Review from Nora C.
San Antonio, TX
I have lived in TX for 6 years and this place has the best tacos I've had yet. GO HERE.
I liked the staff, the laid-back (though busy) atmosphere on a Saturday at lunch, and the delicious, delicious food. I can personally recommend the Frontera Fundido chicken taco and the Heather veggie taco as well as the guac and queso, but I imagine you would be happy with anything you picked off the menu.
I also give them bonus points for having eclectic options like bison tacos. -

The green hot sauce is like nothing you have ever tried, the first taste bites you but then it grows on you. The queso is the best in Austin, make sure you get a large if you have more than two people. Before you order check the board to see if they have any specials since they normally rock. Today they had smoked pork bellow tacos' which melted in your mouth.
My only issue with Taco D is they close at 3!!! I wish they stayed open later or for dinner. -

Best tacos I've ever eaten (possibly also the smallest - don't be shy about trying a few different ones). Good location next to the Spyglass Green Belt entrance, so the place makes for a great post Green Belt stop. Pleasant and spacious outside eating area. Expect to pay more than at your typical taco joint.
The place is quite popular so it gets crowded around lunch time. Expect to stand in line, but don't worry - it moves rather quickly.
The main con of the place is that it doesn't have a bike rack. -

Hands down the best Taco place in Austin!
We went there for lunch during a weekday and it was packed. The line was out the door and the wait for the food was a bit longer than i would have liked but it was a gorgeous sunny day in January and the food was well worth the wait so no one really minded. I got a scallops taco and the mole chicken taco and they were delicious. Scallops were really fresh and the mole sauce was fantastic. -

Go here. Eat! Enjoy yummy tacos with the tree-dappled view. Service was very friendly - at the cash register and after (they checked on me to make sure I was satisfied with my food).
Though the location is not very convenient, I would be happy to drop by every once in awhile for a breakfast taco with migas. I haven't tried everything but I can recommend the Adobados over the Chicken Mole. And go for the Dona sauce! -
Review from Kelly R.
In my opinion the best tacos in Austin. The frontera fundido portbello and florentino are my favourites. Probably one of the only places that you can get some yummy vegetarian option tacos. They only serve these tacos for lunch though which makes me really sad.
You still have some yummy options with the breakfast tacos for vegetarians: spinach, portabello, beans, mashed potatoes) -

I'm reaaalllyyy trying to cut back on my 5-star reviews to be more even-handed, but I don't feel right giving this place 4 stars after having given Torchy's 5. (love them both)
Tried this place, and it was delicious and affordable. Lots of outdoor seating (can bring doggie!), fast service, and a great setting right across from the Spyglass Greenbelt entrance.
Not to beat a dead horse, but the Dona sauce is indeed todiefor. A+. -

I love taco deli. Its true I do. I love the mexico city sirloin and would have it every single day if I could. I also enjoy their migas for breakfast but honestly can only think of the mexico city sirloin every time I'm eating it. Another great selection is the deli belly and if its on the menu definitely give it a try.
I'm also a huge fan of the watermelon juice because who doesn't like watermelon juice..I mean come on?
Sitting outside on their patio eating my mexico city sirloin with rice and beans and a small salad and sipping on a watermelon auga fresca is my idea of a perfect lunch and I will likely have it several hundred times next year. -

Amazing tacos! I thought I had found my favorite tacos at Torchy's, but Tacodeli offers a whole array of tacos that are delectable in their own way...it's honestly hard to compare which I like better, Tacodeli or Torchy's, since each has their own unique flavors that make my mouth water.
It's been a few months since I went, but from what I can remember, the Cowboy Taco was one of my favorites.
The line goes out the door but was worth the wait. Thankfully we went on a gorgeous, sunny day. The inside seating is limited so instead enjoyed our food out on the patio.
Their menu had so many tacos to choose from. I'm sure the next time I'm in Austin, I'll be sure try try out a few more! -

I wish I liked this place, but those mashed potatoes just freak me out. It gives the entire taco this soggy, soft consistency, and coming from someone who is typically not bothered by texture of foods, it takes a lot for me to say that. I just like my tacos to have some nice, crunchy spuds in there, among the other various fixin's.
Apart from the squishy spuds the rest of the taco is delicious, the salsa is fantastic, and the staff was prompt and polite. -

The scallop taco is awesome. They make these on Thursdays only, and be sure to show up for lunch early as they will sell out.

