I came back here for my Dad's Birthday recently and have to say it was just as amazing as ever we came with a crowd of about 10 heads and my pops being the genius that he is lol j/k figured he didn't need to make reservations for 10 people on a Saturday night lol yea good going dad. So initially when we got there they told us that it would be about an hour wait. But after some schmoozing we got our table in under 30 minutes. Keep in mind they were totally packed and we had no reservations so i would consider that pretty gosh darn good.
So on to the food we ended up getting all the usuals Hummus baba ghanoush shepherds salad fried calf livers also some king fish etc etc all i can say is G_d Damn this freaking place is awesome I love it love it love it. Now keep in mind i regularly come to this amazing Turkish spot in the heart of south Brooklyn all the way from Manalapan NJ which is no less than an hours drive on a good day each way so that is a testament to how amazing this place is. I just wish they had more places like this around NY and more importantly NJ.
Also another update came here with my Lil brother hes 17 lol for lunch one day while doing some food shopping in Brighton Beach and ordered a shepherds salad and an order of the whole grilled trout and 2 Turkish sodas and the entire bill came out to a little over 20 bucks and we left there stuffed to the gills and the trout was amazing nicely charred crispy slightly salty skin and wonderfully tender juicy and flaky meat on the inside and of course the salad was amazing as usual even though it was unnecessary because the fish came with its own salad dressed in a wonderful lemon vinaigrette and we left with enough leftovers for dinner for both of us later on in the night. SOOOOOO...... all in all this place rocks and is definitely my top top number one Turkish place in the tri-state area

Wow ate here today for the first time in maybe 10 years. Yes i know crazy time off. I have to say i… Read more »
My husband and I recently got back from a long trip to Turkey and had the worst craving for Turkish food. We've had trouble in the past finding a great Turkish restaurant to go to repeatedly, but I think we finally found a place that we can be regulars at.
Everything we had was really great-- the Iskendar was particularly exceptional. Everything was fresh, was flavored really well (but I do agree that at times they are a little heavy on the salt, like the shepard's salad).
I can't say much for the ambience-- we dined on the right side of the restaurant where the lights were bright, the walls were mirrored, and the floors were... carpeted. Service was fast and courteous.
We'll definitely be back for the great food.
This place was so delicious!
The tabouli was exquisite, garlicy and lemony. Parsley was chopped very fine and it wasn't too oily. I would some time like to order 16 orders of tabouli and just knock myself out. It was awesome.
I also had the chicken kebab, which was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and came with these delicious raw onions that were seasoned with paprika ( I think), a delicious pepper, and a whole grilled roma tomato. The pita bread that came with it was kinda lousy, but the part that soaked up the juice from the chicken and vegetables was tasty.
My dining partner had the stuffed grape leaves, which were pretty good. I personally like a more vinegary taste, but these were tasty. She also had the Doner. I normally would never order lamb, I have some sort of adversion to cute animals, but this was so good that I'll put my morals aside and order it the next time I go. And I'll bring another unsuspecting dining partner to share the Doner with. The portions are so big that there's no way I could finish it by myself. Especially after all the tabouli I'll consume before the Doner even gets there.....
Wow! This place is amazing! I went to Turkey a few years ago and this food was exactly like taking a trip back there. I feel lucky to have found this place...which was completely by accident. I was looking for another restaurant, couldn't find it, drove by this one, and said...yup...let's try it. What luck!! There were 4 of us and we all loved it!!! Too delicious! Make sure you finish your meal off with the special heated dessert. It was AMAZING!!! Can't wait to get back there.
My dad just called me to say that he is in Brooklyn and will be picking me up some Taci Beyti to make my day THAT much better.
I only venture out to Brooklyn once every so often to visit family & friends but when I do, I make sure to visit Taci's! My favorite is the cigars with feta cheese. This place is always packed with people but I don't think you can make reservations unless it's a big party. The food is incredible and beats Sahara (a few blocks away) in regards to food.
If you're looking for ambiance, this is not the place for you. It has florescent lighting.... yes, I'm serious. When you walk through the door, many will stare at you, some of which will recognize you.
Go for the food, everything on the menu is amazing.
P.S. Everyone pronounces "Taci's Beyti" something different so you're not the only one.
We made it here for dinner just in time because 5 minutes after we sat down this place was 100% full and no one was moving.
Very good Turkish food with very good prices and variety. Only drawback was that the food was very salty. I guess that's why the waiter will drop off a pitcher of water.
