Ceviche is my best friend/ enemy...
It calls out my name in the middle of the night sometimes....
So this time I had to try the spot Becca said was next to the Shell by our job, so we did.
Super cheap, ceviche amazing but, I wish it came with a bread type substance instead of chips besides that go team Go!
And the cashier that took our order amzing eyebrows( please note she does do them herself)
This is also right near my work and one of the places my co-workers and I frequent.
Can't go wrong with the burritos they are excellent, get the super though it has all of the extras.
We usually call in the order first so we can just go pick it up. The cashier is very friendly and when we were a dollar short for the order it was no problem. Thanks for looking out for us poor folks ha hahaaa.
Today I was a little sad about my nachos, there was only a little pico de gallo, gucamole, carnitas and cheese. There was ALOT of watery refried beans, as a result, I had a soggy nachos.
I should have stuck with tacos or burritos.
I am tempted to try menudo here, is menudo really fishy?
The fruit juice was not looking fresh today. There was so much little fruit flies hovering over and in the open containers of fruit juices.
A MISS for the day, hopefully, a redemption next time.

This place is well worth the extra drive for me. I absolutely love this place. Especially on the weekend for there Muendo or Pozole. There food reminds me of my grandmother's cooking. So, after you order weither it's upstairs, which I enjoy or downstairs. Your food is brought to you nice and hot. Can't wait for these winter days to enjoy some nice hot soup from La Morena.
I've eaten here (3) times for lunch....gotta say it's pretty good. As long as you don't mind the close quarters, the food is worth it. I've had the enchiladas and tamales - awesome. Although I'm a huge mexican food fan, I'm big on spicy. Their food is spicy, but in a good way. Definitely adds flavor to the dish. Can't beat the price either.
[S]ucks with a Capital S!!!!
Greasy black finger prints on my wife's plate.
Luke warm food, tasted stale.
Coming from Texas, maybe I expect better for Mexican food.
For anyone who loves Mexican food, avoid this joint!
Also - the shrimp cocktail - about 8 bucks - is a rip-off. More liquid than anything else.
OMG! SHRIMP BURRITO! If you like fresh, juicy, perfectly cooked, tasty shrimp, please give yourself a present by coming here for a delicious Burrito de Camaron! You will not be disappointed - delicious shrimp in almost every bite. The burritos are also wrapped nice and tight (even the Supers with all the fixins') so you won't have to worry about your burrito falling apart.
Although it was $7.50 - a bit pricey, it was totally worth it and I'm definitely coming back here again.
P.S. This is a great place for groups because they have two floors of seating, so bring a buddy!

I was in the area on Friday. Have always heard good things about htis taqueria. So stopped in and ordered a super Carne Asada Burrito. OMG! This wasa meal in itself. Stuffed with meat. I am going ot combine to words in order to describe it in one word......Scrumptilicious. With tax, it was $6.00. They are near the corner of Baden and Grand. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. But, Oohhh The burrito was Scrmptilicious!!! Bravo!!
Had it again on Sept. 3, 2009 and it's consistently a five-star experience!

La Morena is top a top 3 taqueria in south city. The Super Burrito w/ carne asada is good size, but wont fill you up and make you stuffed.
Michael D, who posted two people below me pretty much stole the words out of my mouth. I told him that the tortilla is the most underrated part of the burrito and he puts it in his review.
I reserve 5 star ratings for only the best of the best, the creme de la creme. Taqueria La Morena is very deserved of my resounding praise. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THIS PLACE, YOU DON'T LIKE MEXICAN FOOD. Plain and simple.
Having lived in south city for most of my life and in near proximity to La Morena, I am thoroughly disgusted with myself for not discovering this place sooner. Before La Morena, I had been spinning my wheels at places like El Faro. La Morena has incredibly fresh ingredients and great tortillas, which is always the most underrated part of a good burrito. I highly recommend.
Gracias, La Morena. Tu eres numero uno!
I've searched high and low, far and near, but have not found anything that can compare to the burritos here at La Morena. After living in the East Bay for about four years, I realized how fortunate I was when I lived in SF to be able to drive over without paying bridge toll.
I've been coming here for probably over six years now. I have tried other mom and pops in the East Bay, Chipotle, and Taco Trucks... but seriously nothing was close to the quality you get here. Many places charge you extra for guacamole, sour cream, and beans... I mean c'mon!! Seriously?? The essentials to a yummy burrito and I have to pay EXTRA for it? Forget it!
Well, La Morena is not like that. You can get a regular burrito which does not include all the yummy things I mentioned but you can get a super burrito which includes the yummy for I believe $5.50. The price has increased these past few years, but what keeps me coming back is just the flavor of the burrito!
I usually get a steak burrito. Usually at other places their steak is just steak comprising of a lot of the fatty parts, overcooked, and unflavorful. But not La Morena! The steak if it does have fat, is minimal, you can hardly notion, it's cooked perfectly, and actually has flavor!!!
