Everyone already wrote so much that I can just say:
    1. I agree and also had a fantastic experience from her
    2. Sylvia is passionate about her work and it shows through her interaction w/ expectant parent(s)
    3. She is a TREMENDOUS resource so if she doesn't know the answer, she will make sure to guide you in the right direction to find it.
Sylvia is a local treasure for a parent(s)-to-be.

Sylvia is very knowledgable in what she knows and willing to share her resources and knowledge without expressing her personal beliefs. She has been so helpful to me on three occasions. The first time is in researching my birthing plan. Another occasion she assisted me when I was overdue. She continued to support me, as I updated her on what the doctor said. She gave me the vocabulary and information I needed to ask the right questions and make the best decisions about my labor. On the last occasion, she was actually on vacation. She still took the time to listen to my concerns about breastfeeding and pumping. Sylvia is so helpful and knowledgeable in what she does, I highly recommend her services!

I can't say enough about Sylvia.  First she is very unconventional, but she really know what she is doing, so she is very effective.  But most importantly of all she loves and is passionate about the well beings of babies.

With my first born (who was 6 weeks early), the Washington Hospital lactational consultant just kept on telling me to keep on trying.  It just got so frustrating for both my son and I, we just gave up.  So, I pumped and supplemented for 9 months.  It was really exhausting and expensive.  And I felt guilty for giving up.

And then I met Sylvia... she said it was not my fault!  Preemie babies needed extra time to develop more muscle, and there are exercises that we can do to help them strengthen those muscles.  So, when I had my second child, Sylvia helped me latch my baby girl by giving her craniosacral therapy which relaxed her, and also taught me to strengthen the needed muscles for her to have a proper latch.  This is very different than the other lactational consultants (3)I've been to, who kept on telling me to try different positions and just keep on trying...  Everytime Sylvia worked on my baby, she latched well, and the latch was not as painful.

Because the latch was successful. We saved so much money on formulas, saved so much time & energy  from washing bottles, sanitizing... and my diaper bag was just my purse - because all I needed was a diaper.  And most importantly, it was such a special bonding time, that we really cherished.  Thanks Sylvia.

Sylvia is a miracle worker when it comes to improving latch, decreasing pain/discomfort with breastfeeding.
Sylvia goes beyond what most lactation consultants do, she also does craniosacral therapy (like infant massage) on the baby to help loosen and soften their mouths to improve latch.

She helped me learn to lie down and breast-feed with my oldest daughter (now is 4) which may have saved my life.  Okay, I'm exaggerating, but the side lying nursing position helped me get some rest while my infant was nursing all night long.  I was able to enjoy 25 months of a wonderful nursing relationship with my eldest daughter thanks to Sylvia!

I thought after nursing my eldest daughter for over 2 years that breast-feeding the second kid would be a breeze.  Boy was I wrong.  I had awful issues with latching, cracked nipples, mastitis and severe pain the first few weeks while nursing my second daughter.  I went to free latch clinics in Fremont and paid for private sessions with a lactation consultant in fremont.  She was lovely but did nothing to improve my pain.  She confirmed what I knew, my baby was getting what she needed but I was in excruciating pain.  I knew I'd do whatever it took (including enduring pain if I had to) to continue nursing so I persevered.

I then remembered Sylvia and called her.  I was so relieved to see her.  Her home office was in the same room off of her house in Hayward, but the furniture had changed.  There was no longer a cot/bed to lie on (too bad b/c learning to nurse while lying down really was awesome) but there was  space heater, a birthing ball and a comfy chair to nurse in.  Sylvia worked with me and my little one and softened up her mouth.  Honestly, my pain while nursing went from a 9 (on a scale of 10) to a 3 after ONE session.  It was amazing.

I cannot recommend Sylvia highly enough.  She loves what she does and is wonderful at it.

I hope you enjoy years of a nurturing, nursing relationship!

Our son had problems with breastfeeding, and had lost 12% of his bodyweight after only a few weeks. We worked with several lactation consultants (who all had great suggestions...but nothing worked!). It was not until he was almost 3 months old that one of the LC's with whom we were working referred us to Sylvia for our son to have a consultation for cranio-sacral therapy.

