My husband and I LOVE this restaurant.  We started eating here back when it was still in the dingy, flourescent-lit, cafeteria style building next door to its re-vamped location.

The re-vamping is fine...cute new atmosphere...but the food is what keeps us coming back.  Order the potato flautas...you will not be disappointed.  The fajitas are excellent, too, and the enchiladas (any filling) with red sauce are tasty and just the right amount of spicy.

I must note that we rarely actually eat AT the restaurant...we always order it to pick up or for delivery (which is really fast!).  We have only eaten at the new restaurant once (though we have ordered delivery about 1,000 times since then).  That experience was not the greatest because the blender for the margaritas was running practically right next to my husband's head.  Not the most pleasant dining experience.  Just sit far from the bar and I'm sure it would be fine.

And if you're still dissuaded, just order their take out.  Yum.

I'm from L.A.
When I'm missing Mexican not "Mexican't" I order from here.
The tacos al pastor are close to what I crave off the truck parked in my home town of San Pedro. The tacos come with radish and lime like they are supposed to and they are topped with the traditional onions and cilantro not pineapple (are you kidding me?)
The traditional mole is good as well as the pumpkin mole.
Go there.

I have been going to this place for 9 years - you would think that I would be able to give it a better rating after having been there so much. Don't get me wrong, the food is really good -- but since they moved their taco operation into the bar next door, my opinion of the restaurant has gone south. While the decor is lovely, especially the chandeliers made of animal antlers, I have been burned twice recently by the atmosphere and service.

A few nights ago I went in looking for some quick tacos and was greeted by live music set up in front of the entrance. It was so loud in there we couldn't even have a conversation -- and no, I am not some old fart, I still go to loud shows and whatever, but it would be nice to talk without shouting while I eat my tacos. So I left. I really would have liked the music -- a harp and a singing guitar player -- if it hadn't been so deafeningly loud.

I went back tonight thinking that since it's a weeknight they would not have the live music. I ordered two tacos and a tamale. After 45 minutes of waiting for my food (and watching an Eddie Murphy movie on the TV); being asked once if I wanted anything else before the food even got there; and several promises of "it's coming" I got up and left. They weren't even that busy! It's not like I ordered anything so complicated. It was a couple of freakin tacos. My whole night went to crap from there.

I am not a fool. There won't be a third time for the Neuvo Tacos Neuvo Mexico. Which is a shame because I really, really do love their cheese tacos. I hope others have better luck there than me.

Between 11th St. and 7th Avenue?  Really, Yelp?  What parallel universe do you live in where something can be in between streets that run perpendicular?  BUT, creative geography aside, the address is still wrong because they have moved one door down (to 489, i suppose, though I didn't see a number on the door).

You will not believe your eyes.

Gone is the neon, cafeteria-style dining and the doleful, omni-present Virgin Mary paintings.  Gone is the buzz of the beer cooler and the stickiness of the plastic table coverings.   Tacos Nuevo Mexico now inhabits a beautiful space with arched windows, high wood-beamed ceilings, chandeliers made of wagon wheels and antlers, and bathrooms paved with pebbles.  The lighting is soft and warm.  A 2-piece band (harp and guitar) serenades you as you enter.

Beautiful!  A sign on the old location promises "same menu, same prices."  I wish they would put some of their decorating effort into improving the food slightly, but it's still really cheap, and not bad.  They still have 2-for-1 margaritas and beer until 6:30.  The free chips & salsa are good.  No major complaints, food-wise.

(except for the hard candy they give you with the check.  my dining companion made a big show of gagging and pretending to vom.  but  he's kind of a drama queen, so maybe it wasn't that bad.  I didn't eat mine).

Our dinner started of promisingly with complimentary salsa and chips. The salsa was pretty good and had a great bite to it. We were a hungry party of 9 and were given 2 baskets of chips. A friend asked for a third basket once we were done and the waitresses explained that they charge $1.25 for extra chips. Fine.

