Bronx, NY
This is my favorite Spanish restaurant! We travel from the Bronx to have the best Paella I've ever had in NY or NJ. Their Paella is the closest tasting to the one we had in Barcelona. They make it in a Paella pan like your suppose to so the rice is a little soupy but firm . A lot of restaurants make Paella in not a caldero which drys out the rice. The prices are good we order one Paella about $20 feeds two people and the clams in green sauce (about $9), it's fantastic! They also offer a free soup starter chicken noodle or caldo gallego with your dinner which is also very tasty.
It can get pretty busy on the weekends so we go for a late lunch early dinner around 3 or 4 pm and and miss the crowds. Works for us! This is real "Spanish Food" not Latin American food just read the menu it's authentic. GO you'll love it! -

EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Bittersweet feeling after checking this place out....mind you, I am one of the only 'English Speaking First' types in the area so perhaps I walked in with a target on my head....but here it goes...
Pros:
-Most of the food was good, tasty, well done
-Nice ambience
Cons:
-BAD Service
-Took 30-35 minutes after we ordered to get us our 5 tapas we ordered...no wonder the food was COLD
-If you speak English, don't even think about having a conversation with waiter
-50% of food came out COLD, yes, COLD
-Once we made note to the waiter and manager that the food was cold, they didn't come back to our table AT ALL for the rest of the night and pretty much ignored us...didn't offer to take anything off the bill, just took what was left of the food and "reheated" it....no thanks buddy
-Manager is not very good at his job or good at the expectations of management--in case he is wondering: your job is to smooth over anything that goes wrong, you should revisit table after problem has been fixed, be sure to give extra CARE to anyone who makes a request/complaint about the food, waiter etc.....that's your job pal!
-Waiter had NO CLUE about wine list...told us he liked "the beers better", when asked what they had he said "uhhhhhh heinekennnnnnnn, miller liteeeeeee, coronaaaaa, coronaaaaa light"....come on buddy! if you have a wine list, why don't you try the stuff on it and try to sell us on something? You like the beers? WOW!
I wish it was a better experience, I would probably try it again but the first time around left a LOT to be desired by the wait staff, management and food preparation. -

Oh, Tapas. This is one of those local, "go-to" places that I've been to a bunch of times but never bothered to Yelp... so... here we are.
I'll pretty much be reiterating what everybody else here said, so don't say I didn't warn you:
- The sangria here is a world of YES. It's made the right way, with fruit that's been soaking in brandy and other goodness (unlike that of my other local haunt, Las Palmas). Red or white, it's all delicious (though I, usually a white drinker, prefer the red).
- Major points for ambiance -- Tapas easily has my favorite bar atmosphere of any local place. Exposed brick, terra cotta, dim lighting, enjoyable music... I dig it.
- The food is good. Some items avoidable (beware the sometimes overcooked shrimp in the gambas al ajillo, which makes me sad because anything al ajillo is generally my friend), some pretty bangin' (Hello, potato! Greetings, pulpo!)... free soup is always a bonus, no? The tapas range from meh to rockin'... I'd say check out other tables, and whatever's disappearing the the plates most quickly will be your best bet that evening.
All in all, if you're not feeling the trek into NYC, roll over to Tapas - it's an easy solve, and sure to hit the spot (or at least close to it!). -

Good food, prices, atmosphere.
Gets too busy Thurs, Fri, Sat. good luck getting a table.
Sun - Wed it is a great place to meet with friends for a bite with moderate background music/noise. -

Place is a little expensive for my taste but it is certainly worth it. The flavors are great, service is great and their sangria is amazing!!!
If you're looking for a signature dish it's definitely the paella....mmmmmmm...good.
If you're ordering take-out you won't be disappointed....they give you a pretty big portion of food to enjoy at home.
Overall, great place to be if you bring enough money. -

This is what I'm talking about! Hudson County has some real gems and this is one of the. People get a little dressed up, the restaurant is spotless, there's a stage, nice bar, white table clothe tables and more waiters than you can shake a stick at.
The food is excellent. Big portions, fresh and in my humble opinion more Spanish-Latino-American than European Spanish. The sangria is excellent and bit fizzy, which I like. House wines are good. Everyone gets soup. Service is excellent. And the price is right.
And it's on the park! -

I miss this place soooooooo much. We moved away from this area about a year ago and I want to go back NOW!!!! Their sangria is better than any we have had anyplace and the mojitios are sooooo amazing. Then the tapas are sooooo good. Missed the grilled calamari and so many other things. Wish I could come back just for dinner!