Enough said, you've gotta go and try it out for youself
Ordered food today for our school fund raiser. They gave me a great price plus many extras. Lots of Salsa. Everyone loved the food and would go there in the future for Mexican food. They let you use their warmer box and never asked for a deposit. Thank you Eloy (sorry for the spelling)
Go here for lunch a lot, because it's very tasty. Being a white boy I hammer down the burritos - delicious.
Alright all you who like it Missionary Style - by that I of course mean those who live and die at the altar of mexican food from the mission - you've been upended yet again by South SF. La Tapatia and La Morena are the 1-2 punch.
I have been remiss in not reviewing this place sooner, especially since I've been here probably 8-10 times. In terms of quality and flavor the food is a close 2nd to La Tapatia. That being said, this place makes some truly solid Mexican food and I'm very impressed. Plus it's HUGE, and there's lots of seating. That's something that it has over Tapatia for sho'!
The carne asada is well seasoned and reminds me of the carne asada i get in San Diego. The carnitas is the thing to get here. It is terrific, crispy, juicy, everything carnitas should be. You get a huge burrito for cheap, you get it for here and the service is fast and friendly. There are a few choices for hot sauce too (green and red). The value here is exceptional and outside of La Tapatia I think you may be hard pressed to find better Mexican food in the Bay Area. Lunch for under $6 (that doesn't involve golden arches). You need to try this place, it's good times.
When it comes to tacos, I preffer La Taqueria on Mission but if we are talking burittos, this place is the best i have had.
Best ever!!! I love this place!! Man everything from the horchata to the tacos...Man everything is jus so delicious about this place I'm hungry just thinking about it!! Hahaha yes I know I'm a heffer but this place jus has the best food and the posole that they have on weekends taste jus like how abuelita makes it man its bommmmb =D
I'm a South City native. Growing up in high school, this place was THE place to hit up for authentic comida Mexicana. Although I now live in in SF and I'm surrounded by great taquerias, La Morena is STILL one of my favorite spots.
Gracias La Morena para todos los burritos, tacos, y horchatas de muy deliciosos!
Every time I eat my ceviche tostada de pescados, I want to sing "Amorcita corazon, yo tengo tentacion, de un peso...."
Walking in, you have the pleasant sensation of being in a restaurant well cared for and welcoming.
Fabulous murals, Spanish stones, and wooden furniture provide a colorful atmosphere. There's room to breathe here, room to sit and relax and enjoy, which is tough to find in the Mish.
The food was solid Mexican, as we know it, food. Flavorful, filling; contentment on a plate.
There is PLENTY of space to sit. 5-6 tables are downstairs, 15 or so are upstairs.
The staff is courteous, quick and you can tell they care about this place!
Been going to this place since a kid when I lived in So City. I now live in Fremont and Every chance I get to swing by so. city I grab some food from this place. This is the best mex I have had period. lived in San Diego, lived in the city and though some places there came close this is still my fav probably because it is constant and cheap
This place is owned by my friend's uncle.
I've been going here since i was a small child.
They have the best guacamole and salsa.
Not to mention they have delicious salsa verde.
This place is usually packed when I go.
AMAZING BURRITOS.
Mmmmmm. Al Pastor.
This place is actually worth driving out of the city for. If you love Burritos like I love Burritos (and I really friggin like Burritos) switch off days, between this place and La Taq. You know, just to make sure you don't over do it by eating at just one every single day and then ruin it for yourself for a few... I hate it when that happens.
As far as taqueria food goes, this place is great for a quick dinner. It's very clean and has lots of seating. I literally live less than a block away, so I tend to grab a burrito at least once a week. It's nothing incredible, but the food is always good, the service is friendly, and they always get my order right (often a problem at other taquerias). I like the carne asada best. Good burritos, quesadilla and nachos, haven't had much else.
O.M.G. sweet baby hayzeus. This is THE BEST mexican restaurant with the tastiest, most mouthwatering carne asada around. Period. nom nom nom!!!
my my mexican food cherry was popped here. tee hee.
I get the super veggie burrito with jalapenos. I usually get an aqua fresca and chips. What do I spend for all that? Under $8 dollars.
The food is very fresh here and has a ton of flavor. Usually, I get the cravings for La Morena on Wednesdays and then end up making the trip back on Fridays.
The owner is a super guy. He is very genuine and friendly. The service is fast. It gets pretty crowded so you might want to get there before 11:30.
Two funny notes-- look for the photo of the owner and a chimp, and listen to the owner's daughter talk about her plans for the weekend while her dad stands there and listens. The exchange between the two is pretty classic and cute.
