Alas....I drove by Taiko yesterday and it appears that a sandwich shop is going up in its place.  The reviews don't lie - this place was amazing!  I went so frequently that one of the servers knew my order by heart!  The sushi was consistently of solid quality and quite inexpensive!   It was close to work with a friendly atmosphere.

This place will be sorely missed!

I'v had sushi at a few other places but nothing as good as Taiko.  Hand rolled as ordered so this isnt your 'fast food' sushi joint.  Expect to be here a while as your order is made to your specifications.  The wait is worth every bite!!

After living in Los Angeles I KNOW good sushi. I was surprised when I moved back here only to find that at the time I lived in Mounds View a little sushi place had opened up in the old Donut Connection!
I didn't have the high of expectation when I went the first time, mostly because when you look at the building, and actually walk inside you definitely don't expect good sushi, more like "average."

I was greeted by a very smiley young Japanese woman whom I later learned was also one of the owners. She sat us and came back minutes later to take our order.
The service, while not quite as fast as some places, is quite good! Because it is a smaller restaurant they take their time in making the roll presentable rather than just slapping it together like places that have three chef's on to serve their high volume clientelle.

The sushi is actually delicious! I can say honestly that I wasn't expecting much, but I got it and more! For a reasonable price considering it was sushi, I got three rolls and saki! I will be going back!

I like it but only go for lunch. Service can be unpredictable. If the place were any bigger the customers would starve. If it was any smaller the owners would starve.

Used to be a lot better.  When I first tried this place a year or two ago, the sushi was cheap, the fish was fresh, the portions generous, and the service prompt.  Things have gotten progressively worse over the last year or so.  It's not any busier, and it's still the owner preparing the sushi, though the service has gotten 2-3 times slower, the rolls sloppier, the edamame is barely warm with beans that are cold mixed in.  I'm not sure what happened.  This place used to be a great dive sushi place, but now I can't really recommend it.

I will vouch for the John's Roll on their page of custom rolls, though.  That thing is delicious, and is one of the main reasons I consider going back from time to time.

SLOOOOOOOW services! My stomach was about to eat itself while we waited 45min for our first plate of food. Mind you, we were the ONLY customers in the entire restaurant! Dude, did they go fishing for the fish to make our sushi?

So, being that I was in Minnesota, I had super low expectations for a sushi restaurant. Rice was cold and hard. Fish was not very fresh. The rainbow roll had big pieces of fried eggs on it??? who puts eggs on a rainbow roll?

    total flop!

    Good sushi. Not too spendy.

I never had any problem with service but I have only done take out.

Yeah, it looks a little scary from the outside, but on the inside it is nice. And the girl working was super cute and sweet!

This place is weird. We went on Saturday night because I was craving sushi and this place had all awesome reviews. I love little dives, so I thought, sweet! A little dive sushi spot, I'm all for.

Well, it is a weird little place, that I'm guessing used to be a McDonald's. It is really dark from the outside and really poorly lit in the inside. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with this huge waft of fish odor. I understand it is a sushi restaurant, but holy cow. I really wanted to turn around and walk back out, but the place is so small that it would have been rude. I remember the reviews sayind don't judge it by the environment, but it was so hard not to.

We ordered tea and it was horrible. Do yourself a favor and just skip it. It is luke warm and green tea and with the fish smell, I really didn't even want sushi after that. But ordered anyway.

We only ordered 4 rolls and they had 2 guys working on it. It took 20 min to get served a seaweed salad and about an hour to get our rolls. They were good and the seafood part was fresh. I like my sushi pretty cold though and the fish was slightly warmer than I like, but maybe I'm picky. The rice was way too sticky though and wasn't made properly. The rolls were pretty small too, but for the price, I can forgive that.

I dunno. I don't consider myself to be a sushi snob, but have been spoiled by another sushi chef, who I think has ruined me for all other places. I'd say go at your own risk. If you can get past the environment, it's alright for a quick fix..well, if you are willing to wait. I don't think I'll go again though. It's just alright.

Went there once last year to get a take out. I ordered the chirashi bowl, and the spicy salmon rolls. The rice seemed old, but the fish was fresh and the portion was generous for the price.

Possibly the worst place that i have eaten in the last five years.  Slow service, marginal food, terrible dinning room and still as expensive as other sushi places.  Take the time to drive into Minneapolis and eat at Pizza Luce' or French Meadow.
