Milpitas, CA

The burrito I had here was decent though nothing special. It was huge even though I got mine without rice. I ordered the carnitas and asked for it extra spicy. They were kind of hesitant to add the hot sauce I was asking for until my companion told them in Spanish that it was okay.
The beans were watery because they actually add water to them before they put them on your burrito. I'm not sure why that was but I will still be coming here for lunch in the future just to avoid eating at the same places every day.

Taco Del Mar has the best "mondo" burritos...Only when the chick is working that is.
I went to one in Portland Oregon a few months back and i LOVED the burrito i got there. So i came back home and had to find one!
The first few times i went to this one on Mowry the girl was working, i ordered the seasoned pork mondo burrito. She stuffed it full of meat and all the other good stuff. i always take my burritos to go and they do pretty well. ( they dint get soggy) but that could be because i dint get any beans.
Anyways, i went there about a month ago and there was a man working there, he did NOT know what he was doing!! MONDO- Means extra meat. Well i ordered that, and he barely put any meat on the damn burrito. So i asked him " Can you put another scoop on there" and he said back.." no, i won't be able to wrap the burrito". Well I'm sorry, that's your job buddy. He skimps you on everything..so be careful.
I have only eaten the burritos there, nothing else looks that appetizing... And lately the place isn't even open that late, and they re closed on Sundays.
So I was driving back from Eville with a co-worker, and we were feeling beyond peckish. We decided to hit the Taco Del Mar around 1:20 or so, and the place was pleasantly deserted. I ordered my usual: the vegetarian burrito on a tomato tortilla, complete with guacamole, black beans, rice, cheese, pico, and sauce. All of the finer pleasure in life. Aside from the fact that my tortilla was slightly overcripsed in places, I was thrilled. I inhaled that thing like it was my last meal.
My co-worker, on the other hand, found that one of the tacos she had ordered wasn't to her liking. (Something about a stale shell?) So she decided to take the items back to the counter and return them. (No comment here, although I'd like to). The emp. working was a doll--he disposed of her tacos and stuffed some new soft tacos for her with mounds of pico and lettuce. I thanked him when we left, because he definitely went above and beyond for us.
In short, part of me misses the one in Almaden Plaza (I heart the former Togo's space), but this one's definitely a close second.
I was actually pretty stoked walking out of this place. Clean, good food, service was good, ect... Feels like a mixture of pizza my heart and chipotle. Like the previous poster said, I had "the girl" make my burrito (no I haven't tried anything else though...). Pretty damn good. I liked it wayyyy better than Chipotle, and it was cheaper, too! Also they had rice water (or whatever you call it, mexican drink) and watermelon drink, which brought more of that authentic mexican flavor to it. Tables were clean, but no-one was in there (late afternoon) other than me and the "girl." Anyway, good food, bad location. Hate that parking lot, but otherwise, I'll def. be back. I think what others said was a bit harsh. I was stoked...

I had come here perhaps last year, before I was a Yelper. For some reason, I thought the menu had been bigger, with some shrimp options. But I could be mixing that up with another eatery. It also seems that the ownership or management has changed hands from the last time I visited; only time will tell if this has helped or harmed Taco Del Mar. While it could be bit cleaner (some of the tables looked like they needed a wipedown), and perhaps some of the flavors could have better depth, I felt my fish tacos (in a crispy taco shell) had fresh pico de gallo. The three tacos made for a pretty good lunch. Not for anyone seeking authentic south-of-the-border fare, but just fine for a quick bite.

Poor food. Poor location. The fish burrito was bad. I feel bad because this is a small family run franchise. and the guy who owns it is really trying hard and is really friendly. But there are just so many better choices. I think the main reason this place is still in business is that many high schoolers eat here at lunch every day. It's too bad - it's like the singers on American Idol. Some people were just not meant to run a restaurant, no matter how hard they try. This guy is one of them.

i ordered a super chicken burrito combo tonight but there wasn't anything super about it. The the guy behind the counter didn't seem to know what he was doing and burrito was average. I've driven by many times and never seem to see anyone inside which I've always found odd (like, how do they stay in business??). One of the other reviews mentioned that perhaps it's a popular spot w/the students @ nearby Washington High, so maybe that's how they manage to stay open. I want to support the small local eateries, but probably won't be visiting here again since I was underwhelmed by the food (and I wasn't expecting much anyways).
Great decor inside, but yeah, not so great food. We've had the fish tacos here twice, and I don't know why. Because they have to go get the fish from somewhere mysterious in back and bring it out. Then the whole assembly process just looks painful for them. Cooking should be more fun than this.

Don't expect to get yummy dollar tacos or huge super burritos. I was going order fish tacos, but the lady said it would take 5 to 10 minutes (I can't remember why???). So I ended up getting two tacos and had wished I'd gone to Taco Bell.
WOn't go here again!
I never really noticed this restaurant chain until my office got coupons from them. I saw them sitting on our fax cabinet and thought, "Hey.. I AM kinda craving Mexican food.. Why not?" The food looked so tasty on the coupon so I was kinda excited while I was looking for this place.
First of all, it's stuck across the street from the Valero gas station.. in the little complex where Play It Again Sports & Subway are.. so that means, bad parking. VERY small parking lot.
Upon entering, the interior was much more nicer than I would've expected. So I ordered a taco salad. I watched the girl pile on the fixins' & when she asked me what kind of beans I wanted I opted for the black beans 'cos the pintos were looking pretty dry.
I ordered to-go because I didn't feel like eating in. My house is about 10 minutes from here and once I got home, I realized the food didn't travel well. The food tortilla shell was pretty soggy at the bottom.. The first bite was very good, but by the next few bites I was feeling pretty uneasy. It wasn't rotten or anything, but the taste was unbearable.. Salty, no flavor, too much salsa.. Just too many negative things going on. Bleh..
Now I know why they were giving out coupons.. Lack of customers. -=\

This place has really good burritos. We have open-campus at WHS, so a lot of kids walk there to eat lunch, since it's pretty close by. Good choice for a quick Mexican lunch. Not too expensive either.
I thought the service could have been a little quicker and a little more organized though.