We ordered our dinner and asked for one appetizer of guacamole for the table. What arrived should not be described as guacamole even by the lowest standards. It was avocado powder watered down and mixed with a few cilantro leafs. The guac quality and taste was appalling, and if you can't judge a Mexican place by their guac...

I had a vegetarian taco which was substandard [I couldn't even tell what was in it. And I think it was sprinkled with imitation cheese.] and needed a ton of hot sauce to spruce up the bland taste, and a shrimp tostada which was actually perfectly seasoned with lime and cilantro and all around delicious. The margaritas were also pretty good...

...But I was there to enjoy dinner, not drinks. With all the amazing Mexican places in Brooklyn, I would never set foot here again.

I came here on Cinco de Mayo - to what I think was a new sit-down restaurant portion attached to the "tacos to go" part of the original establishment.

Never have I experienced such terrible service. The restaurant itself is very small, and the staff would just randomly open the door to cool off I suppose, although judging from the fact that nearly ALL of the clients put on their jackets, I think it's safe to say that it wasn't very warm in there. Strike 1, being freezing while eating. People did ask them to shut the door and someone would, but someone else would come by a few minutes later and open it again.

My other complaint is having to wait for an undue amount of time before doing anything. We were seated right away, but no one took our order, brought water or chips for 20 minutes, after we asked. Once we ordered drinks and our meal, another 30 minutes went by. Then, when I asked how much longer our food would be, I must have reminded our waitress that we were there, b/c our food immediately came out. Clearly it was ready, she just was busy putting silverware on other tables. Our chip basket was refilled once, again, only after asking. We ordered 3 simple margaritas that we waited 15 minutes for. Mind you, the place was busy, but certainly not packed. I watched other tables come in, order, and get served, all before we received our food.

The food itself was mediocre at best. The guacamole clearly came from a jar, which is just disappointing. I ordered the Pollo Mexicano which was fine, certainly nothing special though.

I would never recommend this place (at least as a dining experience). We should have gone to Rachel's as was the original plan, but wanted to give this new place a try. Bad idea!

Not fine dining. Those complaining about "terrible service" failed to see the original portion of the restaurant which is decorated in glowing neon green lights and the virgin mary.

I love it. I love the tacky, shitty ambiance of the original Tacos and the New "Improved" Mexi-saloon joint, complete with animal skulls and tvs embedded in the faux wood panelling.

The food is deec -- I tend to fall back on the various enchiladas -- and the drinks are potent. If you're just looking for some lowbrow chow, pop in. The 15 year old servers are delightfully charming.

The remodeled restaurant helps a lot. Nice interior.

Best tamales I've had in park slope. Almost San Francisco-level, but small servings. Green chile tamale was the one I had.

Tacos are good too. Also a bit small, but both are 2 bucks.

I just finished my take-out order of a veg burrito, and as I write this I am munching on fresh tortilla chips.  The salsa smelled and tasted like pickles, so that went straight to the trash, but here's the scoop:

1.  The veg burrito was mostly rice and lettuce.  If there WERE beans in there, they were refried.  I can't really be sure because I barely tasted them or even sensed their texture.  In fact, upon VERY CLOSE examination, I only *think* I saw them....there was so little, I just can't be sure they were real.
2.  The bean-free burrito was not what you'd call "hot."  Then again, without a protein in there, I'm not sure I was expecting super-hot, but I thought the beans would be WARM at least...not so much.
3.  STILL the burrito was tasty. It wasn't amazing, it wasn't even great. But it was good, so that's something.
4.  As i mentioned, salsa smelled like pickles and tasted like...pickles. Maybe pickles soaked in jalapeno brine, but pickles nonetheless.

My chips are nice and fresh. Delivery was speedy.  Lady who took my order was nice.  And for $10, I don't regret my dinner, but for a burrito in the Slope?  I'll stick with Uncle Moe's...

I'll only add that I was really impressed with the variety of proteins available...seemed authentic. Unfortch, they didn't include any slow-cooked vegetarian chorizo or even crumbled veg sausage. It'd be a nice addition.

