Best value, service, taste and healthiest ingredients in Woodbridge, VA.
The owner and his well chosen staff pay great attention to detail.
I have two fickle teenage daughters who've never tired of dining at Taste of Tandoor!
I've found the quality of the service and food to be consistently well above average!
Parking is another plus at this restaurant.
I've always found them to be open on what Prince William County School System categorizes as a snow day!1 Previous Review:

Decent Indian food, limited selection the buffet, clean place.
really liked the Mango Lassi and the Chole :) -

Taste of Tandoor is a fair place to eat for lunch (when the price is lower). The buffet is consistent in the nan, the tandoor chicken, and the chicken tikka masala.
There are three chicken dishes on the buffet, no lamb dishes. Bummer.
WAAAAAAAAYYYY better than the other Indian restaurants in the area. -

This is a hidden gem. I've been going to this restaurant off and on for years and it just keeps getting better and better. It's elegant enough for a nice date (white table cloths), friendly enough for a family dinner and casual enough for a catch up lunch with a friend. You can also get a drink at the bar at the back of the restaurant during happy hour or later. A great, classy alternative to crowded sports bars.
The food is exceptional for the price--I've never had a bad meal there. At other Indian food buffets, sometimes tandoori chicken can be dry but I've never experienced that here. And the butter chicken is hands down the best I've had anywhere--and I've eaten at quite a few Indian restaurants all over the area, including Rasika in DC. Also don't miss the sweet lassi--really delicious.
The wait staff is very attentive and the owner has always been very friendly, visiting our table (and everyone else's) to say hello when he's there.
They've just done some cosmetic renovations that have really freshened up the place--very simple and elegant. The water element (small waterfall) in one corner is nice too. -

I have been her 4 times and every time the service & food is outstanding. You could easily miss this place located on a plain strip mall across the Potomac Mills mall, but it's a true find. The staff treated us amazingly & seated us right away. We always oder naan & samosas, both which passed our flavor criteria with flying colors. But that rice, Oh wow, that flavorful basmati rice is what kept me coming back over and over. Its aroma entices you in, tastes harmoniously with the paneer masala & rogan josh. They don't scrimp on the fenugreek either, it adds so much flavor to the masala. For dessert my automatic go-to is rice pudding which here they serves with raisins, perfect. Prices aren't bad either and you get seated right away.

Finally opted to try this place last night and got carry-out after picking up some groceries.
I called ahead and placed my order of the following:
Vegetable Samosas - Loved the pastry shell, I felt like the potato filling could've used just a tad more spices just to give it more flavor, but dipping it into both tamarind and cilantro chutney helped liven it up a bit.
Chicken Tikka Masala - The sauce came out darker than other versions I've seen, but didn't lack the butter flavor. They also gave quite a generous amount of chicken and sauce. I like how they ask what spice level you prefer. I asked for medium. Although I could taste the spices, I felt it still lacked any heat. But I suppose, this particular dish doesn't normally come spicy anyhow.
Garlic Naan - Huge piece of naan bread, def worth the upgrade at $2.50/ea. Lots of garlic pieces, very flavorful.
I thought the carry-out portions were pretty generous considering they normally gyp you when you order take-out at other places. Total came out under $20 so I say the portions matched the price.
Staff was friendly and very accommodating. Decor is bright and glittery. I would come back here again to try either the buffet or other sit-down dishes.Listed in: When Indian cravings hit...

My coworker introduced me to this place since she eats here all the freakin' time. In fact, this place became my first Indian food experience and maybe I'm sentimental, but I haven't been able to find much elsewhere to top it.
I usually get the chicken tikka, baingran bharta, and the aloo mattar. If I ever need a death row meal, that's what it would be. Throw in some pakora and we're good. I'll go meet my maker happily.
I've never had the carry out, but I've had both the regular menu as well as the buffet. I have to say that the buffet is rather weak compared to ordering off the regular menu. If possible, I'd avoid the buffet even though it is cheaper - it's just not worth it.
Service is good to above average. I wouldn't say I've ever had superb service, but I've never had any complaints.
Decor is nice, but dark. It's okay - I'm there for food, not to be wowed. I find the colors somewhat soothing actually. -

