Salinas, CA
They moved to 624 Williams Road. The location is not as convenient to downtown Salinas workers. But the place itself is much nicer than their old location.
Food is just as good as ever. My usual order - Salmon Bowl and, on the side, fried plantains. Or Shrimp Tacos, the best in the County. Don't bother with the chips, they are just not as good as you'd find anywhere else. -

Taco time today and it was in Salinas. Went on Yelp to find best fish tacos and Taco Choice came up. Small shopping center, this restaurant sits in the elbow of the shopping center.
There was no in the place except for the couple that own and run it. We sat at the counter and looked over the menu. Prices were the same as everyone else in town.
I ordered a tongue taco and fish taco. The tongue was tasteless. Boiled, no seasonings.. nothing worth mentioning. The fish taco was bass fish and he grilled it and set it with some shredded cabbage and creama.
There is a small salsa station with chopped cilantro, chopped onion, limes, picantes, salsas... all homemade.
Friend had the shrimp ceviche with sliced avocado on top, a fish taco and water. I had the two tacos and a cup of coffee, freshly brewed. Cheap, tasty, clean, owners were friendly. Fish taco stood out alone...
I would recommend this place for fish tacos, for sure. -

I came here for the pupusas! I had the bean and cheese and just cheese and an order of plátanos. The pupusas were rather thin and the cheese was a bit watery. The flavor was okay but not as good as anything you'd find in L.A. The sauce and curtido were really good. The plátanos were not dry! They were sweet and reasonably moist considering our distance from the equator.
The restaurant itself looked nice. I will definitely be back for the pupusas and just try not to compare them with others. These were still okay. The plátanos alone would be worth it and there are other things I'd like to try. -

Discovered this place while searching for a late night dinner while traveling.
As already mentioned, try the fish tacos - they're fantastic. We also ordered the Tropical Chicken Burrito which featured moist chicken, plantains and avocado inside. Very tasty and filling.
Highly recommend if you're passing by Salinas! -

Tacos Choice was the right choice for dinner last night! They have the self-proclaimed, "Best Fish Tacos in Town", and they actually are, maybe even the state for that matter. The fish tacos here are the best that I've had anywhere. As stated in previous reviews, Taco's Choice does not skimp on the fish. You get a huge, perfectly grilled fillet with cabbage, tangy sauce and a lime for that extra kick, insanely delicious.
All of their other food, in my humble opinion just seemed slightly above average. I was afforded the opportunity to sample a Carnitas Burrito, which was fine and a full order of the Tropical Chicken Burrito which featured moist chicken, avocado and plantains. Who the hell puts plantains in a burrito!?? Tacos Choice does and they do it well.
The service was expeditious and friendly. We were in and out of the place within 15 minutes after footing a $25 bill, which included two drinks, a fish taco, a Carnitas burrito and the Tropical Chicken Burrito. Comparatively, Tacos Choice is pricier than other locales, but worth every penny.
Just a word of advice, as of 5/12/11, the Tacos Choice signage is missing so this location is very easy to miss. It is the building before KFC if driving north on South Main. -

Based on reviews off of Google and other websites, I though this place would be fantastic. It was pretty good, but was bland in a way, but yet tasty at the same time. The chicken from the burrito and everything else burst with flavor, but at the same time...it was as if there was a plain floury taste trying to over power the other flavors. It was weird. Overall, if you put intense amount of salsa and cilantro on it everything was okay, but it could be better. Try it out for yourself. I don't regret it, but won't say it's on my favorite restaurants list.

I have been to Tacos Choice 3 or 4 times now and their fish tacos are just outstanding! The portions of fish are large, they are very fresh, cooked to order and super tasty!
I have ordered the carnitas, and the carne asada also and although those are ok, the fish tacos are what keep me coming back. The chips and salsa are .75 but that isn't so bad considering how inexpensive the beers are and they have Blue Moon AND Sierra Nevada Pale ale on draft! I will be back again and again for the fish tacos! -

