Popularity still seems to hurt the service consistency...but I need to be fair and update my review, which I like to mainly base on the food itself.
The last two dinners at Taqueria Moroleon have been terrific. And my dinner companions all had great meals too...
Two house specialities that really impressed me are the Parrillada and the Arrachera Tampiqueña were absolutely delicious. Whatever and however they are marinating that skirt steak will keep me coming back for sure.Listed in: Real Deal Mexican

Review from Karen F.
A good friend (who was a regular at their old location) and I had lunch at the new location of Taqueria Moroleon.
While the new "Italian Diner"-feeling location is spacious and clean (full bar with LED color-changing lights and tequila bottles shaped like skulls), it has lost some of it's charm from the "old days".
Thankfully, the food is wonderful (at least, we were very pleased).
My friend had a specialty burrito (can't remember which one) and I had the Lunch combo #2 with a chicken burrito (instead of beef) and a GREAT corn-tortilla wrapped cheese enchilada. The tortilla tasted super fresh.
Service by Suri (Suril?) was great - what a doll!
Prices are a bit high - especially for dinner - but for lunch it's a decent value and the portions were huge (both of us took home about 1/2 of our meals).
Fresh (slightly greasy) chips and 2 kinds of salsa (not pico) were a refreshing change from the "Old El Paso"-style "ketchup" we are used to getting at El Tapatio. (Sorry El Tapatio - we love you for different reasons).Listed in: Flam's take on MOX-ican

I had dinner there Saturday evening and I was not very impressed. The service was slow and the chicken burrito and chicken tostada I ordered had absolutely no spice to it all, even the hot sauce on the table was weak.
The only positive about this place was the chips and salsa. -

Always loved this place. And now they have margaritas! Pretty reasonably priced too. Taquitos chicken or pork are a must! This is the place that got my husband to like guacamole. I'm still on the fence (w/ the guac). I am however a huge burrito fan & this place has the best, hands down.
If you like Mexican food, this place is a must do. -

The most authentic Mexican restaurant near Wilmington, DE. Taqueria Moroleon offers some go-to Mexican standards: tacos, burritos, etc., but also has a great selection of less well-known fare... the crown jewel of these being the molcajete, a spicy stew of chicken and/or steak, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and chorizo. It comes out to your table sizzling in a stone mortar, for which it's named, with a side of rice, beans, guacamole, and tortillas. This stuff makes the best tacos ever! I suggest washing it down with a margarita on the rocks.
The restaurant is very conducive to entertaining large parties. The attire is casual. The decor is quite interesting... think Tijuana meets Mt. Vernon... Stucco textured, terra-cotta walls framed in by crown moulding, chair-rails, wainscoting, and neoclassical columns and arches. It's cool though, there are all sorts of Mexican paintings, tapestries, pinatas, and sombreros hanging from them. A great place to take the family and meet up with friends. -

First, this place has moved - it's now at 9173 Newport Gap Pike, Avondale, PA 19311. Not very far from it's original location in Kennett Square. We went there on a Sunday evening after reading the writeup in the Philadelphia Inquirer. The space itself is roomy and bright and the tables are well spaced so you don't feel crowded. They are not guilty of cramming too many tables into too small a space.
So, our experience. Started out well, with a short 10 minute wait for a table (they don't take reservations for less than 8 people). Our server arrived promptly with some good chips and delcious fresh red and green salsas - yum. She also handled the first drink refill and our order promptly and well. Then, we waited. And waited. And waited. It was a full hour between when we ordered our food and it finally arrived. Our server came by once to say 'it would be right out' about halfway through, then as time dragged on she seemed to be actively avoiding us.
Finally, our food comes out. It was definitely authentic Pacific Coast/Guadalajara style Mexican, which was really lovely in the land of tex-mex, California-style burrito chains and Taco Hell. The problem was, the dishes weren't served well. My husband's Arrachera Arriera had oustanding meat flavor - really delicious - it's only problem was that it was served cold. My Parrillada was sizzling hot, but the green onions had not been caramelized at all prior to being served so my first bite was of sharp, bitter onion. By the time they caramelized on the sizzling plate, the steak strips were cold. Top it off with flour tortillas that were falling apart and it was crushingly disappointing because both of these dishes could have been really great.
I would say they had some kitchen management issues and their server was clearly not able to handle that (next time think about offering a free appetizer to tide us over or something, we know it's not your fault the kitchen isn't working right but, dang, we're hungry and an hour with just chips and salsa is a long time). When we mentioned our disappointment the manager did come over, seemed to really listen to our issues and promptly comp'd our dinner without our asking. Nice recovery.
I'd go here again at perhaps a less busy time, maybe the start of the dinner hour or for lunch, as this is really good food that has the potential to be great. -

