We came here before going to see OVO at the sm pier.
BF ordered enchiladas. He loved.
I got a carne asada burrrito. It was good but came out kinda on the room temp/cool side. I would have preferred HOT!
YUMMY spicy salsa.
I'd go back if I was in the area. -

More Tacos POR FAVOR!! they say it in their slogan " We make healthy mexican food that just taste great" For real. They got a sign that says, No Lard, we use roma tomatoes and we don't use corn oil." The food is so fresh and so clean clean, that basically, it doesn't matter what the restaurant looks like. So cheap. The freshness of the food really does shine through. I don't know what the heck they are using to replace the supposedly flavor-adding fillers, but its working and I'm HOOKED like a fish on a line. I'm not too much of a spicy person. So I appreciated the fact that the distinct flavors shined through, without my tongue being "on fire."
If its your first time, I might recommend the carne asada to start. The bits of cilantro mixed in with fresh onions along with the strips of beef really melded well together.
The cilantro and fresh, solid veggies are the x factor here, in the burritos and the salsa. Gosh, the salsa. They got a self serve bar for guacamole, salsa; I found myself grinding through cup after cup of salsa until I ran outta chips.
So its Monday night, almost 8 pm, tucked in a corner at a somewhat deserted part of town. Yet still packed, a steady stream of customers milling in. You want healthy Mexican? It does exist. -

I L-O-V-E this place!! I eat here on a regular basis, as it is a short walk from my work. I have eaten here 20+ times and have never been disappointed! Their California Burritos are probably the best I have ever had! The carne asada is really tender and has great taste. I am very picky about carne asada and this stuff is good, it idoes not have a lot of fat/gristle and tastes great. The chips are always good and they have a great salsa bar.
I also recommend spend the extra dollar or so and get the Mexican Pepsi or Coke that is made with real cane sugar instead of corn syrup. You can definitely taste the difference.
I would also like to offer a rebuttal to an earlier reviewer (I think it was Jennifer R or something like that?) that said she could not find good Mexcian food since she moved up here from San Diego and compared Tacos Por favor to TexMex. This is NOTHING like TexMex! This is authentic Mexican food made healthy!
I would give this place 6 stars if I could!!! -

I love this place! though it looks like a whole in the wall type of restaurant from the outside, they really serve authentic Mexican food that is so good. Try their tacos, of course, but their chicken soup is also very good.

This place is super close to my apartment and I was sooo curious about the reviews and finally tried it! Pretty good! Not as good as El Chato but still satisfying!
Came here during a weekday and the place is big so there's a lot of places to sit. Ordered at the cashier (there's a menu at the cashier area) as I was getting confused just looking at the menu attached to the wall since I just wanted some tacos. Ordered al pastor tacos and also helped myself to the salsa bar. Was pretty satisfied and would definitely come back. Tacos go for about $2.25 here. Street parking only. -
Review from Eriko P.
5 stars for the food! 1star for the interior decor. So I evened it out by giving them 4 stars. I have always driven by this joint. I say joint because that's what it looks like from the exterior, driving by. It's true! Once inside, the decor hasn't been changed since they opened up: faded RC Gorman posters, and 1/3 of the room is dedicated to storage. They have put up a curtain to cover it all. No frills about this place, BUT!!! Try the food! We both ordered soft tacos. I ordered the mahi mahi and chicken, my husband ordered the carne asada taco. All three were delicious! I crave them now!!! The only thing lacking is shredded lettuce or cabbage, but that's my personal preference. The place was filled and most folks eating had delicious food on their plates. Many folks were there just for food to go! I am so happy, I finally decided to check out this little neighborhood place. I would never go here on a first date! However, take out, bring it home and tell them you made it! Go figure! Simple good food, and that's all. PERFECT!

