This place has been here for years. The food is just ok. I really like non grease eggs, but their are. I  had a make your own omelet. My friend had the French toast which came out yellow and looked soggy. Like it needed to be cooked at a hotter temp. Mine was ok normal, over stuffed with bacon. Some people like the big amounts, but not me.

All in all if I am out in antioch for breakfast with my family they choose here. it's average.

WHAT HAPPEN??? I used to love going here about a year or so ago they had great breakfast.  The other day I talked my husband into taking me and trust me it took awhile because he likes to stick to what he knows.  So the service was terrible and the food was even worse!  I always loved their biscuits and gravy and being that you can get it as a side with your meal it was even better.....But this time the biscuits were tiny little hockey pucks.  We both had scrambled eggs and I had peppers and onions added to mine.  The eggs were cold and appeared as if they made a buffet style pan full of them and then just put them on plates as people ordered.  The bacon was tiny and looked and tasted of the generic brand bar s which you can buy in the grocery store.   This was the first time ever in all of my dining days that I didn't leave a tip as it was a rip off enough at 30.00 for that horrible breakfast.  Sorry Sylvia's but its back to Diggers for us.

I hadn't been here in years, stopped by for breakfast this morning, its ok. Not as special as some think

What i ordered; coffee, a Ranchero omelet, hash browns and wheat toast,

What I got; a Ranchero omelet that was a good size and pretty tasty
Country potatoes, yea they screwed that up, they were ok. Nothing special
Wheat toast that was soggy with way to much butter
Coffee; not the best tasting coffee,

The waitresses were attentive enough.... To the point of being a little annoying, when I am eating I don't need or want to be interrupted 8 to 10 times by someone asking me if everything is ok.. Just leave me alone and let me eat, I will let you know if a need anything

Compared to the Matchmaker on 10th street they have slightly smaller portions and higher prices, the breakfast at matchmaker is also better quality for less $$

Of course the neighborhood and atmosphere at Sylvia's is much nicer
Generally based on this one meal I would have to say they are not as good as the Matchmaker

Sylvia's is the apotheosis of the Greasy Spoon.
The waitresses call you Hon and know the menu inside out.
    And what a menu!!
An astonishing selection of omelettes [familiar and foreign], pancakes [little and BIG], Eggs - Any Style!, Biscuits and Gravy! Served alongside some greasy-ass hash browns and super crunchy [not burned] bacon?
The portions are huge and the prices reflect this. Figure on at least ten bucks per person, not including beverages. This isn't Denny's, dude.
Also, plan on waiting a bit longer for your food than you may be used to. Again. not Denny's.
Coming here for anything not resembling what I've described above is a mistake. And you will pay for it by having your bad review of Sylvia's mercilessly ridiculed by my sister and I.

Last Sunday I decided to go out to eat breakfast. I don't go very often and I usually enjoy going to Sylvias. We have been going since we moved here six years ago.  I ordered an omelet with egg whites and hash browns. When I got my food...I took a couple of bites and had to take a second look. There was SOOOO much grease PUDDLED at the bottom of my plate I couldn't believe it. I picked up the hash browns they were floating in oil. The omelet, from the hash browns was just full of grease. There was so much grease I literally soaked up the grease with napkins and the napkins were soaked and there was still more grease. When I showed the waitress she told me that sometimes when hash browns are cooked first thing in the morning sometimes this happens. Really? cause I have come earlier than 8:00 am for breakfast and have never had grease with my breakfast. The toast was warm bread...they weren't busy so I am not exactly sure why my bread couldn't have become toast if just left for a few extra minutes.

