Foremost, eating at Tango Baires Cafe felt like i was actually getting a home cooked meal by a family member! and thats saying a lot about the overall quality of the place.

I had the dinner special of the evening. It was the Milanesa (fried angus beef steak), french fries, and some mixed veggies. Prior to having the main meal, my 'date' and i ordered some of there famous beef Empanadas, which practically melted in my mouth, delicious! To my surprise mi 'date' had finished her meal within 10 mins! I guess i like taking my time a lot more when it comes to savoring the delights of what this place has to offer :)

Given the 1-5 star rating i would have given instead a 4.5* since they unfortunately did not carry my fav hot sauce, Cholula!

This was my second time going there and w/o a doubt will be heading back sooner than later but with a diff 'date' :D

This is a prime example of a great hole in the wall. Nothing pretentious, small cafe-style dining, warm service, and excellent food that rivals home. I definitely didn't grow up on Argentine food but this place serves up the type of food that makes me wish I had. Kind of like my infatuation with Jewish delis. I now want want two additional grandmas - one of Jewish heritage who specializes in some kick-ass pickled tomatoes and latkes, another of Argentine descent who can throw down a killer parrillada and empanadas.

Now currently accepting adoption applications.

Our table shared the Milanesa a la Napolitana (think an Argentine interpretation of a steak cordon bleu) and the parrillada (Argentine BBQ sampler, as I like to call it). For noobs, I definitely recommend the parillada if you are a big meat eater. It's served on a grill and comes chockfull of barbecued steak, blood sausages, chicken, ribs, peppers, onions, and some innards I didn't care much for. Goes excellent with the fantastic house bread and chimichurri. Oh, the chimichurri! How can you go wrong dipping anything savory into that? I was dipping EVERYTHING into it. As everyone raves, the empanadas are worth trying also. I can see a very dangerous addiction being developed to those little pockets of Argentine love.

One of the owners working that night was so accommodating and thoughtful. He was very attentive about refills and nice enough to bring us lots of extra chimichurri because he could tell we really enjoyed it. Gee, what gave him THAT idea? ;) He also said that since he'd forgotten our order of empanadas and brought them out AFTER our meal, he wouldn't charge us even though we insisted he do. Sure enough, when the bill came, the empanadas were missing so we reflected the difference in his already generous tip, which we were happy to furnish. I am thankful to have stumbled across another Yelp-worthy gem.

I like this place-
Fresh baked bread- crunch on the outside and soft on the inside
Empanadas- great flavors and baked fresh
Both went really well with the chimichurri sauce!!
Grilled chicken- Eggcellent! Does not need any sauce.  Good as is!
Prosciutto- not Prosciutto de Parma (minus one start)

No joke, this place saved me when i was going into Argentina withdrawal. The empanadas are just moist enough with a really excellent crust, the lomito as good as I've had in Buenos Aires and I nearly wept when Diego brought me the panqueques con dulce de leche. This guy is the best. His presence absolutely makes the place feel like home, totally embodies the warmth and familiarity that I love about BA. For those who are not familiar with Argentinean cuisine, it is hearty, delicious and thoroughly satisfying in every way possible (unless you're a vegetarian or vegan...then you should not bother). If you want an excellent, well priced steak/steak variations, this is absolutely the place, no questions asked. Words cannot describe how happy I am that this place exists and so close to where I live.

This is a really cute Argentinean restaurant in the middle of a strip mall.  The guy in the register was very helpful (and VERY cute). I ordered an empanada that wasnt ALL that, but the sauce with it definitely improved it.  I then ordered the beef al burro (with egg) and he was nice enough to replace the french friend for the mashed potatoes. The meat was really good, though the mashed could have been better.

Nice service, quiet - good food.

My friend suggested this restaurant to us, so my boyfriend and I tried it out for the first time yesterday.

We were very impressed and happy with the quality and flavor of the food and the excellent service we received.

My boyfriend and I both had a steak - the New York Steak and the Skirt Steak.  Both tasted very good, but even my boyfriend agreed my Skirt steak was much more delicious.  We also tried the beef and chicken empanadas which were very tasty, especially when the waiter, Diego, suggested we eat with the chimichurri sauce.  And finally, we ended our meal with the Flan.  Very tasty and rich - and it was served with whipped cream and yummy dulce de leche on the side.

