I popped in to Taj Mahal Imports after eating lunch at Cafe Bombay and while I don't know much about the Indian culture, I do know a little something about authentic and this place is 100% authentic. You can get anything from cookware, to decorations, to gifts, food, books and other original authentic Indian items from this imports store.
I looked around fro a while and was engulfed by the different smells and sights. Pretty much like a kid in a candy store. The only problem was, I wasn't in shock and awe by yummy sweet treats. Actually? It was caused by everything. There are some stores you can go in and get what you need and get right out. But then there are those stores that you walk through and you look at everything you can holding on to the memories what you saw.

I was curious and wanted to try something out of the store so a nice passer by (Indian lady) offered these really cool looking strawberry cream cookies. "These are really good. You should try them for an authentic Indian treat" is what she said to us.

Cool! Ok, and so we did. She was right. They are a light airy crispy cookie with a sweet strawberry cream coating on one side. Needless to say - we ate the entire box in the car on the ride home.

So while that should fulfill my Indian food craving for some time, I like this place for being 100% authentic. It's a really cool place to browse through, and if your Indian looking for a bit of home. Go here. Yeah, I'm a fan.

It reminds me of any import store filled with a selection of cookware, food (frozen, boxed, can, wrapped, and some fresh), household products, CDs and DVDs (VHS!), and toys. Oh, and my favorite part about any import store, the variety of candy.

I figure, candy is probably the best way to try something new from another culture. It's not expensive. It's a bit different. And it's sweet! SWEET!

Taj Mahal did have a selection of Indian candies and cookies. They even had homemade baked candies in multiple shapes and colors by the cash register. Yum!
