Review from Danny P.
You know how New Yorkers like to say if it's not New York, it's crap? Well, I've learned after Taqueria Cancun that there are some things we just don't do as well as the rest of the country.*
The burrito here is the primary reason to go, and it's delicious and gigantic and everything that Chipotle** will never be. The tortilla is toasted just perfectly so that the first bite is crispy and crunchy, and by the time you're done the tortilla is the perfect amount of soggy from the juices from the meat. I'd suggest you cut it in half, or just cram the whole thing into your face like I did.
Your burrito also comes with chips and a small amount of salsa, unless you're like me and didn't know that and ordered an extra chips and salsa. With a soda, I still got out for under $10 which is fantastic.
For out of towners, when you go into the store, walk past the first station and find the cash register -- they'll take your order there. It's cash only, but not too expensive so you should be fine there.
Also, seating is at communal tables, so if it looks crowded send everyone to go sit at a table and let one person order for everyone.
* - The others are barbeque and free refills on soda.
** - Don't worry, I still love you, Chipotle.Listed in: A San Francisco Treat

I like how this place cook/ grill the tortilla.
I got a veggie burrito that was delicious.
I know my SIL and brother like coming here because this taqueria makes vegetarian/ vegan friendly food....and my that I mean, I guess their quaility of ingredients and flavoring is better than other places they have tried.
I have been here a couple times...one of these days I will try their carnitas and carne. The guy at the register recommended carne, so maybe carne it is...next time! -

Oh heck, yuh-esssss.. This is MY spot for Mexican food when I visit my family in The Mission. It's right by my old house (19th Street).
I absolutely love their vegetarian burrito. They use fresh ingredients and it makes it all the difference. My Dad usually gets the carne asada or carnitas burrito. We pretty much all love this taqueria and visit it whenever we make it back to The Mission. -

In the second installment of The Mission Burrito Experiment, I visited Taqueria Cancún. As mentioned previously, I was new to the Mission burrito scene and needed to decide if I like Mission burritos or not by visiting a few of the burrito joints in the Mission.
So, I got my standard burrito; carne asada, pinto beans, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, no rice. This was definitely a step up from El Faralito. It had the same flavors, but everything tasted better together. So I've identified the flavor profile of a Mission burrito (did I really just say "flavor profile" in a review? gag). While it's not what I'm used to, nor is it the best burrito I've ever had, I'm still going to go ahead with my mission (ha!). Stay tuned for the next installment of The Mission Burrito Experiment! -

Had the torta al pastor. The sandwich didn't have enough meat to fill the bread so you got mostly bread in each bite. Also had a burrito al pastor, but their marinated pork was just ok for me. I've had better versions.
Salsas were nice and spicy, but they only give you tiny cups. Chips are store bought.Listed in: Taquerias, SF Mission District

The Yelp descriptor for three stars is A-OK. And that's what Taqueria Cancun in - A-OK. Definitely not "Yay! I'm a fan", and certainly not "Woohoo! As good as it gets!". It's just okay.
The only reason I wound up here and not El Farolito during a recent late night hunt for food is that El Farolito's line was out the door and probably about 50-60 people deep. My friends and I were too drunk, too hungry, and too cranky as a result of being drunk and hungry to wait for food. My friend recommended Cancun as a worthy substitute, so we stumbled a bit down the street.
As we were waiting in line, a transgender homeless person sashayed in and started dancing near some of the tables. One of the workers screamed at her to get out, and she did, only to return ten minutes later to start the process all over again. This was entertaining, because I was drunk, and put me in a good mood for my food.
Fifteen minutes later I had a quesadilla suiza and an el pastor super burrito in my grubby, drunken hands. I'm sure I need to revisit Cancun later to accurately gauge how good it was, but as near as I can remember the quesadilla was just a bit less flavorful than its Farolito counterpart, and the al pastor was overly sweet for my tastes.
Nevertheless, I had no hangover the next day, which means the food did its job. -

Oh taqueria cancun! It's funny that I'm writing this review the day after I booked an all-inclusive trip to CANCUN!! This is my go-to spot for mexican in SF better than El Farolito, Papalote etc. I haven't found better in SF. Everything here is delicious and even my vegetarian friends (I won't name names...) LOVE the veggie burritos. Veggie burritos with rave reviews?! they must be doing it right.
I could eat this 5 days a week and die a happy man! -