Overall, the food was delicious and was a really nice portion (if you like to eat like me, then this was no problem).

And as far as service was concerned, it was excellent.  Diego was the only server there and had 6 tables to wait on.  Despite this, he was still very attentive and friendly.

This is a great restaurant to try as they offer great food at reasonable prices and excellent service.

I'm on this Latin food kick...

Again, I needed a place halfway between me (Pasadena) and one of my BFF's from the IE (represent). One yelp search later, I was curious as to how my picky friend would respond to an invitation to this cafe. Verdict: 5 stars, nothing less.

I wanted to write this review ASAP, while all of the ingredients were still fresh in my mind. The cafe is very small, with limited seating inside, and 2 tables on its front patio. Luckily, the amazing 80 degree weather (at 7pm at night) allowed for a pleasant outdoor dining experience.

I ordered a chicken empanada - and may I be bold enough to say that this was probably the best non-Filipino empanada I've ever had? Because it was. The dipping sauce was retarded good, and I ended up using the leftover empanada sauce as salad dressing later on in the evening.

For my main course, I ordered a half pizza Fugazetta con Jamon - and wholly moley - I was in mozzarella heaven. Their pizza crust stood the test of time, and never lost its extra-crispyness while I slowly paced my way thru every bite. The large slices of ham, covered in a steaming hot layer of cheese, made me whimper with every masticating movement of my mouth. Nothing like regular pizza, they actually topped these bad boys with huge slices of ham. Deli style. For a 1/2 order (4 slices, actually enough for 2 people), my pizza only cost a whopping $7.50. My friend ordered pasta with verde sauce, and that too was delicious ($10.50).

Although our food took eons to make - of which I'm sure my pizza was to blame for - the waiter and waitress were extremely nice - and accommodated us for the entire 3 hours we were there.

Everything was exceptional: food/service/mom&pop dining experience (Argentine style). I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu! 5 stars! 5 stars!

Dropped in for lunch with my Dad on a weekday. I've been trying to come here for the last month but my gf is picky so dad got the treat. We ordered the empanada special and a salad which we shared. My father who is from Argentina loved everything he ate, says it was the next best thing to Argentina..he is there now. The staff there were great and food was great. I will be going back for more very soon..
Thanks again Tango Baires Cafe.. I want to try the blood sausage next time....

So my Business partner and myself stopped in for lunch a while back after reading the reviews here, and guess what? The reviews were right on the money. Tango Baires, a nice Argentine cafe, run by the coolest families you can find.  So since we had no clue how to narrow down the menu, we ended up getting a few things.

The first thing was one of each flavor of empanadas. Nice pastry, excellent ingredients, and a perfect appetizer size. (I really want a dozen right now). Other items ordered were the  Lomitos Cordobes, the Bread with fantastic dipping oils, a pizza and dessert.  Let's just say that everything is great, and you can't go wrong ordering anything off the menu. Be sure to save room for the caramel crepes ...

Be prepared, it's small, only 6 or so tables inside and a couple out on the patio, there may be a wait if you go in the evening, but GO, it's well worth it!

So I have been using Yelp for a while to find restaurants but I had not written a review before this one...I love that Yelp let's me find places I never would have known about, even in my home town!

Anyway, I tried Tango Baires this afternoon and it lived up to the reviews.  Let me first say that I walked in and told the guy who worked there that it was my first time eating there and asked that he guide my hunger.  He recommended Lomitos Cordobes and I added an empanada because who doesnt love them?

The empanadas were excellent and the dipping oil that accompanied it was so delicious!  I wish I would have ordered more than one after I finished it.  The Lomitos Cordobes was very good as well, very filling, probably should have stopped at the half way point but it was so good I finished it.

The food was good, good enough for me to call some friends and tell them to check it out and sign up for Yelp and finally leave a review!  Not only was the food good but the service was refreshing.  Look forward to going back and trying their other menu options!

Bob C & James S. took me and my wife here on a lunch period.  Apparently, our waiter, Diego, knows Bob & James as big-time gluttons.  Let's see... for the 4 of us, we had about Ethiopia's total amount of food.

