come expecting a cheap friendly crash pad and you'll be perfectly happy.  stayed in #24.  at $69 midweek, it was the cheapest spot in town.  and the location is perfect.  safeway, mcd's and decent coffee shop are next door; everything else in Tahoe City is an easy walk (or stumble).   king bed, fridge and microwave.  heart-shaped in-room shower/tub thing hearkens to another day (2006 maybe?) but the decor is otherwise modern/ikea enough to make the shower a light joke patiently waiting to eventually be remodeled away.

bottom line here:  impress your wallet, not your girlfriend

They lost our reservation, even though we booked it through their site. They told us they did not have room Saturday night, even though we later heard of other customers walking in without a reservation and getting a room for that night.

I hate writing negative reviews, so I'll preface this by saying that this review is ONLY for ROOM 33 and that I did notify the front desk about the room's defaults so hopefully they will make the necessary changes (though the lady at the front seemed disinterested in my complaints).

    - The blinds don't close all the way! At night, you can see inside from the sidewalk. I'd like to think I pay for privacy when I pay $140 for a hotel room...

    - The carpet is absolutely filthy. Carpets will understandably get dirty faster in a snowy place, but the carpet here looks so old and dirty I took my socks off once and regretted it. (see Photo)

    - The bathroom had all sorts of problems. 1) The main concern was the mildewed shower head (see Photo). GROSS! 2) The painted tiles in the shower are peeling to reveal 2 different color tiles. I think it's time for a retiling. 3) The toilet paper roll was almost done when we first got there. 4) Lots of dust on and around the toilet. Who cleans at this Inn? I hate cleaning bathrooms too, but I pay for you to do this!

    - Odd lamps. Light bulbs without any kind of cover. (see Photo) Bedside lamps that only work with the light switch by the door.

    - Continental breakfast was decent (see PROS below) but the front desk lady was very unpleasant. When we informed her that the coffee was out, she annoyedly said, "AGAIN?!" We could only respond with an "I guess so," as we obviously didn't just down 5 cups of coffee! Bad service irks me like nothing else. You work in hospitality! Not hostility! If  you don't want to serve me coffee, stop offering it! Lady also seemed annoyed that we wanted more than one banana to share amongst the three of us. If you can, maybe refrain from bothering her and scrounge around in the cupboards for anything you may need to ask her for. She'd probably appreciate being left alone.

    - Top fifth of the TV screen in the room was distorted. Though, with only 6 channels to choose from, you probably won't really care.

    - Bring your own towel if you stay here. Their towels are paper thin and sandpaper rough. Good for exfoliation, as one of my friends put it.

Despite all my grumbling, there were some pros!
    PROS:
    - Hot shower
    - Mini fridge and microwave
    - No bed bugs (though... hotel guests should be able to expect this)
    - Bed was surprisingly comfortable
    - A mounted bottle opener in the bathroom (odd, but you never know when you'll need one!)
    - Proximity to restaurants and shops (lots within 5 min walking)
    - Continental breakfast (bagels, cream cheese, cereal--Frosted Flakes + Cheerios, packaged muffins, oranges and bananas, instant oatmeal, coffee, tea) in a pretty, clean back room with large TV
    - Fake fireplace heater (ooh, ambiance!)

    Other info :
    - Internet for $10 a day
    - Free VHS rentals (I saw that they had SATC on top of all the VHS you'd expect, like Scarface, Liar Liar, and Fried Green Tomatoes)
    - If you can, try to get a room on the ground floor. They looked nicer!

Tahoe City Inn is not a shit hole. A shit hole is dirty and smelly. This place is clean. What Tahoe City Inn IS is an over priced motel.

The rooms have no real windows. The breakfast is little debby sweets. Internet is an extra $10 a night. The VCR was not even plugged in correctly. The beds are on nonlockable wheels and slide when you sit up against the wall. And all this for $145 a night!

I've been to places in Rome that offered more for less. If there's no place else to go in all of Tahoe it is a clean room, but not much else.

I went here with an ex three years ago.  We got - no I got the deluxe suite.  At that time, I still hadn't figured out that paying for both my boyfriend and I to stay in a hotel was wack, bunk, just plain old fucked up. I also hadn't figured out how to tell the difference between seedy hotels and cheap hotels.  There is a difference.

Anyways, the deluxe suite was $10 more expensive, it came with a King instead of a Queen, a pink heart-shaped tub, and a goodie bag upon check in.  Hells yeah.  Giddyup!

I took one look at the tub and said HELL NO I'm not going in there (but kind of wanting to deep inside) - I imagined some washed up whore from Carson City giving her senior citizen boyfriend a sponge bath in it after hitchhiking to Tahoe City.  There are mirrors everywhere.  On the ceiling, the walls of the shower over the heart tub, with no curtain mind you, just mirrors EVERYWHERE.

The goodie bag was the best part.  The contents were much like the contents of a talk thread not too long ago on the topic of "What's in your "just in case it's an overnight" bag?"

    Condoms
    KY
    coffee
    tea
Latex Gloves (not kidding on this one)
    shampoo
    a bar of soap
    Bumble&Bumble hair powder (kidding)

Everything was kind of reasonable except  the gloves.  We should have left right then.  We didn't though, it was the cheapest hotel in Tahoe City.  We were cheap.  This was my first lesson in choosing a hotel last minute.  We had a fun weekend because we were in love, but it's definitely not a place I'd go back to for health reasons.  Every time I drive past the place and I see a family coming out of a room or something, I feel bad.  They got suckered and had to listen to their kids all weekend beg to take a bath in the heart shaped tub.

