This is the best place to get Moroccan food.
Lemony chicken tagine is amazing , and the couscous is one of the best I had.

Chicken skewers with couscous is also great.

My only negative about this restaurant is that in some seats the lights are too dim , I could not see the food.

Otherwise great atmosphere and great service considering the amount of crowd on Sat nights.

This is for the down stairs hookah bar.

I went there with  a friend of mine, as we've been told it was a good place. Being Lebanese, the music was good and the couscous was good although I could make better at home. My friend got some lamb wrapped in dough and he did not really finish it, nevertheless he had a sick stomach that night and could not sleep.

I am mainly here because I asked my waitress for some water (as in tap). So she asked me if I wanted distilled or sparkling, then I proceeded to say "No, I am fine with nothing. Thank you". Somehow she took it as big bottle of distilled water please, and proceeded to bring it to the table, open it and pour it. I shrugged off until...The bill showed an 8$ cost for WATER! Why would I want water for that much! So in short I felt duped, and left displeased with the experience.

So, no thank you Tangierino and no THANK YOU Voss! Other than that I had more fun walking under the moonlight rather than sitting in a 30-40$ hookah lounge that seemed unworthy.

Tangierino offers solid Moroccan cuisine in a sultry, exotic space.  Service is good, ambiance is top-notch, but I'm not a huge fan of their bar / mixed drinks and prices are a bit steep.

All appetizers are pretty tasty, but I think the Chicken Bstila is most worth ordering.  Skip the pedestrian calamari (you're not in the North End) though...its greasy and overcooked.  For your main course, you cant go wrong with either the Sultan's Kadra or the Couscous Royale.

Overall, I'd return and recommend to anyone looking for something off the beaten path.

    Just for the hookah lounge.

Place is downstairs, under the main restaurant.

It's crazy on weekends, and I've had to wait 45 minutes to get seated.  It's better on Sundays and during the week.   The sheesha is good, without being spectacular.  The mint tea is great.  The scene is nice.  They have belly dancers, it's loud, crowded and has a happening feel to it on weekends (all of which I enjoy).

My principal knock on the place are the outrageous prices. It's not enough that they charge a base price of $30 a hookah.  If you get a mix, that's another 10 bux.  If you get seated in the "VIP section", which is actually 2/3 of the place, it's another 10 bux.  Total ripoff.    But reasonably priced hookah in Boston doesn't really exist (compared to most other big cities), so relatively, they are only half crooks.

Came here on a weeknight with a friend for dinner.  First off, the parking is sort of tricky, so we went with valet - just this once!

The restaurant is very dark and exotically decorated.  There are belly dancers that come around to the tables and...well shake their hips and flash their bare navels in your face.  Here's the thing - do I look at the belly dancers while they're dancing? I am trying to eat and have a conversation, so I don't want to focus on the girls walking by dancing...though is it insulting if I do not look?  I get so confused when I come here.  Anyone know the proper protocol for dinner entertainment?

The food is...well, the food is OK.  It hits in the ballpark of what it's trying to accomplish, but the flavors are a bit muted and the composition of the dishes is boring.

I would say this is the place you'd go for some hookah and, if you're into that sort of thing, some belly-dancers.  However, the atmosphere is dark and a bit erotic if you're here with a coworker, so I'd advise against it.

Overall, if you're not into the hookah, take your money elsewhere for dinner and avoid the belly-dancing-connundrum.

My sister took me here for my birthday two years ago.  The ambience was....not for two sisters having dinner together.  It's a very romantic restaurant.  I remember that there was only one thing on the menu that really looked like I'd like it, but it was amazing.  For me, there's not a lot of variety, but what I'll eat is really good.  Of course, it being two years ago, I really don't remember what I ate...

Took my-now-fiancée there for our 2-year dating anniversary and had a blast.
They have great exotic dishes that are well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. Portion size is pretty good too. Drinks were about average, nothing special.

This place is all about the food and ambiance. Belly-dancer going around the place was interesting, dinner and show!

Very intimate, romantic environment, which is great for couples but would not recommend for parties larger than 4 people.

Pricey but very high-quality service and food, so it's worth it for special occasions.