I've been there several times for both lunch and diner. The food is fantastic, the service is friendly. Even when it's packed the servicve is good. If you're the leftover type, you'll probably take some home. I will continue to go back.
note: this is at 9173 Newport Gap Pike, just at the DE/PA state line -

I will no proclaim to be an expert in "authentic" Mexican food - I am merely completing my recovery program from years of fast food mexican and big chains that are not really too inventive. Arrived here last Saturday at 5:40 as part of a party of 7. This place is BUSY! We were seated promptly with plenty of chips and salsa. Other than a few that ordered beers - I was the only margarita drinker - went with the Presidente and enjoyed three of them over the course of the visit (yum!). We did some apps with the guacamole dip, spicy cheese dip and a plate of nachos. Nothing overly remarkable - but it was good. For dinner - I went with the Parrillada (steak) - it was good - steak could have been just a little more tender, but I was happy with it. My wife enjoyed the Pollo Campesino - very good with the only suggestion to uplift the chicken a little - her chicken was a very slight/pounded down piece that was very thin - wold like to see a juicier fuller chicken breast on this meal.
Service here was efficient, mostly timely. We didn't wait a long time for much of anything. I would definitely try here again - maybe even lunch since I am close. -

After an unsuccessful tasting at Va La winery up the road, I was hoping to dissipate my disappointment with a fine Mexican lunch. Unfortunately, Taquería Moroleón never matched the food of my favorite Philly taquerias. The huge menu written in the style of popular tex-mex chains (with many of the same dishes) did not inspire confidence and the dishes that came - tacos al pastor, mushroom quesadilla, huevos rancheros, all remained firmly in the "Meh" category, as did the soupy salsas. Much better: the chile relleno and the crunchy tortilla chips. Service was nice but absent after a while.

The one thing that Taquería Moroleón is missing for the real Méxican experience is having to present your Passport at the door and having it stamped.
The food is as authentic and delicious. If anyone wants to try the best "Enchiladas de Mole Poblano" outside of The "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" (in some places this are called also "Enchiladas de Oaxaca or Oaxaqueñas"). This dish is probably made in a large cauldron by a powerful witch with the most exquisite taste. If someone has seen the movie "Como agua para chocolate" (Like Water for Chocolate), I bet you that they get their chocolate and other spices from the same bodega.
Be ready to lick your fingers very very well after. -

Mexican restaurant. That means it's time to talk about quesadillas.
These are the best quesadillas I've ever had.
Ok. Good. Done. Well, no, I need to go on a lot more, as you probably know, but that's the important part, so I wanted to make sure you got it.
I was very surprised. I mean, for $4 you get a chicken quesadilla, and it is the thinnest thing I've ever seen. It looks like there's barely anything in there. And it comes with NOTHING - no tomatoes, no guacamole, no sour cream (cry!), no side dishes. What the heck?
But it's awesome. The chicken is shredded, which is what keeps the height down, and the flavor of the chicken, melted cheese, and whatever little sauce they have in there is absolutely fantastic.
I always feel like $4 for a small quesadilla that comes with nothing is a rip-off, but it's so good, I don't care. I spend my $9 - two quesadillas and $1 for sour cream (though, if everyone would like some, you only need to get one 'extra' helping - it's a pretty large container they give), and I'm in heaven. I usually get it as take out.
I have eaten there once or twice, and you should only do that if you have lots of time on your hands. We took a dinner break between treatments over at NBC one night, and got over there around 6:15, knowing we'd need to leave by around 7:20. We came in, sat down, got drinks and free tortilla chips, ordered our food... which came at 7:25. So we got it packed right up, and booked it out of there. It appears speed isn't one of their strengths.
But they did keep bringing more of those free tortillas, so, hey, whatever.
By the way, if you ask for those tortillas to take with you on a takeout order, they're NOT free.
What else about this place... everyone else seemed to also enjoy their food - and actually got a good amount of food for the price (unlike how I feel about the quesadillas). And they have those fun Mexican sodas.
Most importantly, though: Best quesadillas ever. Take it from someone who knows nothing about Mexican food. -
Review from Jay N.
Good Mexican food though certainly not the best I've had. My dining buddy gave the beef fajitas an acceptable rating; my horribly tough 'steak' tacos, which didn't taste much like steak at all were redeemed by the smoked pull pork tacos, among the best I've had.
The service and wait time here left a LOT to be desired; While we visited on a somewhat busy Saturday evening, we didn't get the impression they were being slammed and there were still empty seats, so the near 45-minute wait time between order time and receiving the food was baffling and a bit annoying for two hungry guys.
I've tasted flan all over the world and Taqueria Moroleon's is really good; I'd recommend it for anyone with a post-meal craving for something sweet.
The ambiance was pretty much non-existent but I wouldn't go to a Mexican restaurant in Pennsylvania for a romantic and/or quaint dining experience anyway. Give this place a try if you find yourself in the area with a hankering for Mexican food and with a lot of extra time to spare. -

