OK so I originally gave them 3 stars but said I'd go back and give it another shot.  On the recommendation of another Yelper I tried the Tounge & Cheek (lengua & cabeza).  Again it was huge. I had 1/2 today and will eat the other 1/2 tomorrow.

It was awesome!  Probably one of the top 5 burritos I've ever had!  It had tons of meat and I got the pickled carrots/onions/jalapenos/salsa on the side.  The others that went with me had Sopas and Tacos and they really liked them as well.

By the way the truck doesn't say Tacos La Perla.  It has a picture of a babe on the side named esmarelda!

Popped my roach coach cherry!

HUGE burritos to add to my expanding waistline. A vegetarian burrito around $5 that is seriously like a foot long. And what girl can resist a foot long?

Plus you can help yourself to the salsa and pickled carrots!

Oh, shit.  I was so confused!  I thought that this was the high-end lingerie boutique!  Fuck.  I wanted to buy some expensive pieces of sweet nothings with the hopes that someone special would rip them off of me someday soon.  You know.....if you build it, they will come.  Same idea.

Instead of finding lingerie for my pink taco, I found for-reals tacos!  Authentic and tasty.   I guess I will have to go to La Perla in Vegas to find silk and lace outfits for my naughty bits.

But come here for the carnitas. Delicioso!

This is the place to go when I need to feel like a man again.

My friend Josh told me about their super burrito, and I didn't quite believe him.  Well, he was right - these things are huge.  HUGE.  $5.75 will buy you a burrito the size of your forearm.  It probably weighs two pounds.

Lots of meat choices, too.  I love lengua.  On my third visit I tried lengua and cabeza.  I called it the tongue-in-cheek burrito.  It's some good eats!!  Meat's tender, lots of rice and beans and the salsa and limes give it an extra kick.

When I eat lunch here, I don't need dinner that night.  How awesome is that?

Just the tacos please...

Taco Meat:  Flavorful with just the right amount of moisture, not greasy.
Tortilla:  It was a bit crispy on the outside, like cooked on butter.  Great!
Fixings:  Onion, but they had the jalapeño if you asked and lime.
Sauces:  A great little tomatillo sauce.
Price:  $1.25 each.

Viva the Tacos de Esmeralda "Irvington" truck.

I'd be back if I was in the area.

I discovered this truck when I was at the post office, which is around the corner.  There was a crowd around the truck and I decided to see if I could get a snack from the truck.

I ordered to go a vegetarian burrito.  It was the biggest burrito I have ever seen! The taste was great and it was filling - actually, filling enough for two+ meals.  It was enough to last me the whole day.  Price was very reasonable.

Service from the Amigo was friendly - even with my "Sparse" Spanish.

Overall, I would definitely go again when in the area but this time I will get something smaller, like a taco.

I must have been sleepin' on taco truck food until this week! This makes taco truck #2 for me inside of 3 days. (The other was Dia de Pesca in San Jose). On the recommendation of 21 other yelp reviews, I decided to try it since I was craving Mexican food.

I had the two taco combo plate with rice & beans, one al pastor, one carne asada. So yummy! I'm more of a flour tortilla girl, and I love that the corn tortillas weren't too corn-y, just right! Light crunchiness to them too. The carne asada was good, but next time I'm having all al pastor. Super deelish. The beans were good. Rice not too bad, but a little crunchy so maybe it wasn't the freshest. Still overall a really good first time.

I'll be back La Perla!

Let's start off with......I am not a "Taco Truck" guy, sure I love good food and I will drive to get it, but I will not go out of my way for a taco truck. I just happened to be across the street at "Rogers Campers" getting some new hoses for my camping trailer since I am taking the kids camping this summer. I remembered the Yelp recommendations about La Perla and strolled across the street.

DAMMIT.....they were good tacos, I didn't want to like them but I did. I had the Carne Asada Tacos and they were seasoned well, hot right off the grill and tasted great. I even tried some of the "Hot Sauce" in a bottle and it made them taste better.

I looked around after eating them right in the parking lot and ordered 2 more to go. I will go back, but don't tell anybody.

After going on a massive search for a massive burrito, I read up about this truck. If this place were any closer to my house, I'd come here more often. Supposedly taco trucks are just as great as a hole-in-the-wall location when it comes to good Mexican food, and this truck is serious.