Austin, TX
I come here almost everyday, simply the best tacos in the world... Plain and simple. Their sauces aren't to weak, and no to strong. Love the burn from their Habenero sauce. If only they served GHOST CHILIS! But in all honesty, if you want a nice local Austin joint with employees that love their job and make sure they put a smile on your face, you MUST come here!

I love Tacodeli. I go there two or three times a week. Their beans are fantastic. The Papadulce and Puerco Borrachio tacos are great. The Dona sauce is out of this world. I tell my friends they are my favorite nontraditional tacos in Austin. But no more.
Today I showed up at Tacodeli at 10:56-according-to-my-phone. Breakfast tacos end at 11:00. The line was pretty long, so I settled in for a wait.
At 11:01-according-to-my-phone I finally get called up to the counter by a grumpy-looking rockabilly woman with a tattooed chest. I start ordering and got cut off with "we can't give you eggs past 11", and disdainful eye contact that silently communicated "shut up, I don't want to hear it". I say something to the effect of "ah, the line was long, give me a sec with the menu", intending to change my order to a couple lunch tacos.
The moment my hand touched the menu the woman instantly turned to the guy behind me and beckoned him over. In the time it took him to walk over, I made my decision and he and I ended up calling out our first taco simultaneously. He won the cashier's attention because apparently I was a time-wasting fuck who not only tried to order breakfast tacos a minute late but also had the audacity to look at the menu for 15 seconds.
Utter service fail. RAGE. I turned around and walked away, and drove over to Julio's where I got some great cheaper breakfast tacos, smiling service, and they didn't skimp on the eggs. -

Over 2 years later:
I've been eating here nearly twice a week since. The mole taco and the carne asada are still the best. Other notables include the cowboy, adobados, and the achiote chicken.
A quick lunchtime tip: If you arrive and see the line way out the door, call in your order from the line, then skip the line and pickup 15 minutes later.
Tacodeli, I drink your Doña sauce. I drink it up.1 Previous Review: Show all »

My favorite gourmet tacos in the world. We've been coming to this joint for years now- the Spyglass location is a pleasant surprise! In an unassuming neighborhood, it has a great vibe with the same great customer service and quality as the other restaurants. I'm a fan!

Austin, TX
It's hard for me to review Taco Deli, because they're my favorite breakfast taco when they get it right (which is most of the time), but pretty disappointing when they don't.
I will say that I have had most success at the south location.
BREAKFAST TACOS
- Papas, papas, and PAPAS - Mexican mashed potatoes are the way to go. I wouldn't get them as a main topping, but rather as a sauce/add-on. It adds a dimension to the taco, and the best way for me to explain it is it peacefully bridges the eggs with the monterrey.
- El Popeye - If you like spinach, this won't disappoint. In my opinion, this is their top specialty taco. There's something about spinach and eggs that really gets my heart pumping.
- Titus L.'s Popeye - Try the El Popeye, but ADD sausage and papas. This is my favorite.
- Migas - I might just take Torchy's here because of their corn strips, but Taco Deli's is nice and simple.
- The Jess Special - It's basically their glorified migas taco, so if you're the flashy type, skip the one above.
- Vaquero - Really, the creativity of this breakfast taco is what caught me initially. I mean, it's absolutely genius when you blend eggs with grilled corn and roasted pablanos. The mix of flavors in this breakfast taco are very apparent once it touches your taste buds. It's a very flavorful breakfast taco, which is obviously quite a changeup from the tradition BEC (bacon/egg/cheese)
TACOS
- Mole Sirloin - Pretty much I get this every time I'm here. They do the sirloin justice--cooking it in cubes to maintain the tenderness/juiciness.
TORTAS
- Honestly, I would stay away from these bad boys. They really are bad boys...no, seriously. At ~$9 a pop, they really don't do anybody justice. Besides, it's not Torta Deli...
Well there you have it--Titus L's favorite breakfast taco in Austin. Please don't forget to use their Dona (creamy green) sauce. It packs a punch, but it's the most flavorful in my opinion. If you just can't handle the spice, I'm a believer in their medium salsa as well.
TIP - Stop by the Greenbelt right after eating, or even bring your meal for a hiking picnic. A Greenbelt entrance lies right across the street from TD, and it's one of my favorite combos (TD hiking) on a Saturday morning. Take the trail to the left, and you'll find a good number of tiny waterfalls. Hike, enjoy nature, and EAT BREAKFAST TACOS. -

