Ask yourself...

You: "Self, is there anything better than sitting on a dirty street curb noshing on some taco truck cuisine after a night of drinks at the Tiki Ti?"

Self: "Not really, that pretty much takes the cake."

You: Damn skippy!

Okay, so maybe you don't have self convos like I do sometimes, but I'm sure you will agree that the offerings coming from this spot are the awesome. I love me a good taco truck and this one definitely delivered on the goods.

I kept it simple with an asada quesadilla and the BF had some pork tacos. His looked good, but I couldn't keep my Mexican food loving eyes off my plate of ooey gooey wrapped in tortilla love! Saaawooon :)

I would definitely recommend stopping by here if you should find yourself hungry late at night and in the Silverlake/Echo Park area. There are also tons of hipsters getting their late night fill and happily, most weren't vegans and actually meat eaters! Huzzah, there is hope in the world!

I was very excited about Taco Zone after reading all the great reviews on Yelp.  The place is far from me but I planned a special trip just to try their tacos.

It was a rather disappointing experience.  To start, the truck is dirty even a little gross.  Don't get me wrong, I have been to getto places, dirty places, taco stands in Mexico with flies circling, but this is the first time I actually got a little worried.

I figured what the heck, still went ahead and ordered my tacos.  I tried cabeza, carnita and buche and none of them were good.  Cabeza too dry, buche too soft and the worst is the carnita taco, it is wet, soaked in sauce.  My bf is a taco hunting newbie, even he said these are not good tacos.

I have to be a little fair, the tacos are not good, but still edible.  Probably a 2 stars.  I am giving it a 1 star because it is so much worse than I expected.  I don't think I will ever go back again and it is going to be a forever mystery to me why so many ppl are raving about this dirty taco truck.

After the yelp party in Long Beach, Anthony S and I were craving tacos as we didn't eat any at the party and while driving up the 710, Taco Zone came to mind. It didn't take that long to get there, even if a certain Mr. S almost got us killed (ahem).

We decided we were hungry enough to tackle four tacos each. I had the al pastor, carnitas, lengua and buche. Four tacos for $5.25. Anthony's four cost just $5 but it may because I went with those "crazy meats" and he stuck with carne asada and al pastor.

My favorite of the four was the lengua. I didn't care for the buche that much and had trouble telling the al pastor apart from the carnitas. Both were a little too dry for me.

But I liked the truck in general with its plentiful salsas and the nice people running the truck. Erm, I mean stall pulled by a truck. That's right, this isn't your typical taco truck.

It was parked in front of a Vons so there's plenty of parking in the Vons lot.

I've been coming here consistently for the past month or so and it's been awesome every time. I'm a taco nazi so u will listen to me when I say this place RULES! The asada is flawless. No gooey gristle here. The suadero is freekin amazing and their salsas are pretty rad, not as hot as king taco but it's all good. The avacado salsa is freekin tasty boosk all up in your glutes! Plenty of parking in the Vons lot too holmes! Get in the zone... (guitar/drum break) Taco Zone!!! (outro drum fill wih a pick slide) Booosh!
PS - This place does NOT give you the runs.

After spending five weeks in Spain, the culmination of my studies arrives at this day when I order my tacos speaking espanol. There is more to being Mexican than eating great tacos late at night with your Echo Park hispsters in the parking lot of a Vons right before you run a red light, but let's face it, my people might have the corner on all things that tastes good in your mouth. This place has your asada, carnitas, plus lengua and tripe. For the latter, I'll let you read Shauna D.'s review, but for my review, I want to focus on the kindness and quickness these Latinas had in making sure the food was hot and tastes like tu abuela makes it.

Been going here since I moved to L.A. the first time.  And I love it!

The line may be a bit long on the drinking nights but it is WELL worth it.  Try the suadero (brisket) or just play it safe and get the carne asada.  I've had all of their items and all of their meats but the last two are my faves.

After you order head to the right and grab your accoutrement so that when your order is ready you can nom-nom-nom on down!