The empanadas were fantastic!  I loved the chicken empanadas.  It seems like all the food here is slapped with ham.  I saw ham everywhere on our food.  The pizza, which was (surprise surprise) topped with ham.  My sandwich (steak cordobes) had.... you'll never guess... HAM.  Yep, Ham on top of steak slices.  I don't really care for ham but you can hardly taste it when it gets mixed into other stuff.

I'd say 4.5 stars here and I would definitely come back.  I think I would just order the empanadas and just go wild with them.

From my food blog TwoHungryPandas (see profile):

Located in a strip mall, Tango Baires Cafe is an unassuming Argentinean restaurant stuffed in between a Baskin Robins and a small dinner. Had it not been for my fellow coworkers, this restaurant would have been overlooked and unvisited.

The empanadas are wonderful with just the right amount of flakiness. The outer shell is not too thick, and not too thin. The beef is is flavorful and balances well with the cheese. The empanadas are also accompanied by an herb and olive oil sauce which has a rich cilantro flavor; when coupled with the sauce, a whole new range of flavors are brought out. Many times, I find empanadas overly greasy but this was not the case at Tango Baires.

If potato salad is on the menu, I'll usually order it. The potato salad at Tango Baires is more on the refreshing and sweet side, which I like because I'm not a fan of potato salads with a heavy pickled taste. The peas and carry add the right amount of sweetness.

The Lomitos Cordobes is a tender beef sandwich served with lettuce, tomatoes, ham, eggs, and their special sauce. I've returned to Tango Baires because of this sandwich. All the flavors of the sandwich come together nicely, especially the beef and egg. Pour on some of the special sauce for a little tang and kick.

If you live or happen to be in the area, I encourage you to drop by for a tasty bite. I have only tried their sandwiches but they offer a variety of pizzas, meat platters, pastas, and other Argentinean delights.

I've been here a couple times now. I really like this place. First off this review is getting 5 stars not solely based on the food. The food gets it a 4. The fact that it's owned by a very nice couple who seem to care about the quality of their food and their service gets it a 5. I'm a big believer in supporting local businesses when they're good and Tango Baires is good.

We ordered a dozen empanadas and I had the skirt steak. That steak was very tasty. Cooked just right. The empanadas were superb. We had 4 different kinds: beef, chicken, spinach, and ham and cheese. I'd swing by here just to grab some of these little guys to go... okay, yeah I'll sit down and eat them there and have another steak... maybe I'll try the ribs and the blood sausage and a pizza.

The pizzas look good by the way. I'll update when I try one.

I would like to say that I stumbled upon this place by mere chance--as is often the case--but the reality is I listened to my fellow yelpers on this one and I am glad that I did.  So thank you for the thoughtful reviews!

Anyway, down to business: I came here for lunch with a coworker, and tried the milanesa sandwich.  For those who are not familiar, milanesa is a very thin beef steak that is breaded and fried, and is often used in Argentinian sandwiches (although you can eat it standalone like a normal steak, too).

Now, I have had numerous milanesa sandwiches over the years, and sometimes the beef will be chewy and hard; this sandwich was anything but.  The steak was very tender, easy to bite through, and delicious.  It was served on a roll that was toasty on the outside and soft on the inside, with tomato, lettuce, and mayo.  The portion of milanesa in the sandwich was more than enough, and I really enjoyed the sandwich.

I also tried one of the beef empanadas.  The crust was nice and flaky--just right.  I felt that the beef filling was under-seasoned, but overall it was a pretty good empanada.  My brother-in-law's mother makes really excellent Argentine empanadas, so I have been a bit spoiled in that category.

The decor inside was nice, they had a futbol match playing out on the TV (FC Barcelona against the cannon-fodder of the week), and the waiter was friendly.  We waited a good 15 minutes for our food, though, but I felt it was worth it after the first bite.

All in all, this is one of the better places I think to eat in Upland and I would recommend it.  A little pricey for lunch, but just right for dinner.  Go there now!

Saw the reviews here and thought I'd give this place a try. My friend and I came down from Victoria Gardens (about a 6-mile drive) and found the place delightfully charming.