Like many other reviewers, I'm an uber-fan of Torchy's. So much so that I hadn't gotten around to trying Taco Deli until today (sad too since they're closer to my office). Well, all I can say is SCORE!
I was in a let's-do-vegetarian mode today and I wasn't disappointed at all. I called in for a blue plate combo with 1 Florentino and 1 Veggie tacos, wheat tortillas, brown rice and black beans. This was absolutely what I wanted and I didn't even know it! Every bite just as good as the first. The veggies were sautteed - still crisp, not overly seasoned or oiley - really just perfect in my opinion. I didn't even have to pick the celery out of the Veggie taco and that's saying a lot if you knew my dislike for that stuff. I think the guys over on Spyglass will be seeing WAY more of me after this.
Torchys still rocks, but hands down, do yourself a favor go to Taco Deli if you want to go the veggie route (I have a feeling the meaty versions won't disappoint either). Can't wait to try a breakfast taco....maybe tomorrow... -

Mojo Fish Tacos are a must, and they taste best when paired with a sweet drink since they're pretty salty. I recommend an agua fresca, especially cantaloupe, honeydew or watermelon. The chips & queso are excellent too. Plus I like that they have outdoor seating (albeit in a parking lot overlooking Mopac).
Only complaint is that the access in & out of their parking lot is tricky/ confusing/ inconvenient. -

There are several things I love about this TacoDeli, and several things I do not. All in all, I would say it's about 3 stars, but I'll give it four because I have a feeling their lunch tacos might be awesome, but I've never had the chance to try them. That's not their fault, right?
So, to start, this place is right around the corner from my apartment complex. That is a plus. What is not a plus, is the fact that on any given day, it would probably be faster for me to drive out of the way, because this place is constantly PACKED. Like the last time I ordered at the counter, it took 30-mins to receive my order packed.
Obviously this speaks volumes to the popularity of this taco shack, but it is, nonetheless, inconvenient. One piece of advice: CALL IN YOUR ORDER!!!
Because this place is so packed, things are always moving at a frenetic pace. Unfortunately, this causes mistakes. On my second to last visit, I came in, placed an order for three vegetarian breakfast tacos, and three vegan (no cheese) to bring in to work. Because this was my 30-minute-wait visit, I grabbed my tacos and left. Big mistake.
When I got into work, I gave my sister (who was the one who had asked me to get tacos, and also the vegan) the bag of tacos. As we started opening them, it became clear that every. single. taco. was smothered in cheese. So, I was late to work, and I wasn't even the late person that brought breakfast, because despite repeating my order to me at the counter, then again before handing it to me, it was still incorrect.
That being said, their hot sauces (the creamy jalapeno and bright orange habanero) are A-MA-ZING, and they set my mouth on fire in that addictive, I know I shouldn't but I just can't stop way. Which definitely earns them a star, right?
So:
1.0 star for proximity
-.5 star for wait times
2.0 stars for deliciousness (when they get it right)
-.5 star for screwing things up because they're in a hurry (and never punching my free taco card)
1.0 star for staff that really seem to love their jobs
= 3 stars + 1 star for potential lunch awesomeness = 4 stars! -

2 Cowboys on corn! Just walk in there and place this order. You won't be disappointed. One of the best tacos you can buy in Austin.