I did ask to take the food home and the waitress took the plate and said she was going to show it to the manager.  Well that was great but no one came out to say any thing so I figured she really didn't show her. When I was leaving I was telling the cashier about my experience and she said I should speak to the manager.  When the manager came over and I explained it to her. She said, "Oh yes, she did bring that over to me and showed me" Really? as a manager you didn't come over to your customer and say something to me. Then she explained that it was the end of the potato season and sometimes because of that grease will sit on top of the potato instead of soaking in. Hmmm, I have never heard that before. I didn't know potato's had a season...but the thing is when I was walking out and was looking at other peoples plates that had hash browns no one had grease at the bottom of their plate with floating hash browns.  To me that says that maybe the cook made an error in how he cooked this meal and instead of the manager taking responsibility for that she gave excuses as to why it happened. This meal cost me $15.00 with tip. There was not an offer to take some money off the meal, or at least an offer to come back to have breakfast on the house where the meal was cooked correctly...Not even that much...there wasn't even, "I am sorry there really was a lot of grease on that plate" The only thing she told me was the next time to order a dry hash brown where they cook it with water. Well...that's great but when I like to treat myself I like hash browns cooked with oil and I should be able to order it with out having half the bottle at the bottom of my plate.  Unfortunately I will probably not be going back to Sylvia...I think I will try to find another place for breakfast. Does anyone know of a old fashion place to have breakfast in the Antioch/Brentwood area.

Breakfast food is delicious and they know how to make it here.

On a Sunday morning expect to wait.  This place is great for a family brunch, but hope your family isn't huge like mine, so you can get seated.  The service is always pretty good, very diner-like.  Pricing is a little more than the typical diner.

The portions of everything are HUGE.  I get a mini breakfast and its still too much for me to finish.  They make typical breakfast foods, have a HUGE menu (a wide variety of omelettes).  You can get a muffin with your breakfast and they are made fresh so they run out (especially if you want a blueberry).  When you get hash browns here they take over your plate, and they are greasy and buttery and delicious.  Their biscuits are great, fluffy and soft, great with butter.  (It comes with gravy, not my thing.)

I'm really dissapointed in sylvias, I heard it was good so me, my husband and my mother in law went to try it out.
when we got to the counter we were asked how many were in our party 4 times, there were 3 ppl in our party. Not that hard. Finally when we were seated we got a rude waitress who rushed through our order and cut us all off. After she came back to take our food order she rushed through that as well. I got french toast. Not just plain french toast. It was called florence french toast or something. It came with vanilla, cinnamon sugar, brown sugar and powdered sugar. It was also made with egg whites. What I got was burnt toast... I thought it was a joke. When I asked the waitress for the rest of it she seemed angry that I asked.
    NEVER GOING BACK.

There's nothing like a bowl of Gravy to celebrate the news that you are going to be the mother of a baby boy.

I jokingly refer to my lazy dog as a bowl of Gravy sometimes.  Shes just jiggly and lays there sometimes.

This place has not changed in the years since I lived out this way.  If you want to take a step back in time come on in here.  It just oozes olden times.  Like 1970's olden times.

I ordered just the side order of Biscuits and Gravy.  It was presented to me as a bowl of Gravy with 3 Biscuits on the side.

The Biscuits were great and fluffy.  The Gravy on the other hand really sucked.  I was not happy with my bowl of Gravy.  So my celebratory Gravy wasn't to celebratory.

Service was good and she was also happy that we were expecting a boy too.

Ironically there was a baby shower being held at the other end of the restaurant as we were there too.   Then the waitress told us that another couple a few tables over also just found out they were having a boy too.

It was baby day at Sylvia's.  To bad it wasn't Gravy Day at Sylvia's.

I love this place and have been a loyal customer since childhood. This place is only good for people looking for a good country-style breakfast--no calorie counting allowed. I highly recommend the Dale's Omelette, Buttermilk Pancakes, and Oreo Milkshake. I recently tried the Banana-Nut Muffins, and they were wonderful (light and airy rather than dense). The Chorizo Breakfast Burrito is a no-brainer for those with hefty appetites! I only come here for breakfast, though, because I feel that is their specialty. I wouldn't say that it is a place to come for lunch or dinner. It gets really crowded on Sunday mornings, especially after church time. It seems everyone craves Sylvia's after prayer :)

After reading all the reviews on this place me and my friends went to see how good or bad it was. We had a great breakfast-brunch get together.

