Our weekly treat of Quesadilla Suiza with steak can feed my family of 4! I don't know how but it's amazingly satisfying and tasty. I guess coz we also load up on the good chips & good variety of salsas.
Don't forget to pair your meal with some Jarritos. I like the sweet & sour Tamarind(Tamarindo) or the Sangria for a similar dessert wine kind of taste.

I am so disappointed that this place did not live up to the 4 star rating I saw on here. My boyfriend an I were in Concord for the day and I felt like Mexican food. This Taqueria was right across the street and so highly rated! Why? I don't know. Here's the rundown:
Atmosphere: A little junky and in need of a cleaning. We've all been to these types of places. Cheap food sometimes equals a less-than-stellar atmosphere. Whatever.
Chips and salsa: Chips are good but they have a sign over them asking you not to waste any. Kinda off-putting. There was a salsa bar and we tried two kinds. They were good.
Chicken enchilada plate: The most tasteless, bland Mexican food I have ever had. There was no seasoning in the chicken. Red sauce and cheese topping: bland. Refried beans: bland. Sour cream and guacamole toppings: bland. Portion size was good, but who needs it when it has no taste?
Burrito: Good but not the best. Definitely a large portion of burrito but in need of spicing up.
Drinks: Okay beer selection. No margaritas!
Needless to say, I'll be searching for a different restaurant the next time we are in the area. Maybe we just ordered the wrong food. Some of the photos on here look good. Too bad, though, because I'm not coming back. -

I have no idea what happened to this place! The food and service both had been better! I visited recently and ordered what I normally order. A carne asada fries for myself (kind of like nachos, but with fries instead of chips) and a carnitas burrito for my husband.
I have no problem with bad service for cheaper food, but when the quality of food is crappy, well that's a different story. They charged me an extra two dollars to substitute the fries for chips and my husband's super burrito had practically no guacamole and absolutely no sour cream, which it is supposed to come with. My fries were soggy and stale with various burnt things that I knew for a fact are not made of potatoes.
Sorry Los Gallos, but I will not be back unless absolutely necessary,1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Stephanie L.
Benicia, CA
I really don't understand why this place is so popular. I've been here twice and both times the food was mediocre at best. I decided to give it another chance today with my family and we were all disappointed in the quality of food.
For one, it was very bland for Mexican food (including the salsa at the salsa bar). The tortilla chips were very hard and barely edible; it was like they were just sitting out all day. My brother had some beef tacos and said they were some of the worst tacos he's ever had. The beef was barely edible; he said it was like chewing on rubber and had to spit half of it out because it was so fatty and full of gristle. Very poor quality meat for what you pay.
The guacamole was also very runny and bland. I've never had guacamole that liquid-like in consistency. Yuck. Beans and rice were okay. I've had chicken flautas and a taco salad there, but both were just okay. Nothing to rave about. The chicken was okay the first time I went there, but was dry and a little tough the second time.
It was also very dirty in there. Many of the tables had food particles all over them and nobody was around to clean them. Both times I've been in there it's been dirty, which there is no excuse for. The salsa bar was also very unkempt and nothing was labeled, which makes it hard to identify which salsa is which.
I will not be coming back here. I'd MUCH rather go to Chipotle, Rubios, La Pinata, Chevys... heck, even Taco Bell! Well... maybe not Taco Bell, but it's close. Anyway, I really gave it a chance. I'd give it one star, but the flautas and taco salad were okay. All the other food... not so much. -

I really think 1 star is too much. I ordered a burrito a week ago and it had rocks in it since the cook forgot to wash the beans. When i went back the next day the waitress didnt want to refund my money, after a lenghty meaningless conversation I was refunded but still doesnt help the fact I bit into Rocks in a burrito. So be aware what u order

Decent place for a Mexican meal. The jumbo burrito isn't exactly jumbo, but it is tasty.

Huge servings of authentic mexican food. Their chimichanga is insane, in both size and flavor. Burritos are fantastic. Carnitas all the way, I used to be a shrimp devotee but I can't eat it here. (They don't devein the shrimp, and that's icky, but given the prices it's not to be expected.)
Two locations on the Plaza, huge condiment/salsa bar which is nice. -