Appetizer we had the hummus which was tasted different from most Turkish hummus but very good epically with the bread it comes with. In addition we also had the Turkish salad with cheese. It seemed that every customer in this place was ordering the salad and when I first tasted it I know why. The salad consisted of cucumber, tomato and their dressing. Very simple but tasty.
Dinner: I had the Turkish dish that is baked (I forgot the name) inside of it was lamb and Turkish sausage, topped with cheese. Almost like pizza. My gf had the lamb which was freshly cut and served with a side of onions and tomato's.
Overall I would love to come back again.
this place has been around for ever because they know how to make great kebabs. you also know the food is good when you see lots of russians dining in a turkish place. the main dining room is not very appealing though. the flourescent lighting is blinding, even brighter than dining in a fedex kinkos. better to eat at the next door annex where they have incandescent lighting.
for the most part the appetizers are just ok. the ezme salad good. i would just pass on all the other appetizers nothing special. just go for the the kababs. avoid the lamb chop kabab which i find disappointingly flavorless and slightly tough.
stick to the gyro which is good, but a little greasy. the ground lamb skewer is excellent. the lamb cubes kabab is excellent very tender. the turkish coffee is great, just the way i like it. the turkish bread is on key.
you can eat better elsewhere but overall you simply can not beat the value here. you get tons of delicious food and you'd get about half as much food in manhattan and pay twice as much. its a tight call but i prefer sahara down the road.
They're usually packed at nights. Especially on the weekends.
BUT! It's safe to say they serve the best Turkish food. No stretch.
My favorite entree is the shrimp sautee. It's awesome.
This place is HAUUUUUUUUUUUSOME!
I always get the same thing: Lamb saute, turkish pizzas, cucumber, tomato salad with no cheese, mixed grill, rice, and chicken shish kebab. I don't know what they dust those onions with that come with the pizza but I pretty much put them on top of everything! EVERYTHING! Except the baklava! I have no idea where they get it but its sooo sticky and delicious! SO GOOD! I want to go there right now after thinking about it!
I just love how the food tastes so home cooked! I also have a huge crush on the brunette waitress with short hair, mischievous dark eyes, and a lovely smile!
A long-standing argument among my friends and I: the best Turkish in Sheepshead (okay, I know, it's technically a block north of Sheepshead). Though I hang my hat at the sultan of all kabobs, I also give in to my buddies and praise Tacis Beyti for pulling off a few things that you just don't see at Sahara.
One is a better adana kabob. The other is this crazy Turkish "pizza" sort of concoction which is just so ridiculously good that I'm not going to try to describe it to you here. That alone warrants a visit. Other items are definitely good too, but hey, I have my allegiances.
New York is world renowned for its food, and it is places like this that keep the reputation up. There are other excellent Turkish places in the area, but Tacis Beyti is the gold standard. I've been to Istanbul, and although I ate well there, the food was as if it were a cheap imitation of the lavish plates of pide, kebabs, and colorful salads sitting right here on dirty ole' Coney Island Avenue. The lights are bright, but there is nothing to hide here - the food looks delicious, even in the glare of unforgiving fluorescent bulbs.
This place has great food. The layout of the restaurant is a little weird, and they could improve the ambience by toning down the bright lights (at least in the evening) but the food makes up for it all.
I've tried many different dishes here, and they're all great.
I love this place. The best kebabs in New York! Undeniable! And who says the best comes expensive?! Taci proves that wrong.
Only reason I am not giving a 5 star rating is because the service is not so good. They are not very attentive.
This place is amazing, great waitstaff that come right away and sit you among this being one of the busiest places I've seen.
The food is great, just want you want out a great Turkish Restaurant. The portions are huge! Make sure you order the shepherd's salad, and choose anything from the dessert menu, believe me you will thank me.
I've gone there with parties of 2 - 20, and I have always been accommodated. This place is a MUST!
My friend Ersin and his family have run this business for a very long time.
I had been here to just chill, but I got the full experience when I went to my friend Ronnie's birthday here and when I did my own birthday dinner here in 2005.
If you want to eat more than you ever did in life for a low price this is the place to do it. The food was NON-stop. They even made special accomodations for my brother who is vegan.
No stone was left unturned. No stomach was left with room to spare.
I highly recommend this place in a group.
Great food and you can bring your own liquor. The price is very good and the portions are great.
