This has to be my Favorite bookstore ever!

The selection of design and architectural books is incredible for such a tiny bookstore. I love going into this store during my lunch break and just browsing the design/architecture section. It is worth checking out. The prices are more than reasonable. The photography section is also great.

Check this place out for a unique selection of books and great gifts.

Totally awesome thimble sized, ecclectic and functional bookstore. Will I have to tell my children about these places? along with the memories of not having a cell phone or email for the most part of college ( the big bang theory, lawn darts & walking up hill in the snow to and from school??).
I found a great book for my brother. for $19.00. It was normally $50! this book store has deals and inventory in a small space. It felt nice to grab a book that causes the book seller to laugh out loud and  comment "nice, that's my new favorite book".  But then again,  if everyone got an "art book" of mexican wrestler's from their older sister as a gift- there would be no more family conflict or sitcoms about zany sibling rivalry.

Great bookstore, not huge, but cleaner in style, as well as literally, than your average smaller used book store. They have a lot of nice glossy design books, grabbed one as a gift - $20 for a $130 list price.

Very thorough philosophy section, and pretty heavy design section- as to be expected in Providence.

Employees were uber-friendly, and were able to ship my gift direct to its recipient, they looked up USPS media rate and added it to my total on the spot- definitely better than lugging it home and shipping it myself- for the same price!

This is absolutely the best bookstore I have ever been to. I do believe The Strand in New York is a close match in terms of sheer enjoyability and thriftiness, but it's a very different shopping experience. The Strand is grand, but very dusty, vast, sometimes difficult to traverse. Symposium is a tiny and clean store full of new books, most of which are presented at a steep publisher's remainder discount. For the last few months there's been a huge table up front of deeply discounted graphic novels and comic books (Summer Blonde, Concrete, Acme Novelty Archive, etc.) which is full of incredible deals. Some of the books are discounted because of minor damage, but I believe all of them are "new."

For such a small store, there's an incredible condensation of good philosophy, poetry, art, "coffee table," fiction, non-fiction, political and academic books. There's a profusion of $5 paperbacks in immaculate condition. I never leave this store empty-handed; it's the sole reason why my bookshelf fattened up so nicely and quickly since moving to Providence for college.

This bookstore has plenty of new books in well curated sections.  The collection of graphic novels available is also top notch.  Pricewise its a new book store and they do have excellent discounts.  Overall a great place.

What excellent bargins!  I would rather shop here for books than in the mall stores.  The staff is helpful and the prices are good.  I love Art books and this place has a great collection!

I really like Cheap Books and this place has them! I was in Kenmore Square recently and there is now a Symposium there now too!  There is a quirkky collection of stuff.  They sometimes have readings and those are also fun.

What a random bookstore! Definitely catering more to the intellectual crowd (there's not even a fiction section!), I appreciate the assortment. I get the feeling that every book here has been hand selected to be sold here. However, I can't really abide by a bookstore that doesn't sell novels. Nobody's THAT intellectual!

Symposium Books serves downtown Providence with an excellent (if somewhat intimidating) selection of books that offers more in the way of academics than entertainment. Art, philosophy, theology, ethnic and women's studies, film studies, and highbrow fiction titles abound. There is also a growing collection of graphic novels. Best of all, everything is available at heavily discounted prices. A great place to flip pages and feel smug after a cup of coffee at nearby Tazza.