This place was hoppin on a weekday late afternoon. Line was going out the door. It's a bit clustered inside considering the number people in there and the space the salsa bar takes.
Carne asada tacos were moist, tender, full of flavor and reasonably priced. Taco's al pastor was actually pretty good and the prices weren't bad considering the location. Portions weren't bad.
To go order took a bit of time to come out but they were busy.
Will be back to try some other items and love the grass park in the area. -
Review from Ivy R.
My grandma told me that during her two week trip to the bay area she is going to eat every taco she comes across.
Our taco tour took her here.
There was a line and it was in the middle of lunch hour. But the line wasn't too long and moved relatively fast.
The restaurant itself is small and long shaped. When busy there could be a possibility of minimal seating. There is out door seating though so that is an option when the weather is nice.
I ordered the #2 Regular Burrito with Chicken. I got Sour Cream on the side.
The Chicken was blah and had no flavor. The Pico De Gallo salsa added some flavor but there needed to be more of it added. Mine was grouped only in the center of the burrito.
When you order Sour Cream on the side they do not skimp you. My grandma's eyes got wide and she said "Wow, that's what I'm talking about."
She loved her crunchy taco. She later told me that my grandpa was jealous of her being able to eat yummy Mexican food on her trip. He even told her NOT to call and tell him about it.
Instead she saved the to go menu and was going to show him what she had instead.
Aww, for the love of Taco's.Listed in: Down In Mexicali, Beer & Wine Only

Los Gallos is SPOT ON mexican food. I grew up in Ohio, so when someone says mexican, that used to mean Chipotle or Taco Bell.... oh, naive michael, how little you really knew. I moved to SF about 3 years ago and was introduced to the many Taquerias in the mission.... whole new world, baby.
But Los Gallos? All others fail. All others. And the people who work there are generally pretty cool and quick.
Oh Carnitas... how I love you. -

I hired Taqueria los Gallos to cater my wedding. They were very easy to work with ahead of time -- executed contracts quickly, got us the necessary permits. They were well organized and professional which can not be said of all taquerias...
They were on-time and the food was great. Tacos at a wedding were a big hit and everyone kept going back for more! -

This place is absolutely amazing! It's hands down the BEST taqueria in the far East Bay. I've been coming here for probably around 10 years now!
I always order the Super Burrito Al Pastor, and it's always amazing! The burritos are juicy, flavorful and has plenty of guac and sour cream, just the way I like them! Seriously, order the Al Pastor! It's the best here.
There are free chips that you can pile high into a basket, so you can fully enjoy the fantastic complimentary salsa bar! It's the best salsa bar I've ever seen. There are at least 5 different salsas including salsa verde, chipotle, pico de gallo, and salsa roja. I absolutely adore the salsa verde! It's addicting. I'm always taking what seems like far too many to-go containers of it home; but trust me, I use it all to submerge my chips and douse my burrito. Yeah, I'm that person who uses way too many condiments!
There are plenty of other great items in the salsa bar too! Lemons, limes, jalapeños, cucumbers, marinated onions, radishes, pickled veggies (carrots, potatoes, jalapeños, etc), and they even added fruit now! I saw a mixed fruit dish once and fresh watermelon slices once! Amazing!
This place is inexpensive, quick and delicious! It's also right on the Todos Santos Plaza square, so it's nice to sit outdoors here on a warm summer day. -

Camarones a la Diabla is incredible. So much flavor, plenty of heat, and did I say flavor? Mmmmmm.
Burritos are great, too! -

I've visited Los Gallos on multiple occasions and I have to say that I enjoy going there.
I always ask for the jumbo burrito with carne asada and an horchata. The people have been friendly so far and it's a great place overall.
It's an affordable price and great taste.
If you're in the Concord area, stop by Los Gallos, seriously.

Decent food, not the cleanest place in town.
I went there the other day & stood in line for 5 minutes while the girl at the counter ignored me & chit chatted with customers who had already got their food.
I had only gone there because the place I wanted to go to was closed. -
Review from Joe K.
The electrician on our job whom happens to be Hispanic had been raving about this place for some time. Finally I had him bring me an Al Pastor Burrito. The burrito was huge and it was filled with the most delicious al pastor I have ever had and that is saying a lot. The beans and salsa in the burrito were delicious as well and I am very picky about my beans. The thing was so big and so delicious that I could not stop eating until I was so full that I was almost sick. Finally, when I was almost finished, I threw the rest away because it was the only way I could stop eating it.
Of course I had to go to Los Gallos to check out what other wonderful food they had on their menu. I decided to try an Al Pastor taco, a Pollo Asado taco, and a carnitas taco. The other tacos were good but the Al Pastor taco was flat out awesome.
They also have a very good salsa bar with a nice selection of salsas, slices of fresh fruit, and plenty of rather addicting chips. I have never been to a taqueria before that offered free slices of fruit while you are waiting for your food.
I cannot wait to go back and try something else. Of course I will be ordering another Al Pastor taco too.Listed in: Mexican and Salvadoran food in…

