I felt like I stepped in to some cool 90's movie going in to this record store.
I was walking by and noticed people looking through old records. I thought cool, and went inside. The place has a nice collection of used tapes, CDs, DVDs, records and VHS tapes. There's a sign that read, buy it today because tomorrow it might not be here. The people behind the desk were kind of staring in a bored way. I was wondering why there were so many of them lined up sitting on stools. I think they had incognito muscle working the floor but I'm not sure. He at least smiled when I came near.
If you're looking for some records for a record player I'd check it out. Looking is free. The records were $3 - $8 dollars, for the ones I saw. They also buy cds/vhs so if you have some you want to sell, I'd try this place.
Yelpers, you are not on your job! The Tape and record room is a Long Beach institution, at least in Downtown it is.
This is the first place that I ever bought a used CD. This is the first place I bought a used VHS, and all this before EBay was a twinkle in it's founders eye.
Listen, I am not telling you to shop here, but I think that you should at least visit it. The people that work here are fairly rude and the new CD prices are astronomical. The store is has an irremovable layer of crud, and the porn section in the back, seems to be growing ever larger.
Wait, that doesn't really sound like an advertisement. It is though, like a backhanded compliment is still a compliment.
Does that make sense?
Back in the day (early 90's), when I was just starting my massive music collection, I used to come here often. it was halfway between work and home, and they had a vast collection of CDs and tapes and videos. Unfortunately, they did not keep up with the times. They downsized and did not expand their DVD collection. After the fifth time I left empty-handed, I stopped going. Recently I began working downtown again, and I stopped in again to check things out. They have gotten even smaller and dingier so I walked right out. Yesterday I passed by en route to lunch and saw their Going Out of Business banner. So sad.