I will admit that at first I was very, very skeptical...it sounds alot like chiropractic work and I am not a believer in that - BUT, after seeing the amazing turnaround it brought about it my son, I am a sincere believer in infant cranio-sacral therapy for breastfeeding problems and wholeheartedly believe that it was the work that Sylvia (and her colleague, Dave) did that solved my son's problem once and for all. After only three sessions (two fairly consecutively and one "tune-up" about a month later) our son was 100% better, was gaining weight and nursing like a champ!

Sylvia is very good at what she does, very thorough, including asking detailed questions about the baby's birth and any interventions. She sends detailed reports to your pediatrician and OB/Gyn so that they are kept apprised of the treatment. She frequently follows up treatments with emails and genuinely cares about her tiny patients. She and Dave are both very gentle in the course of the therapy, I never felt for a second that my son was not in the best possible hands. And the proof, as they say, is in the pudding: our issues are a thing of the past, and our son is a beautiful chubby 7 month old now and a "pro" nurser!

I highly recommend Sylvia's services for those who are having breastfeeding issues, particularly where baby's latch is a concern and other interventions have failed. Don't give up! Sylvia can help....

p.s. Sylvia is very flexible with appointment days and times, she saw us at least once on a weekend, and does late afternoon appointments as well.

I needed help from a lactation consultant with, gasp, my second child.  I thought I was a pro since I didn't encounter any problems with my first child.  Sylvia was very accommodating with her schedule and agreed to see me the next day at 6:00pm.  My session with her helped me a great deal with the breastfeeding issues I was having with my son..   She also asked a lot of questions regarding my pregnancy and labor  and did some therapy on my son.  I  was amazed on how accurate she was  on my experience.  Sylvia knows her stuff!!  I highly recommend her!!!!

Sylvia Is by far the most knowledgable person I know. I met her more then 5 years ago and just had my third baby. She has helped me through every single pregnancy whether it be lamaze classes, or breast feeding help, doula service advice or physical therapy on my children.  Her monthly mommy and me classes are a great way to meet other moms as well as get advice and connect. I swear there is nothing this woman cannot do. She is very talented and understanding. She has always gone above and beyond what I believe most lactation consultants would and I fell I am very VERY lucky to have her in my corner!

Sylvia is a life saver!! My son is 3 1/2 weeks old and I had breastfeeding problems from the moment he was born. At the hospital before I came home I met with a lactation consultant and she sent me home with a nipple shield to help with the breastfeeding. A few days later I was in so much pain and called the hospitals lactation consultant again and asked for advice, both of my breasts were in pain and bleeding. She ordered me a breast pump to release the milk and still be able to feed him that. She never followed up with me and i was still in pain. I contacted Sylvia and met with her. She did some therapy on my son and I saw and felt a difference in the first meeting and was so surprised!!!
She has helped us so much and if it wasn't for her help I probably would have given up on breastfeeding. I am so glad that I received help from her because breastfeeding my son was something i wanted to succeed in :)

Some 16 years ago, Sylvia came to my rescue in breastfeeding. I am always grateful for the memory of how she was instant in her help when I was desperate and just about to give in to formula feeding. She was determined to find ways to help him latch on as he had a weak suck due to 3 badly administered epidurals! Sylvia patiently but doggedly worked to get me and baby boy to latch. Finally success! He thrived and I was able to experience being a mother at age 45!
Now as a grandmother for the 1st time, my own daughter, 36, enlisted Sylvia for the same help. I am thankful to see her and her own baby experiencing the closeness that was so encouraged with Sylvia's consultation.
Sylvia is kind and it's not just business. She really and truly cares for mother and baby to make that special connection. She offers her help on a sliding scale. Don't let cost prohibit from seeing her!
My advice to mothers who need such help is: SAVE YOURSELF A TON A GRIEF AND TIME, SEE SYLVIA! DON'T WAIT!
    Thank you Sylvia!