Me gusta mucho!
My friends didn't believe me that this little place could be so good. Well, I've converted these non-believers.
Fresh, large portions with endless homemade chips and salsa.
This place is authentic, but doesn't leave me with a tummy ache, which usually happens when I eat Mexican food.
And did I mention the cheap prices?
$3.50 for a Small Burrito (which is all that I need with these portions).
$4.99 for an Enchilada plate with rice and beans.
Gracias! -

Oh...it hurts so good.
Between this place and the Tacos Mi Rancho truck in Oakland, I think I have 2 varieties of tacos and burritos covered instead of having to drive all the way to SF.
Let me start off by saying that everything everyone has said is true! Their chips are fresh and amazing, their salsa is just as fresh, and everything is cheap for the size you get. Yes, it hurts so good...because your tummy will be at capacity, bursting at the seams, and if you can't handle the heat...it's going to be an uncomfortable night!
My only gripe was that they were out of horchata when we got there, but their agua fresca was good.
Personally, I'll take downtown Concord over the Mission at night, but I know the lady is going to drag me to SF anyway, but at least this place is on my map in terms of convenience and more importantly, quality.
Enjoy! -

Rolled in here on a Sunday night about 6:00
Four peeps in line, which moved pretty fast.
Ordered a Carne Asada & a Carnitas super burrito.
Had the order along with the complimentary chips & salsa in ten minutes.
$14.70 for the pair of burritos.
The carnitas was the best of the two.
Burritos are on the grande size, the Mrs had the 2nd half for lunch the next day(not quite as good the 2nd time around)
Slightly more flavorful then their other location in Pleasant Hill.
Parking is normally a hassel, street or the parking garage.
Good stuff! -

its pretty generic Mexican... nothing exciting. I get mad every time I go there though, they always seem to mess up my order by one thing... like putting salsa when I asked for it on the side... or including rice on my tostada. And I speak Spanish.
I also have a huge problem with their rice... that seems to be included on ever "veggie option" on the menu... yet its made with chicken broth. So vegetarians beware!
The one thing that I do like is their salsa bar, lots of options, good chips. -

I stumbled into this little restaurant by default a couple of weeks ago with my girl friend. I am a HUGE fan of Mexican food so when my stomach started to grumble while sitting at the Starbucks next door and remembered walking past a taqueria on the way in, I knew EXACTLY where we should grab a bite to eat.
My friend and I got the crispy taco plate. Umm...Yum??! I didn't expect the food to be very good. I've been let down in the Mexican food arena a lot lately. So it was to my astonishment that this place served real, authentic, and DELIOUS Mexican food. A few of my favorite features of this restaurant include their salsa bar with an unlimited amount of free chips for all to enjoy, and their customer service. I think this is the first Mexican restaurant that WALKED my order to my table. Awesome.
I DEFINITELY plan on coming back ;). If their crispy tacos are good, then I look forward to seeing what their super burrito is like. Yum-o. -

After living in China for three months, I came back craving some mexican good. Checked for places on Yelp and this place popped up so I figure I'd check it out. Forgot to look at the map before leaving, so it took me about half an hour to find the place , but it was worth it. Got a Carnitas Super Burrito and it was fantastic, plus, great portions - first time I can remember that I couldn't finish a burrito in one sitting

This is one of my favorite places to get Mexican food. They are close to my house pretty cheap and have AMAZING nachos. I have been going here for years and love seeing all the familiar faces that work there. They are very nice and have great service. I always recommend this place if people want some great not to costly Mexican food.

This is one of my most favorite places to come for lunch. I normally get burritos or tacos and they are consistently made to awesomeness.
The food is well priced for the area and made very well. This is very close to my homemade liking. I normally do take out. But even when dining in, the food is made quickly.
I like the chip and salsa bar. Very nice touch. Overall great place!! -

