Chips and Salsa are great....just don't fill yourself up too much and you won't be able to finish your dinner. Their portions are pretty big. I shared the veggie enchiladas with a friend and we still didn't finish it. They were very tasty and cheesy. We also, had a taste of their tortilla soup and it had a smokey flavoring.

My b-friend had a seafood dish and he didn't really like it much. His brother had flautas and he enjoyed them immensely.

I'll be back.

Word of advice, don't sit by the windows: CO2 + roaring platoon of Harley's = Unfun. Happy hour and complimentary chips & salsa is everyone's bestfriend.

P.S. Very cute waitresses. Oh brunettes...

I'm a big fan of Taco Surf, but this location, for some reason has never worked for me.  The tacos always come out extra greasy, and you never see any of the servers after the food comes.  Bummer!

By the way, I wrote this review after SEVERAL attempts.  I frequent the Long Beach locations (2nd Street).....see review.

This place is amazing! I thought it was the same one in San Diego but wasn't but I was still satisfied. You can't beat their happy hour with $1 tacos in so many different flavors. I highly recommended their shredded beef or chicken tacos. Right when you get in too they bring you a big basket of chips and salsa which usually has me full before I even get my food. My favorite place to go during lunch breaks and if you're in the area you should def check it out :)

What kinda mexican place has the tap break down during taco tuesday? WTF.  The beers are $3 and the tacos are $1.  Cool. But, $3 for a bottled beer ain't all that in my book.  Maybe all these yelp events are spoiling me... ?

Their $1 tacos are a good deal.  You can get steak, chicken, carnitas, beef, grilled fish, or baja style fish tacos.  I mean, they are TACO surf, so I guess that's on point that they actually have a good selection of tacos.

The food was pretty good.  They have a habenero hot sauce that I got kinda crazy with and honestly, the fish and carnitas tasted the same to me.  Hot.  But in a good burning way.

Parking sucks.  Service Sucks.  I asked for water about 3 times (between beers, of course) and finally gave in and went to the bar and got some.  Waitress was lagging.  All and all a pretty decent spot for taco tuesday - but probably better in the off season when it's not so crowded.

Love this place. Good food complete with good margaritas, and of course good live music. I'd soooo go here then lets say an el torito chain gang.

Been here a few times, when I can spare some time to head down there that is, and I've always had a good time.

The only thing I might say would be the pits is you have a 50/50 chance of getting a nice waitress. Sometimes she's the sweetest thing and you'll wanna order drinks from her all night, and then there are some that make you wanna throw your plate of taquitos at her face. But dont let that drive you away from going there...

Their #3 (2 taco plate) is a favorite of mine, either chicken, carne asada, or carnitas... it's all good. Complete with a margarita, Corona, or one of the drink specials.

Oh and the customers are pretty fun if you're a social group person too!

Don't be mislead the pic with the red car in front is in fact another Taco Surf location and not this one.  Who ever posted that pic meant it for another location. It's off PCH and there is no tree in front. It is seriously across the street from Don the Beachcomber. So, the bf and I came here recently after several really good Mai Tai's at Don the Beachcomber. We were sort of on a little walking tour... Taco Surf is a cute place. I didn't know what to expect when we =were walking into this shack looking like thing.  To my surprise there were no bro's or bro-ho's. I guess they had just finished with their live band Thank God because I may of been bummed had there of been loud music inside the restaurant.

We sat at the bar. The manager whipped up our drinks. Honestly, she was nice but she really couldn't make a good Mai Tai.  So, Jake (amazing bartender) whipped up something tasty. I was in a fruity sort of cocktail mood that day so he made me a Cadillac Margarita. I honesty can not remember a time when I sat at a bar and ordered a margarita. It was good. I only had one. NOW... The food. We ordered the 3 tacos deal (under $7). We split the chicken, baja fish and veggie taco. The taco's are huge and good. EXCEPT. I was not a fan of the fish taco. Too much batter and I just was not into it. The veggie taco was hmm good. And trust me split these tacos. They are HUGE.

