Other reviews highlight the great weekly happy hour specials and I can certainly attest to that. I believe the vast majority of non-seafood appetizers are $5-7, mixed drinks were half-off, and pizzas were $8 last Wednesday.
I started off with the artichoke and goat cheese dip, while the menu does specify it comes with marinara sauce and toast points I didn't expect there to be so much marinara sauce. The toast points were more like a Texas toast style garlic bread versus points as well. The dip was fine but I wasn't expecting something so heavy and buttery out of an artichoke based dip.
I ordered a lemon drop martini that was just entirely too strong, an entire shot and a half of simple syrup couldn't redeem this drink. The waitress was gracious enough to take it off the bill, but she did comment that the menu specifies what's it in it... I know what's in a lemon drop I order it all the time I've just never had one quite like that... Judging by the 1 maybe 2 other cocktails (one being an old fashioned) listed I'd say cocktails aren't this places thing, which pretty much eliminates my urge to ever drink here.
The blackened salmon entree was considerably better than my previous items. Rice was cooked well, vegetables were crisp and fresh. There was a pinch of too salt over everything but that was easily balanced out by adding more pepper.
Good value for certain items, but I don't see myself returning.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Justyn W.San Francisco, CA394780Sep 3, 2014
Visiting Baltimore for a few days so a friend of mine decided to bring me here for dinner.
Located in the Canton area kind of hidden in a nice little square of shops and restaurants. We walked in and the bartender immediately got my attention when she told me "You've got 3 minutes to before half off drinks are over what do you want?" I ordered two and they weren't bad, but for half off on a Wednesday I wasn't too worried to be honest. That's certainly a worthy happy hour deal if I've ever seen one.
The place was pretty empty but the food was fulfilling. I was starving so I ordered the Duck Confit pizza as well as the Roast Beef Grinder. Destroyed them both. The crust on the pizza was especially delicious. They were both very solid compared to what I was expecting, but seemed like items that you would only want to eat while still hot (which wasn't a problem for me. I have to say I was pleasantly pleased by the visit here and the service was good as well.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 8, 2015
This place is solid.
Tavern on the Square is a small tavern on Canton square that is more or less a bar and restaurant hybrid. Definitely on the older side, but not noticeably unclean. I can see this place getting busy on game nights. This place isn't exactly fancy, but it probably doesn't have to be - this is Baltimore.
The brunch I had here was excellent. I had the steak and eggs, and both were absolutely perfect. The steak was to die for - perfectly seasoned. The potatoes were a bit basic, but that's not surprising given that they are potatoes. The bottomless mimosas and sangria were super sweet and tasty, but didn't seem to be lacking in the alcohol department.
All in all, good stuff.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 14, 2014
Came here for dinner on a weeknight with my husband and a friend. We shared a pitcher of red sangria, which was the first surprise - it was huge, like a beer pitcher, not your normal carafes. The sangria tasted good and had chunks of apples
I was a little disappointed by the selection on the menu. I felt like there was a good selection of sandwiches and pizzas, but I wanted something more for dinner. I ordered the spicy shrimp penne. The shrimp was tender and the pasta cooked well, all mixed in with a spicy tomato sauce. Nothing special, but it was good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 25, 2013
I don't love the atmosphere here. I wanted to sit outside during happy hour, but all the tables were taken so we sat inside by the window and ordered drinks and an app
FYI, Specials for Friday happy hour: 25% off all food, 50% off all drinks.
After eating our app (crab dip, it was mediocre at best) we asked the hostess that if a table opens up outside we would like to move out there for more drinks and to hang out.... she told us that in order to sit outside you have to order food...?... Even though we DID order food and just ate it inside that did not count. We had to order something else outside.
No other restaurant on the square.... or in Baltimore that I know of.... has this kind of "rule".
In the end, no one moved, we never ate outside. But I was still willing to stay because it was 50% off all drinks... and the good beer included (well not the really good beer that was originally priced $8 or above).Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emily T.Baltimore, MD2205140May 21, 2016
We love tavern so much!! We come for the Cayenne Nut Chicken Sandwich about once a week, I hope they never take it off the menu because it's literally the best chicken sandwich in Baltimore. If you haven't tried it, you need to! We also love the friendly bartenders, Nancy is the best!
We are big fans of their weekly trivia and family feud nights. Change up the usual happy hour w some fun games!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kimberly S.Baltimore, MD154925May 20, 2016
Fresh, delicious handcrafted burgers, great atmosphere and exceptional service! My husband and I had a great time having dinner at Tavern on the Square, and definitely would come back!

Every breakfast comes with "old bay hash browns" more like red potatoes with a sprinkle of old bay. Would not recommend going here for brunch. The sandwich had way too much egg and not enough bacon and I was disappointed in the "old bay hash browns." If you are looking to drink they offered bottomless for $9.99 which I thought was a great deal, but after 6 I didn't feel a thing so not sure how much alcohol was in there. Fun atmosphere, but definitely more of a happy hour location.

I was looking for a place to host a little dinner party (table of 15 people) and I decided to give tavern on the square a shot because I love their food and atmosphere. I talked to Don (the manager of this restaurant) and he was extremely helpful setting up our rez. The table was ready when we arrived and we had Julia as our server. She was incredible- extremely friendly and quick to get everyone's drinks even when people strolled in after we had already sat. She got everyone's orders perfect and the food came out quick and tasty. I crushed some fish tacos and had a bit of my friends wild boar burito (so good!) They also had live music the whole time we were there. It was a really outstanding experience. I highly suggest this place for any size group.

When you walk in during dining hours you're greeted by a pleasant hostess and they usually have a few tables free (I've never made a reservation here). Their happy hour prices are killer and I love the low tab I always leave here with. The waitresses are almost always friendly and chatty (Unless they're super busy... which is understandable that their personalities don't shine as much in those scenarios) The food always comes out hot and timely (15-20 minutes depending on what we order). This place is an awesome spot to get great deals and good tasting food. You can also sit on the Patio on a nice day and people watch the Canton Square. They have begun doing trivia and live music which should add a nice touch to this already great restaurant.

One of my favorites on the square!
Good good, good drinks, and great people.
This is my usual stop for a work happy hour if I am looking for a bar stool.
Great happy hour, and good selection of beers.
I like their chicken sandwhich and appetizers.
They also host larger groups if you call ahead!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
