I've only ventured in here a handful of times, but have always enjoyed myself.
It has a somewhat grungy feel.
Funny name, I guess... last time I was in town, Stuck Up Ex Friend refused to go in because she thought it was an ice cream shop... man, was she far from the truth!
Great drink prices, decent music venue... you might even be lucky like me and catch a glimpse of a stark naked Asian drummer!
Tasty World is good, but OMG can this place get packed! I was there this weekend for Athfest, seeing a band here that was recommended. Small but decent size stage on the main floor (there's bar and stage upstairs too).. but none the less, it's a cool bar.
However, I'm still laughing at a comment someone made to one of my friends, asking them to quit talking so they could hear the music.. Tasty World is an insanely loud crowded Athens "bar"! I didn't realize no talking was permitted... funny.
After a point though, there really were too many people here - so we ventured to the next spot.

There is just something about this place. One of my favorite places to catch live shows, and they seem to have a knack at booking some of my favorite bands.... causing me to drive from Charleston to Athens (which really does not take much arm-twisting -- Athens is a *great* town!)
Tasty World used to be the main contributor to my hearing loss. From the loud music to the strong, reasonably priced alcohol and, consequently. drunken fans, everything about Tasty World embodied the music the venue promoted.
Unfortuntely, it all came down to the bottom line. To make money, TW converted to a less music friendly venue. Occasionally they'll host a good bad and relive the glory days, but they're fading fast.
Tasty World is a great place to catch live shows, but they really pack people in here. I saw the Whigs here a few years ago before they got really big, and I could hardly move.
tasty world is known for their shows--bands and 'performance artists'. granted, sometimes the best place to listen to a tasty world show is in the parking lot behind the building.
(it gets loud. very loud. there is usually a stock of ear plugs for purchase--including a gum ball machine dispenser.)
