Tarpon Bend has long been a staple of the bar scene in the Himmarshee section of Riverwalk area. In this regards, it is what it is - another place to place to drink in the town also known as Fort Liquordale.

Yesterday, that changed a little bit for me. I stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. I enjoyed the Asia Tuna Burger - a seared yellowfin tuna patty with wasabi mayo, caramelized onion and pickled ginger. It was far better than I expected; however, some aspects did disappoint. For example, they asked me how I wanted the tuna cooked - rare was my answer. If it was rare, I sure couldn't tell; it looked something like a tuna salad patty, an admittedly tasty one. Here I would have preferred an actual seared piece of fish, like that mentioned in the menu. The pickled ginger did not differ in any way that found at your standard sushi restaurant. With that said, the burger was still surprisingly good. My wife enjoyed Baja Mahi tacos. They were zesty and fresh, from my sampling. The guacamole was tasty as were the accompanying french fries.

I debated giving the place 4 stars. I wish I could give it a 3.5 stars, as that's how I really feel about the place - I'm not necessarily a fan, but it's better than okay. After all, they had $2.50 pints of Sam Adams, something I had long forgotten after an extended stint in Manhattan. However, the service really lacked. Our server took entirely too long to take our order. we felt somewhat un-attended. I saw one lady walk in to find her server so she could pay her bill. Maybe if I had a couple of more pints, I would have swung over into 4 star category - maybe next time, as I think it at least deserves that much. Hey, i'm living in Fort Liquordale.

Chillin with a slew of up n coming Yelpers on Saturday afternoon...each of them diggin their plastic cup of root beer (included with their $5.95 all inclusive meal deal), losing their balloons, sulking under the table, you know.....just like us grown up Yelpers do when we get out together.

Love the high ceiling and cozy booths comfortably seating six.
Diggin the cold beer
Doris's Oysters looked great
Crab Burger too big but not super tasty....shoulda got the fries, the potato salad was too gloopy
Diggin another cold beer....
Thanking my lucky stars for the cool a/c though they have seats outside...wearing jeans in South Florida when the heat index is 105 is just WRONG.

Some nicely placed tv's.  Stage set up for the nightly fun and frolics.
Spotless restrooms.
Friendly efficient staff.
A place I've been to in the past, and a place I'll be back to when in the area but not make a special trip.

I moved to Florida not too long ago from up North. Big change. Miss the change of seasons. I like to walk everywhere. Here, you have to drive everywhere...and deal with never-use-a-signal-100mph-lane-changin'-I will- NEVER- let-you-in-no-matter-what-- road freaks. (Sorry, was that out loud?)

Where was I? Oh yeah. I was getting to it. Two for One Happy Hour - that's why I moved to Florida. I need them to quell the road rage and have a good excuse to take cabs. Where I'm from, you're lucky to get 1/2 for one, so I'm grateful. Which leads me (I know- finally) to Tarpon Bend. The home of the friendly two for one happy hour - Thurs-Sunday - and the snacks and apps that are--- ttt tasty, tasty . (Hit it, Fergie...)

I have not had a meal here, but I've sampled many an appetizer at the bar and they have all been great. So, go ahead, order up.

Ambiance- best on the block- casual bar- friendly peeps, nice mix of a crowd. The place is always hoppin' with regulars and wannabe regulars. The outdoor seating area is ample. There is an upstairs area as well- and the place fills up on weekends when everyone comes out. to do the Himarshee bar-hop.

During my last visit with a pal, we enjoyed two drinks each and two yummy apps (Meatballs - excellent! Huge, soft, perfectly seasoned with some creamy ricotta on the side and a light tomato sauce) and the crab cake (very fresh and crabby - yum.) The bill was like $30. Pretty darn good.

I'm told their fish specials rarely disappoint- but I find the place to be better suited for small eats or a good hangover burger and beers on tap. Cosmos and Margaritas are good, too. Barkeeps are efficient, friendly and aim to please. Good place for lunch, too, btw.

So- while in the Himarshee area - hit Tarpon B. Take a cab. Or, if you must drive, please drink responsibly - and for the love of Pete- use your blinkers and try to keep it under 90 mph - Geez!

I've only been to the IMAX theatre twice. Once to see U2:3D which I highly recommend, and once to see The Dark Knight, which I also highly recommend. Both times, my friend and fellow Yelper Ana P. went to eat at Tarpon Bend, just a few blocks down the IMAX/Museum.