I'm a huge fan of how they fight to keep Mexican food healthy as that's what I usually struggle with in general towards Mexican food.
I ordered the Spinach Burrito and was so glad I got a burrito that matched its money's worth! The salsa bar was a great thing to have as the red sauce as well as the salsa there really spiced up my burrito and really brought it to life!
Though, as I'm vegetarian, I wished I could have tried this other burrito that my two friends raved about as it had sour cream, guacamole, carne, FRENCH FRIES...I don't recall the name BUT TRY THIS IF YOU'RE NOT VEGETARIAN! One of my friends was a girl that usually tends to get sick of burritos halfway but she ended up finishing as she couldn't stop eating. It was that good!
Wish there was a vegetarian alternative. The location was surprising as I wouldn't expect this place somewhere in Santa Monica! -

What an amazing Yelp find. With hundreds of reviews I suppose this Santa Monica based taqueria is no secret. Nevertheless you'll look like you're "in the know" with your out-of-town Los Angeles guests when you combine a touristy, shopping, or beach trip with an inexpensive lunch at a convenient but seemingly "hidden" taqueria.
I did not venture far from the carne asada taco and the al pastor taco (both soft please) that everyone jocks. DELICIOUS.
I also tried the guacamole and chips which scored less points with me. The flavor is fantastic, but I prefer chunky fork smashed guac and there's is extremely smooth. The bottomless plate of chips was appreciated but definitely not the beat chips around. -

I had the carne asada burrito and really liked it. The meat was lean and flavorful. The burrito didn't have any tomatoes and cheese, so it wasn't sloppy and wet, which was good. The pico de gallo was fresh and the spicy red sauce added the heat that I require. I will definitely come here again and try the breakfast burrito.
My dad had the chicken breast burrito and said it was really good, too.
It's definitely a dive. -

You'd think finding good tacos in Los Angeles would be easy. Ya, you'd be wrong, too. Taco offerings are diluted across this city. Just because there is a legal requirement that a taco stand or truck be within .37 miles of you at all moments when in L.A. County doesn't mean that those local tacos are necessarily going to be very good.
Some days, it seems your best options for a good taco in L.A. are the following:
a) Actually drag your butt down to Mexico (and past TJ)
b) Move in with a Mexican family (Trabajara para tacos)
c) Stalk one of L.A.'s famous taco trucks (like Tacos El Korita, Leo's, or El Chato)
d) Give up and just eat some lame taco pretender at your local taco joint
Well, now that I've discovered Tacos Por Favor in Santa Monica, I can get a decent taco north of the 10 and west of the 405. Huge thanks to Olivia for introducing me to this local legend. I tried dos tacos.
The Carne Asada (Steak) Soft Taco and Lengua (Beef Tongue) Soft Taco were muy sabroso. Tender meat, powerful flavors, and excellent tortillas sure taste great together when done right. I got Guacamole on the Lengua Taco and it was even better.
Another great find was the house spicy and smoky Salsa. With two tacos and a bag of Tortilla Chips, I finished 3 small containers of the salsa while mixing in some pickled Jalapenos. Muy Picante!
I may not be a Tacotarian, but Tacos Por Favor was taco-rific! Esta Rico!Listed in: Latin American, Carribean, and…, Must Be Santa Monica

I absolutely love this place.
They are fast, reasonably priced, have great food, and parking is easy (across the street on Olympic).
I get the chorizo breakfast burrito, and it's always hit the spot. The salsa is great. I would recommend SKIPPING the horchata - - - it was disappointing. -

My boy J Lowe turned me on to this place. He told me that I would not be disappointed if I hit this spot up. Now, coming from Chicago where the burrito spots are all over - I expect big things from my burrito place.
I rolled into TPF and it looked like your standard Mexican spot. I stepped up and ordered three tacos (chicken, steak and pork) on white tortilla with fries. The food was out in less than 5 minutes. They got the order right. I saw mad people rushing to get red salsa that was out. I went over to inquire and this lil ole white lady was like this salsa is off the hook! Maybe not in those exact words! I grabbed some, loaded my bag up and bounced.
I got back my office and unloaded on these tacos! THERE WERE DELICIOUS! No lie! The steak is by far the best; it was well seasoned and spiced just right. The chicken was all chicken breast and was just as tasty. The pork was good but was nothing like the steak and chicken. I eat that whole thing in about 10 minutes - so right now I am not feeling too great!
Give this place a shot if you want just good ole tacos and burritos. If you looking for a sit down meal then I cannot help you here. I am definitely making this spot a regular haunt! -
Review from Siqi Z.
Tacos please has never been part of my vocabulary, but Tacos Por Favor will now be. The Yelp app helped me find this Mexican restaurant close to Santa Monica College. Gracias Yelp.
The tacos were so good that I went TWICE in the same day. I hadn't had tacos twice in a month until today. My favorite was the fried fish soft taco with sour cream. The shrimp soft taco with guacamole was also amazing. The carne asada steak taco and lengua tacos were good, too.
The guy taking my order the last time recommended the hard tacos or a burrito. Since the tacos were good, I might be willing to trust him.
Tacos Por Favor is a great find. Tasty Mexican food for less than $10.
Mucho gracias Yelp. -