I am always looking for a good mexican restaurant and was referred to this place by a mexican friend of mine.
The first visit I was with a party of 7. We made reservations because we heard it could get really busy on the weekends (this happened to be a friday night). When we arrived, we still had to wait for about 10 minutes until we were seated. One of us was already at the bar enjoying a house margarita. (Everyone at the bar seemed to have ordered one for themselves).
When we sat down initially, there were four of us. The waitress came over and started taking our order. We told her what we wanted to drink and also told her that we still had a few people coming.
And let the waiting begin..... within the next five minutes the rest of our table arrived. We waited a good 20 minutes until one of us asked if she knew who our waitress was. To this she seemed upset and replied that she would be right with us.
Still waiting...by the time she got to our table I along with the original four were out of our drinks. She took the rest of the party's drink order but did not ask if we wanted a refill.
When she came back (finally) with their drinks, my friend who was sitting next to me asked for a sprite refill. Before I could ask for more water, she was gone.
Still waiting....and when I mean that she was not attentive to us, it's not like she was MIA---she was stopping at every other table but ours. It was obvious and annoying.
So, when she did take our food order, one of us asked for more salsa with their meal. The waitress seemed appalled by this question and rudely asked, "well, what kind of salsa?!"
I have never had a waitress be so unwilling to waitress. She never welcomed us to the restaurant, told us her name, checked on us, (god forbid I ask for more water!) She didn't tell us to have a good night, nothing! Needless to say, I am pissed I left such a tip--but I can't help it.
In the midst of our waitress' horribleness, the food was excellent!!! I had chicken taquitos that were delicious! However, one of us ordered steak tacos that came out like hamburger meat--not what she was expecting & she entertained us the rest of the night on why she wouldn't touch it.
Anyway, I had a craving for those taquitos so I took a friend back for lunch. We sat at the bar and had the sweetest girl taking care of us. She was such a delight! All smiles and couldn't do enough to make sure we were having a good time. My friend had a chimichanga and burrito--and he ate the entire plate! Said it was the best mexican food he had in a long time.
Went back a third time, this time during the week (tues night) and again sat at the bar. And yet again, a wonderful server. I had to try the margaritas this time and had the 2nd one up from the house (can't remember the name) and it was to die for!
All in all, my first experience was terrible and had the food not been so good I would not have come back. I am the type of person that if I have to wait for you to seat me, I will leave. I am thrilled I gave this place a second chance, and if I had any advice--SIT AT THE BAR! -

Great Mexican food. Plenty of parking. We love the Molcajete (mol-ka-hee-tay) kind of a hot stew which comes bubbling in a lava rock bowl. It is enough for two people to share. Flan for dessert is to die for. Kids always enjoy crunchy beef tacos.

Had lunch there yesterday mid-afternoon (quieter and faster service). I was hungry for their terrific chips and salsa and went through two rounds! They can't be beat. Also had the chicken fajitas (gave me 3 flour tortillas this time) and also a great Chile Rellano, which was very decadently filled with cheese. I WILL be back and it IS worth the 8 mile drive!

Authentic Mexican restaurant on the Pennsylvania/Delaware state line with a handsome interior. Got the sampler trio with queso, pico de gallo, and guacamole. All made fresh and presented beautifully. At the table next to us, I spotted a volcanic rock dish with bubbling juices, so I ordered the dish (I forget what it's called). Since I ordered the combo, it came with juicy, tender pieces of chicken, beef, and shrimp. Definitely a huge portion, which reheated well for lunch. Only downfall is that they were waiting on their liquor license. You can BYOB (i.e. margarita mix & tequila) and they will mix your drinks for you in their pitchers and glassware.