Finding Authentic Mexican in NYC can be challenge. Tacos Nuevo is very good and authentic. The Tosada's are great, the Taco's are great Salted Beef, Fried Pork, and Tongue. The Carnitas Platter is great as well. It used to be a dive restaurant that looked more like a cafeteria than a restaurant now after a face lift it is much more inviting to casual diner! They also deliver till 2am! Go beat that!

I live above this place (well close enough).. I've ordered out a few times and it's okay. I went to school in Arizona so I'm pretty picky when it comes to my Mexican, but this is probably some of the better that I've had in NYC.

That being said, they have a Mariachi band playing outside right now and it's making me thirsty for a margarita.. so that's all you get for now.

The name is actually "Nuevo," not "Nuevos."  Which means there's more than 1 restaurant of this name in Brooklyn, but then that's not surprising, is it?

I don't understand the pans, below.  To me, this place is exactly what it should be: good cheap Mexican.  I'd give it 3.75 if I could.  In any case, I haven't ordered extensively from the menu, but what I've had has been very good.  Yesterday had take-out w/ a chorizo soft taco and 2 tamales, one cheese, 1 chicken.  The chorizo was fresh and piquant, very toothsome.  The tamales were a bit skimpy on filling, but I love the taste of corn meal, so really they were fine.  Perhaps if I had a wider acquaintance w/ the menu I'd be disappointed like some of the other reviewers, but that hasn't happened yet.  When I'm in the mood for this kind of thing, this is one of my go-to places.

I also haven't had a problem w/ the service.  This isn't the Ritz, but it's always been acceptable.  And I notice there are always people there who are clearly Latin American - means something, right?

Decent -enough, pretty-authentic tacos ($2.75 a taco): lime, salsa, guacamole, cilantro, onions, small corn tortillas, etc. Complimentary salsa (with a bite to it) and chips. Margaritas with bang for your buck.

But what the hell are those stringy things in the quacamole (which is really just mashed avocado with some cilantro and kinda bland)? Really... What the hell is that dang deal?

The more I travel out to Sunset Park for tacos, the less I enjoy the tacos here. However, I do still frequent the restaurant because the Salted Beef Tortas are fantastic.

Beware of the Barbacoa that they sometimes have on the menu. The meat is tender but largely flavorless and full of little bits of bone.

Upon further visits to the Nuevos, I would like to add that the carnitas dinner is the shizzle, the lemonade is frothy and huge (the large is big enough for 2 people to share), and yes, Virginia, the service royally majorly sucks.  We went there after coming home from a Sunday afternoon Yankees game, and I was hot, dehydrated, and slightly drunk.  I was on the verge of passing out by the time the waitress brought our water....yargh.

But I heart carnitas, so like the booty call on your block you go back to every time you're single, so I return to TNM.

Ouch, Tacos Nuevos! You used to be so good . . . .

I should start by saying I spent the last 3 months since discovering Tacos Nuevos obsessively eating it 2-3 times a week. I haven't made it in for a good sit-down in a little over a month (just been doing delivery), so I figured yesterday was a good time to drop in and grab dinner. Now I don't know if I ever care to eat there again.

The 3 young girls running the show didn't even notice when we walked in, which is strange considering it was so silent in there you could have literally heard a pin drop (hello ladies, what's the jukebox for? play something!). After a minute or 2 of being ignored we just picked a table and sat down. One of the girls heard us pulling the chairs out and came over and handed us menus.

We almost immediately noticed the disgusting state of the restaurant. The unoccupied table next to us had used napkins littering the floor under it and the entire floor in general looked like it hadn't been swept or mopped in a while. Before diving in to the watered-down pico, I went to wash my hands in the bathroom and discovered that there were no paper towels. Ok, it's cool. I'm all about second chances. And third chances . . .