The place was not loud, the staff was friendly and fast.
They really have a large variety of menu options, and you can turn pretty much everything into an omelet, wrap, quesadilla, burrito or just have it minced, you still have a choice of two sides to go with it, and you have a lot of side options to choose from, must add that they have great hash browns.
No matter if your a big eater, a light breakfast person or just a coffee guy, this place is good for everyone. Good for breakfast-brunch and I saw some lunch and dinner options but I can't say about that. By the way I must say that the portions are big, so if you order a chicken suprem quesadilla with a side of fruit and oatmeal, believe me that you will be taking home half of the quesadilla and the oatmeal LOL, that happened to my friend.

Enjoy your visit and review later.

My, My.... Now for good hearty country cooking, this place is as good as it gets!

It's literally been years since I have been here, I used to come here a lot back in the day when I first moved to Antioch, but unfortunately times have changed and my body wont allow me to eat at such places like this regularly, though every once in a while it is certainly worth the extra cals.

I was craving a Patty Melt and for some reason Sylvia's popped in my head. I have never been disappointed with a meal from Sylvia's, they have always been extremely tasty, hearty and very filling.

The decor of the place has not changed at all over the years( which I appreciate) there keeping it real - homey, comfy real.

Anyhow, I ordered a patty melt with mozzarella cheese (being they did not have Swiss) which came with your choice of onion rings, fries,  fruit or cottage cheese (I was bad and got the onion rings)

Oh my, was my patty melt fantastic! Gracious in size- a thick succulent hamburger patty, gooey melted mozzarella cheese (which I have never had on a patty melt before and it was superb) sautéed onion rings on perfectly toasted rye bread!! Seriously the best hamburger I have had in years!! The onion rings were to match as well, they were huge so I only had 2 little onion rings and tossed the rest (no since in saving)

Service was sincere and accommodating, I Wish I could indulge like that more often though, keeping it seldom makes it all the more enjoyable. Can't wait tell my next splurge day!

    Sylvia's, Oh Sylvia's....

I've lived in Antioch all my life, and yesterday was the first time I set foot through your doors. I've heard many good things about this place, so the bar was set pretty high. And my experience here was all that I had imagined it to be!

Upon looking at the menu, I saw this extensive list of different combinations of eggs, veggies, and meat. Here, you can order your 3 eggs (whole, egg beaters, or whites) served as an omelet, wrap, burrito, quesadilla, or minced (scrambled). They all come with two sides, with sides ranging from hash browns and grits to one pancake or a bowl of fruit. There were about 10-15 options for sides! I decided to get the chicken supreme burrito -- chicken, spinach, mushrooms, avocado, tomato with 3 egg beaters -- and hash browns and fruit for sides.

Talk about bang for your buck, my burrito was ginormous, and my side of hash brown more than plentiful! I knew I could probably only eat 1/3 or 1/2 of this thing, so I paced myself into it. The burrito was everything I had expected it to be...the combination of eggs, chicken, and veggies sent my taste buds into a happy tailspin. Hash browns crispy on the outside, still soft on the inside -- just how I like them. And the bowl of fruit, a hodgepodge of grapefruit, honeydew, cantaloupe, and orange was the perfect way to wash my palate. All of this for 10 bucks and some change...and I have extras for breakfast today!

The only slight pitfalls I encountered here was a minor miscommunication with two of the waitresses. For quite some time we had the hostess and the waitress waiting on us at the same time.  Also, our waitress was a little hard of hearing, so we essentially had to say our order twice. Though, she provided very thoughtful and attentive service.

I seriously don't know why I waited so long to try this place. I could've had 20 years worth of good breakfast food here! Needless to say, I'll be coming back here again.

I have lived close to this area almost all of my life and I have just experienced Sylvia's in the last year or so. The food is very tasty and you get a ton for what you pay for.