I was really impressed with this place! I hadn't heard of it before so I decided to give it a try.
I got the Cowboy and the Puerco Verde. The cowboy was soooo packed with falvor and oh so perfect and juicy. I was mad at myself for putting sauce on it because it really don't need it.
The puerco verde was very yummy as well. My mom got the scallop taco which was unique but I liked it. I didn't really care for the corn tortilla that they suggested but that's probably just because I prefer flour over anything.
It was pretty busy when I went- it was noon on a Thursday but the line was quick and the orders came out quick as well. The staff were very friendly.
Overall I love this place and I'm definitely coming back for some breakfast tacos! -

Austin, TX
In a city full of taco places, Taco Deli is by far my favorite. I've been many times, and each time the quality of the tacos has been top notch, at each location, and I've yet to find anything on the menu that hasn't been amazingly good. I would highly recommend the daily special tacos as they tend to be the best in my opinion, particularly those on Monday and Friday, though that may have something to with their limited availability making them seem that much more tasty. And one warning, the thick green Dona sauce some days can be VERY hot, and due to it's creamy nature, that burn can last a long time.

Food is bomb! Atmosphere is butter on biscuits! Hella hot ladies and a rockin spot to dip in to the green belt. Basically austin in a nutshell mixed with some buttery ass tacos! Also a gasstation next door that slangs 40 ozs. So you can chug after you grub. Then go get blitzed creiged in the greenbelt. Come back and eat more tacos dude! Dont get bfast and if you do, dont order the papas. Heard they were mushy like a big juicy tooshy. In a bad way. The wait sucks so order ahead or show up stoned so you can chug a few cups of soda pop to get the cotton mouf status on the low fa show while ur tacos slow roast essay. Heard the cowboy was the shiz, i get the chkn frontera. With a side of pinto beaners. Get on it, dont be a dipshit.

This place makes a hella good taco. Buffalo was the best of the two I tried.
It's right off the greenbelt too - you should definitely plan a pitstop here on your hike. -
Review from Susan H.
I feel conflicted after being introduced to the other taco place that went from trailer's to a couple of dine in buildings with torch's. Taco Deli is good - they have a great selection to satisfy most cravings in the taco world. This particular one is busy busy busy no open setting most days during lunch unless you get there really early. I do love the variety in the breakfast taco's and usually find myself eating breakfast with them over lunch.
Parking can be annoying during rush hour and I would recommend calling in your order or arriving early.
They are definitely one of the better taco places in town and running a quick race but the "torch" is still in the other's hand. -
Review from Kris U.
Helllllloooooo Scallop Thursdays! The scallop taco is so delectable. Grilled, marinated plump and plentiful scallops reside inside that tortilla. No additional sauce needed; trust me, try it without. This is my new favorite taco in Austin.
My second favorite taco is the Thunder Heart Bison Picadillo. I have always adored the lowly ground beef picadillo taco, but this one surpasses all the others. The lean, seasoned savory bison meat , combined with roasted garlic, caramelized onions, jack cheese, tomatoes and jalapenos, is a taste sensation.Listed in: Both Sides of the Border

By far, my favorite taco place. You can't go wrong with any taco at Tacodeli. Pork, steak, shrimp, tuna, scallop, chicken, you name it, its going to taste amazing.
Mexican coke and Dublin Dr Pepper are the perfect drinks to wash it all down. If you're really hungry, the chips and fresh guacamole are a great way to start. The queso is great too. -

This place is just so good. I offer my top 3:
1. Beef Cowboy Taco
2. Al Pastor
3. Frontera Fundido
Dona sauce is awesome, as is the habanero.
I usually call in and pick up because there is always a line out the door! -

Oh, Tacodeli. I love you.
This is a great place for vegetarians and their pork-loving boyfriends. If I can convince bf to get out of bed early enough, we get to go to Tacodeli. Yum.
I am the biggest fan of the "The Heather" taco. Refried black beans, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled Mexican cheese--oh, so good.
I also love their breakfast taco selections. The Jess Special is great. Avocado and migas perfectly wrapped in a tortilla.
I can't think of one bad thing to say about Tacodeli. Just remember to get there early (they close at 3 pm) and be ready to stand in line (it's so popular because it is so good). -