The truck is now located on the side of Von's on Alvarado, near Glendale Blvd.  Conveniently (wink wink) there is a drive through convenience store just across the way.  The tacos are grrrrrreat with a couple of ice-cold cervezas all consumed off of a truck's lowered tailgate in the Von's parking lot.

Absolutely scrumptious.  I've had quite a few interesting convos while in line and while waiting.  Some great eye-candy and some prime eavesdropping opportunities.  I'm a cheap bastard, a foodie, love to be nosey and listen to what people are talking about, and a connoisseur of the fairer type.  It doesn't get better than Taco Zone for me!

OMG, this has to be the very BEST taco truck EVERRR!  The ladies there are very nice & give off that "mom" vibe.  My boyfriend took me there about a month ago and I've been hooked since. It's become our "special place."
The first time I went there, I couldn't believe the line. There must have been at least 15-20 people waiting to order and another 10 sitting around eating. That alone told me the place was awesome, especially because the line was made up of mostly latin folk, and as some of you may know, we latins are picky about our latin food.
I love the Taco Zone truck!  I'll follow it anywhere it goes.
The asada & suadero tacos are to die for... I could eat those tacos every day of my life and never get tired of them. The salsa's are freaking delicious, just like mexican moms make them!
Don't be afraid to try any of their tacos, quesadillas, etc. You will NOT be disappointed.
& to those of you wondering; NO, I was not drunk the first time I ate there. I was sober and the tacos were delicious!  My only regret is that I didn't wear my "eatin' pants" that night. My tastebuds could've enjoyed themselves that much more.  It's ok, though, I now carry my "eatin' pants" in my car just in case the Taco urge hits me square in the belly!

I didn't pay attention to the prices because I was there with my guy & well, you know! lol
Since he didn't complain, I'll assume the prices were fair.

You haven't had good tacos until you've tasted Taco Zone truck!

Oh Taco Zone Truck, how I love thee (sigh)... don't ever leave me, please!  & don't ever scare people again by being late! (Yes, there was a panic the night the truck didn't show up at its usual time)

Buen apetito!

Been goin for the taco zone truck for a good while and it never ceases to amaze me.  i remember when it burned down and i got a message via text from a friend about it...i was pretty upset!  anyway, im so glad that they got back up on their feet because their veggie burritos are to die for.  my only complaint is that id love to see some avocado in there and then their burrito would be perfection.  i must add that these burritos are HUGE and like 4 bux so they are easy on the wallet too.  i couldnt ask for a better meal.  really...it beats going to a crumby overpriced restaurant that serves up soupy and plain tasting veg burritos. i say lame to that.
thumbs up taco zone.  i heart you!

2nd verse, same as the first....

Post Hollywood Outdoor Cinema debauchery (ok not really but yeah), by the time Laura, Melissa and I got back to the car to drop off our stuff, we decided to just bounce and get something to eat.  We tried pupusas, but the one pupuseria we saw was closed, so we decided on tacos.  This was the closest one both Laura and I knew.

It's a taco truck.  Nothing really changed.  The usual offerings with the self serve salsa bar.  I still don't like that you order and get your food from the same window, having to worm by people.  Whatev....

With my relatively recent discovery of the goodness that is a tripa taco, I got one of those, 1 cabeza, and 1 carnitas.

The carnitas was the same as last time.  Browned and kind of crispy.  But I don't prefer one way over the other, because hey, it's a pork product and I'll eat anything that came off of a pig.  Well, except for its entrails.... *GAG*

The cabeza was alright, but I like it at ETM better.  The tripa was pretty good and similar to Pelon Taco Stand.

Overall I still think I prefer ETM, and not just because it's way closer.

I HAVE DIED AND GONE TO LENGUA HEAVEN.

Seriously, I may not ever be able to eat another lengua taco (unless it's from Taco Zone) and be satisfied...Talk about some good tongue, the meat is ridiculously tender. And for $1.25 a taco? I could live off of their lengua tacos alone.