Highly recommended by Rozay.  I enjoyed myself at Tangierino's.  I admit I was a little ify about eating Morocian food but had to pop in because all of the nice reviews.  A must try for sure.  Great for a date plus you can smoke mad hookah in the basement hookah bar.  I spent like $30 on a bowl..  Think that's the avg price for it.

I have some pics in my profile of the dishes we ordered.  Check them out..

Here I have to disagree with yelp to a certain extent. Now to be fair, having recently been to the absolute best middle eastern place ever (zahav in Philadelphia) the odds weren't great for Tangerino.
This place is definitely not a bad restaurant but I believe that the pricing doesn't accurately reflect what this place offers in return. Lamb was not hot enough when it was served. Appetizers were very good ...

+Ambience: You walk in, you're in Morocco. Some seating arrangements are cozier than others--next time I go, I'll make a reservation for one of those booths with a hoopah of tulle draped above me.

+Cuisine: I had something with eggplant, cheese, and apricots that was delicious. My date had almost the same, but with lamb too, that he loved. The Tangierino equivalent of a bread basket involves fennel-spiced hummus and green olives. I hate fennel AND green olives and ADORED that. Would've gotten dessert but I have a trace mango allergy.

-Staff: Meh. Not super friendly waiters, and no one to greet you when you arrive is sort of strange. We waited around for 5 minutes before someone asked if we were waiting for a table.

It would've gotten 5 stars except for the staff. Everything was truly delectable.

This place was amazing. It's no surprise that after 250+ reviews it has a 4 star reputation.

My boyfriend took me here for my 30th birthday. He made a reservation and asked for a private table. When we arrived we were escorted to our table, something that looked like a planquin. Other yelpers have referenced these as the "Cabana tables." It was nice to have a table that was a bit secluded. My only notes about this seating arrangement was that there wasn't much leg room, and you do have to lean over to eat your food. If you've got knee/back issues I'd recommend you skip this seating option for something more traditional. That being said, however, I loved, absolutely loved the atmosphere. It was laid back, exotic, and there was even a belly dancer walking around dancing.

We started with the chicken b'stila to share for an appetizer. They were amazing. phyllo dough, chicken, toasted almonds, and a yogurt sauce. They were savory and a bit sweet... sweeter than I would have thought, but very, very good nonetheless.

For dinner, I chose to have the Tagine of Boneless Short Ribs - braised tender short ribs, toasted sesame seeds over seven vegetable couscous. The vegetables and couscous were quite tasty, and the short ribs were to die for. I couldn't finish the veggies and couscous because there was just too much food!

My boyfriend had the Boneless Short Ribs - braised in red wine and prunes. They had olives and some other veggies on the side, and he chose to have them with asparagus and mashed potatoes. He loved the short ribs, mashed potatoes, and asparagus, but isn't a fan of olives so he left those alone. He also wasn't sure in the dim lighting what was a prune and what was an olive, so he disregarded those for the most part as well.

To conclude our meal we each had some coffee and split the chocolate souffle.

Downstairs there is a hookah bar, but we didn't partake it that part of establishment... not this time at least. This is some place I definitely would be willing to return to in the future!

This review is for the bar downstairs only.  The tables are all reserved for the big spenders (you can get one for yourself for a fee) so most of the open seats are at the bar.  The music is loud.  The cocktails are sweet and uninteresting along the lines of the cosmopolitan family.  And they let people smoke.  it may be the only option for a bar in Charlestown (versus a pub) but it's not that classy or sexy looking downstairs.  I don't get all the raves.  I probably wouldn't come back.

I love Mediterranean food!  My Fiance took me there for our anniversary, and I loved it! Tangierino is by far the best Mediterranean Restaurant I have ever been to.  The place is incredible, the service is excellent and the food is incredibly delicious.  Its a great place for that special romantic dinner.  The lounge is great for a fun get together with friends.  You won't regret going to Tangierino!

