We stopped here yesterday and had a very enojoyable feast on the lovely outdoor patio.
I had carne asada tacos, the test of a taqueria in my opinion. They were great. They come with radishes and some vinagery lettuce that was spicy as hell and delicious. The carne asada was tender and juicy and they put lots of cilantro on the tacos. The guy sitting next to me had the chicken tinga, which is what I will order next time I go.
My boyfriend had a chorizo burrito, which was one of the best burritos I've ever tasted. They have great salsas, both the red and green.
They have a huge menu with all kinds of meat choices. They serve beer too, which is always a nice treat. The service was very friendly and welcoming.
I love the big grill outside...I watched the cook grill whole chickens for a few minutes and chatted with him about the restaurant. He said it has been in the family for over 15 years. How's that for authentic?
Keep it a secret cause otherwise the best Mexican in the sound will completely blow up.
They say Burien is the new Ballard, and if this place starts crawling with hipsters we will only have yelp to blame.
There's nothing like a hole in the wall taqueria where you can get authentic food. Every menu item is authentic here, and nothing is compromised. There are good tacos de carnitas, gorditas, and many other items. This place is what it is: a hole-in-the wall taqueria with everything prepared authentically, and the owners aren't afraid to spice things up with habaneros or other peppers either. I loved it, and at the same time, I have a hard time believing that there aren't a few other places of similar quality in the Burien area...
By the way, they serve Negra Modelo among other things. :) I love tinga...so, I have to go back to try the tacos de tinga so I can die a fullfilled man with a full stomach. I've decided to bump this place up to 5 stars just because I think most every item on the menu is prepared authentically. It's all that you could ask for in terms of a hole-in-the-wall place.
Very hot salsa. A bit of a wait, but well worth it
After driving past many times and seeing the place PACKED every single time, I finally decided to check it out one random Sunday. I couldn't find a parking spot in the lot, and parked on street out front. On my way to the door, Alex (the owner), introduced himself and told me that I can't park there, but he will move his truck so I can park in the lot. Hows THAT for customer service?!?!
I played it safe with the chicken platter ($7.99), which has a half house roasted chicken, tortillas, rice, beans with cheese, and a simple salad. Along with the great salsas, it was a fantastic, satisfying meal!! Chicken was tender and so flavorful, with a salty, well spiced rub, and very little fat on the skin. It tasted freshly made too. Alex told me the lamb platter was very popular too, and was a speciality from his homeland. I'll definitely give that a try next time.
They even have a solo mariachi guitarist on the weekends, who will give you a nod and big smile with the slightest of eye contact. Its a lil gem in the heart of Burien, and now I know why its packed all the time.
It's worth the trip from Lake City. I go with a friend who comes down from Marysville once a week.
Great Mexican food, not dumbed-down or gringafied. The menudo is perfect, they make proper, they have birria, they have every flavor of Jarritos under the sun and, even better, more Mexican coke in that proper, beautiful beaten-up green glass bottle than my fridge.
The green sauce tastes like heaven. I want more of it.
Hopefully that translation doesn't suck. Thank you Google Translator!
v.2The ratings were good, so I decided to check it out today. Steak burrito, chile and cheese tamales, pork tacos..all DELICIOUS! AND, they have 500 ml Mexican Coca Cola which everyone knows is so much better than our high fructose corn syrup junk we have here. The green salsa is super good, and packs some heat. I sort of overdid it thinking it was guacamole. Oops. Very friendly staff, and they even had a guitar player soothing the diners in full-on traditional Mexican garb. If you happen to be in Burien and want some great mexican food, drive PAST the Taco Time, the Taco Bell and come HERE.
I forgot to mention, we fed a family of 4 for only $20. Add the Coca-cola's brought the total to $25 including tax and tip...totally worth it.
When the salsas are blow-your-mouth-off hot and no one "warns" the table, you know you stumbled upon the best tacqueria in Seattle. The food was excellent, the restaurant minimal and spotless in the shell of an old Taco Bell. But finally this building has a soul.
My husband and I are regulars here. I live right down the street and I promise you, this place is the best AUTHENTIC mexican food. My husband is from Puebla Mexico and he says its just like home. And the place is full of hispanics 7 days a week, so that says something. It seems to be family run, it appears that 2-3 generations keep this place moving fast. The food is very consistant and a great price!
And yes, the green hot sauce is FREAKIN HOT! I cant stand it, but my husband loves it! I go for the red.
What to order?
The tinga, I like it pork, but you can get chicken.
We always get at least 1 tamale-rajas is just cheese and peppers or pork but they are all good.
The chorizo burrito makes us drool just thinking about it.
We love anything here with chorizo.
Any chicken dish is good, they cook it outside on a big grill.
The quesadillas are good too.
And one more thing. This place is soo clean!