My favorite place to go to in Woodbridge for Indian.
It's in a strip mall, but don't let that fool you. It's even more attentive than most stand-alone restaurants in the area. The staff, after only going there two or three times, already knew me and the boyfriend by sight, and knew our favorites.
My favorite: Lamb Gosht
SO's favorite: Chicken Daniya
The portions are good, and their lunchtime buffet is awesome. Food is regularly swapped out, and there's a carry-out option as well. -

Woodbridge, VA
We order 2 entrees To-Go, and when we got home we had one container of rice which had at most 1 1/4 cups in the container of rice total and then there were 2 containers: one with lamb, one with chicken. Why did my husbands container have 4 small pieces of lamb? My chicken was about the same, the flavors were good but it was a bit disappointing for the cost (not cheap). The naan was good and somehow they convinced me to order Kashmir Naan (naan with coconut shreds inside and raisins) it was good.
It's good food, but I really think for the price the portions are very small and I have to wonder if they would have given us more meat and less sauce had we ate in the restaurant. -

The restaurant itself is in a strip mall, but don't let that fool ya. It is very cozy inside and trust me, it ain't cheap! lol
The indian cuisine is spot on. Love the samosas/naan/butter chicken. The only thing I don't like (and I have found this with most indian restaurants) is how expensive it is for what you get. I order a protein dish, but I get no veggies. I have to order a $13 veggie entree to get a balanced meal?? That is crazy to me. Even if you were to share the dishes, they don't really give you very much. Ugh. So other than the expense/a la carte, the food in general is on point. -

I'm a food connoisseur from NYC so I've def had my share of good food. After an evening shopping at Potomac Mills, I stumbled into this place and was fully satisfied! The food was delicious and the service was very welcoming and wonderful.
We had the chicken tikka masala and shrimp saag, along with a side of garlic naan, all items I would recommend. The food was very tasteful, light and delightful.
I'm def coming back here again! -

Excellent, delicious, quality Indian food at reasonable prices. Went here for the first time recently (for dinner) after passing it hundreds of times (it's very close to my house) and my only regret is that I did not get in sooner! I will be eating here every chance I get.

Finally got to try this place for lunch buffet this past weekend. My first impression upon entering was how dark it was inside. The dim lit chandalier lighting on the ceiling and walls and the lack of windows made it like eating in a closet. I guess they didn't want me to see how outdated their decor since it was probably last updated in 1975. But whatever, I was there to eat!
Service was quick and friendly. We got to pick our seat and promply got our glasses filled with ICE cold water then hit the buffet table. There were ten or so silver domes spread out with hand written signage indicating what morsel laid within.
My round 1 consisted of Chicken Tandoori, butter chicken, chicken curry, vegetable pakora and cilantro chutney. I didn't see any nan at the buffet queue but there was a small basket of it sitting at my table when I came back (YAY SERVICE!).
The chicken tandoori was good but not great. It was tender but the flavor was mild. They mostly had what looked like thigh pieces and I prefer legs. May just have been that everyone else there thought the same and not Tandoor's fault.
Both the chicken curry and butter chicken were watery. Like the Tandoori I thought these dishes also tasted mild. Not only that but they were watery and the chicken was tough and not so tender. A note on the butter chicken that so many here rave about: I picked up on a strong tomato flavor which I know is used in some versions of chicken curries. I don't think I've ever had it in butter chicken before. And when my brother likend it to a sweet flavor, i could only guesstimate that perhaps their "secret ingredient" could be ketchup. I don't know of course if that is a fact but it certainly tasted like it.
The vegetable was really good. It had a great crunchy texture and were a generous size. This was the one thing that really stood out to me as Tandoor's pièce de résistance. The preculiar thing though was that I couldn't tell what the vegetable was HA! But regardless it was great. I added some the the mint/cilantro chutney which also was really good.
Now the nan...two words: Thin and Flakey :( What a disspointment. It was so thin that it had more crunch to it than anything else.
On my round 2 the only thing I added was a little of their basmati rice which I will just say upfront was nothing special and a little spinach paneer. I would be willing to be the farm that the spinach was canned. It didn't taste fresh at all.
Overall I was quite dissapointed with Taste of Tandoor. I really wanted to like it. I wanted a new go to place in Woodbridge. Sadly though, it did not deliver in terms of quality and taste. I may give it another shot sometime. At $10 a person for buffet it was a great deal. But don't expect a great meal that will keep you coming back for more.
**/5 Meh. I've had MUCH better! -