I was so impressed by Tangerino's restaurant week offerings. Most places give you a very limited option of menu items. They give you almost the full run of the menu. The décor here is excellent and fits the theme of the place, however the décor comes at the expense of your comfort. In the cabana tables you struggle to be constantly leaning forward to eat or sitting back and having to put your plate on your legs to eat comfortably. The food I had was great, here's what I had:

Chicken B'Stilla - this dish is sweeter than you would anticipate. Tasty chicken with almonds wrapped in philo dough topped with a bit of powdered sugar. It also comes with a great mint yogurt dipping sauce.

Short Rib - If you enjoy a good boneless short rib then this dish will not disappoint.

Chocolate Soufflé - A mini chocolate cake with a molten center topped with a scoop of ice cream.

Loved this place!! We had heard of this place from a couple of friends and it totally lived up to it's reputation! The food was amazing (get the Moroccan eggplant - it's amazing and the lamb chops). Sure it's pricey but it's worth it!! The service was amazing too...our hostess Bouchra was great! We got a table as soon ad we got there and then she moved us to a booth with a better location as soon as one got free!! She was very friendly and even brought us a chocolate mousse and some Moroccan Tea after we had finished (one the house).

The Hukka lounge downstairs was crowded and we had to wait a little but we loved the atmosphere!

    Definitely 5 stars!!!

This past Sunday, I had my birthday dinner at Tangierino for fifteen. We effectively had a private room to ourselves.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, but there were some big oops! Our waitress could not coordinate to save her life. She had much difficulty bringing out the drinks all at once (and left them on another table while serving - a big waitress no-no, yes you are supposed to balance the tray). She also brought my friend not her strong and perfectly mixed Medina's Envy but something entirely whiskyfied and horrid. She had some issues with being timely, and often outsourced her waitressly duties to who seemed to be a manager.

Most everyone enjoyed their meal. My friends had the eggplant, sashimi tuna, couscous, and tagine of lemon chicken among other things I could not see down our long table. I had the Maine sea scallops which were tender and melt-in-your-mouth but only an app portion for $15. My drink was a $13 glorified cosmo, but that's okay.

You might be noticing a theme here. For a non-authentic, sometimes a tad offensive (snake charmer, flying carpet, and drunken camel are all beverages) they make you pay.

Total for 15? $750. Seriously, my jaw dropped. A one-hundred dollar tip for a so-so waitress who actually had other people serve us? What a shame. Alas, we paid.

The atmosphere was great, if a little over-the-top. The bellydancer was sweet and a lot of fun, dragging my friend out to bellydance with her. I wish they offered us the cozy, loungey tables with see-through curtains drawn around them. It would have been a bit more intimate and fun.

Tangierino - go for apps and cocktails and expect to spend!

I want to give this place a 5 because it's actually kind of amazing. Alas, the prices do not justify it however.

To start, the Chicken Bstila is a wonderfully sweet/salty taste explosion of chicken inside a phyllo dough triangle with a side of some of the best yogurt sauce ever. Ever!

Oh, I almost forgot, and how could I? The complimentary bread and hummus with green olives. Through the bread out (though good in its own right) and just dunk your hands into that creamy dish of haul.

Don't be a scaredy cat and eat off the new world menu. While inventive, it's nothing compared to the old world. I mean that's why you're here, right? Unless you got tricked into thinking this was just a belly dancing show. Then you're excused.

Pretty much half the old world entrees come with the seven vegetable cous cous, which alone is $19. Very pricey, and also very good.

Or for a mere (yeah, mere) $9 more you could get some of the best boneless short ribs ever with some wonderful sauced-up figs to go with it, continuing the sweet/salty mix that I absolutely loved. Juicy, tender short ribs that fall apart, and are equal in portion to the giant puck of cous cous.

Very awesome food. Way expensive though. If every dish were $5 less, I'd go back, easily. As is, I'd need a coupon to return, or maybe someone can take me out to dinner, as I think I have a new guilty pleasure.

We had dinner there last Sunday with another couple.  I was a little bit leery at first, as it was still restaurant week, but I called ahead and they said they were serving their full menu as well (I hate restaurant week, the menus are too limited, the crowds are odd and the waitstaff is surly from being under tipped).

anyhoo, we had reservations for 7:00, which we didn't really need; since it was a holiday weekend, the place was DEAD!  the place looks great.  I hadn't been there since they expanded a few years ago, and it's much more comfortable now.  The service was a bit off, not bad, just off.  but the food was VERY good.  I had the short ribs and couscous, and it was delicious.  Everyone had different entrees, and they were all delicious and well presented.