I think i have a problem!! I can't get the thought of a Carnitas super burrito out of my head even after i just ate one. Let's start with the price. OUTSTANDING!! $5 for a super burrito that is the size of a baby's arm!! Fresh ingredients. Easy parking. And most important they are fast and the food is delicious!!
Make friends with the owner. He's usually taking orders. Trust me it's worth it!!
La Morena is my #2 burrito spot (after La Tapatia!). The ingredients are not quite as flavorful (the rice is seriously lacking something!), but La Morena has a huge plus over La Tap in that there is seating. You can actually take a seat up or down stairs and enjoy your meal, which is really nice.
The aguas frescas are really tasty (horchata is my favorite), and they have a decent beer selection.
If you're looking for South City's best burrito to go, check out La Tapatia. If you'd like to sit down and have a more leisurely lunch or dinner, La Morena is a solid choice!
Their burritos are fantastic. The carne asada is marinated or seasoned perfectly. Other burrito joints have chewy or fatty carne asada, but their meat is tender and delicious!!
Their Aguas Frescas is to die for no matter the flavor! I've had strawberry a few times and cantaloupe once. Outstanding!
My husband had ceviche on a tostada and raved about it all afternoon!
The service is great. The people are always super nice and accommodating.
This is a South San Francisco establishment. My family and I have been going here for years. Food is still great, the meat is done right, the burritos are still fat and the prices still cheap. I love the people that work there too ;)
Much love to Taqueria Morena
5 stars if I had only tried the ceviche, the best ceviche I have had from any taqueria, very fresh and flavorful. We tried the prawn cocktail w/o clams and they were nice enough to make it without the clams, the prawns were a nice size, properly de-veined. Nice , big, fresh chunks of avocado, my only complaint is that the broth tasted a bit too much like ketchup in the prawn cocktail.
I will be back for the ceviche and to try more options!
If ever I'm craving for a great burrito at a dirt cheap price the first thought in my head is La Morena! Tough to beat a super burrito for only five dollars. I've been getting my burritos here for years and prefer it over the comparable La Tapatia on Grand. Everyone that I've introduced to this taqueria has loved it also.
My regulars are the super burritos with carne asada or shrimp.
Taqueria La Morena rules!
We have been coming here for over 7 years now. I love their bean and cheese burritos with hot sauce. They remind me of the bean and cheese burritos I'd get back in the Southland. The beans are nice and salty, with a few bean pieces here and there. Most times when you ask for a bean and cheese burrito in the Bay Area, they don't know what you're talking about, but they do here.
I also enjoy their carnitas, which can be a bit fatty, but most times I get nice, big pieces of fried, pork done right.
The nachos plate can feed at least 3 (if not 4) easily: tons of chips, your choice of meat, sour cream, cheese, guac, pico de gallo. Definitely a meal in itself!
When you order a quesadilla suiza, they serve it up with huge sides of guac, sour cream, and pico de gallo.
The pozole serving is humongous, perfect for a cold, summer day in the Bay.
The horchata here is sweet and cinnamon-y and not to grainy.
La Morena's red and green salsas are also tasty and are a good medium-hot.
There is lots of seating upstairs with huge picnic sized tables. The tables on the first level and 4-seaters and one picnic sized table.
The staff is always nice and the prices super reasonable! I've had a number of burritos in the Mission and by far this place kills it, hands down.
I love this place and they have great burritos. The man behind the counter always has a smile on his face and is extra nice to you if you come with an attractive girl (which means free chips and salsa if you come with a blonde). The burritos are the best in the area and very reasonably priced.
Hands down the best taqueria in south city. Get the super burrito and your choice of meat and you will be satisfied. Trust me on this. It is worth your time and money to check it out. Lines get usually long around 12 pm but its worth the wait. La Morena deserves all 5 stars
One of the better places to get a burrito in South City. Carne Asada, Al Pastor and Carnitas are tasty here. My wife discovered this place when she was working out near Oyster Point years ago. We've been coming here ever since...
I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered from here. Whether take out or eat in, this place is my top pick for the best al pastor burrito. I've tried others, but no one does it better than this place.
Not only is the food reasonable, but the price and service is good as well.
Tacos, tacos, tacos!
Bomb, bomb, bomb!
Oh sorry, I thought I was at Miyaki's....wrong genre of food.
But this place is da' bomb....cheap eats, good Mexican food, and conveniently located near my work.
Is it the best taqueria? No. But for the convenience and for the pretty tasty eats, I give it quatro estrellas.
La Morena is down the street from my house and I love coming here for my tacos or burritos. The service is excellent and they are pretty quick with getting your order ready. If you're in the area, you gotta try this place.
Their priceses are decent .
We too, order a lot from this spot for work lunches (they'll deliver for big orders! shhh)
The owner is a terrible flirt (in a good way) and very nice guy. The food is pretty solid - I've never had anything here I didn't like. Definitely my favorite Mexican joint in the area.
Viva La Morena!!!