I went with a friend of mine one day for lunch after an office meeting and it was very good.

The waitstaff is very sweet and personable.

The only drawback, which is not the restaurant's fault are the looter's that hang out in the parking lot that sneak up on you to ask you for money claiming they are spreading the word of god... you can't help but feel that you are going to get jacked at any possible minute but other than that, this place is great.

First off let me say I am an omelette fanatic. For that reason alone i am in heaven when I go to Sylvia's. The selection is beyond anything one can imagine. They offer at least twelve different omelettes. For the longest time I was a huge fan of omelettes from IHOP. Sylvia's makes IHOP's seem like Denny's.

They also have great biscuits and gravy, grits and hash browns. Me and my friends always leave exceptionally satisfied.

    Total hangover breakfast.

I had resisted writing a review of Sylvia's only because the past few times i'd been here I was so hungover I was literally sick to my stomach and I didnt think it was fair to review if I was throwing up in the bathroom with my food in a to go container.

Today was different.  I *might* be feeling generous because I met my cousin here today.  This is a cousin I havent seen in about 10 years.

We both ordered the typical breakfast and by typical I mean your choice of starch, meat and egg.  I had sausage, she had bacon.  My mom had an omelet (which was HUGE and they offer a variety of different omelet combo's).

We all left stuffed and with to go containers.

There is usually a wait for a table on the weekends but they move people quickly.

Once our server knew we were done she never came back to offer to go containers.  She walked by several times and I finally had to flag her down to ask for some.

Still, all in all a nice place to get a generous portion of breakfast lovin' in antioch.

I wish they served cocktails, I could have used a Bloody Mary this morning.........

Big Portions = Big Prices....Got it?

I've heard of Sylvia's for the past couple years and it came up again since I've moved out this direction.  Time to try. What I was told was the food was really good, wasn't very cheap, and there could be a wait.  So check this out...what I heard was right!!  Get it?  I knew what to expect...it was fine.  However, this place is hard to rate because, there's good, bad, and just what is is.

    What it is:

    1. Huge portions - as just as t sounds.  Like Claim Jumper for breakfast.  I'd say one pancake is plenty.  Order a side of hash browns and now you have enough for 2 more people.  Almost everything we ordered was over abundant.  I'd recommend that you visit with someone you're not afraid to share food with.

    2. Deceptively large and out dated - From the front on the downhill side, it looks very average. Step inside and it's twice as big as it had appeared.  Jenn N described as a casino type restaurant, and she's right.  Like Fremont Street casino place or almost any place in Reno.  This place fits that to a T.  I could swear they were calling out KENO numbers or something.

    The Bad:

    1.  The bad food - They killed the bacon.  If you like it beyond crispy, you've found your place.  They lied and said biscuits and gravy.  The biscuits are not on the "large portion" menu.  In fact, they were ridiculously small.  Don't be fooled on this part.

    2. The waitress was nice and served us fairly well.  She was a hustler and it looked like she has been her whole life.  That didn't bother me.  What bothered me was the thumb on the edge of the plate as she carried it, kinda touched some of the food.  Not the end of the world.  Dirt under the nails made it, uh, not delicious?

    The Good:
    1. The wait - I hate the wait.  Sunday morning is a terrible time to be really hungry and then choose to eat out.  Though some have complained about the wait, we were told 15 and they were early.  I won't plan on that being  the norm, but it was nice for a first visit.

    2. The good food - was just that...good.  I'm a stickler when it comes to hash browns.  So many places do a terrible job with them, but Sylvia's does it right.  Probably the best part of the meal.  The omelet was pretty good and so were the pancakes.

I'll probably go back there if it's near anything I'm planning to go to.  Read the reviews and try it yourself.  Really!
    The Good:

My boyfriend and I tried to come here on Valentine's Day, but it was crowded. After last night's shenanigans at the YEE @ Yoshi's, my boyfriend and I needed a hearty breakfast that will leave our bellies content.