I'm not a huge fan of entertainment with dinner, but the belly dancer set a nice atmosphere and was never obtrusive.  All in all a very pleasant evening.

A little more expensive then I remembered, but I didn't feel ripped off.

oh, and almost forgot.  It's VERY dark in the restaurant, so if you need glasses to read, make sure you bring them.  The waiter offered small flashlights, which were helpful.  Probably darker than it needs to be, but I liked the ambiance.

We went during restaurant week, always a mixed bag, and without a reservation. We sat in the bar area and received so-so service. (I think perhaps the table next to us left in a huff and from that point on we had great service. Someone else -- maybe a manager or hostess -- started pitching in which helped a lot.)

So forget all that, focus on the food. My god, the food. Amazing. The lamb merguez wrapped in phyllo dough was maybe the most delicious matrimony of meat and flour I've ever come across. The entrees were good, the chocolate soufflé was decadent, and the recommended wine we drank was also superb.

I visited this past week, and I'm now kind of in-love and obsessed with Tangierino.  I have admittedly have never had Morrocan  food before, so I may not be the best judge on authenticity.  However, I absolutely LOVED the food.

My friend and I went there, and I was impressed from the minute we got there, despite the look the valet gave me when I requested to valet park my Kia.  (My friend is slightly handicapped and we needed an quick and easy way for him to enter the restaraunt, so save your looks, buddy!  Small tip for you!  BUT  - VERY handicap friendly and accessible.)

The first thing that you notice immediately is how uber-sexy the interior is.  PERFECT place for a date.  I didn't even realize there was a cigar and hookah part as well - my husband will never want to eat anywhere else!  Just walking in made me feel romantic - really unique atmosphere in the area.

I enjoy trying new ethnic cuisines, especially when I recognize NOTHING.  When a menu reads like a great new book that I'm discovering, I am fairly certain that I'm in for a treat, which I was.  We were welcome with some sesame bread and yummy hummus - on the house.   I am a small portion eater, so I ordered the following:

Chicken Bstila - delicate phyllo pie of chicken, toasted almonds, mint-yogurt sauce ($12)

    My friend ordered:
Boneless Short Ribs - braised in red wine and prunes ($31)

I'll admit, a bit on the pricey side, but for such a unique a lovely atmosphere, AND some really amazing food, well worth the price.

The Chicken Bstila was OMGDELICIOUS.   I took one bite, and I immediately wanted them to bring me about 7 more of them.  I also reach across the table and had a bite of the short ribs - tender, juicy, and really flavorful.  A HUGE portion with plenty left over  that my friend sent home for my husband to have for lunch  the next day (winning).

I want to go back and try everything on the menu.  I didn't have any of the drinks while I was there because I was driving, but on date night, I'll be having a little of everything.   New favorite place in town!

A beautiful place with a cool atmosphere- but it definitely comes at a price.

Each hookah is $30, which is twice as much as it should cost. We didn't get any food, so I can't speak for that but I can't imagine the prices can match the quality (Even munchies were at least $14).

The place is ok, but it is a little out of the way so I probably wouldn't go again.

    * The food is presented beautifully but the taste is below average.

    * Drinks are fantastically prepared and pleasing.

    * Sheesha flavors are superb. Sheesah quality is potent. My first time trying this sheesha had me questioning the legality of the substances they use. You get a MAJOR buzz.. Perhaps it's the tobacco they use or perhaps it's their method of preparation. Whichever it is, they aren't spilling the secrete recipe! I asked !

    * Sheesha is very expensive and this place is very strict about how many people are in your party. You have to rent a certain number of pipes which may be outlandish especially if you know that you and your crew are only dabbling.

    * If anyone in your party is not a smoker, do not bring them. They attempted to charge my friends and I a fee because one of our friends wanted to eat and drink at our table, but not smoke.

    * There were 4 of us. We wanted 1 pipe because only 3 of us were smoking. This venue allows 3 ppl to a pipe (correct me if this has changed). They wanted us to rent 2 pipes which was totally ludicrous. We decided to leave this particular time. We stayed on other occasions of course.