Like many, carne asada anything is the way to go, so of course I opted for the carne asada burrito. After a short wait, I was handed my burrito, which was practically the length of my forearm. Now, other reviews for other locations will say that the burritos are massive. Besides La Pinata, this truly is a giant.

i took it home with me and took some hot sauce on the side. Yeah it was practically composed of 2 tortillas, but when its under $6 bucks and has the basic ingredients, there's no need to complain. Although it was just rice, carne asada, beans, and some sour cream, the fact that it took forever to finish made it worthwhile. Actually took me 2 meals to finish.

I will have to dock one star off since the sauce was kinda bland. I recommend eating it right away since it took me half an hour to go home and finally eat it. Of course, it wasn't as hot as when it came off the truck. Coming from Union City on the Hayward side, it makes you realize how far the end of Fremont is. Ugh. I'll try something else next time I go.

Ok seriously this place is no joke.
I am in love love love with their tacos and quesadillas. I don't know if he is still there, but raymond who used to work the truck a year or so ago was the nicest EVER and was nice enough to let me include him in one of my photo essays my freshman year @ AAU. I learned some spanish and got to eat delicious hot mexican food. What else could a girl need?

The prices are just right for the portions you get and I have never left feeling unhappy. Keep up the good food!!!

I am totally addicted to this place ever since a friend took me here. I'm glad its not really close to my house. The chicharones tacos are still sizzling when they hand the plate to you. The carne asada tastes really good too. Tacos are their specialty and its what everybody usually orders.

Most yelpers, who has been monitoring my reviews, know  I'm a burrito-man. Sadly but true, I have consumed approximately between three to four thousand burritos in my entire life (you can tell by my aging helium-balloon-like body). Strangely enough, that my first ever burrito/meal comes from a truck parked behind a plaza in the city of Fremont.

Finding the winnebago-like taco truck was no-easy task, becasue the truck is parked more towards the residential area. There is also a car wash in the same lot and parking is not a problem.

Because of the hassle finding the truck, my lunch was well past 2pm. With so many potential tasty restaurants in the city, I could've ate elsewhere. But this truck was given a 4.5 rating by yelp and I'm desparate to check this place out. And I'm also a burrito-lover!

Looking at the menu posted on the truck, they serve seven kinds of meats with affordable prices. I ordered the Carnitas (shredded Grilled Pork) as my meat and filling for my super burrito. Affordable prices, yes for $5.25, including a $1.00 can of Diet Pepsi totaled to $6.50. I paid my meal in cash.

My burrito came very quickly. For a Chinese man, I have "gorilla-grip" paws and hold most super burritos with one hand and use the other hand for other things .i.e.drinks, cell-phone, driving... But the tasty burrito from here uses  "the freshest meats, gooey cheese and other condiments with "two" flour tortilla, which requires both of my hands (most taquerias uses one flour tortilla). I felt like I'm handling a wild silver rattlesnake with that super "long" burrito. Needless to say, a tasty burrito I enjoyed, despite not knowing the city of Fremont all that well.

There are a few benches in the lot, but they're all occupied with patrons enjoying the food from the taco-truck. Therefore, I needed to enjoy my meal in my work car. And as a expert in eating a burrito in cars, not a single filling has dropped in my car. Not a thing I would recommend doing, but going to the nearby car wash luckily wasn't necessary.

I read all the reviews over here on Yelp. I was impressed with the score it received.
I went over to this Taco Truck last Saturday, there was a line and many people around it. I ordered a Carne Asada Super Burrito for $5.75. I waited for about 5min until I got my food. While I was waiting, I went over to the small stand where they had their signature salsa? and other vegetables. I noticed the people around me getting about 6-7 cups of salsa, I got 6.
I went to home to enjoy my big burrito, my mom saw it and was like WTH! it is crazy big.
For the price, it is well worth the money.
I had my salsa ready, I took my first bite. BAM! The full flavor of the cheese, re-fried beans, and rice blew me away. The problem is, I did not get any meat. I add some salsa to the burrito, made the taste much better. The salsa is very hot. Just how I like it.
It took me about 30min to finish this burrito. I was very full.

