Swerve is a welcoming, fun gym alternative; the teachers are truly talented. Many great yoga instructors -- $10 classes every weekday at 12:30!

My favorite class is Shimmy Shape Up with Shea. She's an accomplished dancer/athlete and a truly gifted teacher. This class uses belly dancing as a jumping off point for a great workout. So, you get to learn an ancient, feminine art form while sweating a lot and working your booty. Shea explains everything for beginners, yet pushes others to really learn technique. This class is a great compliment to yoga or other upper body exercise because there's so much belly and rear action. I noticed a huge lower body difference after taking Shea's class consistently for six weeks -- I'd never had such clear results from exercise before.

Finally, in terms of parking, crowds, and hours good for the working gal as others have raised -- all of these are addressed by Shea's class. I find free parking in the lot downstairs every single Tues and Thurs night at 8:30 and sometimes on Sundays at 1:30. The Tues and Thurs night classes are also perfect for those of us who are parents who tuck our kids into bed before working out! It's never too crowded and always very friendly, festive, and interesting.

Great schedule, awesome music, amazing teacher -- worth checking out!

There really aren't enough good things I could write about my beloved home away from home, Swerve. I joined almost a year and a half ago on a whim and have been an fiend ever since... like "feel sick if I don't go everyday" fiend. Obsessed!

The number one reason I love Swerve is the sense of community I feel there. I have met so many amazing people and made so many fantastic friends through Swerve- people I see in classes, people I pass on the stairs between classes, the gems who work the Desk, and most of all the kick-ass sweethearts who teach at Swerve! The Teachers bring SO much to the classes and genuinly want to help you reach whatever your goal- whether it's just to dance and have fun, release stress, or get yo' sweat on!

In a close second are the amazing, diverse classes that got me actually excited to workout! I dare you to try Yoga Booty Ballet (YBB) and not get excited to work out! Gillian's classes are challenging and choreography heavy, but simple to learn! You will definitely get a great workout in. Patty is another favorite who has amazing dance mixes and will have biting your lip, trying not to laugh during meditation. Teigh lets you really let loose and dance "to feel good."

Swerve also has really great cardio sculpt classes- Triple A with Krista is a GREAT workout, but it goes really fast and she keeps the tone light! They also have a lot of great Barre classes to get your derriere lookin' right! I also suggest any of the Circuit Training classes- it helped me get over my fear of doing strength training and it goes really quick!

Gillian and Teigh have really created a warm, inviting, and peaceful setting for folks to do great work- whether it be spiritual, physical, whateva! They're also a small, local studio who I feel much better supporting than some stupid chain gym where there is no personal attention and gross, meaty dudes hitting on you. Don't get me wrong, folks might flirt with you here, but you'd probably like it :)

I don't understand why most of the reviews are high - I bought a 4-class deal for this studio after reading the reviews.

I went to Yoga Booty Ballet because it sounded like it incorporated different exercises that I enjoy. The class began with a bunch of dance routines with hardly any instruction or cues. The instructor was blabbing on the whole time about random things that were completely unrelated to the class. I could deal with those things if the workout itself was challenging or invigorating in ANY way. But it wasn't...if I'm going to pay $15-20 bucks for a workout class it better be a frickin workout!

Needless to say I was very disappointed. I'd rather not pay to dance around aimlessly with no instruction while listening to some hippy-dippy definition-of-insane-LA-woman's stream of consciousness...

And one more not - I found it very hard to motivate myself to even go back to the place. I was also busy with work and could not use all of my 4 prepaid classes within 30 days. I called to see if they would extend and they wanted to charge me $8 to do that. No thanks! Already bummed I wasted money of this place at all...

The Yoga Booty Ballet sign always intrigued me as a I drove down 3rd St. Then, the recent Living Social voucher was the perfect opportunity to try out the classes.

I loved it immediately. I started off with Dance Party with Lauren on a Friday morning, and I danced as if I was alone in my bedroom. My second class was Yoga Booty Ballet with Patty. She said to "Tap into your inner Brazilian." l loved beginning with meditation, doing some dancing while incorporating simple ballet basics, and ending with stretches on the yoga mats. Next, I tried Worldbeat Workout taught by Kim. This was a bit more challenging to follow but was still fun along with the live percussion. I couldn't resist taking another Yoga Booty Ballet class. Teigh led the group of regulars and newbies with ease, and the lovely hour just flew by. It's like I danced off all my stresses and worries.

