There's a lot of adventure outfitters in Moab but in my opinion, we lucked out when we chose Tag-a-long to lead some of our outings.  We chose a two day package that included a Canyonlands National Park 4x4 tour the first day and a half day (four hour) river rafting trip the next.

The 4x4 ride was great because it gives you access to land that you otherwise might not see in the park.. unless you are an off-roading enthusiast that already knows your way around.  Of course I appreciated not having to drive around and I was free to snap pictures.  Along the way, we were treated to lot of interesting plants, geological features, and great views of the Colorado River.

The river rafting trip was maybe class 2 (CA rating) or class 1 (Grand Canyon) rapids.  If you want some crazy rolling waves, maybe you should pursue a route further down the river or something along the Snake River.  Moab's pretty hot, so make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and wear your swimsuit so you can jump into the river when the river gets placid.

Overall, we came into the tours with the appropriate expectations and were not disappointed.  Everything was fun and the tour guides were very knowledgeable, amiable and funny.  If you've got the time and the dough, Tag-a-long is an outfitter that is well equipped to help maximize your recreation time in Moab.

Tag-A-Long Expeditions serves visitors to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and river enthusiasts for the Colorado River in conjunction with Moab, Utah.

Mini expeditions are a brief as 4 hours long. The narrated 4x4 or jet boat tours of Arches and/or Canyonlands National Parks really inform you about the flora and fauna, amazing geology and local history. The half-day raft is simple enough for youngsters. Tag-A-Long Expeditions permit visitors to combine any of these short programs to create a one day tour which includes lunch.

Prefer Rafting? Tag-A-Long Expeditions has rafting for a 40 pound child and whitewater rafting for enthusiasts. Know that canyon rafting is a different experience. There are elements of flatwater to reach the remote whitewater stretches of Westwater or Cataract Canyon. These trips can be a long day trip or camping trips are also available.

Tag-A-Long has exceptional opportunities. Four wheel drive tours, requiring camping, can immerse you in the Maze or Needles Districts of Canyonlands National Parks and these are also combinable for a longer stay and fuller immersion.

Awesome experience.  A busy spot (which is a good thing) that always has tours going out.  We did the 1/2 day of 4x4 through Islands in the Sky and 1/2 day rafting.  Both were fantastic, although if you have to pick one--definitely do the Islands 4x4.  Very friendly staff and guides.

Specialties

River rafting and 4x4 tours since 1964 means we have the most experience and the most back country permits in the area.  Basically, if you can dream it, we can help make your dream reality.

History

Established in 1964

Tag A Long Tours' founder, Mitch Williams, was born to Moab's first doctor. 'Doc Williams' traveled cross-country by horse to attend the ill and injured. He never did drive a vehicle. Mitch was well aware of the intricate canyon systems through his father.

In 1964, Canyonlands National Park was created. Mitch understood visitors would be intimidated by this remote land and offered his local knowledge of the area to navigate the backcountry. At first, drivers would "tagalong", following Mitch's lead. Soon visitors preferred to ride with Mitch to enable them to hear more stories about the region. By the 1970s river outfitting was growing from the legendary journeys of Grand Canyon adventurers of the previous decades.

Enter Bob Jones and Paul Niskanen in 1981. They changed the name to Tag-A-Long Expeditions to give a sense of the variety of back country adventures available to visitors. Tag-A-Long still believes a great adventure includes great stories.