I also tried a suadero taco,  an al pastor taco, and a carne asada burrito. The suadero was flavorful but reeeaaallly dry. The pastor taco and asada burrito were DDDDD-licious though. I even forgot to ask for my burrito with no rice, but I didn't regret it. They didn't use a ton of it, and what was in there tasted lightly seasoned and was a finer, lighter rice that was super yummy. I mostly used the orangish red colored sauce, which was spicy enough and tasty, but I put the green avocado based sauce on my burrito and that was good as well.

My advice to you (if you haven't already) is:
GET IN THE FUCKING ZONE!!!
Or die sad, your choice.
Oh yeah, and bring beer. Make sure you have enough for me.

two words...KING TACO

this place isnt horrible but not great either. i guess their faux marinated meat/wannabe king taco asada didnt hit the spot for me. it just tasted like they sprayed it with a bunch of lemon after it was cooked. i asked for the all meat asada and got one with rice and beans which totally threw off the meat as well (imo).

pretty cheap though, but never going back thats for sure unless somehow leo's and king taco all close down.

What can I say? I have a Taco Zone addiction. Full-blown.

The suadero is to die for, and if you don't feel like eating meat, they do great vegetarian (tacos, quesadillas, burritos). Their condiment bar is full and varied, and best of all, this place is CHEAP.

For me, the Taco Zone truck is not some last-resort stop, reserved only for nights of drunken debauchery. I enjoy those tasty little tacos especially when I am stone-cold sober, as it turns out.

I've seen the (very few) negative reviews here, and can only surmise that no place is immune to having an off-night. But as for the 30+ times I've patronized Taco Zone, I have yet to experience a less-than-delicious taco.

A crown jewel in the taco trucks of LA, used to live up the street. I felt no need to write a review until last night Monday the 17th of August I saw a little shit bag-pussy-ass gang banger on a cheap ass mountain bike roll up all methed out, to collect payment from from the lady running the truck. While his fat little buddy with a backpack waited down the street, hmmm he probably had a squirt gun.
Just by coincidence i just read today the 18th, the truck was fire bombed, probably while I was moving.
If Garcetti was serious about cleaning up gangs the city would covertly catch this bullshit extortion on tape.

I was sooo bumbed last time I went.. I dont know if the quality went down because more people are coming? My asada taco did not look like asada. I asked to make sure she got the order right..she said "yes". So I took a bite and was soo sad. I dumped my meat  and just ate the tortilla. It was so sad and very depressing..use to love this spot.

I've been going here for years. It was never yummy enough for me to want to write a review. Or maybe I was never sober enough to really savor/remember, since I usually end up here after 2 am. HOWEVER, twice (yes, 2 times) over the last few months did I have a bad experience. I crave a burro de asada. But I get chitlins and rice. I swear. I know what chitlins taste like, and on at least one of these chitlin occasions I was totally sober. It was gross. That taste just stays with your for days.

Never again...

Update: We went tonight (06/15/09) Taco Zone is up and running!! Everyone should head on down and grab a 'dilla!
__________________________________________________ ____

Went last night (6/6/09) after a night in hollywood, and I saw one of the most saddest things i've ever seen...

lights flashing...chaos ensued...fire department scrambling around...civilians looking for their loved ones...ladies and gents...the taco zone truck has burned down!! I'm not sure exactly what happened...but when I got there around 12:45, I saw the LAFD taking pictures, no one eating bomb 'dillas, and the top of the truck charred as if it was on fire. Please keep this updated if you guys see them back. I need a 'dilla.

Here's my review prior to the "Great echo park taco truck tragedy 2009"

This taco truck is heavenly! Bless those 2 ladies, and their magic cooking hands.

Simply the best chicken quesadilla I've ever ate! The Suadero is good as well, but the chicken has more fill to it. I go just about ever week after an always interesting night of intoxication. Tacos are good, the pastor is nice and juicy. They even have horchata! This is "THE" best spot to hit up after any night. I believe they are there till 2am, please correct me if I'm wrong.

