5 reviews for Tama's Sushi Japanese Restaurant
Tried ALOT of places that tout 'sushi' but Tama definitely has the best we've tried in Jax. We had come upon Tama by accident -- drove down to the beach and wanting to eat seafood. Well, we stumbled upon a large green neon sign under an awning.
"Wanna try it?" asked hubby. So we did.
It was dinner time and crowded but we were seated immediatley. Our server was very friendly and made sure we had hot green tea all of the time. We ordered a mixture of nigiri sushi and a tempura plate. Tempura cooked just right -- served piping hot with crispy batter on the outside -- veggies underneath cooked just right.
Sushi pieces were large. unlike 98% of the sushi places in Jax, the Sushi rice was seasoned just right. Wasabi was 'nostril clearing' strength.
All I can say is "Go chi so sama deshita!" (what you say at the conclusion of a delicious meal!) We'll go back for sure!
Great location right in the heart of Atlantic Beach. Just a block from the ocean and right off Atlantic this wonderful sushi bar was very easy to find and a magnificent choice. As soon as I walked in the staff was attentive and polite. The chef even looked up from his busy sushi bar and flashed a smile which added to the warm atmosphere. I ordered the octopus and an order of salmon rolls which were very generously portioned and fresh. When i am back in the area this will definitely be my go-to place for some sushi!
Tasty, fresh fish. Friendly, charming service. Do you really need anything else? This was the scene of a recent girl's night out. We started with miso soup (on the house), which was extremely clean in flavor. Then came the Vegetable Tempura--it was light, crispy and perfectly cooked. For the sushi, we shared a few rolls, all of which were terrific. Service was great, friendly and not too rushed. Tama is definitely popular among local as the dining room was steady throughout our meal. I can't wait to return!
This venerable Neptune Beach sushi spot was a happy discovery. It was a recommendation by someone on a dating website (I know - funny huh) as a great spot on the beach. As I'm a transplant from Denver, CO I treasure great and fresh fish.
I started with their miso soup (delicious!). I ordered a variety of sashimi, sushi, and a couple of rolls. The fish was exceptionally fresh and had a perfect consistency. This was the first time I had Grouper as sushi (I love grouper as a meal - steamed/grilled/broiled etc) and I truly enjoyed it.
They had a good Saki and beer list as well. The staff were incredibly friendly and made it a great dining experience. Definitely going back soon!
Had my Sunday dinner at Tama's sushi last night. Excellent hamachi sashimi, ikura handroll was good, and the squid salad was pretty good too. Their seaweed salad is tasty as well. Sushi chef has been trained in Japan and has generous cuts of fish. Sat at the sushi bar and had a great meal - definitely going back next Sunday.