I don't have much to say about this place. It is overpriced and the tapas are not well thought taste combinations like you might find in better tapas bars. But they weren't bad tasting. The atmosphere was really low lit and the service was meh.

I've wanted to go here for the longest time and we just kept forgetting about it until now.
It was fabulous from the moment we entered. We arrived about 7:45p with the expectation of waiting and surprisingly we were seated immediately.
The best sangria (white) ever - there was WINE in it!!! And it was so tasteful. (OK so sometimes places water it down - not here!)
The food was delicious. My husband accepted the soup, I did have a taste and it was rather good, never had asparagus soup before. We started off with the cheese platter (which was worth it). Then the plates started coming: Gambas a la plancha (grilled shrimp), esparragas navarros and the remarkable patatas alioii (the sauce is AWESOME). And the tres leche is worthy! There is a lot to choose from. Enough to make seafood lovers, meat eaters and vegetarians want to keep coming back for more. -

If you have gone to a legitimate tapas places and there are so many to choose from in Manhattan, then you know this place looks legitimate but their food is neither authentic nor impressive.
Pros: Drinks are very good. Sangria (red or white) to mojitos to martinis. Paella is good as well. Good portion to share with people as Paella should be but sometimes it is very salty, too salty.
Good servers and they are very attentive.
Cons: Their tapas are nothing to write home about. Some of them sounds very enticing but they never deliver. On the weekends, especially at nights, be prepared to wait for a long time.
Conclusion: This is sort of local place. The crowd, etc. If you live in north jersey and really don't feel like to go to Manhattan but you MUST have some "tapas" then I guess this place is just OK at best. -

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE TAPAS!! I went all around Spain, and the food here is not only authentic, but better than many tapas bars in the homeland. I give it four stars mainly because I feel some things are a bit overpriced. But that does not keep me from coming back again and again. I love the sangria. I love the ambiance. I love the food. Certain Friday nights, they have live music and Flamenco dancing which is just what I need to feel like I'm far, far away from the Dirty Jerz. I love to immerse myself in my culture, and this is the place to do it. The staff is fluent in Spanish, and will even help you with yours! They are always so sweet and they definitely go the extra mile to make you feel at home. Whatever you do, do not leave without having some DATILES. You will thank me for it later. It gets very, very packed on the weekends, so make reservations if you have a large party. Or just sit at the bar. Either way, its a great time.

Philadelphia, PA
I arrived with a large party on a Saturday and we didnt make reservations, but we were seated within 30 minutes. The dark brick interior gave me the feeling I was returning to a taverna in Segovia. It was a lively scene: peninsular hits like La Oreja de Van Gogh were coming out of the speakers.
Each of us ordered something from the tapas menu. We ordered two pitchers of sangria as beverage. We also inquired about the paella and were informed that it serves two people.
Within minutes, a server comes around ladling caldo de fabas (a white bean soup) into our bowls. I didnt realize that this was part of the treatment -- had I known that earlier, I would have suggested we not order as many tapas. However, it was a welcome "primer plato" as we had just come inside from a brisk early evening walk around the neighborhood while waiting for our reservation time.
While I would not have ordered sangria on a particularly cold night, the rest of the party wanted it and I acquiesced. There was a pithy amount of cut citrus in the pitcher and I found myself asking, "Wheres the fruit?"
The tapas came out. I found the food to be a bit salty, especially the pequillos rellenos (stuffed peppers) and pulpo (octopus).
As for the paella - I was disappointed. First of all, the serving size was enough to feed three (maybe even four) people. BUYER BEWARE. Second, while it was served in traditional paella pans (paelleras), it certainly was not cooked in those pans. How could I tell? If the rice is cooked in those pans and exposed to a heat source, there will inevitably be some slightly burnt rice on the bottom (socarrat). That was not the case. It appeared as if the paella was mass produced in a cauldron which led to a watery mixture. Paella calls for bomba rice. My palette registered a long grain rice that was reminiscent of something from a Goya mix.
Would I return next time Im in that part of New Jersey? I dont think so. -

A lovely little restaurant! It was hoppin', but they had drink specials and scrumptious tapas options. I was there on a holiday and they don't take reservations, which actually worked in our favor. We liked the cheese plate along with the empanadas, and croquettes. Our waiter was attentive, but some of the other staff sometimes gave off a somewhat frantic vibe. It's a great restaurant with a romantic atmosphere. I'd definitely return!