As an old school, San Francisco style burritophile, I can't say that this is the best taqueria in Salinas. HOWEVER, and that was a BIG however, this is a freakin' fabulous place!
Currently, they have a Thursday Happy Hour where fish or shrimp tacos are 2 for $3, and Coronas are $1.75. The fish tacos are perfectly cooked bits of heaven on mini corn tortillas that melt in your mouth. The shrimp tacos are speecy-spicy deliciousness. I would love to try their meat tacos which are 99 cents each on Thursday, but I doubt I'll get past the fish and shrimp tacos!
On my first visit with a bunch of friends, I also tried the sweet potato fries $3.99, and the special chicken burrito with the plantains and avocado $8.99. While more expensive than a regular taqueria, these were taste sensations. If you're penurious, try the daily specials which are low cost ways to try new dishes.
I can't wait to go back! -

Salinas, CA
Tacos Choice is good. I've been there enough to fill out two taco choice cards. It's the only place in Salinas in an easily accessible location that has a different "flavor* incorporated in their menu..as far as Mexican cuisine in the area goes.... Their incorporation of the plantains.."carribean flavor" and sweet potato fries.... gives it that "different feeling" ... I've had their shrimp cocktails.. burritos... shrimp and fish tacos... chabellas...Though, I've yet to try their famous burger or tropical ribs, but it sounds good!
Prices are OK, not outstanding for what you get. Also, the main waitstaff that is there, is usually one person... and the chef. Which is okay, but not during lunch hour.... I'm a generous tipper, but not there, during lunch hour... Not if I have to move the mess off the tables, and can't find a napkin to wipe the previous person's mess.... Today I went and they were out of Sweet Potato Fries, the sauce that makes the "Carribean Burrito", Carribean... AND HORCHATA! That was sort of lame. But is a sign of good business, right? Also, the process in which people are seated... isn't indicated, so... it gets chaotic.
Are you ordering, in line, waiting for a table, or.... waiting for a table to be cleaned? Is this guy who is now interrupting my order trying to cut, mid-chat, to pay his bill? Yep, this will happen to you....
Good to go after 2 pm, Or before 12pm. Careful for the outdoor seating. too! The umbrellas have fallen on my little girls head before!
Oh, and due to economic constraints.. chips and salsa will be .75 cents now. :) Am I cheap? No... do little expenditures for restaurants bug me? YES! That's like paying for extra ranch when you already ordered all you can eat salad! :)
Try it. You'll like it. Cozy.. get to know your neighbor.. or keep your secrets to yourself! :)
Overall, yes, tastes good. pretty tasty - pretty and tasty,
it's light.. not over seasoned... there some healthier-choices and portion sizes, creative flavoring, well-paired combinations, and... they have sweet potato fries and tastily-sized shrimp tacos! -

Go here for Shrimp or Fish tacos and you won't be disappointed!
I've had shrimp tacos in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas, & Zihuatenejo, and Taco's Choice beats them all. THE BEST shrimp tacos around! I'm glad I'm only 5 minutes away. -

This is the original Tacos Choice location. They have the best fish tacos, with fairly large pieces of fish, properly grilled - neither overcooked (as is usually the case) or undercooked. Ask for extra lime, and squeeze the lime over the fish for a wonderful extra bite of tang.
Great salsas, good beer on tap. The store has beach/surf decor, with colorful surfboards, etc. -

I love this place. Great fish and shrimp tacos and burritos in what I call Carribean-style Mexican. Nice patio in front.

I was turned on to this place by a fellow foodie co-worker. Truth be told, the only thing I've ever eaten here is the shrimp tacos. The reason being that the shrimp tacos are so good that I can't bear the risk of trying anything else and ruining a potentially great lunch. The sauce they put on the shrimp tacos really makes it.

Fabulous, best in Salinas. Not your run of the mill taco stand. Owner/chef used to be chef at Hulas in Monterey. Here he has recreated some Hula's favorites, the sweet potato fries, fish tacos, lobster tacos, with great special sauces for each. The spicy chicken burrito with fried plantains and slices of avocado is unusual and delicious. Daily seafood specials, BBQ ribs, excellent food. Their motto is: Si no conoces Tacos Choice, no conoces Salinas! (If you don't know tacos choice, you don't know Salinas)

Salinas, CA
This place is great for their "Mariscos". The fish taco's are absolutely delicious and the lunch portion is quite generous. Shrimp tacos are another specialty, however today my wife tried the chile verde burrito and was very pleased with the taste and tenderness of the meat. Sweet potato fries are excellent and for a taqueria they serve a mean burger. love the outside dining and service. Definitely at the top of my list.

i used to love this place, the owner is really nice, and the carne asada quesadilla is good, but when i ordered the burrito it was such a big disappointment the meat was not good and just overall bad.