Seriously one of the last family owned small business restaurants that deserves your support!
So I came here after reading the 12 previous 5-star reviews (and one 4-star). I was sorta expecting an Azteca-like environment.
This is definitely not a fancy restaurant. This is a "dive". A place you can get AMAZING food served on plastic plates with three different kinds of silverware (a black plastic knife, a metal fork, and a white plastic spoon, to be exact).
We had never experienced "real" tortillas until we came here. And the green sauce, while HOT as the hinges of Hades, was so good that I, the one who never understood why hot things could be considered tasty, suddenly understood!
And now I have fallen in love with Jarritos, the drink that might as well be a melted Popsicle in a glass bottle.
The food at this place is muy delicioso! You can't beat 69 cent tacos at 1 in the morning. My friends and I shared a couple plates of chicken tacos, churros with whipped cream, and I went back a couple times for the pickled carrots at the salsa bar. Everything was well seasoned and cooked. The salsa and tortillas tasted homemade. The staff is very friendly too!
I'm almost never in Burien, but if I'm in the south end again, I'll be sure to stop by!
Went with my friend for some dinner last night before our cigar session...
Had four beef tacos again and a chicken quesadilla, it was so delicious and satisfying. They make great salsas for your tacos and nachos. Our server and cashier was very friendly and nice and I can't wait to go back for more...I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

Took a vacation day from work last Friday and one of my friend's took me here for lunch. My friend… Read more »
La Estación is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Washington State. It's worth the drive. I am a fan of thick corn crust (masa) and thick tortillas. I love their gorditas and huaraches; and the Birria and Pollo Asado (which come with the thick tortillas). They grill the pollo
If you want tacos, I recommend: lamb birria, chicken tinga, and lengua (tongue). All of those are very moist and they will add a delicious juiciness to your tacos. Tacos are small but meaty so you need about 4 if you are not ordering anything else.
Their only two non-meat dises are the"rajas" (stir fry of roasted chiles and onion) and the stuffed nopal, a stuffed cactus leaf. I recommend the nopal dish.
yum!!! hole in the wall, very nice people and just comfortable setting eating delicious mexican food.
we ordered the tinga, carne asada and a chorizo quesadilla. my favorite was the tinga - slowed cooked porked in a tomato base sauce, refried beans and rice. wrap it all up in the best fresh corn tortilla... YUM!!!
i know in some of the previous reviews people were getting food here past midnight... the appointed opening hours says 10 - 10 (or something like that). maybe there is special hours for their favorite customers :D
i'm coming back again for more!!!
Rockin Mexican Food, at a fraction of the price.
What to eat? Gotta go for the pork adobo tacos! These tacos are stuffed with meat and cilantro, and put the green and red hot sauce on it, and you got a meal.
The pickled radishes and Jalapenos add finshing touches to the meal.
Delicioso!! Really, if you experience this place, you have to say adios to Mexican restaurants in Seattle and you gotta drive to all the way to Burien to have the real stuff.
Their huge fajitas, grilled chicken, and their tortillas are super super delicioso (okay, I only know few words in Spanish and delicioso is one of them if I was spelling it right). I haven't had okay food there. Everything you eat makes you go mmmmm...... I want more per favor!!
This is the best inexpensive Mexican food you can find in the Seattle area. To begin with, Estacion uses deliciously spiced, well-prepared meat. This alone sets it apart from most of the competition. They have a couple of harder to come by offerings like birria, and chicken tinga. You'll also find incredible grilled chicken, addictive tortas, delicious lamb-broth soup, and perhaps most impressive, a massive parrillada, complete with nopal.
The salsa is also worth mentioning. As with many places, there are basically two: red and green (sometimes there might be another if you request it). The red is flavorful but not overly hot. The green is hot. And very, very good. Just thinking about it, I want to make the 15 minute trip to Burien.
Essentially, almost everything here is better than you'll find anywhere else around Seattle.
Walking in, you know from the peeps already seated you are somewhere that serves the traditional (authentic) stuff....it can be a little intimidating but you'll find that everyone's just there to enjoy some REAL Mexican food.
Think corn tortillas...radishes....HOT salsa....lots of cilantro....and cheap! :0)
My favorite is the carne asada tacos. Go to the salsa bar, get yourself some limes, verde salsa and some radishes, then sit with your five tacos and enjoy! You can also get it to go which involves the food being put on a paper plate and covered with tin foil! Good to go.
The only thing missing is a drive thru! Can we get a Taqueria with a drive thru in Burien please???
BEST mexican food in seattle!!!! I've tried so many mexican restaurants in seattle, this is the one. It's kinda far, but think about the food that you are going to eat.