We had chicken empanadas for starters, complimented by a cilantro sauce. We shared an order of salad and Steak Cordobes (steak, ham, egg, etc) sandwich, which was amazing; I ate my entire share of the order. There was a zesty/spicy sauce that accompanied the dish, which gave it an extra kick. Flan for dessert had an interesting texture; it was thicker than I was used to, but interesting nonetheless.

Overall, the dining experience was enjoyable. The server was very nice, polite, and attentive, which sometimes makes a huge difference. I've never had Argentine food before so I have nothing to compare this experience to, but far as I can tell, this is as good a first experience as any. I'll definitely be back for more!

Excellent empanadas, and tuesdays are empanada nights, where they give a free empanada for every person. I haven't been yet, but I will make sure to go soon. I had the lomito steak sandwich, it came on some Argentinian bread that I had never had before, and it was excellent. Pour on some chimichurri and you're set. Prices are excellent also. $6.50 for my sandwich and fries and $2 for an empanada.

This is the only Argentinian place around here that I know of, and its definitely good enough to come back often.

Tango Baires is damn delicious. I found this small little place on Yelp, brought a few of my buddies, and had an awesome meal.

We started off with a couple empanadas and the provoleta. Damn the empanadas were delicious as hell -- especially the olive oil-chili concoction that it comes with. The provoleta was good in the beginning, but the cheese hardened up a bit too fast, so after about 5 minutes or so, it became a plate of string cheese. It only came with one small loaf of bread, which barely was enough to eat 1/3 of the provoleta, so we asked for some more bread (which ended up costing extra). Why would u serve a big plate of melted cheese with just one dinky, little bread loaf? I dunno I found that kind of strange.

I ordered the lomito cordobes (thanks to reading some of the Yelp reviews) and it was AWESOME. The slices of beef were insanely tender and the the mixture of all the sauces, mayo, ham, cheese were seriously perfect. My only complaint is that it had a little bit TOO much mayo so I felt a little sick halfway through. After scooping off some of the mayo, the rest of it was really really good. For $7.99, I'd definitely come back and get it again.

The service on its most basic level was pretty decent. The server was a little lifeless and didn't really seem too happy to be there. Whenever I go to Argentinian or Brazilian or Cuban restaurants, I feel that the servers are always cheerful and social, so it was a little off to see a server who was so bland and boring. Not a big deal.

I can't wait for my next trip back home to Upland, because I'm definitely coming back to Tango Baires.

We love this place!  For one, the food happens to be excellent.  It's like I am back in Argentina with my friends and family around.  It also is a perfect quaint atmosphere to take kids.  The pizza is just like "home" and the milanesa (I get the chicken one) is addictive!  If you want authentic argentine cuisine for a good price and in a relaxed environment, go here!

A clean, quaint cafe with friendly service. At times I'm in the mood for something simple, like dipping french bread into olive oil and cheese, and this place hit the spot.  Empanadas are small but tasty. Will come back and try more heartier items, like a sandwich or steak.

so this is why my argentinian friends kiss when they greet, they eat sum kick a** food!
so far I've only had two items in the menu because I just cant shake off their craivings, the lomito sandwich and the entraña.
their sooo gooood,  such juicy treats, ghrrrlllll...im drooling now. that beefy sandwich comes all slathered up in mayo, not some evil mayo but  a nice buttery snuggly friend all up on the tender meat's juices, it needs nothing no sauce no sides not even a drink  its so juicy.
The entraña too, too juicy too flavorful, best steak I had in the area again perfect on its own but this one perfecter with a stoutie friend by its side. I might just start making a habit of smoochin on people I say wasup to after eating here, i love it.

This is a teeny, tiny place.  I didn't know it was so small but because of the good reviews, I thought I'd make reservations for my sis-in-law's birthday with a party or 12.

The BBQ sampler was deeelish...brought out on a mini table-top grill.  I was pleasantly surprised to find sweetbreads as part of the BBQ sampler...now that's authentic.  The pizza was fine...nothing to write home about.  The gnocci was surprisingly good, with decent pink sauce.  The cute Argentinian waiters who were very friendly and attentive definitely made it even better.

