The best Indian Food in Yuba City. The best I've had in Butte, Sutter, and Yuba Counties. I love the All You Can Eat Lunch Buffet which usually features Butter Chicken, Curry Chicken, Naan, Tandoori Chicken, Vegetarian Dishes, and more. The other day they served Curry Lamb. The food is fresh and delicious. You can also order from a menu.
Lunch Buffet & Soft Drink will cost around $12.00
My boyfriend and I recently ate here and were thoroughly dissapointed. I'm not sure if the place changed owners, but they were having some sort of grand opening. The service was poor and they forgot my chai tea, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to their new opening.
The food, which yes it was cheap, was not very good. The Tikki masala had onions and peppers in it, which I haven't seen before and unfortunately it was not impressive. Their mango lasse was also quickly thrown together and just tasted like tart yogurt.
However, I can't speak for their other food. If you are looking for a quick, cheap lunch it's a decent place, but the food is definitely not great Indian food.
The review below was written prior to restaurant remodel and subsequent reopening on Jan 2010. No fresh food is served anymore and as soon as you enter the place you are confronted with luke-warm ready made Indian gruel. If you were craving butter chicken and they didn't happen to have it ready, then you're out of luck. Even their naan is a cheaper form of it's once superior self. I have to say that the place that was once my favorite restaurant in town is now just the third best local Indian joint. Please switch back.... I'll pay double what you are charging for the current muck.

Former 5 Star Review
Consistently terrific indian food for bargain prices compared to most places these days. My favorite is aloo ghobi and chicken jal frazie. Chicken curry is delicious too. The staff is great at adjusting the heat level depending to your own tastes as well. I love it hot, but many of my friends tend to be more on the mild side. When our food comes, the table is entirely quiet due to all the stuffing immediately going on. Oh, and do yourself a favor and get some of the garlic naan as well.
I write this review with a heavy heart, this used to be my favorite Indian restaurant, in fact, I used to drive down from Chico about once a month just for the tasty dishes.
Sadly, everything has changed since their grand opening, the food that you could once order as mild or spicy/hot as you liked is now dished out as bland, uninspired warming tray fare. When Taste of India tried to Americanize their menu they killed off the true essence of the food itself, the very reason I went in the first place. Please go back to the way you were, I will eagerly await a return to a better time and a better menu.
The only better Indian food I have ever had was cooked by my Indian friends mother.
Pure and simple amazing Indian food.
I literally have painful cravings for Taste of India.
If I don't leave there having a hard time breathing because my stomach is so full that it's pressing up against my lungs, then something is terribly wrong.
The lunch buffet. Holy crap. All you can eat. Hell, if it was just all you can eat naan for 9 bucks I would be happy. They have a huge spread. Chicken tikka, lamb curry, papadom, naan, rice, desserts.... everything! I am not too good with the names of everything, but I am good at eating it. They also have a variety of chutneys and raita and pickled mango which is REALLY good mixed together and globbed atop a nice warm naan.
My favorite naan is chicken and they certainly deserve the 5 stars on this one. The mango lassi is also pretty good. It's filling though, so maybe if you didn't fill up on chicken tikka masala or lamb curry then you should get it.
The only downside is the service is kind of iffy, usually pretty slow but I don't really care. I will be a lifetime patron of this establishment and right now I am starting to get a craving. I don't care if it's 9:20 in the morning!!!
Great lunch buffet - lots of vegetarian options. I thought the price was cheap but then i'm normally eating in Sacramento.
As i'm writing this i'm trying to think of an excuse to go back to Yuba City just so i can eat here again.
Yum! I think this is the BEST Indian food I have had in California. Yuba City, of all places, has one of, if not the largest Sikh communities in the United States, so I knew I could find great Indian food. This came on a recommedation from a long time Yuba City resident. What can I say except the naan was incredible, the dal was excellent, the kabob wonderful, the samosa tasty. I didn't try the sweets because I didn't have room, but they have a "bakery" so I assumed they were made there.
Indian food is heavenly and I have craved it since I came back from India. Ahh, the craving was satisfied today.
As I bounce back and forth, often, between Sac and Chico, Taste of India has become a regular stop on the way home. I'll call for take out when I'm @ 10 minutes out, south on 99 and it'll be ready for me to quickly swoop in and bring home an amazing dinner.
All you need to know is "Butter Chicken"...This stuff is "last-meal-on-earth-worthy" and the Taste of India does better than any place I've been. Get it with a side of naan and you're ready to die.
Unfailingly good. Love their chicken tikka masala (what can I do?) and their naan. I am so glad to see them getting the love here on yelp.
Pros:
-great food
-all-you-can-eat lunch buffet
-nice people and owners
-cool bar next door
Cons:
-must have changed owners or something because tables are different (looks more like a lunch place now)
-not exactly cheap (especially for yuba city)
Love the Butter Chicken, their Naan is perfect, their buffet is very tasty and has a variety of choices. They could use another waitress since they always seem to be busy. The tap water tastes awkward.
I've only been here for dinner so I can't comment on the lunch buffet.
My wife loves the butter chicken. I've tried the kabobs and a few veggie dishes and they are always delicious. They offer curries at different spiciness (hot) levels so you can get mild curries there. It seems that butter chicken is always their special of the day but I don't mind. There meals are reasonably prices and are tasty.
The only downside would be it's location and decor. Little outdated and it's next to a dollar tree. It also has a bar attached to it. Don't let that stop you from trying this place.
I've always loved Taste of India. They've remodeled and expanded recently and it seems they opened a nightclub next door too, but the food is still good. Looks like maybe they have new ownership? They didn't seem particularly friendly, but who cares, just bring me some more aloo saag!