We ordered a pitcher of margaritas, which may or may not have been made by our 15-year old server. I question whether there was any tequila in it at all, as it tasted of watered-down kool-aid and we were able to gulp the whole thing down in 15 minutes (wouldn't normally even want to do this with a real margarita) without so much as a slight buzz.

The food was ok - probably the worst I've ever had there, but still pretty good. At this point I was willing to overlook the fact that the restaurant was filthy and dead silent, the margaritas probably didn't have tequila in them, the server acted as though she could care less about anything and really just wanted to go into the back and chillax some more with her friends, and then she came to refill our waters.

I didn't know it was technically possibly to fuck up serving WATER, but this place somehow did it. One drink and I immediately knew something was wrong - the water reeked and tasted of chemicals. It smelled like a cross between pine-sol and a dirty rag that had been used to wipe down a table or something, so I have to assume that instead of water she actually served us some sort of sterilizer or cleanser. I don't want to know how or why it was in the pitcher or if the pitcher had been used to ring out a rag or if it was an entire pitcher of some sterilizing agent - I just paid got the fuck out of there before anything else could happen.

I just kept thinking - if it's this dirty and unorganized in the front of the restaurant where everyone can see, then how bad is it in the kitchen? I was a HUGE Tacos Nuevos fan before, but Its going to take a serious restaurant renovation to ever get me back now.

Well, lemme come clean: you know why this place gets four stars? Because it serves me cheese flautas without complaint when I order them -- without asking "oh do you mean chicken flautas?" and without giving me a weird look.

They'll also deliver, which is uber-helpful if, say, your party is at a nearby bar and hungry. Um, hypothetically, of course.

Add one star for the chips and salsa, but subtract a half-star for the quantity of the salsa and the unwillingness of the servers to bring you additional salsa when you finish it - which you will after about five chips. I don't think this is a language barrier deal, either, because when I asked in Spanish, our waitress said okay, then never came back.

Add one star for the selection of Mexican sodas, but subtract a half-star for several minutes it takes them to provide water and the aforementioned chips and salsa once you sit down. I think I've been spoiled by Mexican places that get this stuff on the table as soon as your menus arrive. TNM is very inconsistent with this.

Add one star for the actual quality and freshness of the food - it's very good - but subtract a half-star for the time it takes to reach the table. Add two stars for takeout.

This is a negative review only because of the service. The food in TNM is excellent. If you're looking to actually go out and eat, however, with all the bells and whistles that conventional restaurant service can provide, it's definitely lacking in the basics.

Good Mexican is definitely hard to come by, good and cheap is even harder so I was super pleased with Tacos Nuevo Mexico.  I've never been to the old location next door but the new location is pretty nice (however, the music that begins at 8pm I could absolutely do without, seriously, not necessary).  The meal didn't start off well as the chips were stale, but the huge $26 pitcher of margaritas turned things around for me.  My roommate and I shared the chicken flautas which were tasty though not good enough that I'd order them again.  The 3 tacos I got however were all great.  I will list them in order of preference: roasted pork (great flavor, really yummy), shrimp and chicken (a bit on the dry side but still tasty).  They were all stuffed full of filling, next time though I think I will request just one corn tortilla per taco (I get why they use 2 but I didn't think it was necessary).  Total bill for me (including appetizer, half a pitcher of margaritas, 3 tacos, tax and tip): $28 - excellent deal.

Some of the best tongue southeast of the Borscht Belt.  Tender, juicy and a nice game flavor I never regret ordering it with green sauce on the side.  I'm also a big fan of their pulpo (that's octopus to you and me) soup.  A deep red spicy soup with fresh cilantro and chunks of briny tentacles to coat and cure any sore throat.

Rice and beans are standard.  I don't believe they're made in house just because of their taste and texture.  Tacos is a paradox in ways because the main jist of their dishes, such meats, seafood, catcus, etc. seem to be fresh but the accompaniments are not.  Service can be a hassle only if you don't speak Spanish and you want to modify your order such as asking for extra meat or a side of sour cream.  The obligatory corn chips and salsa/picante is very good and addictive.  All in all, even with a not so striking interior this is one of my favorite places for Mexican style tongue and other dishes.

