I also have a thing towards their lunch selections as well. Whether you're in the mood for some baked pork chop over rice, beef chow fun, Portuguese baked chicken over rice or you're simply craving just r amen noodles with spam and egg, Tea 168 bakery never fails to deliver.
I've never tried their Cakes and Baked goods. They don't look that appealing to me but it is worth giving it a try.
Overall comment: Cheap and good quality HK style nostalgic food for all fellow Hong Kongers and those who would like to explore
This place is awesome for a snack! I swear by their macaroni soup with spam and always add a fried egg. If you dont like macaroni, you can get the ramen noodles with the same ingredients.
The spaghetti with meatsauce is a must try. I dont know what they use but the sauce is delicious. I believe they use ground pork with minced onions and they also top it with a sunny side up egg.
The curry beef stew is also delicious. Good curry flavor and it comes with some potatoes.
What I would stay away from is the portuguse chicken over rice. The sauce is way to yellow and I still dont understand how the coconut flakes are supposed to go with the dish.
Taste is very close to the fast food restaurant in HK. i love going to this place on weekend. However, too little selections on food or I should say i am kind of bored with what are offering. But, not a bad HK style restaurant in Flushing. I love their Fench Toast.
A great place for good simple Asian food. They make the best Beef Chow Fun in the world!