    * You can also rent private rooms at an extra cost so that you and your friends can have some alone time

*On pay day, I say this place is worth the visit with your sheesha loving only friends.

Tangierino is a great hookah bar and restaurant.

Their food and drinks are fantastic (especially the chocolate martini and their chocolate mouse dessert)!

The atmosphere is incredible (belly dancers, beautiful artwork on the walls, a small intimate space).

The shisha is great (I recommend the mango).

And for once, smoking cigarettes is allowed inside!

The only downside to Tangierino is that it can be very expensive.

We went to Tangierino on Halloween night, got there around 6:30pm. When we entered and asked the hostess for a table of two, she asked if we had reservations. We said no, but we called around 12:30 and nobody answered. Her response was, (in a condescending attitude) "Did you leave a message?" No, we did not because we figured it was Halloween night and it would not be that busy. Her reply was "Well it is a Saturday night" so my wife and I thought it was appropriate to correct her and remind her that it was a Friday night.

She said as she looked at her computer screen, "I'll see what I can do". My wife and I looked at each other then around the dining room, I must tell you that there was not another person in this restaurant. NOBODY!

We were seated, and we had the feeling that we just had one of the worst experiences. We were looking forward to a very romantic evening, and enjoy some delicious food. We felt horrible, I asked my wife "are you sure you want to do this before we spend $100 or more"? She did not answer.

We then got up to leave and the nice manager approached us to see why we were leaving. We pointed out that the hostess was very rude and ruined our evening. He was genuinely respectful and apologetic, and asked us to return. We said we won't because the moment was lost, all because of the Hostess. He again apologized and said he would address the situation immediately.

Take a hint, first impressions ARE everything".

We went to the North End and had a wonderful evening. We may try to go again, but Tangierino is out of our way and it took an effort to get there. This was our experience.

This is a bit on the higher end side, but the food was very well prepared. Chicken bstilla and merguez were delicious appetizers and the boneless short ribs was extremely tender. Love the atmosphere of the place and the belly dancers!

This is the ultimate place for a romantic date. They have intimate seating options that really allow you to cozy up and get comfortable and enjoy each other in a little Moroccan nest of pillows and music. The food, delicious. I've never had something disappointing here. The wine list is okay, but you wouldn't come here for wine. Just the atmosphere. They have belly dancers every day of the week, which always adds a little excitement to your meal. And the lounge downstairs is even better! Hookah, plush seating, Tarot Card readings...I mean, can you find another place like this in Boston?

    My review is long overdue.
It's a great place for a romantic date.  The decor has rich colors and dim mood lighting.  I've sat in a quiet corner but it feels like you are sitting on a couch and eating on a coffee table so it was a little awkward.  But I've also sat at the bar and enjoyed the bartender, she was super friendly and funny.
The food is good and rich in flavors.
A con is parking is hard to find.

I ate at Tangierino again Friday night with some friends and it was improved from my first visit, but not excellent.  The service was meh, however the hostess was very welcoming and friendly as she checked on us mid-meal.

I had the blood orange cosmopolitan, OK I had 4 blood orange cosmopolitans, and they were excellent.  Everyone at the table also enjoyed their specialty cocktails.

The appetizer were great and the chicken app did not disappoint!  My meal of spareribs was decent and I did enjoy the vegetable couscous very much.  The other meals were mixed reviews (one lamb dish was proclaimed to be "the best", while another lamb dish was declared "tasteless and overcooked").

I keep hoping for more at this restaurant and maybe the 3rd time will be a charm!

My friends and I went to Tangierino as one of restaurant week choices. We were all super impressed with the decor and extremely excited to be seated in one of the tents. I ordered the Sahara shrimp as my appetizer and the Morrocan eggplant as my main course. Portions are small - the norm in fancier restaurants. I liked the shrimp but the eggplant was amazing. Mixed in were these delicious apricots that I couldn't get enough of. For dessert I had the sorbet duet - lychee and mango. The sorbet was just ok but I was so impressed with the eggplant that I didn't care.