Food 8/10
Location 7/10
Price 9/10
Overall 8.5/10

after reading the yelp reviews for this place I decided to give La Perla a try. I was really looking forward to the super giant burrito after looking at the yelp pic. I got my mind set on it and I know exactly what to order when i go there. The place is pretty easy to find.
The picture on yelp did not lied... the burrito is huge. Longest burrito I ever have in my whole entire life... and only for less than 6 bucks! Of course... like always when I eat mexican food I picked my usual carne asada as my choice of meat. This is what disappointed me and hence the 3 stars rating. Honestly speaking... the price is great, the portion is great. But what is inside is what makes it really disappointing!
I took the burrito to go... since I can't wait to get home to eat it, I began to bite into the burrito while my friend was driving me home.
Here is my reaction... literally~
first bite.. I thinking in my mind... no meat!!!... just rice and beans...
hmmm... alright... I was thinking again.. it's probably like that... all the burrito at the beginning is always fill w/ rice and beans.
so couple more bite.... hmm.. still rice and bean... beside that the taste was blend as well, so I begin to poured some of the sauce over it to give it some taste (which make it taste better)
so offer my friend, the driver a bite... same reaction from my friend... where is the meat?
ok... so it's not until you do some serious damage into the burrito that is  when you first begin to get hint of meat. So the rest of the burrito is pretty much the same... I realize they put most rice and bean into the burrito and barely any meat.
Maybe that is why they were able to to keep the price low by putting less meat.
What is disappoint is that.. not only there isn't a lot of meat. But the carne asada failed to have the tasteful marinated mexican beef taste that I love.
And the burrito itself will taste very blend without the sauce.
maybe their taco would be a better choice! sigh~

"Taco TrucK" as we simply call it in the house, merits a 5-STAR rating from me for having what it is...tacos from a truck that are a tasty steal of a deal.

There is no shortage of roach coaches here around here.  But this one is consistent, clean, friendly, fast...oh, and the food is GREAT.

As posted earlier, get the taco combo.  A pair of tacos with your choice of meat in a styrofoam container  with two compartments filled with beans and rice.  Under $5.00

We get a mess of carnitas tacos, meat filled quesidilla, and I get a carne asada super burro...all for under $20.00.  I can have dinner and half of the burrito put away for lunch the next day..

In the Irvington District near Five Corners.  Going down Fremont Blvd, head west at the light by Jack In The Box.

Muy Bueno yet Barato (El Cheapo).

this place used to be way better and way cheaper when i was growing up as a kid, things like dollar tacos kept us there for lunch, but all of a sudden fremonts office workers of the world started showing up during lunch time jamming up the lines and the price sky rocketed and the quality went to crap. its still an ok spot locally or for your first time, but if you know what it used to taste like , it is surely not the same.

3.5 stars good. I guess I can't really elaborate too much on something that's meat, onions and cilantro. It's a solid taco, well priced. I personally would like a tad more meat and cilantro on it but I guess I'm getting $1.25 worth of meat so I can't complain too hard. What I like is the wide number of choices for the meat - from carne asada to cabeza to tripas. It's legit.

It would have helped my experience if they took the time to strain the meats a bit more. The juices from it just oversoaked my corn tortillas. When it comes to a food that's so barebones, every little detail goes a long way.

Huge tasty burritos a regular burrito is about 2 meals and wont break the bank (then again i've never seen a burrito truck burrito that could...).

These guys are great.  They've been in the area (used to be parked around the corner) for almost ten years.  1 of 2 my favorite burrito trucks in the east bay.

the physical location of this taco truck in incorrect. they seem to be moved from the corner to the driveway behind the pacific hand car wash. the name on the truck is "tacos de esmeralda". only on a letter size sheet does the name "la perla" appear.

entrees: tacos (1.25) burritos(4) super burritos(5.25) tortas(4) got the carne asada burrito and ate it an hour later. it's a decent sized burrito,  it had little beans and carne asada and was mostly rice. for some reason,  the burrito didn't taste right. (prepped in the morning?) it didn't taste fresh. there are hot sauce, sour carrots and other condiments to the side of the taco truck.

Cheap, tasty, fast. You really can't lose. This was the first taco truck I ever went to, and I was pretty intimidated at first, but it's painless. The folks running it are not taken aback by non-Spanish-speakers (or, for that matter, my friends who mostly speak Japanese and came by themselves). So don't worry about it if you haven't ever done it before.