My favorite Tapas place I have been to (and I have been to quite a few). They have a very large list of different Tapas options. Also, It is a very nice restaurant which offers a full menu as well as a tapas selection. The wait staff is very friendly and the portions are perfect. I have been to many pricey tapas restaurants where the portions are so small, it takes away from the whole experience. I visit this place weekly for great drinks and awesome food. I highly recommend it.

Randomly thinking about their batatas alioli (must) reminded me to yelp this place.
The ambiance is perfect for dates, dinners with friends.. The dining area and bar area are separated. The bar area gets crowded on weekend nights but mostly because people are getting drinks while patiently waiting for their tables (sometimes up to an hour, hour half).
Do try batatas mentioned above, avocado salad, churrizo, paella...I've tried too many things to name! And most importantly, try their sangria! I prefer the red over white. Watch out for those apples, they soak those babies long time. -

Review from Jewel Y.
This is one of the better Spanish restaurants in NJ. I've eaten here a couple of times over the past 10 years and I like this place for the reasonable price, the generous portion size, the decent food quality , and the dark and romantic ambiance. I prefer this original restaurant more than its sister restaurant in Englewood, I guess I'm a bit biased because I come here more often. Tonight we came here to celebrate our friend's anniversary, and we were greeted by the celebratory song "cancion de aniversario" by the Spanish musicians in traditional costumes. It's a great place for a group dinner as well as for a romantic date night.
I've tried the following:
1)gambas al ajillo - Ay, que rico! My favorite!!! 5 estrellas!
2) Sopa de ajo - 3.5 stars. It's complimentary so I'm not complaining.
3)pollo al ajillo - Do you see a pattern here? Yes I love garlic!! Vivan los ajos!! 4 stars. It's a bit heavy so I recommend sharing this with someone.
4)paella marinera - 4 stars. Pretty good, definitely better than Calle Ocho(and $9 cheaper too!), but not as authentic nor amazing as Socarrat Paella Bar. It comes with a generous portion of seafood including lobster, clams, mussels, shrimp, and scallops. I recommend sharing this with 3 people. $20.95 for 3 is so cheap!!!! I paid $46 for paella for 2 people at Socarrat.
5) Langosta Rellena - 4.5 stars! This lobster stuffed with crabmeat was the best! Mmmm!!!
Although the food here is not the most refined nor incredible, I still enjoy dining here. Good value for the money, you can find entrees from $13, and the majority of the entrees is under $20. The most expensive dish is $29.95 surf and turf. The food here reminds me of inexpensive casual restaurants in Spain, not too fancy but still delicious. I was so happy that they were playing the songs of my favorite Spanish flamenco rock band "ESTOPA"!! Que guay!!!!! I think this is the first time I've heard their songs being played in the States (outside my home)!!! Fui a la orilla del riiiiiiiiiiiió y vi que estabas muy sooooolaa!

Great atmosphere. Excellent service. Flavorful food. Good value. If you appreciate sangria and like white, it was sweet and you could taste the alcohol. The red sangria was delicious however. After 8 pm, it gets really packed so be sure to arrive earlier if you are starved. I'd definitely go back.

I should have wrote down every appetizer I indulged in because we ordered a lot and there wasn't a single dish I didn't like. The white sangria is also superb.
The tables are, however, ridiculously close together so if you are claustrophobic you might not like this place. But when you are stuffing your face with traditional style tapas goodness it's hard to notice that you are practically sitting on top of each other.
I will definitely come back here since this place is very reasonably priced. -

Brooklyn, NY
I can't vouch for the entrees because there are just way too many fabulous tapas choices on the menu to leave room for an actual meal, especially after the complimentary soup and three or four -- or five -- glasses of the most delicious and amazing white sangria you'll ever have. And with all the perfectly seasoned, flavorful choices on the menu you'll probably have to venture back several times before you can decide on your favorites.
Prices are reasonable (full bellies for 4, including 4 different desserts and the aforementioned sangria masterpiece came to about $91), and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. It can be annoying to try to get to the Bergenline location unless you're from the area, and parking is inconvenient (hence 4 out of 5 stars) but I'll definitely be making the trek back again before summer is over. -