Never, ever again.   Have gone a few times in the past and overlooked the seediness (which is a benefit to some).   But this time was a nightmare.   There was no hot water (though there were less than 5 cars in the parking lot.

For a place to advertise hot tubs in the room and have no hot water is ridiculous regardless of the price (Ethical Blunder #1).
The plumber elves have invented a device called ON DEMAND WATER HEATERS which the owners either don't realize exist or more likely are too cheap to buy.

When we decided to leave (after waiting awhile with still no hot water), the manager said we would still be charged for both nights (Ethical Blunder #2).

So if you plan on staying here, be forewarned.  If they still charge you, call your credit card company right away (within 30 minutes) so they can reverse the charges.

The staff at the Tahoe City Inn are the friendliest bunch you will ever meet. I'll be honest, the price was the main factor for choosing the Tahoe City Inn, but I am very shocked at the negative reviews making this place sound like a hole in the wall...it is not.  But also don't expect a 5 star hotel, thats just unreasonable and unfair. I would give this place 6 stars if i could... based on the price, very attentive and friendly staff, complimentary breakfast and clean rooms.  The room in which the reviewer is referring to with the heart shaped tub is supposed to be odd, quirky and different! If someone doesn't get it, then they shouldn't book that room.

THey are redoing their lobby which will be a great addition to the hotel. A beautiful, large fireplace, a large flat screen LCD, bar and cozy atmosphere will really complete your stay.

Give the Tahoe City Inn a chance, and you will not be disappointed especially with the price.  Its so close to Squaw and Homewood, you would be hard pressed to find a better value in tahoe

This place is freaking awesome.  Cheap; clean; HUGE rooms; incredibly friendly, personable, helpful late-night manager (even after I bothered her by frantically calling her twice on her way in to work!); they've really got it all.  I don't know how convenient it is for snow sports, but for climbing at several local crags the area can't be beat.  Basically, the place saved our asses really late on a terrible night.  Just getting a bed would have been great, but this was above and beyond any reasonable expectation.

Moldy rooms, bad beds, they say they allow dogs then give you REALLY hard time if you have one.  I had to move rooms because the black mold in the first room was so bad I was having breathing issues.  Unfortunately, I prepaid and couldn't get my money back.

The guys that run the desk are nice and if you like costco muffins you'd like the breakfast, but I will never stay here again, and suggest you don't either.

This place needs a MAJOR overhaul and I'm surprized the health inspector haven't shut them down yet.

We were making a last minute trip to Tahoe to celebrate a friend's birthday and we needed to find a hotel room that would allow our wonderful dog, Iggy.  I'd called a few places, but the Tahoe City Inn was the first that sounded willing to accommodate us.  The man said that they accepted small dogs.  I thought I was out of luck, because Iggy is a 70 pound boxer, but the man said that as long as he has short hair, we would be fine.

We got in at about 10:30 pm, and even though the desk was closed, we managed to rouse an employee who very graciously checked us in.  The heart shaped tub - totally there, as well as a king size bed with Ikea duvet, TV, VCR, small fridge, coffee pot and a microwave.  Yes, it's a little dated.  But, it was certainly clean enough and a very comfortable space.  The staff were extremely helpful.  Overall, I was extremely pleased.  No, it's not a place I would call home, but it was certainly good enough to rest our heads for a few nights.

Incidentally, two weeks ago we were in Manhattan in a Grand Hyatt.  We spent 5 times as much there, and we were just as comfortable at the Tahoe City Inn.  And we got to watch RoadHouse on VHS.  Priceless.

When you have next to no money but you really want to go snowboarding, this is a place you go. Now that I make decent money for a living I'd never do it again but there are some stages in your life where a bed and a shower are all you need.

Where do I start? I know...this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The bathtub/shower was in the main part of the room with only a partial shower curtain. Just what I want...to take a shower with no privacy after a long day of skiing. Oh, and the bathtub is heart shaped. On top of this, the bathroom door wouldn't shut and you could hear other guests in other rooms using the restroom through the wall (GROSS!). The final straw was that the room absolutely reeked of cigarettes. When we left the hotel all of our things were covered in that stank for the entire drive back home. If you are looking for a hotel to stay at in Tahoe City do not stay here. Try one of the other hotels/motels on the street like Lake of the Sky Motor Inn or America's Best Value Inn.

Cheap, clean and sturdy.  Safeway and CVS within walking distance. Good restaurants within walking distance. The only reason I mention sturdy is because the place had about 5' of snow on the roof while we were there.

My bf and I stayed here on a Wednesday night for a quick, spur of the moment trip to Squaw.  The room was really cheap and ~10 minutes from Squaw.  Although people were complaining about the room, I thought that the room was really cute.  Yes, there was a heart shaped bathtub- but I just used shower sandals in it and showered off.  (I never use hotel bathtubs, no matter how "clean" or "new" the room is anyway!)  The TV was a flat screen Vizio and the same one I have at home.  The king sized bed was spacious and decently comfortable.  The heating in the room was very good and quiet.  Also, I loved the fake fireplace that they had in the room- I thought it was cute and I enjoyed just having it on and chatting with my bf by the "fire."  Also, the gal working the desk was really nice, AND they have a huge library of (old) VHS tapes that you can borrow and watch in your room.  Really?  Is there that much to complain about??  Especially at the price you're paying???