The prices vary but they're relatively decent for fresh, hot food. I've had a burger and a chicken sandwich and both were great; filling, but not greasy. You can choose to sit outside or have a seat inside where there are plenty of TV's on for you to watch sports games. They have a large selection of seafood if that's your thing and the staff is friendly, which is always a plus.

I've only been to Tarpon Bend during off hours on the weekday and it's a great, relaxed atmosphere during that time; not loud or crowded. I can't vouch for the reviewers that mention the night time being packed, but I can imagine it would be.

If you catch an IMAX film and come out hungry, definitely check out Tarpon Bend.

I'm not excited about going here. If it were not for a few friends that find their proximity so appealing, and family and friends that perform there, I'd never go back. I did admittedly enjoy their chili, and my margarita wasn't bad after it had been replaced with a fresh one sans salt.
I'm sure that most of the staff is probably friendly, but I found our server had no patience for our questions. I happen to appreciate knowing what to expect and it's not much when I go there. I will be back, but I won't like it!

I love this bar. I've never had the food but I've come after hours many times and the drinks are always fast and cheap. Good atmosphere. Not bad music. There is an upstairs and a downstairs and both are fun. The best part is that on fri and sat night there are usually a few places to sit. This is very exciting to me!

I can't really put my finger on why I prefer this bar to any of the other ones in the Las Olas/Riverfront area but I do! I feel like they are strict about IDs though, so I wouldn't try using a fake. I am of age and they have tried to take my real ID several times. The bouncers here think they are slick. However, most bouncers are on an ego trip anyways or they would have a real job =P

This is a pretty popular happy hour spot in the Fort Lauderdale Las Olas district.  The New Times says it's the best, so it has to be, right?

This is a great place to go if you're planning on meeting a bunch of wishy-washy people or a lot of complainers.  Tarpon Bend is a real Lowest Common Denominator kind of bar, with a little something for everyone:  Sports TVs, standing at the bar, outdoor standing room, outdoor patio furniture, food, beer, wine, alcohol, etc.

Word of warning: the ring game on the upper balcony is rigged; it is impossible to get the ring on the peg, due to too short of a rope.  I heard some girls joking that it was an emergency pull for the overhead sprinklers in case someone's cigarette catches the balcony on fire.  At least, I think they were joking.  GOD, I hope they were joking!

Tarpon Bend in Downtown Lauderdale...  What can I say?  I found it to be an interesting little scene.  The place was super packed and super hot, which never goes over well with me.  Both upstairs and downstairs I found it hard to move through.  My friend and I ended up walking outside and going around just to get back in to go upstairs.  The drinks are, thankfully, reasonably priced.  The music was good, it had everyone vibing!  Its a little different than my usual spots...  I happened to be visiting some friends Friday night in Lauderdale, and this was our meeting point.  Seems to be the meeting point for a lot of people.  Its a typical Ft. Lauderdale bar... Haven't tried the food...

The food was the best I had while in that area.
I enjoyed the raw Oyster Shots (in a tasty hot sauce!) and the entrees were pretty good. The boys liked the beer and the girls like the mojitos. There was a live guitarist that we could have done without.

This used to be our meet-up spot after happy hour at Hooters on Friday nights. I don't remember a lot about my times on Las Olas, but I think this is because I drank my fair share of liquor.  I do remember cabbing it home a lot or on the nights that I did not partake in the party I would have to go pick some friends up.  Good times were always had by all.

I like it here... l've only  been at "off" times - late afternoon, dinner on a weeknight - and so haven't really dealt with the crowds. Nice ambiance, and the fresh fish sandwich is delicious! (I've had it with different types of fish, and it's always been stellar.)

Great hip, casual, upscale dining at a reasonable price.  This is also reviewed as "Tarpon Bend" so you'll probably want to read those reviews, too, but Tarpon Bend Food & Tackle is the full name.

I lived in Florida for 7 years when oysters were $13 a bushel so we'd grill our own on the BBQ.  I can't remember what the restaurant price was but it wasn't $2 or $3 an oyster like now.  These guys have great, inexpensive oysters. $13.50/dozen, not $13/bushel but more reasonable than most other places I can find.  The other food is great, too, and reasonably priced.  We had all kinds of burgers, seafood & "regular" that were all delicious, large beers for $4 each and desserts.  Highly recommend.