Woohoo, who doesn't like/love tapas, seriously?
This place was pretty good! They have a huge variety of tapas to choose from. A full two page menu and a small menu w/special tapas and entrees of the day.
There's different shrimp tapas (grilled, garlic/olive oil), fish, mussels, lobster, crab claws in garlic/olive oil, squid in its own ink, chorizo, pork, chicken, serrano hams, etc.
The entrees sound tasty too - traditional fares like paella, seafood mariscada, steak and lobster, etc.
Everyone gets complimentary soup, which to be honest w/u, I wasn't a big fan of.. it looked like chinese fast food egg drop soup and had the smell of maruchan instant ramen. Pretty watery and came w/soaked pieces of bread.. not my fav.. I actually skipped it after a few sips to make sure I had enough room for my food.
We chose the pork chunks, garlic/olive oil, parsley mussles, serrano ham w/machenga cheese, and chorizo.
The pork chunks was tasty, but slightly dry. It came w/slightly spiced potatoes. The chorizo's not my fav.. I don't think it was home made and they were just slices slightly charred.. the serrano ham is also good - came nicely presented on a wooden board nicely laid out w/the cheese and a small ramekin of olives. The best was the garlicy mussels - so ridiculously good! Especially w/the nice crispy and soft bread they give you, use that to sop up all that garlicy buttery goodness!
Some of my family ordered entrees. My uncle got the grilled pork chops.. they were ok, but pretty dry :( and my dad got the seafood mariscada, a very generous helping of clams, mussels, lobster and I believe fish. Both entrees came w/yummy yellow rice.
We were completely full, and I was very content :) I def want to try more things from the tapas menu includning the crab claws in oil/garlic, escargot, and the squid in its own ink!
Ambiance: dim lighting, intimate, candles, love it! It's a very small resataurant though so make sure you don't swing your arms when your take your coat off and mind what you say, cause your neighbors are practically sitting on your lap ! It was hard to put all our food on our table, I can only image what would have happened if we ordered more tapas!
The prices are a little steep, but then again I've never seen cheap tapas, and the you're def paying for quality for the most part. -
Review from Patty G.
Pros:
Good spot to have Tapas.
Complimentary soup is yummy.
Large Tapas menu.
Good Sangria.
Atmosphere is nice.
Cons:
The yellow rice lacks flavor.
Bar area is too dark.
Chorizo is too greasy.
There is another Tapas de España [part two!] in Englewood.
I liked part two better than part one.
And it's pretty rare for sequels to be better than originals! -
Review from Jaime W.

WooHoo for tapas! Traditional style tapas and sangria are what you go to this spot for. The tapas menu seems to go on forever and there are so many options, it's sometimes a difficult decision for what to choose.
I've never had a tapas dish that I didn't like, and the chorizo a la plancha is a must have! As far as entrees go, I couldn't say how they fare, since I've never tried them.....but as for the negative reviewers about the entrees, the place is called TAPAS de Espana...What are you doing ordering entrees anyway? That's your bad.
The sangria is great, and cheap. Order a pitcher with your tapas, and get tipsy and full for about $50 (or less) for two! Not too shabby. The complimentary soup to start with is also another plus. Always good, and great for those frigid winter nights to get warmed up and dinner started.
The servers are always on point, and despite the crowded bar and tables, you leave feeling that you have been well taken care of and paid attention to. NO pretentiousness here at all.
The decor is maybe a little dated, but the lighting is nice, which makes up for it. Good for a date, good with a few friends, and even good for a larger group. There's so much to choose from that everyone leaves happy!Listed in: Comida

My boyfriend and I usually go here on Saturday nights to check out the live flamenco. The couple that usually performs is really great, she dances and he sings and plays guitar. There is another guitar player who is really phenomenal. The set usually starts at 9pm and goes on for about an hour.
The sangria (white AND red) is fantastic. I usually end up gogging most of the pitcher to myself.
The food is just O.K, I haven't really been impressed with the entrees the last few times I've went. I ordered the baked clams and when they came out the crab meet was still cold on the inside. My boyfriend ordered the crab stuffed salmon and it was the same deal. The crab meet was cold and clearly came out of a can. Previously we had ordered the paella and felt that meat and seafood in it was relatively sparse, we only had 3 mussels and barely any chicken. I suggest you stick with the skirt steak and the clams Diablo as those are the two dishes we found to be consistently good.
The tapas menu was pretty good though. We ordered the calamari and they came out nicely seasoned and well cooked. The complimentary soup they serve is usually very, the last time we went it was the caldo gallega w/ chorizo and potatoes.
If you are going to go I suggest you stick with the sangria and the tapas. -
Review from Tim R.
I was delighted to have found Tapas de Espana. It's a dark, romantic, the staff are friendly, and the food and drink delicious.
We started with wine, but switched to sangria, which was the best I've ever tasted. The fruit is soaked in spirits (not sure what -- I guess brandy?), and is lethal (in a good... no... VERY good way).
To eat, we chose a couple of dishes from the tapas menu each: the sardines were my favourite, but shrimp, potatoes, and cod were all very good. The chorizo (?) bean and potato soup was delicious.
For dessert, crepes stuffed with booze-laced chocolatey whipped cream and walnuts were incredible, and the highlight of the meal.
Parking wasn't a problem (up to 2-hour meters on the street). Altogether, four tapas dishes, five drinks, a dessert, and a coffee, came to under $45 a head, including tip. We overindulged, but could have enjoyed a small meal and drink for under $25 each.Listed in: The Gold Coast, Tapas