Fantastic food! And a buffet! And a reasonable price! NICE!!!
Tandoor has an incredibly good, intimate buffet. They had rice, chicken tikka (very excellent, best ever!), saag (excellent), butter chicken (excellent), vegetables (very good), black eyed peas (good), chicken curry (ok), and homemade naan (very good). Very nice service, though a bit hard to understand. A bit small for a buffet, but the incredible quality is well worth it. Better to have a few amazing choices than lots of mediocre. -

We went to dinner here on a Friday night. The food was average Indian food... a little too tomato sauce filled. The atmosphere was pretty uncomfortable. The restaurant was dead silent and the waiters were whispering. My husband and I were too uncomfortable to speak loud so we also ended up whispering through out our dinner.

Let me start off by saying I have never thought of myself as a fan of Indian cuisine. But I have to admit that my exposure to the various dishes of Indian cuisine have been quite limited. When a friend suggested we go to Taste of Tandoor, I felt a bit hesitant but was ready to try it with an open mind and a clean pallat.
The decor is simple with dim candle light and the entire room was filled with the aroma of curry. Being that I haven't had too much experience with Indian food, I let my friend do most of the ordering and gave me some suggestions. We got the garlin naan with yogurt sauce to start. I ordered the butter chicken.
The garlic naan was crisp and tasty and went great with the yogurt sauce. The strange thing was they charged extra for the yogurt sauce. This seemed odd to me as it's nothing more than a condiment.
The butter chicken came with a dish of basmati rice. The rice was a bit dry for my taste and I even had a few grains that were hard to bite. It was my first time eating butter chicken, so unfortunately I don't have anything to compare it to. All I know is, it was tasty and I could have easily had more. The waiter said it was a mild spicy but I didn't taste any spice at all. It had a buttery tomato taste and the chicken was tender and not dry.
For an adventure into Indian cuisine, it was an enjoyable experience. I take this as a stepping stone to trying different things. I gave Taste of Tandoor four stars for the flavor of the butter chicken, the excellent garlic naan and reasonable prices. They offer a lunch buffet and I may come back to try it some day. -

A lovely Indian place. I'm a huge fan of Indian food, so I was looking forward to trying out a new place.
Taste of Tandoor looks somewhat sketchy from the outside. Their sign is broken, the curtains don't allow you to peek inside and it's in a mall-type area. But inside the atmosphere is relaxing and reminiscent of an upscale restaurant.
The food was quite good. Not amazing, but good, and they definitely listened to us when we asked for differing levels of spicy. -

Taste of Tandoor started my passion for indian food, and they continue to be the taste to which all others aspire too. Seriously Taste of T has a home cooked thing that makes you feel think did my secret Indian Gradnma make this.
I've tried a bunch of things on the menu, so I'll briefly review a few here.
Chicken Tikka Masala- my favorite version of this dish hands down. The fact that Taste of T has those flame roasted peppers in there make its the best version I had. Also Taste of T's doesn't have that sweetness that a lot of other versions have.
Aloo Gobi Masala- a very solid dish of cauliflower and potatoes, now cauliflower isn't something that normally isn't in my diet, but this is a dish that I devour.
Aloo Mattar-another solid vegetarian dish, peas and potatoes basic, simple, and most importantly delicous!
Chicken Dhaniya- this dish says HOT!!! on the menu, but it doesn't seem that much hotter then any of the other dishes on the menu. It's got really nice spicy flavor with a lemony undertone, probably a result of the massive amount of cilantro they use. This one is something if your looking to try something new on the menu I highly recommend.
Vindaloo- Vindaloos are my favorite of the indian "curries," and this one is solid. The heat has a vinegary flavor that I found matches well with the potatoes.
Naan- good crispy, solid naan.
All in all, I love Taste of T and you should too. One suggestion stay away from the buffet, it's small and doesn't have many options. That and it really misrepresents the flavor of Taste of T. -