When you walk into Sylvia's you can't help but notice the decor and the environment. I liked it because it was so old school with the in the middle cake case in the front. And their breakfast selection is three pages. I ordered the Bozo Special which is 4 slices of bacon and 2 eggs and one huge pancake. I also ordered hash browns on the side. The portions are humongous!

My boyfriend ordered the Uno-Dos-Tres which is one egg, two pieces of bacon and three pieces of Texas-bread French toast. I left happy and (slightly) recovered from last night.

Wow, I'm a bit surprised by the positive reviews of this place.

First off, the atmosphere of this place is straight out of the 1970s. It's a bit like dipping into a time warp and visiting an old "Sambos" breakfast diner. I actually like those old places, but the only problem is that there was somehow a certain charm to the chipped plates and bent forks at "Sambos". Here, it's just a bit dirty and unappealing.

The food portions are enormous, and so are the other people eating next to you in this place. You know on the news when they do a story about obesity in the US and they show a crowd of people from the waist down with huge pot bellies and cow-like cankles walking in public? THESE ARE THOSE PEOPLE. Normally the large food portions would be worthy of at least two stars, but strangely the prices are not dirt cheap as one could expect, and the food itself is mediocre at best. So in this case, the portion size just prolongs the agony.

I ordered the most basic of the basic items. A club sandwich with fries and coffee. The coffee was weak, the club was "off" and the fries tasted like tacos. No, seriously, it tasted like the fried the French fries in the same oil they use to make tacos or something. Yuck.

I guess if you're completely hung over and need a greasy meal to cure your headache this could work. But you're probably better off going across the street to the Quick Stop and getting a 40 to keep you're buzz going. You're going to need to be HAMMERED to think this garbage tastes good.

I didn't get syrup for my waffle a good ten minutes after everything arrived.  Bacon tasted like plastic, and the clientele dining here looked just as self-involved and bloated as the people on that big spaceship in WALL-E.

Decor: Brady Bunch's rec room meets Oil Changers 3000.  Yes, it is that greasy inside.  All I have to do is look at the place and I get a pimple.

I've heard good things about Sylvia's for more than a decade. Today, I decided to give it a try.

    Big Mistake.

We showed up a bit after the lunch rush, and easily got a seat. A surly hostess literally snuck up behind me and in poor English asked the guests at my table if they wanted anything to drink. She hadn't given us menus, and didn't volunteer our choices, and seemed really perturbed to take our order. She gave us knives. Only knives.

A few minutes later, another woman who had an air of someone who ran the place presented to take our food order. She barely smiled, only giving a gentle grin to me as she patronized one of the other patrons who was trying to understand the menu.

When I ordered the special, she looked at me uncertainly and said "What?" and then I had to explain to her what the day's special was, feeling like I'd certainly made a mistake by ordering it. She brought us forks after we asked. We had to ask the surly server to get a spoon to eat our dessert. Is there a silverware rationing program going on that I wasn't told about?

The food was completely below average. Boring. Uninspired. Greasy.

A refill of my drink was given begrudgingly (TWO SEVENTY FIVE FOR A SODA served in cheap plastic "mugs"???).

And the bill was astonishingly high: appetizer, a couple of sandwiches, a couple of sodas, and a shake. About forty bucks.

As a contrast, I had a couple of cheesburgers, fries, a soda and a shake, and got them all with a big smile at In N Out a few days ago and it cost 1/5 the price and tasted a heck of a lot better.

Strong negative recommendation. I'm sorry I went.

This is a great place!! I  not sure what all the complaining is about...maybe because it is not some corporate restaurant. It is a comfotable, home-style place where you can take the whole family and know that you are going to be well fed and taken care of. I have been going here for several years and have had several items, burgers, pancakes, omletes, salads and it has all been good. The soup and salad is NICE size, not some little skimpy cup of soup and salad either!!