This has really good Mexican food at a good price. The carne asada tacos are great. They load on the lettuce and tomato and cheese over the top so it is almost like a tostado without the beans. No lard here and you feel somewhat healthy when you leave. The ambience is very relaxed. You order at the front and seat yourself. The salsa bar is really good. Green sauce is the best.

Not like they need another review - they have over 500 already - but this place is great! I love the "no lard, fresh ingredients" sign inside. And they had horchada, which i've wanted to try for a while. I was previously in a burrito club in Philadelphia, and thought I'd never again see an entirely guacamole burrito, but they have it here.
I had the chorizo/cheeze burrito. Complete satisfaction, tight wrap for handholding greatness, chips on the side, good spice, not too much rice. All good! My first LA burrito. YUM!
(Additionally, when my husband dropped his credit card, they were really great to find us and return it.) -

What to eat when you are a starving monster? Burrito at this place.
Played 6 hours of volleyball and you can imagine the appetite that works up. Headed to this hole in the wall restaurant and had a pretty awesome carne asada burrito. Came with chips. They also sell soda in old school bottles made with natural cane sugar. Nostalgic touch. I like it. There was a salsa bar where you can choose the spiciness to your taste.
I will be back here.

If you're in Santa Monica for whatever reason, please, please go to Tacos Por Favor.
This place is THE go to place for cheap, quick, good tasting Mexican food. Lets not get it twisted, this isn't San Diego level but it is good for LA especially for the west side.
I work down the road, so when lunch time rolls in, and we're in the mood we need to decide by 11am because this places gets packed for lunchtime, especially Fridays, we call it in (to avoid the long outside lines) pick it up and off we go!
Here's what I've tried:
Chicken quesadilla
Carnitas burrito
Shrimp burrito
Torta
Fish / Carnitas Tacos
Horchata
If I added what my co-workers have eaten it'd be the whole menu. If you're a meat lover I suggest the carnitas burrito, it's my favorite item on the menu. Fairly big place, it's a eat quick and leave kind of place, order up at the counter, grab a table, and wait for your number to be called. I highly recommend the red salsa if you like spicy.
Our office is moving soon... so trying to eat as much Tacos Por Favor as I can....see you there. -

My first time at TPF and I'm hooked!
Chicken soft taco - Generous helping of marinated chicken. Slightly dry because it's shredded breast meat, but still very flavorful. Dump a little red or green spicy (yes, it's spicy) sauce and some chunky salsa and you're good to go.
Sauteed Mahi Mahi fish taco - Large, chunky fish pieces, but a little too dry for me. I'll probably skip this one next time. Cream sauce is cool and refreshing.
Carne Asada soft taco - My favorite. Chopped up with onions and cilantro. Good spices and not too salty.
My order also came with a bag of tasty, crunchy chips. Three tacos was a little too much for me. These are not small tacos. Two suffices for lunch.
TPF earns review #300. I aim to hit up this place for lunch at least once a week. I heard good things about the tongue and carnitas burrito. I'll hit that up next time. -
Review from Aasim K.
Being from NorCal I've been told by many that I have no idea what Mexican food is supposed to taste like. I brushed this off for years when I lived there, but having moved down recently I must recant some statements I've made in the past. Shit is legit down here.
Tacos Por Favor is a great little family-owned spot off Olympic. The food is incredibly fresh, flavorful, and if you have a light afternoon planned at work - you can totally go all out and stuff your face in foodie delight.
My favorites: Al Pastor Torta, Chile Rellano, and Crispy Tacos. -