Triangle, VA
After spending a couple of hours on Yelp, reading reviews of local restaurants, I decided on Taste of Tandoor. As others have mentioned, don't be put off by its location in a small strip-mall
With it's subdued lighting, and decor, crisp white linens and comfortable seating, I feel this place would work as well for a romantic dinner, as it would for an after-work get together, and in our case, a family dinner.
It was a slow evening, there were two servers. At other restaurants, when I've gone during a slow period, the service has been terrible, the servers were in the back talking, or something! This was not the case. These gentleman stayed in sight, watching, and waiting to be of assistance. The only time they were not in view was when they went to get the food!
For appetizers, we ordered the Aloo Tikka, which was fried potato patties, with chickpeas, cilantro, tamarind chutney, and yogurt. We also got the assorted platter. We all shared all of it, and everyone agreed everything was delicious. A great start to a fabulous dining experience.
Since none of us had been here before, we all ordered something different, and did a sampling! We had lamb vindaloo, lamb korma, gosht marsala, I added a couple of orders of the naan bread, as recommended, and was so glad I did. It was great for sopping up the delicious sauces, which were too good to waste. Everything we ordered was fresh, hot, delicious, and served in a timely manner.
On to dessert. I won't lie, it's my favorite thing to make, and to eat. It's where disappoint can happen in Asian restaurants. It tends to be a sad finally. Not this time! The Mango Kulfi, (Indian ice-cream,) was a little hard, but flavorful, and creamy. The Kheer (rice pudding) was some of the best I ever tried. The only thing that could be considered a low-point, was my choice of dessert. The Ras Malai was ok
The only thing that could make it better would be to have vegetable side dishes.
Taste of Tandoor has become a family favorite. We will definitely be going back. -

I hate to counter the good reviews of this place, but I will. First off, the service was lacking. The server decided it was more important to go through all of his ringer sounds on his phone before taking care of the guests. This resulted in not getting a refill of my water at all. Food wise, the flavors just weren't there. Hot was not hot. I have a feeling I could have done "Indian hot" easily. I doubt I will return.

They offer their dishes in mild, medium, hot, and Indian Hot. I inquired about how hot "Indian Hot" was and the waiter told me "too hot." I was sold.
LOVE IT!
P.S. - Hot is plenty hot for non-indians. The waiter does not lie. -
Review from Katie F.

I am a novice at Indian food, so this review is based on general food quality, and not Indian food quality.
Since i am a novice, I went for the all you can eat lunch buffet, at $8.95. Now I am normally not a buffet person (germs ew!), but since I am pretty green at Indian food, I thought this would be the best way to try a variety of dishes out.
My dining partner was very intrigued that the chef could prepare things, mild, medium, hot of INDIAN HOT according to the menu, and asked out waiter if there were any INDIAN HOT items on the buffet. The waiter said there were not, but there was a hot sauce at the end of the buffet one could use to spice things up.
The buffet consisted of the following items:
-Bastamti Rice :)
-Tandori Chicken :)
-Butter Chicken :)
-Cumin Seasoned Potatoes :)
-Lentils
-and some desert I didn't try
All pretty basic dishes, and nothing special. Part of me wishes I had ordered a lamb dish off the regular menu.
Also, before I went I checked out their menu online and was intrigued by a drink called a lassi, after a quick Wikpedia search, I found out that this was a yogurt based beverage--and was apt to try it. So my friend and I decide to get the Mango Lassi and try it together. It came in a very romantic pina colata type glass with two straws--aw. Haha. But I think both my friend and I were underwhelmed by this beverage--perhaps it is because yogurt is not a central part of our diet like the rest of the world (for more on this issue check out the recent book titled MILK--great food read).
Anyway, I have had enough naan in my life to know this was blah.
Can someone on yelp please guide me by the hand to a good Indian food adventure?Listed in: My Neighborhood