I just love the vibe and energy at Swerve. The staff is very sweet and welcoming to newcomers. The instructors seem truly passionate about their jobs that their smile and energy is contagious. Whether if we're dancing to Prince, Lady Gaga, or Usher, the workout is both fun and effective as I feel better inside and out.

I look forward to taking many more classes at Swerve.

The only bad thing as mentioned in the other reviews is the parking. Finding parking isn't impossible but just plain frustrating, which is a typical LA problem. So come early and bring some extra quarters for the meters.

Oh Swerve, how I love you; let me count the ways....

From the friendly, sincere, encouraging instructors - who make it their business to learn your name on your first visit (and remember it when you return), to the amazing front-desk staff, every experience I've ever had here has been wonderful.

After every class, I leave feeling a million times better; happier, refreshed, invigorated and with a kick-ass workout under my belt (and usually fairly sweaty too). And to think before Swerve, I really didn't like to workout much...Now I find myself getting excited to pick-out the next class I'll take there. The people who workout at/go to Swerve are also very nice and you never feel like you're in a competitive environment - everyone goes at their own pace and no one's gonna give you a crazy eye if you need to take a little break here or there...Swerve gives you that "Cheers" kind of vibe - where everyone knows your name and has a community feel to it that's nice (and you always feel great by the time you leave).

I love the 6 Pack Abs and Booty Kickin' Sculpt classes with Gillian. She is a great instructor, and I can always feel the burn the next day...Yoga Booty Ballet is also really fun.

If you've never been to Swerve, a few important tips!! Parking can be a real headache, but as long as you know that beforehand and give yourself 15 minutes to find a spot, you'll be fine...They have a small lot and there's a lot of street parking in the area. If you park in the neighborhood, just make sure to read all the street signs! Also, a lot of their best classes are during the work-day (9-5pm), so that's something to keep in mind. However, if your schedule is flexible during the week, I highly recommend trying as many classes as you can at Swerve, as they have something for everyone. Get yo' Swerve on!!

I live here.  No joke.  I spend an incredible amount of time at this studio and am obsessed with this place.  It has changed my life as well as my body.

Here's the breakdown of some of my favorite classes:

    (1) Patty Wortham's YBB Class - Patty is not a trained dancer but she is a firecracker.  This class has simple steps but you are definitely sweating like a pig by the end of the hour.  All you need to remember is to "dance like you're alone in your bedroom."  If you want a high energy workout with an amazing soundtrack and a comparably high spirited trainer, look no further.

    (2) Jesse S's Rock n Roll Pilates - Jesse kicks your AAAAAASS.  This is a great class to double down on with Patty's YBB class.  They are back to back on M and W.  Jesse a great job of providing exercises that will tone your entire body and work underused muscles.  However, this class is not for the light of heart.  I constantly find myself cursing her name during the workout.

    (3) Lauren Haze's Dance Party - This class if FUN and VIBRANT just like Lauren.  She tries to incorporate different types of World Dance in every class and changes it up a lot more frequently than some of the other instructors.  It's definitely a favorite if I can get out of work early and keeps your spirit alive!

    (4) Any class with Gillian - Gillian is one of the Founders of YBB and teaches YBB as well as Booty Kickin' Sculpt and I believe some others.  I find her to be wise as well as highly motivating.  I love the encouragement she has given me and she gives the best constructive critiques.  Her Saturday 10AM YBB class is one word: epic.

    (5) Circuit Training with Jennifer C. - Jennifer scares me.  Because she is a tough fierce lady.  If you want to feel the pain - this is the place to go.  My only issue with J is that she is pretty advanced in everything she teaches so it might be hard to take a class with her if you are not a gym rat.

Love this studio.  Because of them - I have more energy and have lost a toddler's worth of weight.  Will probably be going to this studio until I move....to another county or somewhere really far away (don't plan on doing that anytime soon though).