Ok so first I love the tacos. My favorite is the Otto (black beans, bacon, avocado, and cheese) on wheat tortillas. I also love that the place is pet-friendly. The service is friendly and warm. People have made a point of learning my name since I've moved nearby and go once or twice a week. On a recent trip there another dog attacked my dog and one of the servers (Patrick) actually jumped into the fray and started punching the attacking dog in the head. WOW. I will never eat tacos anywhere else. Oh, also try the Cowboy taco.

tacodeli, you are truly amazing. i fell in love with your breakfast tacos years ago when i used to pick them up at Little City, but then our office moved away. i miss my jess' special!!
little did i know this was a blessing as now i get to see you in your full glory at lunch!!! the heather is amazing, i get one every time i go, i absolutely love it with all my shiny red heart. the fish tacos are superb, always super fresh and full of flavor no matter which one you get.
now, thursday is scallop taco day. if you love scallops and you love yourself, then you better be at tacodeli on thursdays showing the love! the scallops are perfectly cooked every time, never rubbery or weird, they just melt in your mouth.
friday is melt your heart ceviche day. i get it as a taco, though i'm sure with chips it's just as delightful. the ceviche is amazing, perfectly hot with the bits of peppers and served with a dollop of their amazing guac. man i love the guac there...you also get this delighful treat on the heather. -

Maybe the Taco's I got were not as good as I tried the buffalo (which was essentially ground meat) and the Mole Chicken (which was semi dry).
I looked upon my colleagues taco's with envy as I dowsed my taco's in sauce (3rd level of hotness) which compensated for the non fulfilling innards of the tacos.
I will give this place another shot once I make my rounds of all other taco's place in Austin. -

MMM tacos.
My favorite was the cowboy, which was laden with the good stuff. Douse it with some verde salsa and you are good to go. The taco loco and otto were also very good.
My only developmental feedback is to offer a crispy taco option. I love my tacos crispy. But, that is all. Damn near perfect -

Tacodeli, Izzoz, or Torchy's?
On any given day, these "artisan" taco joints are all solid choices and similar in price and their uniquely-creative offerings.
This Tacodeli is practically hidden within a multi-family residential area, but once you find it, it really delivers with some cool and funky offerings. We had the Heather, Chicken Mole, Cowboy and some fish tacos. We also enjoyed their slightly "puffy" chips (not a bad thing!) with most of their salsas. YUM!!
Now the $64K question....if I found myself closer to South 1st, would I drive over to Tacodeli in lieu of Izzoz or Torchy's? Probably not but hey, it's all good amigo! -

What a jewel of a find! They serve breakfast past 11 on the weekends, tasty food and reasonable price. I think all the hip Austinites go here too. A waiter came and took our order, made some suggestions and before we knew the order was ready. Really great queso and the tacos were tasty. I even noticed that they have cerviche. OMG I think everything on this menu is yummy. We had the Cowboy tacos and I had the breakfast taco plate. There is a variety of salsas to choose from.
Seating is outside but they have misters and it's shady so not bad. Mexican cokes and juices. My Chiro told me about this place and I'm so glad I checked it out. -

I pick up tons of tacos every week for my employers. I'm the kid who's employed to pick up food and make deliveries where I work. I'm usually at Taco Deli 3-4 times a day. We call the orders in which makes it a lot easier. The staff is awesome, even when it's busy they take the time to ask how you're doing. This location is packed on a daily basis. It's near several office buildings, and an apartment complex. It can be a long wait during lunch, but it's not bad if you call the orders in. I eat there more than is probably healthy for me but it's a must if you're in Austin. Bean and cheese, or otto tacos are my favorite breakfast taco, and cowboy tacos for lunch. Good food, low prices, and friendly staff make for a good place to eat.

Usually, I get Tacodeli's tacos but today I was feeling frisky so I ordered the Adobo chicken torta. Torta is spanish for deliciously awesome sandwich (I paraphrase only slightly).
While the torta bun itself wasn't super exciting, the black bean and jalapeno spreads added a zesty layer to complement the tasty Adobo chicken. I topped it with the amazing creamy jalapeno dona salsa.
One tip: make sure that you get a knife and fork because the torta while delicious is not particularly structurely sound.