Don't be fooled that this wonderful restaurant is in a strip mall. This is authentic Indian and we have hooked more than 20 of our friends on this awesome restaurant.
Chicken Korma is tender and the sauce is to die for. Try the Chicken Tikka, but beware, if you take it to go, it might not make it home. It makes the car smell so good you want to eat it on the way.
Addictive food, wonderful service, no waiting and good prices. Worth the trip to Woodbridge every time. -
Review from Jade T.
Shopping at Potomac Mills before Xmas sounds like a death wish, so one must be prepared. We decided to fuel up at Taste of Tandoor a couple blocks away from this NoVA shopping mecca.
I did some reconnaissance work to find a vegetarian-friendly restaurant amongst the Carrabas, Don Pablo's, Fuddrucker's, and Old Country Buffets of Woodbridge. Finding a non-chain, vegetarian meal in the area is like trying to find a fair trade product in Wal-mart.
The restaurant doesn't give a strong impression from the outside nestled in an anonymous strip mall behind Popeye's. Our expectations were heightened when we stepped in. There was a beautiful water fountain in the far left corner, Indian paintings placed inside window-like panels, chandeliers hung from the ceiling, and the glittering borders followed along the walls of the restaurant. Taste of Tandoor was a small step up from other Indian restaurants.
The lunch buffet was available, but the only vegetarian dishes were the Lentil Daal, Aloo Mattar, and Palak Paneer. We opted for Chana Masala (Curtis's favorite) and Shari Paneer: "A vegetarian delight - Chunks of fresh homemade cottage cheese cooked in tomato-based sauce with bell peppers, fenugreek and a delicious blend of Chef's secret spices."
We were the first customers so service was prompt, yet friendly. Because we ordered a la carte, our dishes took about 10 minutes to arrive. The Chana Masala was very flavorful and delicious. The Shari was slightly sweet, but since I ordered the dish medium spicy, the extra spices might've minimalized some of the sweetness. The dish had a great amount of paneer (not just four chunks).
Curtis and I DEVOURED the two dishes and soaked the remaining curry sauce with naan. It's a very good sign if I finish an entire meal with no leftovers!
We have no complaints about this place. The prices are reasonable, and the food was great. What's not to like about Taste of Tandoor? -

My family really likes the food here. We eat out way too often and two of us don't care for Indian food but we will eat it here. The butter chicken is really good and the bread is tasty as well. We've traveled all over and found this to be one of the tastiest renditions of Indian food.
The owners are really nice and have great service. Linen napkins and a very cozy atmosphere. -

Taste of Tandoori has excellent food and friendly, fast service. I have been eating here for several years now and have never been let down. My favorite dishes here include their butter chicken, chicken korma and chicken dhanyia (which is a dish I have never had elsewhere). I am also a fan of the shahi paneer which my daughter get every time we go.
While there are several good Indian restaurants in the metro area I think Taste of Tandoor is one of the most consistent in terms of quality and value for the dollar. -

This was my first experience with Indian food. The food is very good. I really like the Tandoori Chicken along with the side dishes. This is the only place that I've had the roti bread and I'm sad that the local Denver places don't serve it on the buffet.
The owner is extremely friendly and welcomes most folk when they arrive. The wait staff are also very friendly.
We like the ambiance of the place and went there fairly often when we lived in Dale City. When we visit family in the area, it's one of the places we make sure we drop by for a meal. -

I can only comment on the lunch buffet, since it's what I had.
The restaurant looks pretty shabby on the outside, but on the insides it's large, very clean and well decorated.
The buffet was very small. It had Chicken Tandoori and Butter Chicken as the only two meats. Aside from that, I think there were only 3 other items on the buffet.
Both chicken dishes were tasty, but I would have given it 5 stars if there was more variety. I will say the Butter Chiccken tasted very good.
The waiter gets bonus points for constantly refilling my water without me asking for it.
It's a nice place, and I wouldn't mind going back for a dinner. -

Taste of Tandoor is one of those restaurants you would never choose on looks alone. Tucked behind a Popeye's Chicken in a Woodbridge strip mall, this place is a real gem!
The decor is elegant and low-key, which can make for a nice quiet dinner with someone special. The clientele is varied and families and couples can find harmony within its walls.
The service is attentive and a true team effort, with 2-3 servers working together. The menu at Taste of Tandoor includes a wide variety of seafood, chicken, vegetarian, and lamb specialties. My husband and I favor the butter chicken, lamb korma, and chicken korma. All are fragrant and full of flavor. The garlic naan and samosas are also a nice addition to any meal. Lastly, the mango lassi (yogurt drink) is one of the best we've had while living in DC. All items are fairly priced and will fill you, no doubt!
Bottom line: The atmosphere, service, food, and pricing come together to make a strip mall restaurant a very special find! Enjoy :)Listed in: Top Restaurants