I came here on a Friday close to 7pm at watching Toy Story. I read that the food is pretty good here for cheap and my gf has gone here and liked it so I wanted to give it a try.
Theres plenty of parking in the free public garage and it is really close to Los Gallos. Service is fast and nice.
Ordered: Jumbo Burrito Carne Asada $6.95
Fajitas Marinas S10.99
Jumbo Burrito:had beef, tomatoes, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, bean, cheese and rice
Fajitas Marinas: Grilled Shrimp with Onions, Tomatoes and Bell Peppers. Served with Rice, Beans and Tortillas
This place also has free self serve chips and salsa. The green salsa is really good. Good food for cheap price. The only nitpicky thing i have is the tortilla they use is kind of subpar. But other than that good place to eat on a budget. -
Review from Daniel S.
First, an aside to all gringo yelpers: It's called a taqueria for a reason: because they are proud of their tacos. In my ideal world, gringos should not be permitted to eat burritos at taquerias until they have eaten at least 3 tacos there.
Anyway, this is a Mexican place where I know I'll be happy. It's cheap and:
* The tacos taste right -- I've had carne asada, carnitas, and pastor (the holy trinity of Mexican taco meats). I'm still dreaming of the moist carnitas.
* They have an enormous and very authentic salsa+fixings bar, with rajas (pickled peppers and veggies), marinated onions, radishes, and a host of other things you don't normally see, but you should! As a result, you can pile on the ingredients and create something exactly like the ideal tacos that I had in Mexico.
* You get unlimited quantities of freshly made tortilla chips. These ain't Tostitos, folks!
* Their refried beans are excellent, and reminded me of why anybody eats them in the first place.
* They proudly use lard! Yum.Listed in: Bay Area Taco Quest

I hope Im yelping the right one.. there are 2 in close proximity.
FABULOUS salsa.. I'm a total salsa whore for this place. I'm that chick with 3 too many take home salsa thingies.
That's OK. I own that title for this place.
The one across from Bank of America is cooler than the other one. The other one was less cleaner and had spanish music blaring and that really harshed my mellow.
GREAT breakfast burrito. You eat one of these, you wont be having lunch at noon. Super filling.
If you're vegetarian, I wouldn't advise.. as sometimes I asked for items with no meat and it would sneak in anyway. Good thing Im a 'carniveggie' - I can go either way.Listed in: Ju Lika Da Salsas?

Good eats after a long day at Todos Santos Park. I ordered the tostada de ceviche and I thought it was the perfect cap for the first day of summer. The tostada is fairly big; 2 is more than satisfying, plus they don't skimp out on the ceviche. You also get all you can eat chips, although we all agreed that the chips were very hard (not stale). My cousins got the pork tostadas and thought it was salty.
Overall, a nice little joint during the summer days; definitely a good spot to sit outside and people watch. -

This place was legit. And believe me when I say this, for I am mexican and there is nothing I detest more than "mexican" restaurants.
This place is not the best, but if you are looking for a mexican meal, at a place where they don't litter the world with sombreros they give out to people having their birthday party in their "authentic mex" restaurant, then come here.
The chips were very good, too. Here is a pointer: If the chips are somewhat--even just a LITTLE bit--chewy, then never go back. The trait of a good mexican restaurant is the care they take when making and replenishing their chips. It is like fine wine or caviar, bad chips are a sin to me.
Tagline: Yes, you mexi-CAN come here and eat well. -

When I'm craving Mexican and I'm on this side of the bay, Taqueria Los Gallos is the place to go. There's always diners in there...so you know its good!
They are friendly, fast, and the food hits the spot! If you dine in, they have chips and salsa (many to choose from at the salsa bar). If you order to go, simply ask for a bag for chips. (I can't eat my burrito's without chips.) The aqua frescas are yummy! Highly recommend the nachos, shrimp tacos, vegetarian burrito!

Good food, but not good enough for 4 stars...until the guy in traditional Mexican attire played some great solo ballads. I've found that live music native to the food can enhance the culinary experience. Even with the music though, don't come here for a nice sit-down meal. It's simply a no-frills place to chow down on some tasty tacos or burritos.

If Chipotle isn't really your style then you might just enjoy Los Gallos much more. Just one of a handful of authentic taquerias in downtown Concord. And in Walnut Creek? Umm, well you've got Chipotle at least.
While Los Gallos is seemingly a taqueria, they also have a huge selection of other entrees to chose from, including fajitas, tostadas, grilled items, etc. Each comes on an enormous plate with rice, beans, and salad. Still, I wasn't totally pleased with the carne asada fajitas since the meat was dried out. The super burrito was much more to my liking and well worth the $6. I'd like to come back for the tacos and a quesadilla suiza before I allot another star. Better than El Balazo for sure, though I enjoyed Los Altos more.
Two more positives: a salsa bar with a nice variety of salsas and other goodies, and one free refill on the agua frescas is allowed. What taqueria ever does that? Nice. -

My rule of thumb: You know an ethnic dining establishment is good when people of that ethnicity are chowin' down there.
It feels authentic because I'm usually the only non-Mexican person there. The food is delicious and filling, especially for the prices. I'm not very daring, so I usually get the super burrito.
Tonight, the gf is picking up an order and I'm trying out the super nachos with steak. I'm sure they are just as yum.
Oh yeah... chips and salsa bar! and lots of jalapeños!
Definitely worth a visit. -