My friend Jen blogs, and one day, she posted a video of a group of friends enjoying food at Taco Zone Truck. Needless to say, on my next visit to LA, I HAD to try it! We parked in the Vons lot next to the truck and stood in line. I ordered a suadero burrito because suadero was the recommended meat. The burrito was good, a little on the dry side, so make sure to grab salsa or pico de gallo before heading back to the car. The quesadillas that others ordered looked REALLY good. More like 3.5 stars, but I have yet to try the other meats - cabeza included.

This taco truck is run by some very smart ladies. They park right next to Vons, so all taco truck goers have a space to park their own cars. The truck opens up at 7pm, which is perfect because that's when the "No Parking" zone ends. Then they're open till 2am and 3am for the late night crowd.

What?  There's a line to get some head and tongue?

I guess it's a given that you're always gonna have to wait for some good head with some tongue action.  I heard standing in line ... there's no such thing as bad head, just not so great head.  I didn't even get the full experience.  I just had a small taste of it.

Well ... just to make things clear, I'm talking about cabeza and lengua tacos.

Don't worry they have all your other favorites too.  Carne asada, al pastor, pollo and tripas.  They even had something I've never tried before, suadero. Yeah they also have burritos, quesadillas and a mini-salsa bar too.

Next time I'm in the area again ... I know where to go to get some good head and tongue.  I'll be back again!  Hopefully sometime soon.  If not, it wouldn't be a bad thing searching for it in other places.

Yes, I'm still talking about tacos.

Oh yeah, here's the useful part.

The truck is parked outside of the parking lot of a Vons so that's where you can park. But who's looking for Vons at 2am in the morning?

Cheek, tongue, breast, head, butt - no, I'm not trying to seduce you with my words.  These are all cow parts you can order at the taco truck.  Like Laura B., I'm not a fan of late night eating.  I'd rather the cow have a big ass than me.  Taco Zone serves up all of the above and the usual goodies like carne asada & chicken in taco, burrito, torta, quesadilla or plate form.  There are even veggie options for those who aren't fans of cow and chicken bits.  They have all the fixins you need to do your beef right.  I had two tacos for $2.50.  TWO-FITTY!  Taco zone knows what's up!  We're in a recession - make my food good and make it cheap, fast and with a smile.  I got all of that at TZ.

You can feel cool chillin' with your cow butt in hipsterific Echo Park, preening outside the Vons parking lot.  They're open late, so you can stumble out of the bar at closing time and satisfy your late night cravings.  As a bonus - it's not smelly.  For me, there is nothing worse than going out drinking, and then heading to a smelly eatery that makes you want to upchuck on site.

*Sigh* I've realized I'm sorely misguded at my attempts to conquer the taco truck maps of Los Angeles. Why did I think I'd been here before? No, silly Westside gringa, you were in North Hollywood last time. Echo Park and North Hollywood, NOT the same thing. (Who knew?)

I must say I was an eensy bit disappointed that I wasn't at that last truck, as it had one of my top five tortas of all time, and this truck and NONE. Newp, nada, not a torta in site. But as they say, when you're served with tacos, make taco-ade? Or maybe that's just the Orange Bang. Whatever.  So due to William S's kindness, I was served up one muy caliente asada taco, topped with all the goods and some "is it hot in here or are my gums just melting off" salsa roja. Deeelicioso!

Even better was my mini bite of the cabeza, which thank goodness did NOT mean head as in brains, but head as in cheek. And looks like one little moo moo did some mighty chompin cause that sucker was mighty tender to say the least.

A repeat visit is surely in order to find out all about this infamous suadera, as well as the horchata that I hear is pretty damn amazing. That of course, is next time I make it to Echo Park at 2am. Yes, Echo Park. I know where that is.

Normally if I'm getting food from a taco truck, it will be in the wee hours of the night (or morning, however you take it) and probably under some sort of hypnotizing, post-alki hunger. With that being said, I'm sure this review would be a 4 star. This time around, we were actually hanging out at a spot nearby. We weren't full from the food from that one joint because the portions there were hella small so we decided to hit up the Taco Zone Truck. It was a Saturday night, almost 1 AM. Pretty packed.