Santa Monica, CA
This place is definitely hole-in-the-wall. It's got cement floors and doesn't look pretty or clean but THE FOOD IS GOOD. The cheese is bomb digg. Food comes w chips and there's a salsa bar. You MUST TRY the:
Carne Asada Tacos- Hard shell - comes with lettuce pico de gallo, guac sour cream & CHEESE
Salsa Bar- The pickled Veggies!! Green sauce is good too!
The crunchy carne asada taco is sooo good the day after a night of drinking (or while drinking)! Greesy crunchy goodness.. The hard taco doesn't have that old oil residue or smell/taste. Its fresh and delightful! Carne Asada burrito is good too if u feel like a burrito (a lot of rice tho) and the tacos al pastor has a nice kick but was too chewy or something w the onions for me.. the carne asada is better in my opinion. The guac is a bit over priced for a itsy bitsy teeny mini for like 2 bucks, but its good stuff. -

Had a veggie sope and chicken taco, my friend had a taco and the chile relleneos. 6 pm, got taken care of pretty quickly. Oh and not to mention DELICIOUS Mexican food. It tasted very fresh, was nice and filling - and it was a really relaxed atmosphere. Plus, 2 people, 2 items each and 2 cokes for $25 - decently priced, which is so rad.
There's not really much else to say other than Tacos Por Favor is a delicious casual Mexican spot in Santa Monica. Yum! -
Review from Jason K.
I don't know where to begin with this place. It is probably my top fast food Mexican restaurant now. It's not really fast food like Taco Bell or anything, but it's fast and cheap. But it is awesome. Like, it really surprised and impressed me.
I happened to find a spot just down the street and put in a quarter for 20 minutes of time, then made my way inside behind a family of four walking from home to the restaurant. Inside, the restaurant is pretty spacious. I got in the line that led to the registers and reviewed the menu. Lots of choices. I decided to order a pretty large variety of tacos to get a good sampling. After ordering I visited the salsa bar and got a cup of the pico de gallo, red hot sauce, and green hot sauce. Then I sat down and waited for my order to be called.
About 5 minutes later, my number was called and I went to pick it up. They accidentally missed one of my items so I mentioned it to one of the guys behind the counter and he assembled it for me in 30 seconds and then it was on my tray.
Al pastor taco - Served on two soft corn tortillas with onions and cilantro and some sauce. The meat was very flavorful and very tender. Excellent.
Carnitas taco - Served same as above. Just as tender and awesome.
Carne asada - Long strips of steak instead of little chunks like usual. I noticed a really fatty piece right on top, so I removed it and ate the rest. Very tender, but I preferred the two pork tacos.
Hard taco with beef and no sour cream - This thing looked like a salad wrapped in a taco shell. It was full of lettuce, tomato, and topped with queso fresco. Most of that fell out when I took my first bite, but the beef underneath was well cooked. The guacamole added a nice creaminess. All in all, good but not my favorite.
Rice and beans - The rice was well flavored, but the beans were a little bland. I added some of the salsa to both and that helped a lot.
Chips - Crispy and tasty.
Salsa - This might be the reason why I loved everything so much. The salsa here is fantastic. It has a nice spicy kick, but the real plus is that each has a ridiculous amount of flavor (the red and green one, not the pico de gallo). I just dipped my fork into each before I even began eating and I knew they were gonna make everything better. Amazing salsa.
I also want to mention that each soft taco was pretty full of meat and was a good size. I usually hesitate when a taco is listed for over $2, but the value of these tacos were met. I can't wait to eat here again. So much food for $13!
Summary: Limited parking. Excellent salsa! Great al pastor and carnitas. Carne asada is also good. Hard tacos are so so. Beans and rice are excellent when mixed with the salsa. Great value. Decent sized portions. Excellent quality and taste. You need to check this place out. -

OK - great place, great lunch - check out their Mole burrito. That's mole with an accent on the e. Not the animal.
Lots of food - great value. I have been here three times since I found out about it through a co-worker. If you are not looking hard, you can miss it as you drive by on Olympic. -