I was in a bit of a Yelp slump lately, and it took a recommendation from Bob C. to try this place, so thanks Bob!  There are already a number of reviews on this place, so I'll keep this brief.  Here's what I had (you can check the website for more detailed descriptions of what I ate):

Tango Baires pizza - I liked the variety of toppings, which went very well with the crust.  The crust is very different than the type you get at pizza joints, so try it with an open mind.

Lomito Cordobes sandwich - Excellent sandwich.  My only knock against it would be that I wished it had a little more meat.

Panqueques - Crepes filled with caramel.  I was told to get the flan, but they were out of it the day I went.  The crepes were a little tough and more closely resembled flour tortillas.  I won't order these again.

While I waited, I chatted with whom I believe is one of the owners, who was hospitable and very welcoming, which is very important to me as a customer.  I will definitely be back to try more items.

My goodness, long-time no-yelp.  While fellow gluttons Bob C and Gerald S are tearing it up with over 560 reviews between them, I'm sitting on about 3 reviews for the whole year so far.  Well, time to break the long yelping dry spell, and look ma, 5 stars!

First, a confession.  After reading Michelle C's yelp review, I seriously contemplated giving them a strategic 3 stars in the hopes that the friendly owner would contact me and 'woo' me back with the offer of a free meal just as he did with her.  Considering how much I liked the food & atmosphere, it was hard not to buckle and at least give that strategy a shot.  Oh well, score one for ethics (I suppose my Sunday school teacher would be proud, but my palate sure hates me right now).

This place left a great impression on me from start to finish.  I called to check their Sunday hours, and as soon as I heard the Argentinian accent on the other end of the line I got a little more excited about my upcoming afternoon eats.

The atmosphere is just right: clean, cozy, pictures of Argentine tango dancers about the walls, and a dining area full of Argentinean Spanish speaking family folk.  This place is actually ok for low-key people watching, as the Baskin Robbins next door gets surprisingly good foot-traffic (people please, Handel's Homemade Ice Cream is not that far away, so WTF).

Service was friendly and attentive, and the food did not disappoint.  The empanadas (beef & chicken) were exceptional: great light flaky pastry, tasty filling, an all around a perfect appetizer/snack (the filling remains extremely hot, so be alert).

The Argentinean grilled special was very satisfying.  I enjoyed the chicken, beef short ribs, sweet breads, blood sausage (might be an acquired taste), and grilled vegetables.  The other sausage was a bit dry & the side salad was nothing special, but, overall, the main dish had solid well-balanced flavors.  The presentation (on a small charcoal table-grill) was also well done.

The waiter picked the desserts, both of which were quite tasty.  The flan was a bit denser than what you'd normally find at say a Mexican food place.  It was nicely plated with sides of both cream and caramel (definitely a do-over).  I'm not sure what the other dish was called, but it was essentially rolled crepes filled with caramel and topped with powdered sugar (another do-over, not too sweet & very satisfying).

I look forward to trying their pizza and tasty looking sandwiches (they cut the crust off their finger sandwiches, which tickled me for some odd reason.  Maybe I have a bread crust fetish).  I initially ordered one of their pizzas, but the waiter somehow talked me out of it (he thought it'd be too much food, so clearly he didn't know me at all.  I almost took it as a challenge & considered ordering 2 pizzas just to spite him. But he was sincerely concerned about me over-ordering, and cooler more health-conscious minds prevailed).  Gotta go for pizza next time though, and I'm intrigued by the faina topping (which they sell by-the-slice).

I came back to yanquilandia after living in Buenos Aires for a year with three things permanently etched in my mind: espresso, beef and wine.

As a newly 21-year-old and a recent ex-vegetarian (after 11 years of meat celibacy, I re-popped my carnivorous cherry at an Argentine parrilla, engordándome con ojo de bife y matambre y riñones while a solitary tear of joy slid down my cheek),  I returned to my final year of college with high hopes of experiencing what southern California has to offer in terms of satisfying my Argentine obsessions.

And there began my disappointment... Among weak Starbucks lattes, soggy hamburger patties and two-buck chuck, my mind and stomach slowly began to lose the sparkle and enthusiasm for life that they had acquired en la ciudad porteña.  I would wake up at dawn, holding onto my dreams of morcillas dancing with chorizos, fountains flowing with trapiche malbec and rivers of cortados and cafés con leche.  I felt lost and abandoned by a country that didn't seem concerned with the desperation to fulfill my culinary cravings.