Donde esta la horchata y donde esta mas salsa??
They don't serve horchata here. There's no salsa bar either, you have to ask for more salsa at the counter if you're dining in and want more. When you dine, the guys bring you water and your order, they don't really come around and cater to you, its a pretty informal atmosphere. I don't mind getting up a few times for more 1-oz size of salsa but I do mind that there's no horchata. Bummer. I really was craving it.
I think I've finally found the closest thing to a San Diego burrito in SF. What I like about the carnitas and carne asada burritos here is how juicy and tender the meat is; the carne aside is cut up into tiny pieces- something I've never experience anywhere, not dry, very tasty. Although they skimp on the salsa and chips, they make it all up in their burritos. These burritos are BIG with the right amounts of each ingredient, loads of guacamole line the tortilla, lots of guac and salsa are mandatory in my Mexican food. I was only able to eat half.
This place is in the mission and I would've had a more pleasant experience if it weren't for the bum coming in half a dozen times, yelling something, getting kicked out, coming back in, yelling something again, getting kicked out, he finally came back and changed it up- suddenly a liquor bottle appeared in his hand which he proceeded to guzzled down. It was like a creepy magic show desperate for applause or any kind of credit. Props to the guys in the kitchen for keeping their cool and pushing him out every single time he came in. Trying to eat with a screaming bum in front of your table is intense. He deserves THE most annoying bum award. Burritos are amazing here. Drunk bums are wackjobs. -

I came here during a weekend visit to my friend in San Fran (S.F.). Being from New England, I told my friend I wanted the best burrito in San Fran (S.F.) or I was going to pound him. I'm glad he picked this place!
Got the Super Burrito with a mix of Carne Asada and Carnitas. My friend(let's just call him Dan) had no idea you could get two meats in one burrito. I told him he's an idiot and that he should be doing that from now on.
YOU GET MORE MEAT IF YOU DO IT THAT WAY! not much more, but a little bit more......
anyways, this was awesome as I got the best of both worlds (beef and pork) in one burrito . It was Excellent. The best burrito I've ever had.
The green sauce they give with the chips is awesome, I wish I got that in my burrito.
I wanted to bring a burrito back on the plan with me, but I didn't think the FAA would let me because the bombs I dropped after eating one would endanger the welfare of the passengers. -
Review from Amanda F.
The first time I came here, it was almost 2 in the morning, I'd had a ROUGH night and this was, seriously, the best food I've ever tasted. Like, how wide can I open my mouth to get this burrito in as quickly as possible, best food.
And while my subsequent (sober) visits to TC have served to somewhat disillusion me, it's good, cheap Mexican fare. I doubt I'll have a Cancun visit that was quite as magical as that first trip, but it's the kind of food that warms your tummy while you sit down on a Sunday night and catch up on emails. That sets you back $6 for a beer and a dinner you can't finish. That requires you to carry half a burrito in your purse for the rest of the day while you walk around the Mission after stopping here for lunch.
And, as far as I'm concerned, any place that allows me to positively feast with the cash I have in my coat pocket at the tail end of a brutal Saturday night, or that can half-live up to my drunken fantastical expectations is pretty darn good in my book.
(I have never been to actual Cancun) -

This used to be hands down my favorite burrito place when I lived in SF. The veggie burrito was a staple of my diet and living on 18th & Valencia I could choose any restaurant yet this was always my first choice. Since moving away I try to visit once a year and stop in here and unfortunately I was not as blown away by the burritos. Ironically the chips were yummier than I recalled as I seem to remember I didn't even eat them years ago.
Hard to nail down what was different about the burrito - perhaps the tortilla wasn't cooked quite as much as usual, maybe the guac wasn't as fresh or there was less cilantro but whatever it was the burritos felt off - so I strayed seeking a better burrito. However I will always come here when I am in town hoping that the magic returns and I can raise this to 5 stars. -

Taqueria Cancun is one of my favorite late night spots in San Francisco. It is in the Mission (many of the best restaurants are!) and very convenient to nightlife haunts.
The food is cheap for SF standards and absolutely delicious. Especially when you are drunk (which I admit is the only way I have ever gone... I am not even sure if it is open before midnight...?) and in need of greasy-good carbs. My favorite is the super quesadilla or nachos. The only thing that leaves something to be desired is the guac. It is basically just water with some avacado - but hey! What do you expect.
It can get crowded but the line moves quickly. Make sure you tip the hardworking staff who are giving up their weekend late nights to serve a drunk crowd. -

I am a El Farolito Addict! I would choose their burrito over any other, BUT Taqueria Cancun was closer to me so I've been going there and it has grown on me. All I have to say is get a Steak and Shrimp Super burrito, Trust! My friend made it up and it is GOOD!