All night my friend kept saying "Suadero quesadilla." Wait, their "Suadero quesadilla" is legit. They have the best quesadilla, the "Suadero quesadilla." Hey, are we going to get the "Suadero quesadilla?" I swore I heard it about 10x.

Since I wasn't too too hungry, I just opted for the chicken taco. It wasn't that bad. I finally got to taste the Suadero quesadilla which was in fact pretty legit. I don't know if it's the best I have ever tried but I will give them credit.

My experience with the Taco Zone Truck was pretty good because of the follwing:
- your order comes out fast
- cheap
- good for the after party grub
- all the condiments are laid out for you at your own discretion to grab (you don't feel like a pig asking for this sauce/that sauce, jalapenos, etc).
- plenty of parking (Von's market parking lot)
- and that one cutie in the black dress with the glasses

BTW, there's no chairs or anything so be prepared to take it home, eat while standing, or just sit in someone's trunk. You don't want to stink up the inside of their ride now not unless they don't care about the G ride.

Taco Zone, you'ze my only friend. My personal favorite taco truck. When I lived in Echo Park, Taco Ariza's  was a short walk from my apartment, and still I usually made the extra trek to this gem right outside the Vons parking lot. I usually get either Carnitas or Al Pastor, or some combination of the two. Both incredibly delicious, either in taco or burrito form. The ladies who run this truck are very nice and even reminded me not to forget the salsa one time. And you do not want to forget the salsa. The salsa bar here really sets it apart from all other trucks and stands I've visited. The cucumber's and cabbage, the pico de gallo, and many many different options, you can just pile it on and make like a weird taco/salad hybrid, it's amazing, and best enjoyed with cheap Mexican beer. The only downside is that it's not open untill 9ishPM.

After the CD Swap event, the gang decided to rendezvous here...however, due to a wrong turn in the directions, I ended up showing up 30 minutes later. So after driving around West Hollywood/Hollywood/Silverlake/Echo Park and perhaps a few other cities along the way in the wee hours of the morning, the million dollar question is: Was the food worth it???

Well, my friends, the answer to that question is YES. Despite the fact I was really craving Kogi (don't hate) I was told that these were some seriously awesome tacos....so what did I order? A burrito. I know, go figure.

For $4.50, I got a pollo (that's chicken for you gringos) burrito, "with everything" (rice, beans, salsa). There's a makeshift salsa bar outside of the truck with various spicy condiments for your savory pleasure.

I wolfed that burrito down in approximately 3 minutes...I guess I didn't realize how hungry I was....or how delicious it was. The pinto beans, rice, and chicken were all magnificently melded together with the spiciness of the homemade salsa, which had quite a kick to it. Mmmm mmmm gooood. I wish I had sprung for the horchata though, I needed something to cool my mouth down from the extra salsa I poured on.

I have to say, I'm not a fan of late night eating, but that burrito wasn't greasy or heavy like what you would expect someone to eat after a night of drinking and dancing.

There was quite a crowd around this little truck, so you know it had to be good. Perhaps next time I get lost in that area, I'll find my way back to this truck...

It's okay really.  i don't know if i was just engorged with food like the michelin man but i think that the carnitas are bland.  this is fine for people afraid to go into east la but honestly, i wasn't feeling it.  also, i hate you the enabler.

ps:  there is a wells fargo atm in the Vons right next to this truck.

First of all, well lit area. A plus

Second of all, parked next to a large parking lot. A double plus

Third, good (I mean really good) horchata. Plus a few more.

And fourthly, some kick ass, mouth watering, lip smacking, finger licking taco meat. Plus a million.

The lengua was good, the cabeza was excellent.  The serve it yourself salsa/condiment bar was filled with spicy goodness and I scarfed it down in O.4 seconds.

I only had to wait 1 minute (Seriously) for my food, the workers were quick and friendly and, hot damn, there were even some chairs.
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

Taco Zone is the place to be. I been coming to this taco truck for the past 8 months and I haven't regreted coming ever since (well actually only once, when I came and they were closed) I always come here and order at least 3 tacos and one chicken quesadilla. (Try the quesadilla. TRUST!!) Call me a fatass if you want but I'm telling you once you had one of these your'll seriously know what I'm taking about!!