Until one day, driving down Foothill Blvd and listening to los Fabulosos Cadillacs, my sixth sense for all things Argentine spotted the simple sign, "Tango Baires," among the neverending fast food restaurants and sex toy shops.  My heart skipped a beat as I entered the modest domain and was greeted by what I felt were long lost friends: merengadas, mate and malbec smiled down on me from shelves against the walls, while sandwiches de miga and medialunas seemed to wave hello from behind their glass encasing.  I was home!

Two bottles of trapiche malbec and half a barbecued cow later (I was with one other dining partner, although to say that we evenly split the meal would be to exaggerate only slightly...), I was as full and content as though I had just finished a parrillada at Prosciutto; and for just a moment, I thought that I could note the distinct smell of a late Argentine night, the glow of the city under the brightly lit oblisco and the deep rumble of la charla de la gente porteña as they sat in cafés and bares, sipping cafecitos and vino and savoring the beauty that is Buenos Aires after the sun goes down.

My friend came down from LA to visit me for lunch. Trying to find something decent in this town that doesn't fall into the highly commercialized restaurants that suburbs tend to specialize in, I turned to yelp and found this little Argentina café.
The place is charming, small but beautifully decorated. My friend was pretty impressed. But as previously warned, this place is a little difficult to find. We both had some sandwich dish which consisted of egg yoke oozing out, making it a technique to gracefully eat the concoction without having sauce smeared all over.
The food was decent; I don't eat pork so that did limit me to more than half of the dishes. The bread was fresh and the food authentic. How do I figure, seeing that I am not from Argentina? One, they spoke only Spanish. A delightful surprise, giving me a chance to show off my Spanish ;) , although broken. Next, the customers who were also dinning were from Argentina.
Overall, I would recommend this place.

I love Argentinian food!

I have been a fan of this stuff for years now. Ever since I had my first bite of bread with chimichurri I knew this style of cooking was going to be one of my favorite's.

This place has a great atmosphere! Very welcoming and tons of little cookies and tea's and stuff to buy from Argentina.  Very pleasant I immediately felt at home there.

I ordered a Lomito(steak sandwich) and a spinach empenada. Both were decent but a little underwhelming. It could be the fact that I had the idea of it in my head from the night before. I don't know. My big problem with the sandwich was the amount of mayo. Without the mayo it would have been delicious with just chimichurri. That mayo though, ugh, and I'm not one of those people that doesn't like mayo.

I want to go back to try their baked goods as I've heard great things about them. But I'm only getting the lomito sans mayo.

Summary: Tango Baires Cafe, located in Upland on Campus and Foothill, is a hidden gem of a restaurant and a "must try".

Me and my s/o (who is Argentine, so you know we are PICKY) have been here a couple of times and have been pleasantly surprised both times. The small restaurant (located in a strip mall) serves tasty Argentine food that is reasonably priced.  The service is also good (and believe me, in an Argentine restaurant that is no small feat).  Moreover, although the restaurant itself is somewhat humble and not "fancy", the food is authentic and well made.  For your money, you're much better off here than at some wanna be place in Pasadena.

This last visit, (my s/o insisted on a lunch this Sunday after being disappointed on Sat night by Malbec in Pasadena, see review by Mark M) we started with the Ensalada Rusa (Russian Potato Salad) and Matambre (meat roll, sounds gross, but is soooo good), a steal for just under 9 bucks.  The potato salad was almost, I stress almost in case my s/o reads this, as good as my mother in law's.  You can tell they make their own mayo, it didn't even need salt.  The matambre was flavorful and meaty and addicting.

Our second course was the beef empanadas which came out of the kitchen steaming hot and with a touch of pepper were perfect, they melted in my mouth; the pastry crust was crispy and the beef was seasoned perfectly (ground beef empanadas can sometimes be too salty, these were not).  For our last dish we tried the ham and onion pizza.  I was too full to take more than a bite, but it was very good (altho not "stuffed" Argentine pizza like we were used to).

Our entire bill came to under $30 and we were very happy.  One word for this place: sabroso!

Note: on a prior visit we tried the milanesa which was also very good.