I drove past this place several times and thought it looked pretty cool so I decided to sign up for a class there. It actually has a really good location, very central and near the beverly center etc. which unfortunately means that parking is a b**ch. the strip mall has like, 5 parking spots available which is NOT enough for the 20 people who show up for class. and most of the street parking is for residents only. so that's the first pain in the a** part.

the thing i really don't like about this place, is that even though there is a reservation thing online, there doesn't seem to be a cut-off for the number of people who can join. which is great for the studio because they make more money per class, but sucks for you if you're trying to squeeze into a corner in the tiny studio. in fact, in the 3 times that i went to swerve, i could barely work out because i didn't want to kick someone in the face. and since space is so tight, forget about any personal attention/tips from the instructor.

i'm only giving this place two stars because one of the times that i went the instructor was really nice. she seemed sincere and smiled a lot and stuff. that's cool. the rest of the instructors seem kinda fake, but since you wont be talking to them anyway it doesn't really matter.

    not coming back here.

Swerve is amazing.  The instructors are fabulous and encouraging.  (Patty is the best!)  Yoga Booty Ballet has become my addiction!  The studio really does offer something for everyone.  Love the Circuit training, world beat workout classes too!  As a former aerobics instructor/dancer, I love all the dance-inspired classes, but Anyone can do it.  You leave class feeling empowered and oh so sweaty!  (Despite the sweat, it almost doesn't even feel like 'working out' because it's so much fun.)

Drawbacks:  parking is sparse.  Tiny lot in front, that if you find a spot in, you feel like you've hit the jackpot.  Or street parking at meters, that you have to pay even on Sundays.  (There have even been times that I've circled the neighborhood looking for parking and eventually missed my class because I couldn't find a spot, but it's rare.)

Swerve is not cheap.  For what I paid in a year at my former gym, I pay for a month unlimited membership here.  But it's worth it.  And I make a point to come to at least 4 classes a week- and it shows.

Swerve is close enough to my place where I can walk (ok, it's a brisk one mile walk, but at least it gets my blood pumping).  This is a plus, because parking is a beeeee-yotch.  That's one of the reasons I finally chose it as my go-to yoga place, even though they don't do much yoga.

Here's the thing: Swerve has some great instructors, a nice ambience (twinkly white lights in the main excercise room) and they teach the innovative and fresh (and  trademarked) Yoga Booty Ballet.  Depending on the instructor, you might also hear some really good music.

Instructors: I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jessie Sospirato's Rock N'Roll Pilates class. Jessie's one of those toned, tall, no-nonesense chicks with a couple of honkin' big (not little, femme-y) tattoos, a friendly attitude, no big New Age schtick (what can I say, I'm from the East Coast) and a kickbutt approach towards excercise.  She never lets down, she pays attention, and thanks to her I have some nicely sculpted and toned abs and arms where pudding once used to live.

Second fave: Mike Cornell, who teaches the Ballet Stretch and Tone.  Mike's a trained dancer who puts us through some real classical dance moves (so finally, after all these years, my childhood fantasy of being a ballerina is finally coming true, even if only in the teeniest way).  Mike isn't a ballet snob, he's down to earth, handsome in a real-guy kind of way, and he pays close attention.  He also doesn't laugh as I wobble precariously while doing a pathetic arabesque.

Also great are Teigh McDonough's  and Kim Blank's Yoga Booty Ballet classes.  This is their signature class and involves a bit of relaxation at the beginning, some om-ing, then stretches, then about 30 minutes of frenetic dancing (so picture me whirling the wrong way as 25 perfectly trained starlets surrounding me march-step like Britney backup dancers) and then a very minimalistic final 8 minutes of ballet and yoga.  But it's fun, even with my spazz-tendencies.  My only complaint is....why do so many places in LA equate ear-blstering loudness with "fun"?  I didn't even like it when I was in a punk band,  And at the end of my work day, facing traffic, frantically running errands, I wistfully wish my self-selected yoga classes were a bit more...relaxing.

And here's my other complaint: so many of the really great sounding classes are taught between 9 and 5, when many of us poor diurnal creatures (gasp!) toil away at their jobs.  Yup, we're day workers, and some of us even have to pay our bills by working!  Surprise!  So...wouldn't it be nice if I had a few more choices at times when I could actually take the classes.  We don't all work odd industry hours or live in rich people's cabanas while we psychoanalyze their chihuauas.  That's nice work if you can get it, but many of us prefer the overall safety of a pension plan...