Prices are cheap. So, yeah.. I like this place and it's perfect if you are spending the day on the beach and want some fast and easy and cheap food.... I'm coming back for sure!

I guess I came on the wrong day. I asked the waitress for food suggestion, and I should not have taken it. Service wasn't that good either. Also, I don't like how there's no privacy. It's wide open to the next table like literally 2 feet away. I am gonna give this place an extra star though for their live music. Their live music just gives the place a better experience (even though mine was bad). I probably will come back here though just to give it another chance... most probably on Tuesday for the special. Hopefully the update will be better.

Taco Surf - hilariously fun.

I was wicked skeptical when friends suggested we meet them here.  "Really?!" I asked.  "You want me to come here to see a band at 5:30 on a Saturday?"  But, always up for whatever life throws, I threw on my winter beachy togs and headed up to Sunset.

First of all (unrelated), how cool is the gigantic water tower house?  That's gotta be the best views in the area.  Related - Taco Surf is right by there, on PCH.  Parking at the place is an absolute bear, and after watching the cars careening close to valets, who had no issue driving with doors open toward aforementioned careening cars, I don't think I'd valet.  We found street parking behind.  Walk a few blocks - it's not gonna' kill you.

Inside, the decor is literal assault on the senses.  Loud music, louder decorations, louder still attire on some of the patrons.  But the service and the people watching were great, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Word to the wise - skip the nachos - the chicken on them was great, but they were soggy in 15 seconds and smothered with cheese.  Chips and salsa were A-OK, people watching was prime.

Good time with good friends.  It's an experience.

The food is amazing and tasty!  By far my favorite restaurant to eat at when I'm really hungry.  The chips and salsa are great too.  Although not a great selection of beers.  Also, more than half of the time, I have a horrible waiter.  The main issue is the time.  My fiance and I go here very often and almost always are waiting a very long time to be tended to or brought drinks.  Of course I understand when it is busy, but we mostly go when it's slow and still get horrible service.  The main thing that keeps me coming here is the delicious food.

This is a great place to spend a lazy afternoon.  The salsa is good, the tacos are pretty solid and reasonably priced, and the music is always fantastic.

The seating is a little uncomfortable, parking isn't great, and the noise level can get a bit high at times, but it's a good place to chill and snack overall.

Every time I walk into place I think about how cool California was before the developers moved in (and the bros followed). You can be forgiven if, after you first drink, you begin to lose track of what decade it is - and at this place this is a good thing.

Most amazingly, the bro quotent here is minimal, which is cool considering its proximity to downtown. Maybe they don't go past Warner? Naw, I see them at all the sushi joints in Sunset. Maybe they can't fit their huge trucks in the little parking lot at Taco Surf.

The food here is pretty good. The burritos are quite good, and their happy hour is a killer deal. The breakfasts are huge. When I need a hangover cure I order the machaca, and eat it for breakfast and dinner. Mmm.

There is a Taco Surf down the street from my work...

There is a Taco Surf close to my home...

But for some reason, I just love coming to the Sunset Beach location. Its so chill and fun. I've been reading about the Happy Hour for the past 10 minutes or so... making me want a marg prettaaay bad. And its noon... is that bad?

Fish anything is great here.. as is the chips and salsa, which I personally think is a big part of the meal. If your chips and salsa isn't good... your food sure as hell better be.

One thing... Taco Surf tends to have a heavy hand when it comes to the salt. Lay off, guys! Cept if its on a marg...

This is the second Taco Surf location I've visited and I prefer the atmosphere of the other one, while I think the food here was a bit better.

Came for $1 Taco Tuesday. Can't get any better than that! They're very small tacos made with two small corn tortillas each, filled with your choice of meat, cilantro, onion, and salsa verde. I think I would leave off the sauce next time, it didn't add much to the taste. The carnitas was well seasoned but very greasy, the chicken was a tad dry, but the carne asada was quite good. Nice and filling meal for two for $17, and with two alcoholic drinks. Salsa and guacamole were really good here too.

Service was impeccable and very nice, although they're pretty strict about when happy hour starts. Not even one minute early!

