I had a craving for a hot dog today while down at Pike Place, and lo and behold, there was Taxi Dogs. While it's harder to screw up a hot dog than it is to make a decent one, that doesn't mean that every dog has his day, so to speak. This was an *ok* hot dog stand, but the brat I had was a little tough on the outside skin, without too much flavor inside. The sauerkraut was on the mild side (I like it more sour), so my yellow mustard unfortunately had to carry the dog.
I would give them another shot, perhaps next time trying their kosher dog (it's huge!). Prices are typical given the big-city area, with the brat running me about $5. Definitely not worth the price, but nothing that shocks me. Let's hope the next time around is a little more noteworthy.
For the price of a dog here you could probably get a pack of hot dogs at the grocery store. Isn't that like everywhere else? Granted it might be a bit pricier in comparison to some of the other hot dog vendors on the street, but hey they're actually in a storefront (however small it might be).
After walking the length of the market and trolling in and out, this is a perfect place to stop by for a quick bite. Service is quick and friendly and the dogs are of a decent size to fill.
Their potato salad is actually quite delicious and paired together with a hot dog and a drink make for a meal that will hold you over till your next meal quite easily.
As far as hot dogs go this is the place to get one!!! You can add sauteed onions, peppers, chili and cheese. They have about 5 types of dogs to choose from which is great. If ever at the market try one of these unhealthy delicious treats!
Nice variety of qualtiy sausages served on a chewy kaiser type roll. I had the hot link with Chili, fresh grated cheddar, and sweet relish. I was pretty much sold on the first bite. I'm pretty negative when it comes to hotdogs in Seattle... but this is so far the best hotdog spot in Seattle! Yeah it is a little pricey for a hotdog but don't compare this to costco..and it's at the market. Tourist prices. My girl had the kielbabsa with grilled onions, mustard, and sweet relish... it was damm good!
Taxi Dog serves all kinds of wieners from Kosher to Kielbasa to Hot Links etc. I got the Kielbasa from here when every other food establishment in the Pike Place Market was overflowing with people. It was good, but kind of expensive for just a sausage in a bun.
These dogs are ok, I had a chicken garlic sausage, it was ok.... that's it.
Taxi Dogs doesn't mess around when it comes to a hot dog. A small space located at the north end of Pike Pl. Street (which I refer to as 'the end of the market'), Taxi Dogs serves up a variety of yummy, good-sized, well-priced dogs. They're more like full size sausages, really. One will fill you right up.
If you're like me and need a little variety with your dog, add on some grilled onions or peppers for a small fee. Or, get some yummy potato salad or macaroni salad on the side. OR, you could do what I did last time and go nuts and get a meal, which included my hot dog, potato salad, chips AND a drink, all for around 7 bucks. I couldn't possibly eat all of that food, but the price was actually a few cents cheaper than just the dog and potato salad by themselves.
Taxi Dogs is owned by the same people who own the grocery/deli right next door. My 'dog artist' (I just coined that...get it? Like a subway sandwich artist..ha...ha..) said that if I ever got a hot dog and needed a place to sit, I am more than welcome to use the tables just inside the doors of the grocery/deli. Fancy that! He also gave me a punch card and went ahead and punched 5 purchases on it. It must have been my winning smile.
The ONLY drawback (and I hate that there even IS one) is that they don't take debit cards. Sigh. This is one reason why I don't eat at Taxi Dogs as often as I would like. They do take checks and there is an ATM in the grocery/deli next door. But still!
With one bite of that wiener, I became an insta-fan.
Excellent sausages of all different varieties. Be sure to get the Sea-Town specialty, a dog with cream cheese. Sounds strange, but they are delicious. When I worked in the Market I would alternate between the Weisswurst and the Bratwurst. You can also get them with melted cheese.
Another plus is that almost all the girls at Taxi Dogs are hot! Last time I was walking by, there was a dude working, though. There's something about hot girls handling elongated pieces of meat. Ah well.
For serious sausage lovers, skip this spot and go directly to Uli's Famous Sausage, also in the Market. Uli's is hard to find but the locals can point it out for you.
It's nice to find a place that has more than just the regular sausages. Here, you can find things like chicken sausage with sundried tomato for example. They also have sides that aren't chips (potato chips not french fries) like Potato Salad, and Cole Slaw. So I came here in my search for the perfect hot dog stand and was happy. I got myself a chicken with pesto sausage, and a side of potato salad, and a fountain drink. Mmmmm mmmm. The two problems though...
The casing on the sausage was too tough (and the sausage was actually smaller than the bun) and so I had to eat it with a fork and knife, and then the bun separate. Not the end of the world, but kind of purpose defeating. The other thing was it's expensive. My order came to $8.01 and that's pretty expensive, all things considered. AND that was considered a combo price. At least bump the price down a penny, because I had no change, and left with .99 in my pocket. Ugh. Still, not a bad place, just one I won't be coming to a lot... Unless they drop the prices.
It's not your ordinary hot dog stand. That's fer sure!
They have everything from Chicken to Kosher to Vegetarian. The bun is a hoagie roll with cornmeal floured on. Then, the sauerkraut is the best anyone around would ever taste.
You may think it's pricey, but it's not. It's the size of two hot dogs. Which makes it perfect for an adult lunch. And you get to add all the condiments you want; dill relish, sweet relish, onions, yellow mustard, whole mustard, ketchup and/or barbecue sauce.
And if you want more vegetables, there have a few side items that include cole slaw.
For an epicure experience, gourmet hot dogs are delightful. Sure!
Hot Dogs in all varieties can be found here at this fabulous stand within Pike's Place and is a dream come true for the average hot dog lover. This place almost reminds me of a Subway, where there are different variations of sandwiches combined with sides to make a hearty meal. The only difference is these dogs are more expensive and not all of them are equally plump. Service can be suspect at times, especially during the weekend when the lines are all the way out to the Pacific.
The first time I had this hot dog (regular) I figured it to be no better than a ballpark frank, but my second time I went for the polish dog and was treated to a Costco like sized dog that was a meal in itself. Was it worth the $6.95? I'll attempt to justify it as long as I can justify paying the same price for a small cup of joe from the original Starbucks a few stores down.
Kayyyy it's expensive for hotdogs. That's pretty much it. They were good yeah...but I don't ever want to spend $4 for a plain hot dog ever again.. I nearly shot myself in the foot when I realized how much I'd spent on a hot dog. But..it was good I'll give them that.
The place to grab "gourmet" dogs in Seattle. Looking for a casual lunch date? Head down to Taxi Dogs and grab a salmon dog and take a stroll through Pike Place Market or sit across the street overlooking the Puget Sound. Not as entertaining in the rain so save this stop for a clear day.
The kielbasa was good & spicier than I've normally had it. I was very disappointed in the grilled onions because they leave it on the grill so by the time it reached our hot dog, they were all dry & chewy. The girl that works there is also apathetic... my pet peeve in the food service world.
Never again I got the worst case of food poisoning from eating here. Never never again.