In my opinion this is the best tapas place in Hudson county.
The sangria is always delicious and strong (go for a pitcher of white you wont be disappointed!) .
The rather large tapas menu makes it a little difficult to decide but i find that a plus when it comes to tapas. Everything is always prepared perfect and the comp soups are always a nice treat (especially on cold winter days)
I have never had an entree there because we go strictly for tapas.
Great food, Awesome drinks and a lot of fun.
Parking is no problem and if your going for tapas and drinks it wont break the bank.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Hands down the best sangria you will ever have! The fruit is super concentrated, so beware of those little apple pieces, you might not be able to get up after you stuff your face with tapas. I would highly recommend this place for a date or a nice gathering. The lighting is nice and dim and the music is not too loud, so the mood is just right.
I personally love their tapas the best, anywhere from their mini empanadas, the potatoes in white sauce, garlic shrimp and the list really goes on and on.....
I am not a big fan of their entrees, the only one I would particularly recommend is the chicken in garlic sauce. Their paella and meats are not as well seasoned as other Spanish places I have been to, so I was a bit disappointed. That's why they don't get all 5 stars from me.
The waitstaff is very friendly, I love the complimentary soup before the meal and try not to load up on the warm bread either! You'll want to lick your fingers after the tapas and maybe even wipe your face for any drops of sangria. ;) -

The food was good...so we thought. The next morning my husband and I were admitted to the hospital for food poisoning! We were so sick! A few days after we called the owner and he blew us off. We tried week after week to talk to him but he avoided us. What a weasel!

I come here often with my co-workers (we're teachers), and we love it.
The tapas are good especially the garlic shrimp. But we come here primarily to drink and the sangria is very good. I usually order the red, but I hear the white is just as good.
The decor is pleasant too. Parking is tough as it's metered on the street. -

Let's start off with the positive, the service was good. Now let's get to the point, the food was NOT! no flavoring what's so ever . I tried the empandas de carne (beef patty) for $9.00 for 3 miniature, I was expecting flavor bursting out of them, well no they didn't! Now for the paella, I have had more flavor from the bottom my shoe, than that flavorless crap. Seriously guys, don't waste your time nor money.

when I go I always have the paella. I love it, and the amount is enough for 3 people to eat, even when the portion is supposed to be for 2. Did not like the sangria, had it the previous to last time I was there, and I was a bit surpised by it. Bartender was a bit rude the same day that I ordered the Sangria, but the service at the tables is very good.

One of the best meals I ever had! Food was very flavorful and even in the salad, you can taste every single ingredient. We had sangrias first (which was cheap and delicious), complimentary soup was delicious, grilled seafood salad, ham and cheese plate and an excellent paella. Tapas de Espana became one of my favorite restaurants and I recommend it to everyone!

Definetly as good as Spanish food and Tapas gets and who's wallet doesnt love a complimentary soup and crusty bread to start!
Delicious authentic tasting and extensive tapas menu with the chorizo a must try!! The service is great, staff are happy, and are constanly attending to your quickly depleting sangria glass! The atmosphere and ambience is comfortable and Friday and Staurday nights are great to sit at the bar for a couple of pre or post dinner drinks (if you can get a seat!).
The entrees (such as the paella) are great to share because they are huge! Cute place for a date! -

I've been going to this place for more than 5 years, and I'm happy to say that this place has consistently been awesome. It's more popular than ever, and the quality of the food and the drinks has remained top notch. Some of the other dishes that I've liked here in addition to the ones I've already listed in my original review are the Esparragos Navarros (White asparagus with peppers and onions), and the Tetilla cheese (soft and creamy cheese made from cow's milk).