Freaking TPF...
It's hard for me to frequent Santa Monica nowadays but I still get cravings for their hard shell tacos and it pisses me off so much.
I haven't had much outside of the tacos. never really needed to. All meats were good. carnitas, lengua, carne asada, you name it I've had it taco form at some point.
It gets pretty busy during lunch hour so I always tend to go right before, around 1145 just to beat the rush.
There isn't much to the place. Put your order in and wait for you number. collect all the salsa you want, and proceed to sit and stuff your pie hole.
I need a trip soon, I tried another taco place, thinking my hard taco craving would go away and it just made me crave it even more.... -

Santa Monica, CA
I was dying to try Tacos Por Favor to get my taco shop fix. Since leaving San Diego it has been hard to find something comparable to my coveted Santana's AKA Fresh MXN or Lucha Libre, especially on the West Side.
This did not satisfy my craving at all. I guess if you like Tex-Mex this is for you. They like to cram a bunch of stuff into a tortilla and charge you $7. It is filling but not very delicious. It is disappointing to get a mahi mahi burrito consisting mostly of beans and rice. Unfortunatly it's back to Poquito Mas until I find something else to satisfy my taco shop craving. -
Review from Marco A.
Rosemead, CA
A coworker from Texas and I used to order from this place 2-3 times a week and for good reason.
Not much to say about TPF except their chorizo tacos (hard or soft) are probably the best taco you're going to find in Santa Monica. The chorizo is cooked in chunks and the cheese melts oh so well. The taco may have more oil than the hair of a 90's grunge band but we didn't come here for the health factor, did we?
I'm a HUGE fan of the red chili they serve but that is best reserved for breakfast burritos and tortilla chips (which are both awesome). So spicy, addictive, and better than King Taco's red chili hands down.
What held this place back from getting 5-stars? Being from East Los, it's hard to justify paying almost $3 for a taco. Prices are higher than what you find at most Mexican spots, but if you're west of the 405 and hankering for some delicious tacos and burritos then TPF is the place to go! -
Review from Vivian J.
If I hadn't gone to Benny's Tacos the day before, I might have given this place one star higher because it's been a while since I've had great Mexican food. However, here are the basics:
The Good:
- Cheap Mexican eats made to order
- Decent salsa bar with peppers and plenty of limes (the spicy salsa wasn't very spicy at all though)
- A variety of slushy drinks (watermelon and horchata)
- Decent selection of beers
The OK:
- Tacos were generally OK, but they didn't actually stand out. For the price, though, I thought it was reasonable.
The Bad:
- I'm a huge fan of tacos al pastor, but the ones at Benny's were so disappointing! I've had tacos al pastor in Mexico that still haunt my dreams that had juicy, marinated meat sliced off the revolving spit, but the ones at TPF were made out of extremely low grade meat, as if the meat was throwaway portions. I really wanted my friends from out of town to try the pork tacos at their best, and they enjoyed them because they were different, but I wish they had better quality.
- Service is COLD. The lady working the orders at the front was so unfriendly that my boyfriend and I felt discouraged to ask questions or make our preferences heard.
Unfortunately, despite the close proximity of TPF, this will not be my first stop for Mexican food. -

I am unabashedly addicted to this place.
This place is my go-to spot for cheap, delicious Mexican food on the Westside. I love the hard chicken tacos (boyfriend prefers the carne asada) and the watermelon juice is soo fresh (They also offer horchata and beer! Hellooo, Negra Modelo). The ingredients are fresh and the salsa bar is more than satisfactory.
The place is a bit on the divey side and street parking can sometimes be hard to find, but who cares? It's so worth it. -