I will be the 1st to admit...many people do NOT go to Woodbridge, strip malls to find great Indian food. So I was a bit skeptical at 1st of stopping on our way home from Fredericksburg (Which is a great town to walk around - a cheaper, cooler - Old Town -- as an aside!)
But I am stoked we did, b/c it really was great great Indian food. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a 8 month old baby and no one seemed to mind his sometimes noises. Decor was authentic looking and Naan bread was warm, and delicious. Total for 2 dinner entrees and some naan, (No buffet option at dinner) was a very wallet friendly $30...including a $5 tip)
Again, somewhat unsure at 1st b/c of location in Woodbridge out by Potomac Mills mall (Also a good spot for shoppers to consider for deals) - but it really was good atuff. My Chicken Tikka was off the map with flavor and cooked perfectly. The rice also had a great taste and was light nd cooker to the T. If you have ever had bad, wet rice at an Indian or Paki place you know what I mean.
So - lesson is look beyond the cover of a book to see what it has to offer, b/c this Indian food gets tops marks. Make a day of the mall and stores, and eat some good food in between! -

ABSOLUTELY wonderful! It is consistently the same service. Great price for buffets, delicious foods, and I have NEVER gotten bad service.
The manager will come and chit chat with you, the waiters, cater the whole place so if you need something you do not wait for "your" waiter.
Do not let how empty the place always is fool you.. this was a gem find in Woodbridge. I definitely recommend trying the lunch buffet. -

This place is waaaaaaaaaaaay out in the burbs (for me) but on this evening I ventured out beyond the limits of taxi and metro service to check out an antique store and my friend's spanking new condo. ToT is in a nondescript strip mall just outside of Potomac Mills proper, where the land is studded with generic big box stores, endless parking and asphalt, and luckily, an IHOP.
The interior walls are pink but they've done a great job with the chandeliers and dim lighting; it's very sweet and romantic. What's not so romantic is the head waiter who's so bored in an empty restaurant that he'll stand and make idle conversation while you're trying to have dinner. Call me unfriendly. But overall, the meal was OK. The buffet lunch might be steal, and enough to get your Indian fix without having to drive to Alexandria or dear god, into the City. But pass on the mango lassi (powdered mango mix, lots of sugar), pass on the assorted appetizers (ok but probably retained all their form and firmness, having come out of a freezer). The entrees surprisingly were better, but not enough to return.
I'm all for the mom and pop shops, but you still have to offer really great mom and pop meals. -

Had the Sunday buffet. Tandoori chicken was tasty but a bit dry. Spinach with corn was perfectly spiced. Daal was fairly bland. Overall it is decent Indian food at a reasonable price. Nothing outstanding, but nothing bad either. I plan to try it again, but will order off the menu to see if they do better with classic main dishes.
6/27/07, update.
Had the mid-week lunch buffet and the food was excellent! Tiki chicken was perfect, Butter chicken was perfect. Buffet had a small selection of vegetarian items - only thing that I didn't really like was the okra - but then I don't normally like okra.
Only negative was the service was a bit slower paced than I would have liked. Not horrid, but for lunch I like the pace to move more promptly. I'm bumping this place up to 4 stars from my original 3 due to the good job they did with the main chicken dishes. -

Lake Ridge, VA
Taste of Tandoor is part of the circuit of restaurants that my coworkers and I frequent, so I have been there several times. I usually eat the buffet, partially since I have found that the lunch special portions are ridiculously small and usually just a container of sauce with only a few veggies or pieces of meat. The quality of the food is OK, but it is nothing special, and you can get the same (better?) quality off the hot bar at Whole Foods (of course, there isn't a WF anywhere near Woodbridge, but that is another story).
The buffet, which is reasonable priced, usually has about eight items plus salad and naan bread. The food quality/price is good enough that I go back there about once a month or so; but this is mainly for lack of a better Indian place near my office. Really, the food just lacks that layering, blending and unfolding of spices and flavors that is the hallmark of quality Indian food.
Service is generally good and the place is clean with decent atmosphere for a strip mall location; no complaint there. If you're in Woodbridge/ Lake Ridge/ Dale City and are dying for some Indian food, this will do the trick. If you're looking for an amazing Indian cuisine experience than you need to head a few miles north to My Karma in Lorton.