And I know I could go to Larchmont Yoga, or Liberation (two excellent places close-ish to me) but I like the spirit at Swerve, and the smallness of the studio, and the views of the Hollywood Hills from the windows.  I like that Mike plays a mix of classical, jazz, alterna-tango, and Hall and Oates (!!!) for his barre excercises, and that Jesse plays Joan Jett, heavy metal anthems, and punk.

So, I'll just have to pop in my earplugs, avoid the classes where we get pole-dance choreography (hint to guys on the make: Swerve is open to men and women) because frankly stripping and dirty dancing is sooooo yesterday, and have a good time at their self-provlaimed "kula" (sisterhood of the heart).  Awwww. Queen CrabbyPants has a soft side....

I took the Bollywood Bhangra Beats class with Achinta McDaniels and it was awesome! The class is structured so you learn a routine taught over the course of 2 classes. It's not the belly dancing some expect. The moves aren't as slow or fluid. Bollywood is high impact with a lot of jumping and bounding around the room. It involves quick footwork and jerky shoulder movements but it can definitely be sexy (if you do it right). Achinta urges you to begin each dance with your own individual "sexy pose," whether draped along the wall or catlike arched on the floor. She encourages you to keep you eyes fierce as though you're playing to an audience and keep your body soft and supple. At first the movements feel awkward and uncomfortable but with Achinta's instruction (and a little practice) the dance becomes graceful and alluring.

What really makes the class awesome is the instructor. Achinta has been called a "fireball of a teacher" and that's completely accurate. She truly loves dance and loves teaching it to others. She instructs you on the basic movements then encourages you to make the routines your own and have fun. Everyone in the room was a beginner but Achinta cheered on every dancer as though each woman was the best she had ever seen.

More than a dance class this is a workout so be prepared to sweat.

This studio is not nearby me but my friend and I decided to go check it out...Came here last Saturday b/c they were have a special going on: A medley of all their class offerings. This was definitely a good intro on what the studio has to offer. I personally didn't care for the Yoga Ballet. I don't know the exact name of the classes but I particularly liked the hip hop and kick boxing. I believe the entire sample of classes lasted about 2 hours! All in all a great overview.

Like everyone else said, parking is very difficult. It took us about 15 min to find something...which I know if I were to do this all the time I would def get annoyed.

I love this place. I'd passed by so many times and heard about the famous yoga booty ballet, but what really pulled me in and hooked me is Elsie's Yoga classes. I started about a year ago (and since then have strayed - scheduling issues - but am quickly finding my way back). It's at 7:30 a.m. which in this biting cold is tough but well worth it. It's a small environment. Mostly women and very safe and comfortable.

I've taken the Booty Ballet, Ballet Body, and World Beat classes as well. All are challenging (especially anything taught by Kim... she'll work like a dog, and while you bitch all through it, you'll be glad for it.) Class sizes are generally small (except for weekend Booty Ballet) and you get a true community feel here. Highly recommend this place.

I am completely addicted to Yoga Booty Ballet and if I could just spend every evening with Patty, dancing "like I'm alone in my bedroom" I would.  YBB is the most joyful fitness/meditation experience I have ever had.  I literally wake up on Wednesday morning, excited for the class that evening.    The short meditation at the beginning really serves to bring you fully into the room so then you can shake your booty to cheesy pop songs until you sweat like nobody's business.

Parking can be tough, though I can usually score either a free lot spot or a $1 metered space nearby.
The only other downside is that many of the YBB classes are scheduled while I'm at work, so I can only attend 2-3 times a week.  Yes, seriously, I love it so much that 3 times a week is not enough.

I really enjoy this studio.  The atmosphere is welcoming and warm, and YBB is lots of fun.  Patty Wortham is energetic and inspiring, and has great taste in music.  She makes that hour fly by!

I do, however, have two issues with Swerve.  $16 for an hour long class?  Kind of rough on the wallet.  Sure, there are packages (that expire) with discounts, but they're so slight I hardly even notice.  Also, why are their most interesting classes held during the middle of the day, while I'm working?  Fail.

I first heard about this studio through their Yoga Booty Ballet videos. The two studio owners, Gillian and Teigh, are incredibly friendly and try to get to know all their students. YBB is great for those who hate exercise since it makes working out fun by combining dance cardio with body sculpting yoga and ballet. It will definitely work for those new to exercising, but for those who are more active or in good shape, it may not be challenging enough. You'll need to take their more advanced classes to feel like you got a good workout. Other pluses include a friendly staff and a room with equipment for those not wanting to do a class at the moment. A major minus is the lack of parking.

