This Taqueria, and it's sister restaurant in San Anselmo,  serves the best carnitas hands down in Marin.  I usually get a tostada or soft tacos.  They put sliced potatoes in the jalapeno and carrot mixture at the salsa bar.
Yummy!

I happened to stumble onto this place today at lunch with a friend.  I don't know why I never noticed it before, I guess because I was always going to kragen and always broke so i never really looked around.  Anywho, the service was quick, the food was delicious and the prices were unbeatable.  I had the tacos dorado (five crunchy tacos) and my comrade had the jumbo burrito.  We will both be back to try more stuff!!

Really Good! I think it's one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I've been to. I was craving for Mexican food and found this a hole in the wall restaurant and it was amazingly good! I had carne asada plate. Yummm!! You can tell if it's good and authentic Mexican by the amount of Mexican people dine in! and, the salsa and chips are endless!! I'm going there again soon for sure!

My coworkers and I head here every Tuesday. It's even posted as a reoccurring meeting on our calendars to avoid scheduling conflicts each week.

Food here is cheap, delicious and authentic. This place has killer tacos (the chicken and el pastor are superb), salsa bar (green is the best) and wonderful fresh carrot and juice de melon.

Often a coworker will eat an entire double-meat super burrito and then foolishly attempt to be productive on return to the office. Time and time again they quickly fall into a severe burrito-coma and are reminded of the quiet (and sometimes dangerous) powers of Taqueria Mi Familia.

Delicious food, big portions, and very cheap.  The plaza is a little daunting to go in... there are a plethora of day laborers milling along the periphery of the plaza (and with that on days are uncomfortable stares) and not to mention on one of the busiest streets during high traffic hours of San Rafael.  However for under eight dollars you can get a Mexican plate dinner that includes rice, your choice of meat (go for the carne asada!), beans, lechuga y tomate.  Seriously, my boyfriend and I shared this dish and we were so full!  I will always go back for the authentic flavors and affordable prices.

I love this spot is is located inside a little shopping center next 2 Subway Sandwhiches and Marin Square cleaners. The wet Burritos are off the hook in here also the food prices remind me of the Mission back iin the day b4 it was popular and you could still get a burrito for like four or five dollars.

I went here last week I got 2 regular carne asada burritos $4.05 ea, 1 Super Carne Asada Burrito $5.05, 3 Jarritos Total $18.21 you cant beat that.

They also have a salsa bar and are pretty friendly I go here whenever im in the area check it out.

Having lived in Mexico for a few years, the 2 most authentic tasting Taquerias I have found in Marin are Taqueria Mi Familia and Taqueria San Jose http://www.yelp.com/bi... .

It's always a testament to the quality of the ethnic food when most of the patrons of the restaurant are of that ethnicity.  When you go on Sundays, you see many of the local Mexicans dressed in their Sunday best.

Almost every other Mexican place in Marin doesn't have Mexicans eating inside the dining room.  If they are there, they're all working in the kitchen and a lot of the recipes have been altered for Gringo tastes.

While I like the atmosphere of Taqueria San Jose best (especially the juke box), parking is a bit of a pain.  Thus, I usually prefer to go to Taqueria Mi Familia.  Easy parking and quick service.

The Ceviche is really good.  The tortas de carnitas are excellent.  The rice and refried beans taste as they should.

On weekends, they usually serve menudo (the hangover curing breakfast of champions).  The also serve a huge bowl of beef stew.

They make fresh orange juice and carrot juice to order.  Our favorite is to have them mix both juices together.  They also usually have horchata and melon waters.  The horchata (rice flavored with cinnamon water) has a nice flavor.

The chili relleno is spot on and the pork tamales are really good.

The Shrimp Cocktail is OK.

The soft tacos are delicious and the hard tacos are good.  We usually get them with carnitas or al pastor (mostly pork).

The Chicken Enchiladas are good.

The Burritos (which are not authentic Mexican food as they were invented in the US) are large and filling.

They have a side area with all you can eat chips and authentic Mexican salsas (which means that most of them are spicy!).

If you're longing for the authentic tastes of Mexico, I highly recommend Taqueria Mi Familia.

Favorite burrito spot in the Canal Area that is fairly unassuming from the outside, wedged in between a subway and a dry cleaners. Don't be detoured by the outside or by the blandly decorated inside, it's all about the food here. The crowd is mostly Canal residents, day laborers and blue collar types and at lunch time there can be bit of a wait. One thing I like a lot is that the staff sends someone out to take orders and start your food while you wait in line to pay, very time efficient and makes you feel engaged rather than zoning out in line.  Prices here are very economical  and the portions are grandisimos. I usually get the super chicken burrito  with black beans and no sour cream, hasn't let me down yet. Be sure to check out the monster soccer trophy in the kitchen, that was my soccer team back in 2003, we won the "Liga Latina de la Bahia" Boo ya!!

Let's be honest with ourselves for a moment.  There plenty of combinations of food thrown together in a tortilla calling themselves "burritos" circulating out there; Mi Familia happens to be the real deal.  I judge a good burrito by the Al Pastor, or marinated pork.  Other then the La Pinata burrito trucks (yes, trucks!) in Oakland, San Leandro, and various other parts of the East Bay floor, this place is the best.

This place is cheap and delicious through and through.  You can not and will not find a better place in San Rafael.

Yes I am a pompous burrito enthusiast.  Get over it.