Hit-or-miss, TNM has a special place in Park Slope in its current state of south-side gentrification. Just look: two blocks up and there's a new condo building being erected, across the street is an impending 7-Eleven opening, and a few blocks down, all the 99-cent stores are closing down, unable to renew their leases or can't compete with the rest of the shopping on Fifth.

So what of all that? Everyone still goes here, from California transplants to Slope lifers, everyone still enjoying margaritas (good ones!) and tacos (some not so good ones!).

I find that if I get something to go, the food never travels all that well, but I'm marking them off one for that because tacos are STREET FOOD and if I can't eat mine ON THE STREET then what's the purpose??

Crazy party room upstairs; seriously, stay downstairs, have a margarita and some tacos, and hope that this place sticks around.

Ordered in on Cinco de Mayo --granted, not the best idea -- but they assured me my order would arrive within 45 minutes. An hour and a half later, it still hadn't arrived and when I called to check up on it they told me they had no record of the order. WTF. I asked if they had charged my credit card, since I had given it over the phone, and they said no.

Another hour later, the delivery guy magically arrives on my doorstep carrying my order. When I took the food upstairs, two items were missing, even though I had been charged for them (guess I'll never know if the guacamole is good.)

Overall, the food was sloppy, salty and tasting of raw corn meal.

Fast forward two days, and I find out the restaurant ran my credit card twice --proof of how terribly run this place is, since my order went from being lost, to never charged, to run, to delivered, to now paid for twice.

I called them to correct the issue and no one seems to know what to do.

NEVER. AGAIN.

Holy s. This place was a disgrace to Mexican food. I would rather go to Chipotle (read review)!

I remember stumbling upon this place on my never ending search for a decent horchata in town and was so happy to have found it at Tacos Nuevos. Maybe I was horchata-stricken and lowered my standards for their food. I do remember their carne asada tacos being nice and juicy and slightly decent.

WRONG!!! Yesterday was a horrible mistake by coming to this place. They were out of horchata and the tacos, rice, and beans were plain out nasty!!! This place is dirty and lacks a a reason to even come here. I am insulted this place is classified as authentic Mexican food. It might as well be gruel served on a platter since it was appalling.

The refried beans were from a can and the cheese on my tacos consisted of a gross parmesan crumble. The rice was bland and the server did not comprehend a thing.

I would not recommend this place even if I was starving to death and needed a bite to eat to keep me alive. Its cheapness prevails in the lack of quality and in the horrible food prepared here. BARF!

This was by far the most disgusting Mexican food I've ever eaten in my entire life...and the service definitely paralleled this lackluster experience. Quite frankly, I'm surprised this place maintains any business at all, considering its location in Park Slope.

I tried, with much regret, the chicken faijtas, accompanied with yellow rice and refried beans. Though the chicken looked appealing, the taste was dreadfully ordinary, with only a hint of cilantro that didn't taste fresh whatsoever. The tortillas were super small, dry, and brittle like old paint peeling off a wall. The refriend beans had the unappetizing texture of vomit and the rice was way too starchy.

Tacos Nuevos definitely epitomizes the phrase "dive joint" in every aspect, and the awful stench that lingered throughout was what one might expect from a bad case of flatulence stemming from binge-eating spicey food.

And, please, when someone orders a coffee you don't automatically add sugar and milk to it. I've never experienced such an act in all my life when ordering coffee. Adding sugar and milk is something the customer does to his or her liking. Needless to say, and with or without milk and sugar, the coffee tasted like it had been sitting around for hours on a hot plate. Absolutely disgusting.

This is the kind of Mexican food establishment I would expect from a neighborhood like Bushwick, but not in Park Slope. Cheap or not, the food here, contrary to many other reviews, was revolting to the max.

Thumbs way the hell down!