Meh. Feels sort of sloppy and disorganized.

Yoga Booty Ballet? Do I wear shoes for this class or don't I? I appreciate variety in my workout but WHAT is this? Oh, we're doing hip hop today? Now my bare feet are killing me. I wear shoes the next time and they don't make any sense for the exercises. I give up. I know it's little thing but it's difficult to work hard when some minor detail like your shoes (or lack there of) is making you uncomfortable. Yoga Booty Ballet: Decide what you are.

This is basically just aerobic dance... with some stretching thrown in... and maybe some butt exercises. None of these things really flow together. They're just there.

So.... meh. Head down the street a few blocks to the Bar Method and really get some bang for your buck.

I bought the 3 class pkg from Groupon so I decided to try it out.  They make it seem like you have to pre-register for classes, but you actually don't.  On top of that, you have to cancel 24hours in advance.  Well, most of the times when I need to cancel something, it's due to last minute changes.  They still deducted a class credit even though I didn't need to pre-register in the first place and no one pointed that out.  Shady. So I'll pass on coming back.  There are much better options in Los Angeles (Your Neighborhood Studio, for example =D ). Ciao Swerve.

The one ballet class I took with Mike was good though.

    Also, parking is horrrrrrible.

I signed up for the month Unlimited package. I must say that until today, my experience has been phenomenal and would have been deserving of 5 stars but Today's experience left a bitter taste in my mouth, hence, the rate declined by 3 stars. I really enjoy the circuit training sessions so I showed up today for Teri's class only to be greeted by her 10 minutes before the class as she informed me of their cancellation policy. This was the first time I had heard of their cancellation policy which (according to Teri) yields that if there are less than 3 people at a class, then the class will be canceled. I was told that my option was to attend the Bhangra Beats class (which although Achinta is fabulous can really take a toll on your knees). Since I was already at the place, spent time driving I felt like I wasn't given much of a choice. I strongly encourage Swerve to review this cancellation policy because it is not the fault of the participant if others don't show up. The class should still proceed even if there is 1 participant because that participant has paid for the class, took the time out of the day to come to the facility and paid for parking. Additionally, the classes are solo experiences, the instructor for the circuit training is doing the same thing for 1 student that she/he does for 10.  I do plan on paying for 1 more month because I did have good experiences previously. I hope that in another month I can give a 5 star rating. Stay tuned.

I love the ladies at Swerve.  I was extremely nervous about attending dance classes as I am terrible at picking up dance steps, and I hadn't really exercised in years, apart from going clubbing once every few weeks.  I basically went from couch potato to Yoga Booty Ballet 3-4 times a week, it's that addictive and the ladies at Swerve are so great.  I received nothing but love and support and encouragement right from the start.  If you have trouble picking up dance steps like I do, I recommend checking out one of Patty or Teigh's Yoga Booty Ballet classes.  Their classes are really fun and, most importantly for me, are easier to follow than those of some other instructors.  Try standing in the second or third row off to the side so you get a better view of the instructors.  If you have difficulty like I do, you can feel lost in the back row.  Also, if you have any questions or doubts, the ladies at the front desk are super helpful and friendly.  I have called and quizzed them multiple times on a variety of topics and they are patient and kind.  I tried a couple other classes at Swerve (and there are many to choose from), but Yoga Booty Ballet is my favorite.  It is SO much fun.

Yes, the studio is small, but that's part of the appeal, in my opinion.  I'm not into the whole gym thing.  There's a really intimate, loving vibe at Swerve and I appreciate that.  Crowded classes can sometimes be a pain, but it's never been so bad I didn't have a great time.  The parking lot is tiny, but there is mostly unrestricted parking south of 4th street on Sweetzer, or totally unrestricted parking on Colgate, which is just three blocks south of 3rd.  Just READ the parking signs!  Trust me when I tell you it is NOT a big deal to walk a few blocks to class.  I've done it many times, and it is even refreshing and clears the mind a bit between the drive and the class.

