My favorite memory of Tanglewood was back in the day when they hosted the Crosby Championship and the Vantage Golf Championship. Those were the days.

When I do have the opportunity to play golf, I usually just hit the Par 3 course and Tanglewood has a good one. It is great for the family on a Saturday morning.

Tanglewood has other services it offers to the public. You can host your banquet, corporate event or even your wedding. Often you can see a bride running around with a slightly panicked look on her face.

Also, the park hosts the Annual Carolina Wine Festival.

The park used to be owned by the RJ Reynolds family and it was later donated to the county.

I love giving this place five stars.  It is a park that encompasses so many opportunities that the only activity left off the menu is skydiving and I'm sure that's in the works.  Two 18 hole golf courses that can compete with most in the state of NC,  an equestrian center,  swimming facilities,  camping and lodges,  fishing,  hiking,  what else do you need?

My review is focused on golf.  Tanglewood offers two courses.  The Reynolds course and the Championship Course;  the latter a previous host to the Champions Tour.  Both are a steal at $37 and $25 unlimited play during the week and slightly higher on weekends.

The Championship Course is the more popular course and a tee time is recommended as it is pretty packed even during the week.  The course boasts close to a hundred bunkers.  It is a forgiving layout but with that many bunkers a premium is placed on accuracy.  No true signature holes but a nice venture around the Yadkin Valley.

The Reynolds Course is my favorite.  Less expensive and a lot more character,  this layout will test most clubs in the bag.  Opening with a par 5 that will leave you thanking God for a par this course meanders through the forests of Tanglewood with lots of elevation changes on the back nine closing with a 390 y uphill dog left par 4 that will leave you cursing your mother and at the same time wondering if you still have time to get nine more in.

I almost enjoy the grill as much as the golf,  ALMOST.  Where in the world of golf can you get a dog,  chips,  and drink for less than five bucks?  Served in an open dining room with flat panel tvs tuned to the golf channel.

Five Stars isn't enough for Tanglewood!  Class,  value,  and southern hospitality at its finest!