Great drunk food, crappy margaritas.  This place is fun and the service is fast as hell.  Like, scary fast.  The salsa and chips are amazing, but again--we were totally snookered so who knows.

Goddamn those margaritas were gross.  Like liquid candy with fake tequila flavor or something.  You could probably declog a drain with those things.  Ugh.

Still, four stars because they serve food really late and the food that they serve is surprisingly good (and cheap).  I'm sure I'll find myself there again someday.

Easily best mexican food I've had in New York. Moved from San Francisco, and have been craving a place that rivals El Metate for consistently tasty food.  I love their veggie tacos and shrimp tacos, and am excited to try the huitlacoche mushrooms (which sadly they've been out of the last 2 times I went there).

2.75 stars.

Got takeout for lunch.  I ordered the botana (an appetizer platter that came with a chicken flauta, a cheese flauta, nachos, fries, and salsa).

The flautas were warm and crispy (I think the cheese in cheese flauta was just "queso blanco??"), the nachos were tasty, with freshly melted cheese, the fries were just ok.  The menu lists the botana as being for 2 people, but I really only got enough food for 1 person  =(

I agree... I used to get take out - enough to want it again.  I would dine-in time to time and was always please. But, recently took a friend there... boasting about how good it was.  It turned out to be terrible.   I don't what happened here....

I begrudgingly write this post in deference to my boyfriend, who has somehow managed to drag me out to this place more times than I can count. Despite my neverending protest - I just don't like Mexican food that much - it has yet to let me down. Whether I'm devoid of appetite and just get a novel-sounding flauta, or we're pigging out and share the appetizer platter, or it's breakfast and I get the three eggs with green salsa, this place - wait, even the margaritas are fantastic - has delivered. Their hours seem to consistently late-night friendly, and the staff is really nice. Only pitfall seems to be the TV set and whatever bawdy game show or strange historically set telenovella are turned on. But overall, I can say I will continue to not hate the place.

Great Mexican food.  $2 or $2.50 tacos, depending on the meat.  Sincerely friendly service.  Clean place.  Fresh chips and homemade salsa were free.  Great Jarritos and beer selection (full fridge in the back).  Great variety.

I don't need to travel to Sunset Park anymore to get a great taco.  Now, all I have to do is get off the F at 4th and 9th and walk 3 blocks.

I'm bringing my whole family next time.

I was kind of afraid to give this place five stars because it will just get even more overrun with gringos like myself and they'll raise prices again.  But, I can't blame them because their rent is probably going up.

So this is the deal.  I go to TNM about once a week or order delivery, and while the service isn't great, the atmosphere and food are 100% authentic mexican.  If you're looking for a fancy restaurant, try Piramide down the street - looks way too hoity toity for me.  Here I get good food and can put some Mana on the jukebox or take in over the top mexican tv.

The chicken soft tacos are extraordinary.  Most everything else is passable.  Mushy refried beans, hours-old rice, lukewarm tortillas.  The service is brusque and ordering is tense.  The place is usually dead quiet and cafeteria-like.  It encourages poor manners and bad posture.  However, those chicken soft tacos are the diamond in the rough and worth a visit (only if you are within 10 blocks).

Passable yet edible, I'll pass on the tacos. My only gripes were that my asada tacos failed in allowing us to put our own salsa and they were rolled like a burrito...I've got try more on the menu but I think Sunset Park here and hometown Chicago will be my go to for now.

Better than any of the other Mexican places in Park Slope, but that's hardly a compliment.  The non-taco options (burritos, fajitas, taquitos, etc.) definitely trump the tacos, which are kind of mediocre.  Do yourself a favor and take an extra few minutes: Go to Sunset Park.

Definitely gotta get the Lengua Burrito for $6. The meat is tender, juicy and tasty. NO need to douse this burrito in salsa or guacamole. It can stand alone. The tacos are pretty good as well --- soft corn tortillas only. This is probably the closest thing to decent Mexican food in all of NY!!!