There were five of us in the group and amazingly enough, none of us ordered the same thing. There was praise all around. Apparently the salmon was quite good as is the couscous that is served with the chicken and the short ribs...

The service was friendly from start to finish. All in all, a great experience. :D

Amazing.  The ambiance, decor and food is pretty amazing, not to mention their hookah bar and belly dancing shows during dinner.  Awesome place for groups, but also intimate enough and very romantic for a date.

Cons: Pricey & a difficult area to find parking.

After reading some reviews of other Yelpers, I had some concerns. But for the first time the Yelpers led me astray.

This place is fantastic. The foods was incredible and the setting very opulent. However, the only belly-dancing I like is my own from the treat its working on digesting, so I could do without that affectation.

The tuna tartare was perfect, like like the plate perfect, and the Sashimi Kissed Tuna was flawless and generous. While pricey, it's not overpriced for the quality and complexity of flavors.

A really awesome atmosphere and the food is to die for. You really can't get an experience like this place anywhere else in Boston. The drinks are strong and unique. I would highly recommend this place for any occasion!

Our first trip to Tangierino was an embarrassment, and I don't use that word lightly. We had reservations for two at 9PM on a weekday night, but we arrived 15 minutes early. The place was empty, but we were told to wait at the bar until our table was ready.

We waited... for nearly two hours.

We had to ask about the status of our table many times, and we were given vague excuses for the delay. Meanwhile, we watched as three or four parties were seated ahead of us. It was the worst service I've ever received at a restaurant, let alone a very good (and pricey) restaurant.

Maybe it was because our mouths had been salivating for close to 120 minutes, but our food was actually very good that evening. Large portions of chicken and couscous were brought to our table and we were pleased. Still, the quality of food wasn't nearly good enough to quell our anger at the horrible service. We left ultimately dissatisfied. I got home and wrote a letter.

    Jump ahead two months.

It took weeks (and a follow-up email) for the manager at Tangierino to respond to my letter, but she eventually did. She gave a prompt apology and dismissed the vague excuses. "There should be no excuse," she said, "for service of that kind." She also mailed us a $50 gift certificate.

We've been there since and the service wasn't nearly as bad as the first time. It still wasn't great, though. Tangierino has bad service, it's as simple as that. My recommendation is to complain if it's terrible. At least the manager is trying to rectify the situation.

We went to Tangierino tonight for our anniversary and I must say that it was excellent! We live in Charlestown but this is the first time that we've actually decided to go in.
The restaurant itself was well-decorated and the staff was great. After we sat down they washed our hands in rose water (I've got to get that for home).
We ordered the Eggplant Tagine for an appetizer. It had eggplant, goat cheese and charmoula.
Lisa ordered the Tagine of Lemony Chicken. It was presented in a nice clay pot with couscous. She loved it. I had the Sultans Kadra which had a short rack of lamb with three cheese eggplant, shiitake mushrooms, apricots and a rosemary reduction. Yum!
All in all a great visit. We went a little early for us so the restaurant wasn't crowded at all.

My first impression of this place was that is was a great find in Charlestown, the type of place one seldom finds in Boston: a place to bring friends from out-of-town. It was stylish,  had great food, hookah, great wine list and cocktails, albeit a bit pricey for what it was.  I liked it so much I got a group of us to come here for my boyfriend's birthday.

During the course of the night someone at our table had to move one of the hookahs to accommodate the 2 hookahs (which we were informed that we either need to get 1 hookah/ every 2 people or pay a fee) , the incoming dessert with the candle for the b-day boy, and our drinks.  The bottom part of the hookah broke and the waitress came right over to tell us that we would be paying for it.  Given that the incident wasn't due to our clumsiness but rather trying to manage all of the required table items, we thought this a tad absurd. We spoke to the manager who said that she would be charging us $90 for it because: "this happens all the time and I can't keep paying every time these hookahs break".

One would think that if customers are backed against a wall with the afore mentioned options and subsequently hookahs keep getting broken, then the management would admit who's fault it really is.  Don't you dare speak to your customers about the cost of running your business, it's not our problem, figure it out.

On a side note, we bargained the price of the broken POS down to $60 because we had dropped so much money that night.  Pretty sad when you have to use patronage as a bargaining chip.