Taco Zone is no joke. Consistently great tacos & burritos at ridiculously low prices. Their suadero is fantastic, but so is everything else they serve. Go check it out - you'll become a loyal customer.

Where would I be without Taco Zone? On how many drunken nights would liters of beer and whiskey have waited longingly in my stomach for something, anything to soak them up -- for delicious meat and perfectly grilled tortillas that would never come.

Nigh on 2 years ago, I came to Los Angeles from the mecca of Mexican food. I came from a place where the people swim in rivers of frozen margaritas, where cups runneth over with molten queso, where reputations are made on the backs of big-as-yo'-face burritos, and broken by little, unassuming orange peppers. I loved it deeply, and I dreamed the impossible dream -- that LA would live up to my great Mexpectations (too much?).

And yet, at every turn I was foiled by bland, flavorless Mexican food. It was a crime almost less forgivable than outright badness, it was all just ... average. Where was the soul, the passion, the FIRE? Where was the Mexican restaurant that could sate my hunger? Well, I still haven't found it, but Taco Zone gives me hope that such a holy grail exists within this city.

There are a million taco trucks in this city, but none that I've tried stands up to the Zone. Folks seem to agree, cause there's almost always a crowd. It's not that things are done much differently here; it's just that they're done better and with a care that's obvious in each bite. Well, that and the suadero. Good lord, the suadero. I've gathered that suadero comes from roughly around the ribs of the cow, but the specifics outside of that elude me, except for this one: it's freaking delicious.

You can order all of the standard fare here - asada, carnitas, brisket, or even tripe and lengua if you're into that sort of thing - without reservations, and they do a nice job with the quesadillas and burritos. My personal recommendation, however, is this: a handful of suadero tacos, with cheese. They will be served on top of two lightly grilled corn tortillas, with just enough cheese under the meat, not on top, which keeps the whole thing structurally sound. Pile on some onions and cilantro and head for the salsas. The rojas has a nice kick, though it's not as strong as the verde, but the real prize is the milder tomatillo-avacado amalgam. Apply the sauces as you see fit, take a few bites, and, as you savor them, try to imagine a world without Taco Zone. You'll realize very quickly that you don't want to live in that world. Fortunately for you and me, we don't have to.

This van is DA Bomb!
Try the Brisket Quesadilla (my fav) or really anything on the menu, it's all good! Chat with an assortment of peoples while waiting for your yumminess to arrive. Eat on the spot, in your car or whiz home supplies to hungry peoples.

Four words: Suadero, oh my gawd.

The guacsalsamole is wonderous even when standing in the rain under a tarp attached to a garbage can on a chain link fence. Also, people who complain about not having napkins at a taco truck should probably wear pants and stop being babies. This place was the most fantastical end to a cheap date.....and I would go again and again, and that's not just multiple cans of bud light talking, I promise.

Sooooo overrated. I am annoyed with anyone who gave this joint more than three stars because I wasted my time, money, and calorie allotment here. I felt like i was chomping on unrecognizable-meat-flavored acrylic lint. I got three different tacos: asada, chorizos, carnitas. They all looked the same. They all tasted the same. They all had the same texture. And as another reviewer mentioned, there were no napkins. Forreal, that is inexcusable if you're eating shit with your hands.

Update: I was informed that they *do* indeed have napkins-- they're tucked away behind the tip jar. Huh. How convenient. :)

I don't understand how a truck that sells tacos for little over a dollar could possibly be "overrated" (please see Cindy M. and Cindy H's review.) I mean could your expectations really be that high? The tacos are coming out of a truck in a parking lot in front of a Vons. With that said I was impressed by the wide variety of beef. I didn't even know you could eat cow head!  All in all a place this cheap that serves beef and doesn't make your insides come out can't really be so bad, can it?
P.S. Taco Zone makes Burrito King look like a jester.