Yes, some of their prices are pricey BUT you never leave hungry.  I gave paid more for less in other places.

Also my family has gotten free refils on our drinks everytime so I am not sure what one piste was talking about.

If you like corporate boring places such ad IHOP and Denny's then maybe this place is not for you but if you like to feel like you are being taken care of and want something tasty (and a lot of it) to eat, then this is your place...it is time to dump the Grand Slam!!!!

I have finally tried the infamous Sylvia's that everyone talks about. Well well well. I was a bit surprised at the prices. Came here for an early lunch and found that a simple Chicken sandwich with a choice of side was $12.00 plus dollars. Wow.
It was good, but for what it is, and for what this restaurant is I have sticker shock. Alot of people eat here, and it has quite a following. I just am not that overly impressed that I would go out of my way to eat here again. For a $30.00 lunch for 2 I can think of some places to eat that at least have a nicer atmosphere and/or a view or something nice to look at.

    One of my old favorites.
The Orginal restaurant was called; 'The Round Up'. Near the old lucky's on 'A' street. Portions were real then. Very busy too.
With the recent addition of the new restaurants arriving the past few years, it's a wonder they still can charge these prices.

Don't get me wrong, we've had great memorable service and meals here, it's just that it seems management got greedy a few years back and raised prices without notice.
If you can get past the 'Snooty' servers and small portions. Who ever heard of Veggies costing extra with your meal?...

What's next, no Rolls or Bread with your meal?.
I hear their breakfast is good. Hmmm.
All that number calling is the cooks calling the servers to come pick up their orders. Yes, there is such a thing as overkill on the decor, this place is as such!.

Love the food, especially the breakfast omelets. The service is always good with friendly staff that treat you like family. I only wish they would add waffles to the menu. 4 STARS.

4.5 stars...I Love this place!  It's one of those places that should be on Diners, Drive In and Dives..hehe.

We go there on occasion, less now because we moved away from the Antioch area, but this is the one place we will go back to Antioch for.  There's something about this place that makes you feel at home.  Maybe it's the friendly faces when you walk in, the wonderful staff or could it be...the outstanding food!

I love everything on the menu (although I've never had EVERYTHING! hehe)....there's soooo much to chose from.  We have always had breakfast when we go to Sylvia's because that's what it's known for.  It's always crowded in the mornings especially during weekends.

You can tell it's popular because there's A LOT of families and senior citizens who come here....and ya'll know that the 55+ diners know their grub for 5am in the morning! LOL   I love the booths- again the diner feel, cozy and nice.  This place is a warp back in time, and that's the appeal...it's not a Denny's or IHOP, it's cute, quaint and that's why people like it...really, either you dig it or you don't.  I personally like the flash back to the 60's or 50's or whatever era....it's different.  Also, the cute kid's drawings on the wall....adorable.

When you walk in, there's a little dessert thing (glass case thingie) that had a bunch of pies/cakes and the slices look huge!! I've never had any of the desserts but from the looks of it...makes me drool.

I usually get one of the many breakfast burritos and it comes with your choice of hash, potatoes, etc...I always get the hash browns extra crispy. Yum!  When I don't get the burrito, I usually get the skillet which also comes with choice of potatoes and bread, i.e. toast, biscuit, english muffin, muffin, etc...I ALWAYS get the biscuits...the same biscuits they use in their biscuits and gravy...OMG on the biscuits and gravy, it is off the hook!  =)

The coffee is good and I'm picky about my coffee, and my cup is never empty when I'm eating at Sylvia's.  As I mentioned, the service is excellent and I love when the older waitress call you "honey" or "sweety" after everything...cracks me up!

Portions are HUGE!  I never ever finish, well a couple of times I have, but now I think my stomach shrank!  I can see why a lot of the locals have been coming here for years and yes...some look like they've been comin' for years....haha...but hey, it's your life, enjoy it and eat up!

