6 reviews for Taqueria Burrito Loco
All you Tacoma folk! Before you head to the drive-thru or hit up the local francise...try TAQUERIA BURRITO LOCO!
It's nestled nonchalantly in a lack luster strip mall right on 56th, a high traffic street! Don't let it's modest appearance turn you away from amazing, authentic mexican cuisine!
But what reallllly makes this down home spot such a gem is the family that owns it. Since we're regulars we've come to get to know this family. they're such genuine, delightful people who appreciate every customer.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR by eating a meal cooked with care and passion, and PLEASE do this family a favor in a time of economic downturn.

I stumbled upon this place here on Yelp today and wanted a fish taco....so off we went! I thought with all 5 star reviews it must be good.
The man went to order take out. Fish taco meal for me, carne asada for him and a enchilada meal for the kids.
Fish taco came with 3 corn tortilla tacos with rice, beans and also lettuce, tomato, onions and avocado. The fish thankfully was not fried and tasted fresh. I have to admit....I was really looking forward to Cali style with cabbage and white sauce...no luck, just lime wedges.
Carne Asada was a full meal as well. The meat was tender, but fairly mild in flavor...I was expecting more spices, but it was good.
Enchiladas were very good and full of meat with a rich enchilada sauce.
I am interested in trying other dishes that they serve. The prices are very reasonable. Our bill came to $30 with three full meals, two (odd) aloe juices (for the kids) and a bottle of hot sauce. Not too bad in my book!
FYI: There is a BOGO in the entertainment book.
Hooray! A Google search turned up a Dim Sum restaurant in University Place which was closed and turned out to be not all I'd hoped for, anyway. Drawn into the shopping center that Burrito Loco is in by the African cafe in it (which was also closed) I decided that crazy-ass Mexican food was, in fact, just about perfect. I've had so many bad experiences with Mexican food in Washington, even at so-called taquerias, that I was apprehensive. It's clean and well-lit and pretty empty on Sunday early in the day, and at first glance they seem to have a lot of plates of food that would set off anyone's "Family Mexican Approaching" alarms.
Thankfully, I was mistaken. Like so many taquerias in the Bay Area, they do have a number of plate dishes, but what you really want are the tacos. Basically perfectly-prepared and presented, all that I tried were good, though the picadillo was a little underwheling compared to their carne asada and campechanos. The campechanos were as good as homemade (or at least as good as I can make at home) and the carne asada, though not quite in the style one might expect in California, was fantastic -- unctuous and savory and soft.
And, thank God, the tacos came with radishes. It's about time, Washington!
Five stars because it's certainly as good as it gets in the area, even if you can get a better taco a few hundred miles away. But seriously, these people care about their food and are friendly and outgoing. Just a delightful little place with fantastic food.
Yum.
I'd try to write more and be more original, but my fellow yelpers really have covered it. The food's good -- the best Mexican we've found here in Western WA. The prices are cheap -- we splurged and the bill came to just over $20 for dinner. The service is nice -- it's really cool to overhear, in spanish (yay for me knowing a 2nd language), the folks behind the counter talking about *being nice* to us On top of that, everyone there seemed to genuinely care that we were happy with our food. How cool is that?
This was a good find. It's just a small family owned place that moved into an empty space. It's on my way to work so I had to give it a try. Boy am I I glad I did. The aromas from the kitchen alone are worth stopping by for. I ate lunch there yesterday and went back for takeout dinner tonight. The atmosphere is simple, nice and clean but this place is about the food. Some Mexican places put their art on the wall; this one serves it on a platter. This little Mexican place is meant for your olifactory senses and your taste buds. The food is authentic and colorfull; definitely worth a try.
This is a new "hole in the wall" in a strip mall at the corner of Cirque and Orchard in University Place, bordering Tacoma. It is the best you can get in the area - this, from a gal who was born and raised in Los Angeles and hung out in Oakland's Fruitvale district before moving to Tacoma. I am real picky about Mexican food. This place brings back memories of my experiences in Mexico and California. Fresh fresh, juicy and flavorful meats, to-die-for beans and rice, and bountiful portions at darn good prices. The friendliest service from mom and pop and the kids, too. Ya gotta know it's the real stuff when, every time I've gone there for a buck fifty taco, most of the customers are Latinos - a good sign of authentic cooking.