This is the best restaurant you will ever go to. ever.

No seriously, just give up looking for other places.

This will fulfill your greatest dreams of culinary awesomness.

I'll make my argument - please hold.

1. best happy hour ever [ 2-5 m-f] :
- 1$ tacos [ 1.50 for Ensenada style shrimp, you fancy mofo]
- cheap beer and margaritas [ I can't say how much because I order too many be be sure.. but I want to say 7$ pitchers?]
- full bar. FULL BAR. with good tequila.
- hot waitresses... and I'm a chick... and being honest.
- the BEST chips and salsa this side of the border, and I'm picky.

2. besides happy hour, they have reasonable prices.

3. they serve a variety of dishes, from fish salads [for those who sink their surfboards], to burritos "dos manos" [for you  guys that need a 1500 calorie meal]. They have soup, quesadillas, veggie dishes, healthy rice, not healthy rice... several sizes and styles of tacos and burritos...

4. they have live bands on weekends, they're stumbling distance from the beach and Katin surf shop [for those days when you've had too many pitchers of margaritas and need to kill some time]...

5. they have free lollypops at the bar

but seriously, friendly staff, fantastic food....

this is my favorite restaurant ever.

The thing about Taco Surf is that although these franchises (I think there's 4) all look like a beach-hut taco joint, each location has a different personality to it.  In Seal Beach, its more like a family place.  In Belmont Shore, its a mid-day feel, because it has a street-side patio.  In Sunset Beach -- it has a restaraunt feel, but also a sportsbar vibe (albeit, no large screens).  The Sunset Beach location used to have live music on Wednesdays.
My menu recommendation is the Ensenada Shrimp tacos.  One night I ate 4 of these, and I don't play rugby.  Hunt over the menu to find this; oh, and they can also make burritos Ensenada style.

After a long day at the Huntington Dog beach we headed over here to grab some early dinner.

I like the location, and since it wasn't happy hour parking wasn't a problem.

I really liked the salsa and chips, the salsa was quite delicious, not too spicy but a lot of flavor, I also kept adding the Habanero sauce that was at the table.

I ordered one of the numbers, 9 I think it was. The two Ranchero enchiladas, and they were HELLA good. I really like the beans and rice too, but excellent. I would come back after a long day at the beach.

A cousin of mine once told me in one of his emo harbinger-of-doom moods that the only thing in this life that is guaranteed is misery, so when something good happens, as small as it may be, enjoy it.

I kept that in mind as I ate some really not-so-great fish tacos here this past weekend. Now I've been here before and I've been to the one on 2nd and I never remember such mediocre food...the fried fish was obviously cooked earlier and was dropped back into the hot oil to re-heat which made it one large piece of batter...just a lot of corners being cut that day.

Granted, it was a really nice day so the place was packed with West Coast Chopper-type bikers and beach-goers alike...they were pretty busy, so I'll cut em some slack. Shoots, I had just done a little surf fishing at Bolsa Chica myself, so I was feeling particularly festive and happy.

The next misery bomb they dropped was that they no longer had Newcastle, but at least they had Negro Modelo, which to me is the next best thing, and yes, they carry Costa Rica's finest cerveza, Imperial...pura vida.

So here I was taking stock of the situation: shitty fish tacos, no Newcastle...a special sort of misery. But hey, it was a beautiful day and I had an ice cold Negro in hand AND I just did some fishing...is life (and this place) really all that bad? Methinks, no way...I'll be back!

Embrace the small pleasantries!

Met some friends here for a surprise birthday party.

Started off with pitchers of Patron Margaritas.  I would normally call this a waste of alcohol but I am not sure there was much in there. I could barely taste anything, totally not worth the $30 for the pitcher.

I had a shrimp taco and carne asada quesadilla.  The shrimp was painfully overcooked and bland.  The quesadilla was fine, but the guacamole it came with was starting to brown and lacked any semblance of flavor.