In sum, I highly recommend this restaurant for those of you who want real Argentine food, it's pretty much as close as it gets to home cooking (altho nothing beats my mother in law's cooking).  It was no surprise that we saw some of our argentine friends eating there.

p.s.-the bbq is a deal at $35 or so for 2 people

CIAO!

With the help of YELP, my sister and I went this past weekend. We were both glad to have found this little place. We started off with the spinach empanadas....hot....fresh....yummy!! I had the Milanesa and chose the potato salad for my side. Milanesa was good and enough for two (my husband enjoyed the doggie bag!). I enjoyed the potato salad, which included peas and carrots in it. It wasn't heavy nor too creamy. My sister had the Pesto Tango Baire's. Very good, but could have been served a bit warmer. The bread with Chimi-churri was great! With dinner, we each had a glass of Trapiche...very nice.  We skipped dessert, but I took an order of flan home to my husband. It was wonderful...unlike any flan I had before. It was almost like cheesecake and the caramel was scrumptious. This was our first visit, but definitely not our last. Next time we will order pizza...it looked good!

Being a fan of Argentine cuisine I was excited to read about this place having been by it on my way to other locations in this strip mall. It's super small, 7 tables inside and two outside.

So, I went in and tried the pizza Tango Baires.....it had hard boiled egg, onion, green olives, marinated roasted red bell peppers, ham, cheese, tomato and salsa (not like what you are thinking) I am sad to say it was just so so. I was expecting the thin crust that is really a nod to the heavily Italian influence in Argentine cusine....but I would swear they used Bobboli, that ready made pizza crap I mean crust that you can buy in the store.

What was interesting is that literally everyone in there was speaking Spanish....Argentine Spanish. So, I think I made a poor choice in the pizza. Given that th local Argentine population was in there eating....usually a good sign of any ethnic restaurant.

I ordered it to go....so I saw a lot of peoples food coming out. The milanesa and the sandwiches looked great as did the salad.

I will go again and make a better selection. That is why I gave three stars....in the hope that the next time my selection will be better.

*** Update 04/13/08 ***

What has changed with this restaurant in three days you may ask?Well, the very reason I frequent local restaurants vs. mega-chains....the people.

I received a rather nice message from the owner of this establishment thru Yelp. He recently purchased the restaurant, is a Yelper, and read my review. He acknowledged what I had to say and offered to buy me a meal at his restaurant in order to show that he cares what people are saying about his place as well as to show that they can do better. I will take him up on his offer, when I get a chance, and change from three stars to four...simply for the owner being a class act!

I totally dig this place.  Sure it's tiny and hard to locate as many other reviewers have noted, but there's a simple charm to this place.

To start, we began with the empanadas (1 beef, 1 chicken each) which were very tasty.  Love the pastry part of it as it was light and crispy.

Then, we moved onto the Argentinean special (made for 2 folks) which included short ribs, chicken, blood sausage, pork (?) sausage, and sweet breads.  I'm not sure I'd get this one again.  I liked the chicken, but felt that the other items were overcooked for my tastes.  The short ribs were kinda chewy.  Also, seeing all the tasty looking sandwiches come out of the kitchen made us want to try other items on the menu.

Lastly, we left the dessert decision making to our waiter.  He brought us their flan which came with a blob of caramel and caramel crepes.  I really enjoyed both.  The flan is pretty thick and heavy, but tasty.

Overall, I really like this place and plan on sampling much more on their menu.

Wow! This is a gem of a place with great friendly service and awesome food to go with! Has some imported beers from Argentina and I believe Chile or Peru. The beef empanada was nice and flaky, although on the small side (for $2). I had the lomito cordobes (angus steak, ham, and egg sandwich) and it was fantastic. Good bread and that sauce was awesome! I added a lil tapatio to spice it up a bit. The other half got the suprema cordobesa (breaded chicken, ham, and egg sandwich) which was also bomb diggity. I will be a regular here.

Esta bien che!
I was completely surprised by this.
I have an Argentine friend that took us here and he vouched for its authenticity. The location sucks but who cares? The food was AMAZING.

Get the pizza especial, it was amazing. Crispy, thin, and not too expensive. They also have other Argentine things for sale including yerba mate for a good price (6-7 dollars a kilo). I hear their milanesa is also good.