I noticed that one of the Yelpers complained about a beginner level ballet class on the weekend not actually being beginner level.  It's an intermediate ballet class and clearly says so on the schedule.  I've been going to Swerve since the end of April and, believe me, if there had been a beginner level ballet class on the weekend, I would have been there.  If you are a beginner and attending a class marked levels 1-3, you should be fine.  Swerve is non-competitive and, as Patty always says, "Dance like you're alone in your bedroom.  Or drunk at a wedding."  :)  Unfortunately, I have a knee condition (which I didn't know about until a couple months into working out regularly, and which was ***NOT*** an injury from classes at Swerve), so that has seriously derailed my dancing.  I miss you, Swerve!  Thanks for the love and for helping me get started on getting back into shape.

Are you a goddess?  Work out at Swerve and you'll feel like one.  Positive, smart, fun, and grueling classes abound here: yoga, rock n' roll pilates, and their signature Yoga Booty Ballet.  All to great music, with great gals (and a few hardy guys), and in a groovy atmosphere.  They also  have great personal trainers and sell fun clothes.  Your booty never looked so hot!

I bought the groupon for this place and tried out the weekend beginning ballet class.

First of all, it was hardly beginning.  The instructor would call out things like "start in 5th" or "then you pot a barret..."(sp?) and I didn't really know what that stuff meant.

The thing that really drove me nuts though was that the instructor spent more time lecturing than he did teaching.  He talked about performance nerves, he talked about how important it was to be on time, he talked about what they music made him feel....talked and talked and talked.  And then ended the class 15 minutes late because of it.

It wasn't a great workout as I had no idea what was going on for most of it.  The other students were about 50% normal 20-somethings while the other 50% seemed a little "off."

The studio is tiny, parking is hard, and there is no air conditioning.  You're also dancing in the window of the second floor of this shopping center so if you're shy, beware.  I didn't use the gym but I've never seen a gym so small before.

I would stay away from this place.  There are lots of other dance studios in LA.  I recommend Dance Arts Academy on La Brea.

There are definitley pros and cons to this fitness dancing center. I have to admit the pricing is on the high side. $16 per class or $120 a month (with a 6 month commitment)...soo it does add up. They are known for their most popular and packed class, Yoga Booty Ballet (even the same is fun to say)The classes are definitley fun and high energy. Teachers are so freakin awesome how can you not attend these classes. Awesome music with various dance movement you will end up sweating. A major problem is once you "commit/ sign a contract" for a 6 months membership you have this obligation of getting your moneys worth. It is hard to find a class that fits in your schedule, especially if you have your everyday 9-5 job...OR you will end up taking the same class over and over again. If you're looking to lose weight I don't think this is the place because of the same dance movements. I feel as if this studio is there for good energy and fun. Once joined keep an eye on which classes get packed then you can allow yourself to come early.

I heart Rachel's YBB classes...I became an expert booty shaker with her haha

They didn't honor the coupon they offered through Yoga Month, which is a bad way to start out with a new client.  I had checked the website and there weren't any exceptions listed, so I decided to check out a yoga booty ballet class for the first time.  When I got there, I found out that because they didn't consider it a yoga class they didn't honor their coupon for that class. It was described on their website as having  5 elements: meditation,  dance, ballet, kundalini yoga, hatha yoga,.  So I figured it had a significant portion of mediation/yoga.  I was wrong.

It was a bummer they didn't honor the offer because you can only try one studio with the yoga month offer and I wasted my coupon with Swerve. It's also misleading because the word "yoga" is the first thing in the title.

Luckily, the instructor of the class was quite good and the class was fun.  However, it was a dance class first and foremost with very little yoga. Because I arrived thinking it was yoga-ish I didn't wear sneakers- and although they weren't required, most people did wear them (and I wish I had).

I'm not sure that I will go back to swerve.  Although the quality of the class was high, my overall experience wasn't that good. Apart from the fact they didn't follow through with the yoga month promotion, the parking is tough, the studio floor wasn't swept before my class- so the floor was kinda icky, and it's pretty expensive ($17 per class) when there are studios with nicer facilities at the same price point.