Taci's Beyti Turkish Restaurant is famous not just in the Turkish community, but in the Russian community as well. Russian people's love of Turkish food is famous, and this means that Turkish kitchens always flourish in areas with big Russian populations. The restaurant offers the usual staples of Turkish food - the kebabs, wonderful salads, juicy goat meat that melts in your mouth.
The ambience is pretty nice too, especially since the restaurant has been remodeled and cleaned up for a more upscale look. You can easily have a birthday dinner there, or just come in for lunch with a couple friends.
For a small little place with lights so bright, you could check for enlarged pores the food is quite a surprise! Ignore the lack of decor, and bring in a bottle, or order a bottle of Raki, sit back and get ready for a great meal!
We usually start with 3-6 mezes, have a few drinks, ask for a water pitcher and ice bucket though, as other posters have said service is not always the best! My favorite is the shrimp and kassari cheese casserole, the kabob's are always great as is the fish. Don't forget the kunefe for dessert
The harsh lighting is my very least favorite thing about this place- Common Mr. Bek, tone down the lights just a tad, it would make the stains (from knife cutting) on the plates look less noticeable!
The food beats Sahara any day, but Sahara has the ambiance! Wish the two were combined then it would be a 5 stars..
This is a great place to go for a good loud crowded meal, or carry out, not for a romantic date.
I am a big fan of turkish food, and this place is GOOD.
Great portion for those who have stomach like me. Price is cheap. I had the Sherpoad's Salad and Chicken Kebob.
The service is so so though. They always try to take everything off the table, and it is very impersonal.
Not bad. (But I like Sahara better). They have a great turkish salad at Taci's and the veggies are fresh and crisp. Tasty kebabs and reasonable prices. Great for a family meal.
the food here is awesome. i've been here a few times on weekend nights. the place is always almost full but i never have issues getting a table within a few mins.
everything tastes fresh and yummy. my favorites include: tabuli, hummus, shepherd salad, chicken kebab with yogurt (hot yogurt sauce on chicken? somehow it works!), and kusbasili pide.
the prices are affordable, the service is great. the decor is nothing to write home about but who cares? i'm busy stuffing my face =)
i've been coming here for years, but i hadn't been there for a while...decided to take my boyfriend there last week, and i realized i had been away too long...
shepards' salad with feta- simple, but so flvorful...definitely dip the bread in the dressing...
we also ordered the mixed grill and an order of adana kebabs (didn't realize that the mixed grill came with an adana kebab, but whatever). mixed grill was great. the sliced lamb was crispy, the diced kebab was tender, adana kebab spiced well and the lamb chop was sooooooooo good. the one entree was enough, so we took the other adana kebab to go, which was still awesome the next day :)
service, yes it could be better, ambiance non-existent, but when a place in the middle of bumblef*ck brooklyn is PACKED on a tuesday night, you know its gotta be good.
enjoy!
Wow, I ate ate this Turkish Gem this weekend and I was great. It is tucked away in Midwood where unless your great aunt lives (my case)or you are are Orthodox you probably won't find your self. However, if you are driving around in Brooklyn and want some good ethnic eats, definitely check this place out. The table next to us was no joke 40 Russians (we counted) passing around at least 20 bottles of finlandia and cheap congnac (Taci's Beyti is BYOB) and they seemed to be having a GREAT time. We ordered Cigar pastries, tomato and cucumber salad, Cacik, Fried Calves liver in Paprika (soooo good, even if you don't think you like liver try this), fried and stuffed eggplants, chicken kebabs, and Ground lamb kebabs. It was all very reasonable although the service was a little off given the large party next to us. Good find for sure in an interesting area
I think Turkish food is pretty unknown to most people, and that's really unfortunate, because this food is soooo good. Its like a mixture of greek, russian, and israeli. They have things like cucumber and tomato salad, so tasty, Tarama, which is a red caviar spread, and babaghanoush, a smoky eggplant spread. Instead of pita, to smear all these spreads they give you this fluffy white bread, perfect for dipping. Some of my other favorite entrees are the lamb shish kabob with yogurt (chunks of lamb, that are immersed in a white creamy yogurt), the whole trout with a lemon, scallion dressing, which is light but very flavorful, and the karsik pide (stuffed flat bread filled with a dried pastrami, lamb sausage, and melted cheese)....Mmmmm. This place is BYOB..So that means lots of drinking..the tables are big so its great for a groups...And all the dishes can be served family style! What more could you want..