And the prices are so low and the quality is great!  I haven't found another place like Sylvia's and my quest continues.....until then...my stomach and heart is at Sylvia's for bfast! wOoHoO!  .....more biscuits please!  =)

Service is slowwwwww. But I only go here for the Monterey Chicken salad, it is absolutely the best salad ever. It is not on the menu you have to ask for it. It is super large.

If you dig a good, hearty meal at a coffee shop/diner, then this is the place for you.

No - it's not your example of high-class or gourmet. It's good old-fashioned quality home-cooking that warms your tummy and your soul.

I grew up on this place, and everytime I make the trek home, I go to Sylvia's.  I usually get breakfast (eggs and sausage links or the "Tristan's" omelet), but sometimes have a hankering for their delicious (not - so - nutricious) French Dip Supreme, sans onions. However, I've had close to everything on the menu and it's all been a delight.

The prices are in line with what they should be.

The waitresses aren't going to hold your hand through the menu, but they'll tell you a story or make you laugh. That's what career waitresses do..

The coffee is strong - just the way i like (need) it to be; the iced-tea is refreshing and thirst-quenching.

And, they have a big bowl of hard candy as your exiting. A perfect way to top off your meal. :)

    This place is the best.

Best breakfast place in east county, hands down.  I come here fairly regularly and always leave stuffed.  They have probably 100 different omelet combinations on the menu, enough options for anyone, and each of those omelets comes with two sides.  Their country potatoes are delicious - fried sliced potatoes that give you more crispy bits than regular hash browns.  And I always get the biscuits and gravy.  Perfect for those slightly hungover mornings.

I took a star off only because they don't have waffles, and my son looooves waffles.

I love Sylvia's. I've only had their breakfast which I think is what they're most known for but hey I'm certainly satisfied.

The breakfast portions are huge, I generally share an omelette because there's no way I can eat one on my own. Even eating half I still tend to leave some behind. There are a ton of omelette options making it difficult to choose just one so I suggest going on more than once to make sure you can try something new.

I also like that they give you the option to eat on the healthier side if you so choose. All omelettes can come with egg whites for not much more and you can even get french toast made with sourdough, egg whites and nonfat milk with fruit on the side rather than that tasty stuff called butter and syrup which isn't what I would call my best friend despite our amicable acquaintance.

On weekends be prepared to wait because it's very popular and the service can slow down a little bit but the waitresses work extremely hard to get everything out on time. It's really just that every single table is filled. You can also call in your order ahead of time and just pick it up when you get there and then take it home if you don't want to wait.

The waitresses are all very nice and I don't recall ever having a complaint about the food.

This place is an ADD sufferer's nightmare.

From the outside: A small, quaint breakfast spot.  People line the curb out front waiting for a coveted table to open up.

Once inside: You have to navigate around an 8 ft tall blow-up turkey that fills 80% of the waiting area. As you are squeezing your mass around said turkey, you will be face to face with approx. 100 stark white sheets of paper.  All of them lovingly covered by children in bright, multi-colored color crayon scribbles.

There's a jolly Mamma type who greets you and then passes you off to one of the various assortment of their wait staff.  I noted: Trucker Tina, Bootstrap Bill, Right said Fred, Punky Brewster and Rosanna Dannah.

As we followed our waitress deeper and deeper into the place, I realized that it wasn't small or quaint at all.  In fact, I felt like I was in a Casino. More Flamingo than Wynn but Vegas-ish for sure.  The in-set ceiling with mirrors didn't help.
    "33"
We were handed menus and tried to make a decision.  There's an entire page devoted to omelets and a plethora of side order options.  A half a page is dedicated to various sizes and amounts of pancakes.  There's really no rhyme or reason to it - my head started spinning as I read over a multitude of words such as: Pony, Fall, Bozo, Diablo, ...
    "21"
    huh?