0. Invent yourself a parking spot or walk over from the farmer's market.
1. Step up and study the menu.
2. Place your order.
3. Give them your money.
4. Load up on salsa cups; wrap pickled carrots etc. in the aluminum foil (both to the right side).
5. Take your food.
6. Om nom nom.
(Optional Step 5.5: Take food to Lake Elizabeth for a nice setting in which to eat, if it's not windy. There is NO seating, as with most taco trucks, except your own car's.)

I usually get a taco plate. It's probably the most balanced meal you can get for under $5 anywhere in this area. (Vegetarians might be a bit out of luck, except maybe burritowise.)

(Yes, I just invented the word "burritowise." What? It's late.)

This is one of my favorite taco trucks in Fremont.

I am not just talking about in the burritos and tacos sense, I mean just overall experience.

You know what I am talking about. That taco truck that is like the ice cream truck jinglejangling down the street. You run, dreaming about the delicious corporate concoction with high fructose corn syrup, but it doesn't matter, you're young, you're living in Decoto, and that's how you roll.

Yes, I am talking about me!

But that doesn't matter. La Perla is that taco truck. The one that I look for every time I drive down thornton ave. If it's there; I am there. And I bring my mother with me, to pay her back for all the ice creams she bought me and to eat a vegetarian burrito or a carne asada taco. As a matter of fact, it is the perfect place for mothers and sons to spend an afternoon in an abandoned parking lot near a suburban strip mall.

Que Viva La Perla!

SO YUMMY!!!

A couple of people have told me about this place and after many weeks of hearing how big the super burrito is, I got one!  I split it with my friend... it was literally more than a foot long & for only $5.25!!

The owner guy was really nice.  I was afraid he'd be grumpy like a lot of Mexican food place owners.  I asked him if I could have a fork so I could cut the burrito in half and he just cut it for me.

The burrito was so yummy!!!  I can tell those are quailty refried beans... not that other healthy junk.  The meat is good... I like the amount they give; it's probably 30% of the burrito.  And for some reason, the mixture of the sauce & cheese was to die for.  It was all on the left side and I just wanted to eat that side of the burrito only.

I will definitely go back again to try the soft tacos; everyone raves about those!

**8/24/07- Today I had 2 carne asada tacos & 1 lengua taco.  They were so good!  At first I was hesitant that they'd be good because I didn't see any red sauce but they were so flavorful (and oily at the same time)! However, my stomach does hurt right now... maybe from the lengua?

The Trimboli Way address I have given here is for the Pacific Hand Car Wash.  It is a fine car wash, but it is beside the point.  Truth be told, the car wash isn't beside the point, so much as the point is beside the car wash.

La Perla is a taco truck and more than that, it is an event.

The food is marvelous.  It is "peasant food" in the very best way: Simple, tasty, and cheap.  The tacos are deliriously juicy, the tamales are popular and the burritos would do well in Iraq (feeding armies).  Without exaggerating, the super burrito ($5.25) is as big as my forearm.  I can tuck one foil-wrapped end in my right elbow and the other end spills onto my palm.

Everything comes with your choice of meat: pollo, pastor, carne assada, carnitas, lengua, birria as well as a standout vegetarian option.  You can get either refried or whole beans (Dear lord, get the whole beans).  The tacos come with cilantro, onions, sauce and corn tortillas.  The regular burritos ($3.75) come with meat, beans, sour cream, rice, tomatoes, onions.

A deep, smokey, red salsa can be found chilling to the right of the truck along side cut radishes, peppers and carrots.  They have small takeaway salsa cups, but do not be fooled, one cup is enough.

The drink selection at the front of the truck is exceptional.  All those wonderful Mexican sodas.  My personal favorite is the Jarritos Grapefruit, but dig into the ice and you will find pineapple, guava, mango, strawberry, orange, lime as well as  brands like Sidral Mundet and Sangria Senorial.

The prices are listed and low.  They often round down the price when you order things together.  You can get three tacos and a soda for $5.00.  The Goliath super burrito has a David price tag and since you can easily stuff two people with just one, you can feed a family of four for near $10.00.  How's that for a nice weekend outing?