Argentine food seems to be very heavily influenced by italian standards but even as italian food its easily the best italian style pizza i've had in the US. Really great random find.

Best bakery..... try going there at 2pm and there will not be anything left for you.

Their coffee is just simply the best. Strong and bold!!!

Love their meatloaf look-alike or ham....the one that has eggs in the center.

Small place with lots of sweet goodness.

the boyfriend and i found this restaurant through yelp as we were looking for restaurant near the claremont colleges.  we were definitely not let down by the reviews.

the steak was fantastic:  large, tasty, and the chimichurri was delicious.  we definitely came here raring for meat and got just what we wanted.  my cut was especially large and even though my appetite is enormous, i had to take a large chunk home.

we also shared a caprese salad prior to the steaks.  the tomatoes were big, juicy, and crisp...but the mozzarella was a little questionable.  it kind of tasted like it was going to go bad like, tomorrow or something.  it was probably just a fluke so i'd still come back here and just order a different salad.

i've never had an argentinean pizza, but we took one home for later that night, and it was delicious.  softer than the italian sort and different from the new york style.  it was very good.  i can't say if i know the place was authentic as i've never been to argentina, but everyone around us was speaking argentinean spanish.  it was pretty funny to be two random asians in this wholly argentinean place.

anyway, you get very good value for your money considering how huge and delicious the steaks are.  the service was attentive even if it was just one guy taking care of everyone.  there were very few tables though so i hope the place doesnt fill up too much on the weekends.

we're really glad to have found this place and kind of keeping it as our "secret" spot whenever i go down to visit the boyfriend in claremont.  i'll be back for some more steak and hopefully try the other toppings on their pizzas.

we went back a few days later. When something is a 5 star i always want to go back soon. My wife and I took our parents here on friday night. I ordered the same sandwich as did my dad and my wife and here mom split one. Everybody was telling me what a great choice. Everybody loved it. I was kind of worried because my sandwich wasnt the same as the first time. The bread was pretty hard and there wasnt as much mayo this time. different cook ? The first time i didnt use the sauce that much but this time i used it all and it was really good. definilty will go back again and again.

The Service was worth a 5. And most of my meal was worth a 5 too- The Entrana- however, half of my steak needed a few more minutes on the grill. My dinner date ordered the Bife Steak (12oz NY strip) and his was less flavorful and moist but his mashed potatoes were excellent. The Chimichurri was also a big highlight. All in all, a delightful experience :) OH and the empanadas were really yummy too!

Small space. Easily missed. Friendly service. Great Argentinian food. Pizza is different but really good--some of the best I have tasted outside of New York (not New York style though).

I tried everything when I went from the appetizers (empanadas), food (especial pizza, milanesa, steak), to wine and dessert (flan). Everything was really tasty. If you love food as much as I do you gotta eat here!

This Argentine cafe is located next to Baskin Robbins in sort of a strip mall.  It is easy miss, but definitely worth stopping by.  On Wednesdays and Fridays they serve pizza.  I think the pizza is really the main attraction.  It is crispy and cheesy and quite good.  I tried the ravioli and spaghetti on another occasion, but they weren't my favorite.  The cafe is small and can get pretty crowded in the evening, but it's great to get to go as well.  I haven't tried the desserts they have in the display case, but I will someday because they sure look good.

I need to choose another entree next time because i really want to give this place a chance.  The service was great, the gentlemen who was behind the counter, Diego (who i later found from his card that he was the owner) was very nice and a happy guy.  it was one of the customers birthday and Diego brought a dessert concoction which loooked awesome and was just a happy go lucky guy.  This place has some authentic argenitnan pastries, yerba mate, gourds, and other teas which were priced very reasonably.  The setting was relaxing, and i really wanted to hang out longer than i did.  Very down to earth mellow atmosphere.  The entree that i chose was the Entrana (his recommendation).  It was a char-grilled tender beef steak.  It looked amazing and smelled great too, however i found that there was just an abundance of fat in the steak.  I know skirt steaks are suppose to have quite a bit of fat, but this steak had hardly any taste.  This will not dampen my spirits on this place though and i will attempt it again with another entree next time.  Any recommendations??? : )