My Dad loves burritos and dealing with me his whole life he deserves the best F!#$!%^& burrito EVER.
I yelped this bad boy and KABLAMO the yelp community did not fail me.
The burritos warm buttery flour tortilla tickles your "situation". The hot delicious carne asada, mixed in with the fresh ingredients that were planted with a pinch of Dumbledor's Magic and a Chuck Norris's front kick, give this my friends the best burrito I HAVE EVER TASTED.
I may stand corrected but I have had my share of burritos. Burritos that are messy and fall to pieces. Burritos that are lop sided and just stupid. Rice that looks like a clump of soggy wet napkins. Beans that are gross and made you feel better you that you pooped them out.
I love this burrito! -

Last week you made me my special vegan tacos... just black beans salsa and avo... And they were good...real good.
No I prefer hot salsa..really....yes really I do. Last night I was a little afraid to ask for more vegan tacos because you seemed...not yourself. So I ordered the chicken. Now chicken tacos are usually pretty tasty but the chix seemed a little dry or old... and coronas $3.75 or $4.00 at the other local. I never considered myself dry but I feel like im being forced into it a little. That's a bit steep for a bottle of peepee no? The food is decent but the over-inflation of beer prices has just rubbed me the wrong way, and that ain't cool amigo. It just ain't cool. -

Wow. The tortas at Taqueria Cancún are, hands down, the best that I've ever tasted. I thought 6 bucks was a little pricey, but after the first bite I realized that I actually had gotten a bargain. That's a torta I'd be willing to go out of my way for.

This place is really good. Very authentic. We saw a long line so that means it's good. I ordered a super taco and my bf got a super burrito. It came with a side of salsa and chips. The salsa is SUPER spicy. I can't resist salsa so I took it like a man. My taco was huge. Meat was over flowing out. If you are a girl, 1 super taco will do and it's like 3 bucks!

Everyone has their favorite taqueria in the Mission, and this is mine by far. Where to begin? Every ingredient of their tacos and burriots are high quality and done right -- the meat is excellent, the tortillas, tacos, rice, and beans are cooked just right, the cheese is perfect, and the vegetables are fresh. After a long day at work, there's nothing that cheers me up like this place.
Tip: instead of getting the super burrito (which is awesome), get two super tacos. Roughly the same amount of food for the same price, but less rice and more yummy avocado/sour cream-y goodness. -
Review from Amy J.
The burritos here are super cheap. Cheaper than a lot of taquerias in the area. They also stay open pretty late so if you have a craving for some tasty Mexican food, you'll want to stop here.
I ordered a grilled chicken burrito. It had a bit of a kick to it. Service was fast even on a busy Monday night.
The regular size is just about right for me. -

My husband and I moved to the Mission about 6 months ago and we have been on the hunt for a taquiera that we both agree on. Every place seems to have a few things that each of us like, but we've still been searching.
Taquiera Cancún definitely got us a few steps closer to finding "our place." This might even be it - we'll know for sure next time we want Mexican food - if we immediately think of this place or continue our hunt.
I got the super nachos with carne asada and he got a carne asada taco and a carnitas burrito. The carne asada is delicious and tender. The carnitas were good too - but the carne asada was so good that we kept wanting more of that. The horchata was great too - I love when it has authentic texture.
I definitely recommend this place. They are always open late and the staff was fast considering how busy they were in there.
Yum. Maybe we'll go for lunch today. :) -

=( no more carnitas. Fine, I'll have the carne asada burrito.
More meat please! Otherwise, it was a decent burrito, nothing great.
I won't be making any special trips to SF to visit this place. -

Third visit to Taqueria Cancun this weekend. This is no frills, nothing fancy, just delicious and authentic Mexican food.
I usually get 2 super tacos and they automatically give you chips and salsa (the salsa is spicy, even the green one - consider yourself warned). It can sometimes be hard to find seating, and they don't come by and clean the tables very often so you might have to shove trash from the people before you out of the way.
They are cash only which is a pain sometimes and parking is usually a disaster, but the food here is just so good I keep coming back. -

I've been slowly making my way through the taquerias in the Mission . . . Taqueria Cancun was next on my list and i had heard great things about it. I had a carne asada super burrito with everything on it. I just have to have sour cream, guac/avocado, and cheese - the good stuff! Their regular burrito only comes with meat, rice, beans, and onions. It's not too expensive in the first place so I wouldn't fret about having to order the higher priced burrito anyways. For less than 7 bucks i had a large burrito packed with delicious carne asada. Every order comes with chips and salad. Woohoo!
Good, but doesn't beat El Farolito. -