Not like other places, tacos are filled with meat, onion, cilantro and cheap. Quesadilla is good, too. My all time favorite "CARNE ASADA". they cook the meat perfect, it comes with salad, spicy sausage, onion, and jalapino with cheese inside. one big dish!! my boy friend likes pollo. they cook it outside, and that smells GOOD!
just go and try. you will go back there again.
Decided to take a break from my favorite tacqueria on Ambaum, El Reconsita - down the street on the opposite side. The service was very good - surprisingly - the owner came out and replenished our tortilla chips while we were waiting for our order to be ready. The two sauces you get for the chips were great - I liked the green Serrano sauce the best - a bit spicy, but with so much flavor. The tacos were about what I've come to expect from a tacqueria - small but very flavorful and simple. The lamb gordita I ordered is the reason I will be coming back to this place soon. It was the first time I have ever had this, and it was amazing - expecially with some of the serrano sauce thrown in. One thing they don't have here that I wish they did is a self serve mexican condiment station the way El Reconsita does. However, that is a minor drawback, as the quality of the food makes up for this. The funny thing is, the last time I was here was literally twenty-five years ago when this place was a Taco Bell! What an improvement this tacqueria is over the "steak fajita" I ordered at taco bell all those years ago. ( I can't believe I remember what I ordered then, but I do). Also, there was a guitar player performing which added to the ambience. If you like authentic Mexican food, make it a point to go to Taqueria La Estacion.
Oh, Ohh...YUM...Words fail me.
JUST KIDDING!!!
(Jerrod, if you're reading this, skip it...it will only upset you)
OMG...I had to take some time, calm down and chill out.
First of all, I walk in, all intimidated, since I don't speak a speck 'O Spanish. There's this hunky, handsome guy with the most melting, chocolate brown eyes and sweet smile at the counter. I'm sketching over the photo menu, miserably worried since he's put his phone call on hold to patiently wait for me. I flash him the sorry, he flashes me the encouraging. Now, this is important to the story, or I wouldn't include it, but my parents raised beef cattle. So I know probably more than anyone should about all the many parts of an animal (and oh, the amount of liver on one cow, it's obscene!) While not yet adventurous enough to try a few of the listed items, I settled on the pollo and one Lengua taco. Start small, ya know, and "Lengua" is a tender, flavorful childhood favorite seldom enjoyed since. Go ahead and Ewww, you guys, don't knock it. WELL. I go outside with my book, seat myself comfy at a small, umbrella'd table next to the whiz and fume of Ambaum. Couple minutes later, Dreamboat arrives and slips me the tongue...oh, people. Rich, sweet, tender and capably spiced, flavorful meat on small, irregular, Ho'made tasting corn tortillas...Truly, words are failing me. The pollo...well, that was my safety net, and it was good but exactly what you would expect. BUT!! THE!! SAUCES!!! Ok, here's another spot where I show my ignorance. My favorite - the sauce I'm going to taste in my dreams - I don't know what it's called or what it is, but it tastes like, it tastes like, jeez this is embarrassing...it tastes like you took guacamole and hummus, whirled it in a blender and added some HELLA HELLA devious, sneaky, wicked spice. In the best possible way. You taste it immediately, but then, after 2 minutes, it REALLY sneaks up on you and POW! My tongue...or is it my tongues? ;) my tastebuds were all aflutter, sparks shooting up my sinuses, my throat felt like if I opened my mouth and sang, I would be channeling Janis Joplin. (I didn't try it, though). Now, ordinarily, I'm not accustomed to FEELING my esophagus. But it was right there, channeling fire into my happy belly. If this sounds painful, it WASN'T. I'm so inspired now, I want to go back and delete all my lukewarm, insipid reviews. I didn't even care that people were staring at me copiously blowing my nose. I'm going back...and from now on, I'm just going to ask Handsome to "give me a surprise". When I brought my empty plate back, I nearly kissed him...so I think he knows I'll trustingly chomp whatever he serves me. (Jeez, does that sound too sexy? It's the food. Although he IS handsome. I only mean the food.) This is my new favorite place. I'll be happily burping the rest of the afternoon. I can't stop smiling.
Its hard for me to admit that Muy Macho has a serious competitor, but they do now. La Estacion is one of those places you walk into and are a bit intimidated if you are a juerito....but regardless you will feel welcomed and at home. They serve Birria!! Which is not that common and I was so excited to see...My husband always gets the Carne Asada plate which comes with some delightful surprises, and the aquas fresca are perfect for washing down that hot salsa....or you can get a Mexican Coca Cola in the OG glass bottles. It reminds me of the many nights I partied in TJ...I love this freakin place!
Very good, authentic cuisine. I would particularly recommend the pork tinga, and the lamb burria (be sure to get the bowl of steaming hot consomme with it). The guys there are really friendly, sometimes the waitresses are a little shy if they have very little English. Can be very crowded especially on Sundays. You will love it.