Can I just get eggs, bacon & toast?
    "53"
The waitress helped us out and we ended up with four huge plates of food.  The hash browns were fresh and cooked perfectly.  The omelet was delicious as well.  We all decided that I can make pancakes better at home and my friend's bacon was a bit over-cooked for his taste.
    "20"
A couple of large screen tv's showing football & news donned the ceiling.  Already half wilted turkey balloons floated here and there. I wondered if they actually expected them to last all the way to Thanksgiving when they lined the tables with them.
    "36"
At that point, I felt like a blood vessel was going to pop in my head.  WHY do they keep calling out numbers over a loud speaker?  When your table is ready, they call you out by name and no one appeared to be waiting for food to go. So what is the deal?  I kept expecting a cocktail waitress to come around with a Keno card.

The service was excellent.  The portions were huge.

I was never able to figure out what all the random number chanting was about.

I've been to Sylvia's quite a bit since I've lived in town.  My mom seems to love this place.  I however feel that it's a coin toss whether or not it will be an enjoyable experience.  Breakfast is pretty good, portion is good... prices are slightly high for what it is.  We have only gone there on the weekend and it's always crowded but we are usually seated in no more than 10 minutes.  The last couple times we went there we were seated in the same section and the woman was older and pretty slow.  She looked pretty stressed out as well.  She was unapologetic to the fact that we had waited for our food for over 20 minutes and our appetizer came out at the same time as our food.  So we sent it back.  She (of course) blamed it on the kitchen... HELLO, SHE should have put the appetizer order in BEFORE she put in the meals.  Seems logical right?  But the next time I guess she was having a good day because she was friendly.

I won't go as far to say that I would not return there... I just might consider someplace else first.

Been going here all my life and it does not get any better for breakfast. The chicken enchilada omelette with extra crispy hash browns might be the most delicious meal I have ever had. The portions are almost to big. The price could be a little cheaper but you pay for reliability. I have never been let down by anything on the menu. A must for any one who is coming through the Antioch area.

How is this place so packed? The food ain't that cheap! Came here on a Sunday morning with Mike, my bro and his wife and 2 kids and my sister and her son around 11am and the restaurant was loaded with people all shelling out over $10 each for a Denny's-esque breakfast. Of course you DO get a lot of food for the money you're spending. I'm talking some giant sized portions. There are about 20 different egg + ingredients combinations you can choose from and you can have them as an omelet, wrap, burrito, or quesadilla and you can choose egg whites only. With that you pick 2 sides that include things like fruit, cottage cheese, steamed broccoli, sliced tomato, biscuits and gravy (my siblings raved about how good these were, but to me they looked like heart attacks on a plate), hash browns, country potatoes, regular pancakes, silver dollars, ponys (when we asked the waitress what a "pony" is she said it's like pancake but smaller to which my brother replied,  "That's why the song doesn't go 'Ride it, my pancake'" ), and a couple of other things....and this only the first page of the menu! There are so many things to choose from here but I doubt I will ever make it past that first page.

I ordered a Chicken Supreme Omelet w/egg whites and sides of fruit and country potatoes, Mike and my brother got the Lumber Yard breakfast and my sister and sis-in-law got the Diablo and Compy Omelets. A couple of side orders of waffles and bacon were ordered for the kids plus some tea, coffee and soda and our total came out to almost $100! My tea was $2.55! For tea!!! I wanted to order juice too but that was over $3 for a glass. The food was really good though, yes, a teensy bit on the greasy side as others have mentioned but still pretty grubbin'. My one food gripe is that I thought the country potatoes would be cubed chunks of potato seasoned and with bell peppers and onions but what I got was more like fried potatoes. I had to douse them with Tabasco sauce (they don't have Tapatio!!!) and ketchup.

The décor is pretty standard for a diner but in the back against the windows are several United States Armed Forces banners. The waitresses were all really nice and were good about putting up with fussy kids. I guess they'd have to be since the place was full of little kids. One of the side orders for my nephew came with a little pile of M&M's and they have crayons and paper to color on so it really is "kid friendly".