JESUS CHRIST WHERE DO I BEGIN?
Now that I live abroad,I have dreams about the vegetarian burrito with black beans. It is hands down, the best veggie burrito I have ever tasted. I really like the communal seating too.
I miss living in the Mission just because I could roll out of bed and come here, or hit it up before or after a night of partying. I would eat here several times a week!
Needless to say, whenever I come back for a visit, I go to Cancun religiously. The chips aren't that great, but the spicy salsa verde is to die for. The horchata is pretty tasty as well.
Cheap, greasy, fast, delicious, and friendly service. What else could you ask for? -

Damn i get to be the jerk that gives this place a so so review. I really wanted to jump on the band wagon and give it 4 or 5 stars but I cannot and almost gave it 2 stars. First and foremost i love Mexican food especially Burritos, I can honestly say it is my favoritest food in the whole wide world( yea i said favoritest). I have been to a million different places similar to Taq Cancun whether it was in SF, L.A., San Diego or Mexico and enjoyed it . The carne asada burrito i ordered was one of the worst i have ever eaten. It was very bland, lacked any kind of flavor and was nothing but filler. I watched the guy make my burrito and though it was a bean and rice burrito for someone else. Don't believe me, it had 2-3 scoops of rice, 2 scoops of beans and 1 full scoop of carne. I also asked and paid for guacamole and got a 2 slices of avocado instead thanks. I seriously only ate half of my burrito and threw the other half away and left very disappointed.
Now on to the good, i think there salsa verde was very good and went well with the chips they serve (but it could not save my burrito). It had that little kick i enjoy in good salsa. The chips you get when you eat here were decent nothing special but enjoyed with the tasty salsa. Taqueria Cancun offers many different types of beverages for you to enjoy including beer. I went with the Sidral Mundet Apple Soda cause i love it.
If i ever come back again i will order a bean and rice burrito and hope they fill it with carne asada and guacamole ...maybe I'll just go with the tacos my friend said were delicious or just walk a block to the next place and hope for the best. -

Super cheap, super tasty.
You pay $5 or $6 and you get a gigantic burrito with chips and a few salsas. You have to handle this bad boy with two hands.
Ironically, I ordered a Vegetarian Burrito with no cheese and no sour cream (because I'm one of those annoying vegan types), and then I ordered a Super Burrito with lengua for my omnivorous dining companion.
FYI, lengua is beef tongue. She told me she'd always wanted to try it, so why not?
The staff were all super friendly and even tried to teach me some basic Spanish at the register. I played dumb, even though I frequently speak Español at my restaurant job. ;)
One minor complaint: I could have used a few more containers of salsa, but I didn't want to bother them for more. That's just me. I'm picky, I like to drown my burritos in the stuff.
The pico de gallo and salsa verde are both AMAZING. Definitely on the spicy side, so they're not for the faint of heart.
If you don't mind walking past a few vagrants and prostitutes on your way back to the BART station, go for it. -

Delicious!
Tacos were amazing (though, I'll confess: I had to use a fork).
The beers hit the spot, and the ambiance was just what I needed (lively, casual, communal, completely unpretentious).
One of these days I'll get around to ordering a burrito ... I'm still intimidated by its size. But they looked great! -

Came here last night with some friends after the Dia De Los Muertos celebration in the mission. We walked our ass' to this place since my friend said it was the best place plus all the other places were packed!
Its very cozy inside especially when its busy and you're waiting in line to order. We took our food to go. It was a good burrito. I love how they gives you chips with every order not every mexican restaurant does that.

Amazing Taqueria! Overall Carne Asada Burrito and a Sol Beer for $9.49 with a side of chips.
The burrito was well put together - had the right mixture of rice, beans, and meat. It was pretty filling without being overwhelming like other burritos. One of the better burrito's I have had in San Francisco in awhile.
Cash only was the only drawback. -

4-4.5 stars for inexpensive tacos in a very casual & fun setting. Note that I have no idea how this taqueria compares with other taquerias in the area, but coming from Boston, these tacos were fantastic! :)
For $6, I ordered two tacos (one with carne asada and the other with carnitas) and a cantaloupe aqua fresca and received a complimentary basket of chips with salsa. Everything is served in plastic baskets and the seating looks like picnic benches -- definitely not a fancy date spot if that's what you're looking for :)
I would definitely recommend this place over La Taqueria for tacos! -