The outing, though, is the main attraction.  As I mentioned, this little taco truck is an event and all manor of Fremont folk make an appearance.  Sure, it feeds the hungry car wash employees, but they'll be in line with the Afghani couple who live nearby; the blue collar, red faced father trying to talk with his teenage son; the Indian woman like flowing orange ribbons on a bicycle ; the mini-van driving, Octogenarian with his three grand kids in the back seat; the High school junior who bought the Camaro to get the girl; and some lanky Guero who looks like me. For an extra treat people watching, go at about 1:00PM on a Sunday, just as church lets out.

You can drive in and find parking at the shopping center close by, but you will get more out of it as a pedestrian.  The best way to experience La Perla is on your bicycle.  Ride in, kick stand down, sit on the curb (mind the dusty cars passing through on their way to the suds) and enjoy the Earth's atmosphere with your meal; wind, sun and all.

The simple, tasty food seems to bring out the best in people.  Standing in line at the taco truck, strangers smile, four or five different languages are spoken and yet somehow everyone gets fed.

Edit: After going here for quite some time now I have concluded it is the best restaurant in Fremont.  "Let's do taco truck" is always a wise sentence to utter.

[Officially the address on the truck reads: 26712 Gadin Road / Hayward, CA - (510)264-0316]

A couple of coworkers took me to this taco truck one day for lunch. Things have never been the same for me since. I swear this is the only place in Fremont that I truly get intense cravings for. I will literally go on about this truck for a week until I get some. I don't think I see it mentioned anywhere in other reviews but I must say in addition to the amazing Tacos they have the  Quesadillas are also amazing. It is a must when I go. The chicken is amazing and packs a ton of flavor. So Good. I will normally get a Quesadilla and a few extra tacos to take home for the family. They love this place too. I really need to go back and try one of the Burritos everyone is raving about.

Fast - Yes
Cheap - Yes (on average)
Tasty - um.... it was ok. I guess its all in the salsa that I didn't take. I thought they would put some in the burrito like other places.. but that's not the case. Be sure to get fixings when you come - but I find that hard to do with a huge burrito (were talking like a foot long if not more).

Parking is hard around this area. Honestly.. I have had better off a truck. Maybe I will go back and try some tacos...

Arghhhhhh. Damn Yelp, I had forgotten all about this place but now I'm having a mad craving that I'm going to have to satisfy first thing tomorrow...

Taco Truck was my absolute fave place for burritos in Fremont through high school. We'd come and then eat on the drive home, pouring sauce and steering and having beans fall into our laps all the way. Good times. I always got the chicken burrito and that thing is enormous, but I love it. Quality Mexican all wrapped up in foil... what more could you ask for? Really. Go get a burrito ASAP.

This was THE SPOT to eat at lunch in high school. Grab a super burrito and take it back and eat somewhere on campus. We used to call them "babys" because thats how big they are.
No joke, their super burrito measures from wrist to the bend in your arm. Crazy big.
From time to time I swing by and get their veggie normal burrito. Still good, just a little messy.

Best bang for you buck burritos that I've found. I used to come here almost every day during lunch when I went to Irvington high school around the block. It used to be parked by that Autozone, but now down the street next to a car wash place.

I still have cravings for this place.

My only knock on the place is that it should be closer to where I live.

A week wouldn't go by when I didn't get a burrito from these papi chulos. I would always get a super burrito and even at only 100lbs, I could finish them in a sitting. The hot sauce is a nice complement, and don't forget your Jarritos.

As much as I like them, I've gotten some really nasty ones where the cheese tasted a bit spoiled. BUT, these burritos beat any of the places around.

First place I've gone and still my favorite.   I sometimes say wish they turned into a restaraunt but have seen many taco trucks turn into a rest.  and they all lost their flare.   This place still rocks -

i forgot hot sauce. and they didn't have the spicy pickled carrots that they use to have. oh well.

burritos werent too good when i got them a while ago. I only get the tacos. pork tacos. they are the best tacos ive eaten. it takes like 6 to fill you up though and they are 1.25 each. so it can get expensive. put the red sauce on em and get some pickled carrots from the plastic cupboard for free. check out the guys picture who owns the truck its posted on the truck and he looks funny.