Duuuude! Went here for only my second time and OMG this place F'Ing Kicks Butt! Got there at exactly at noon, short line, I was ready to rock.
-Got 1 Soft Carnitas Taco and a Carne Asada Burrito. The Carnitas Taco was so authentic and so tasteful. It was everything that I was looking for in a Carnitas Taco. The meat was very flavorful, very moist and just straight up Good Carnitas baby!
- I am going to go out on a limb here and make a big statement. The Carne Asada burrito may have been the best Carne Asada Burrito I have ever had. The Tortilla itself was a perfect texture. Soft, moist, perfectly warmed with a wonderful tortilla flavor. Wrapped tight to hold all that goodness inside. Didn't even come close to falling apart, and to me, this is huge in burritos. So many bad ones out there, next thing I know I am breaking out knife and fork and I hate this when having a burrito. The Carne, well, the Carne was some of the most flavorful I have had. It was succulent, Great flavors, perfect moisture, not dry at all. You could really capture all of the Carne Flavors on this puppy. I have had soooo many carne asada burritos and so many disappoint me. The meat is usually dry and sometimes just unappealing looking. Sometimes there are fatty pieces you know, just not good Carne Asada. Not at Tacos Por Favor. There shit is bomb!! Throw on some of their FRESH Pico De Gallo with their hot sauce and damn you are in Mexicano Heaven! The rice and beans in the burrito are so good they don't overwhelm each other at all. Both were outstanding and the cilantro, well just another great add on. Next time I am for sure going to add avocado and then this thing, well I can't even imagine what it will be like.
-Both of my experiences and TPF have been like this. I have one bite and I actually almost get depressed because it's so good and I know the experience is going to end! haha I know, sounds crazy but when I find good Mexican, I can't get enough!! Every bite was a delight here. No need to hunt down the "The Best Taco Truck" in the area. I am just coming here from here on out. Oh and $9 for a taco and a burrito. Well, that is just flat out amazing. I am thoroughly looking forward to coming back every time I am in SM. I am glad I don't live here or else I would most likely be at this place twice a day and burn myself out! Enjoy amigos!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Santa Monica, CA
If there was a way to give 6 stars, this place might deserve it. It is simply the BEST Mexican food in America.
It's in an unassumming strip plaza on Olympic Blvd in Santa Monica, kind of near the Buffalo Club. But somehow they transport you to little Guadalajara in seconds. Maybe it's the metal screen doors and bland interior, but it's perfect.
I think they do simple stuff the best. Tacos, burritos, chips, etc. The meats are all terrific - pork, beef, fish, shrimp, tongue. It's all good. The hibiscus water is fantastic. But the absolute best part is the salsa bar. Try them all and bring a plastic bag full of pickled carrots and jalapenos home for later.
At about $5 - $10/person, this place rocks. -

An unassuming outside that I've run by many times... I've actually seen it a lot, but never knew that this was the location for Tacos Por Favor....
Walking in, it feels a little bit like walking into a friend's garage for a barbecue.... The first part of the restaurant actually feels more like a restaurant. The attached dining area looks added on... kinda like a tent that people might add onto to accommodate big Mexican family fiestas.... You can see all their items stored off to the side, so don't come here for the ambiance... just good food.
This is probably more along the lines of authentic vs Chipotle or Baja Fresh etc... Portions are on the smaller side, but there are a ton of things to choose from. I opted for a California burrito, which for over $8 I was hoping for it to be a bit bigger, but it was good. Free chips, with a great salsa bar help to fill up a heavy appetite like mine, but next time I may have to pick up a few of these hard tacos that people are raving about too.... -

My favorite place for Mexican food in Santa Monica! Everything is fresh and remarkably healthy for such authentic Mexican food. I recommend the Huaraches, the Tacos, the Tamales, the Huevos Rancheros, Burritos (especially the seafood burritos). I don't care for their Tortas and the plastic forks are pretty difficult to use. Atmosphere is just like a typical restaurant in Mexico.

We just popped in for a quick lunch and for whatever reason, I couldn't decide what to order (which rarely happens to me). So I just got a burrito, figuring, how can you go wrong with a burrito? And it was FHA-NOM!
The salsa was kick-ass, too. So super hot it made my makeup melt. (I don't cake it on, spankyouverymuch, but these days we gotta mix sunscreen and skin-tone corrector with foundation . . . you get the idea.)
The best part: They serve Negra--the ultimate compliment to great south-of-the-border eats. -

Any of the wet burritos are awesome. Pile up on the pico de gallo