Bland food and weak drinks do not make for a good restaurant in my book

I miss this place!
I moved to portland over a year ago and think about the baja fish tacos...the baja sauce [which most of my friends would agree is the best baja sauce], the grilled fish tacos, the salsa piled high on chips... and having a margarita [this one has a full bar- so I order the patron silver] or cheap beer with friends at this particular taco surf in sunset beach. And prices are the way it should be. The happy hour prices are even better.
Then go walk it off - down to the pier and back.
I go here every time i'm in town. mmm.
i take one star off for
one thing though - the cover bands and the music here are something that might be playing at an oc sweet sixteen party or at desperate house wives private pool party. i try to ignore it - but sometimes its can't take it.

Ditto about the Imperial....brings me back to Costa Rica which is great! Taco Surf is just the perfect after surfing on a Sunday food spot. I usually get the same thing everytime...2 shredded beef tacos with rice and beans and my husband and I share a pitcher of margaritas. Food is always good and I LOVE their margaritas (nice and STROOOONGGG!!!). There's always a funny crowd to watch as well.

On weekend nights it can get seriously crowded and you can expect to wait an hour or more. So go early or be prepared to wait a long time.

Oh and the place is decorated in a surf shack motif....completely casual and laid back. So feel free to walk in with your flip flops and bathing suit under your clothes.

Then go to Turc's for the real funniness!!

I came here on gorgeous sunny summer Sunday around two and it was really busy. We were able to get seated right away however and the service was on key. I had a Carne Asada taco and a Carnitas taco a la carte and both were delicious. The asada had a mellow smokey flavor and was quite tender and the carnitas had the best flavor and almost melted in your mouth. The chips and salsa were great and so was my ice cold Coors light on tap. There were large groups of people drinking bloody marys and margaritas and they both looked awesome. I will undoubtedly be back to try one of those baja fish tacos everyone is talking about as well as a Margarita!

Been going here for lunch the past couple months. I'm a big fan of the fish tacos and fish burrito. It is fairly inexpensive, two tacos for around $5 and burritos are $7ish. It hasn't ever been busy when we go in around 12 on a week day. My only complaint is that the service isn't anything to write home about. Takes a while to get refills, more chips, and the check.

I have eaten at the one in Huntington Beach and the one in Long Beach.  Both are amazing.  But the one in Huntington Beach is bigger, with more places to sit.   The food is great and affordable.  You feel like your in an old surfer shack.  A traditional beach city experience.  Make sure you try their breakfast burritos and their carne asade.

I have been to Taco surf a myriad of times. Each and every time ordering different foods.Parking can be a hassle, although you can find a spot in the back where there is parking spots for the beach pilgrims, which i strongly recommend that on a balmy day you come bikini clad,or clothed with a beachy slant. After dipping your toes in the sand and possibly jumping in the sea make your hike to taco surf.Hungry and thirsty  from a busy day, your energy  levels  need be  replinished by a nice cold mexican beer or margaritas.I suggest the Carne Asada taco with a Corona.Service is basic, order your food, cook makes food, you wait while eating chips and salsa (recommend the green salsa),server brings food, get your drinks refilled, and carry on....Just a Run of the mill restaruant for an ordinary day.Mabey i'm looking for the midget mariachis',and the authenic mexican lady tortilla maker.

You've all been to a Taco Surf before so you know the drill--they've got tacos. (and other Mexican food too) But there are 3 reasons I'm Yelping about this place: #1--Baja Fish Tacos, namely the baja  sauce. It's deelish. #2--Happy Hour. They've got a pretty great HH from 2-5pm. (I think) It was perfect for hitting up in between classes @ CSULB (but I recommend going to the one on 2nd St if you wanna make it back to class on time.) $1 tacos and $1 beers. Viva!  #3--this particular Taco Surf is the only one in the immediate area that has a FULL BAR. Yes my alcoholic Yelpers, FULL BAR. Go there. Meet me. Do it now. (ok, it's 10:24am so maybe not now...but soon)

Great place if you are looking for something along side of Wahoo's or Rubio's fish tacos.  Their wet burritos and fish tacos are great.  The service is a little slow, but it can be forgiven in the laid back atmosphere in there.