Swerve is amazing.  I might be a little biased, as I work here, but it truly is a wonderful place for working out, meeting friends, and having fun.  All of the instructors are truly gifted, and the staff is wonderful too. Many of the instructors are Lululemon Ambassadors and all are well-known in the fitness and dance world.  Be sure to take classes with Gillian and Teigh, the owners of Swerve.  Parking can be tough sometimes, but get to class early and you shouldn't have a problem.  Try a class... you will be hooked :)

Achinta kicked our butts in the Bollywood class.  It's a fun and cool way to learn something new and get a great workout.  She was a lot of fun. Swerve has a great vibe to it too. The reason for four stars is that the parking sucks.

I LOVE this place!!!! I have been working out at swerve for three years now.. Great classes with amazing instructors and a positive atmosphere. Each class has it's own flavor. The energy of the studio is supportive, encouraging and non competitive. Yoga Booty Ballet with Gillian & Teigh rock my world... and with live drumming!! Gillian will also kick your but with her Tone Class. Kim's Word Beat Workout and Lauren's Soul Dancing will leave you feeling fit and blissed out. And I have to mention Achinta's Bollywood Class.. so much fun and a great workout! Go get your Swerve on!!! You will see and feel the results immediately.

This is really more of a review of Yoga Booty Ballet than Swerve itself and I must preface with the fact that my first session was last night. I feel like I have heard wonderful things about YBB for years and was so excited to finally give it a try! I have to say though, for the most part I was disappointed. The pros: Kim is very high energy and accepting, she makes you feel right at home. The live drumming was also a real treat! The cons: I didn't feel like I was getting a very different experience than I would in any other aerobics or cardio dance class - the "yoga" and "ballet" part of the equation aren't nearly emphasized enough in my opinion. I see why people are fans of Swerve but as for being a true hybrid of yoga, ballet and booty-shaking dance, I think YBB under-delivers.

Hey there Angelino's, listen up~ Swerve is the best deal in town for all your fitness needs and spiritual snacks. Swerve Fitness Dance Yoga offers classes that range from  Yoga Booty Ballet all the way to Kundalini Yoga and Meditation.  My favorite is the kundalini class because its all about connecting to your infinite self-- the soul.  The instructor Harnam does some cool meditations any "body" can do anytime. She offers practical tools everybody can use at home like  centering your mind so you can deal effectively with conflict or simply get better sleep. Check out Swerve, its a gem located in the center of Los Angeles convenient to The Grove and Beverly Center. Your life will positively be forever changed. xoox

Swerve is the first exercise studio that made me look forward to working out. So much so that  I drove to Swerve from the Valley every Saturday for 4 years because I could only get to YBB on Saturdays! No more boring machines and classes. It's the workout that doesn't feel like a workout because it's fun!  And you will sweat! Yoga Booty Ballet is for people who love to dance to great music including a live drummer, World Beat adds that extra Latin flair. Patty makes Circuit training hilarious. Gillian and Teigh have created a community that not only builds bodies, it builds friendships. And all the teachers bring their own personal style to each class and do it all with a sense of humor! From Swerve I've learned to listen to my body, pace myself when I need to, push myself  when I can and best of all HAVE FUN!
Allow yourself enough time to park up the street because the parking lot tends to fill up.

I love this place.  I started working out here after a long hiatus.  The teachers are all welcoming and supportive. The atmosphere is laid-back and non-competitive.  The classes are interesting, creativeand fun.  Some have live drummers. Practically all that I have taken have great play-lists. The teachers are experienced and take pride in their classes. I get in such a great zone as far as pushing myself to the most I can do and not feeling forced to. It's just a really motivating environment.  The studio is fairly simple, not perfectly spic and span clean all the time. It definitely feels more like a Dance studio than a glitzy LA gym, even though if you attend a lot you will spend as much..but for me, it's just so much more enjoyable.  There are some men, but it is predominantly women.  Classes sometimes get a little more full than is ideal, parking is tough, but it's all good. It's just a wonderful place and I am thankful I checked it out b/c it has brought me back to working out consistently 5x / wk b/c I love it and I feel healthy.

I started going to Swerve 9 years ago (?!?!?!??!) and immediately fell in love. The studio is an open and friendly environment - I've made fantastic friends here - and the instructors are all inspirations to me.
Gillian and Teigh, the owners, are goddesses supreme and make it a point to learn everyone's name - yes EVERYONE - which makes Swerve so much more a community than just a studio. Their Yoga Booty Ballet class is my favorite! G&T and all the other YBB teachers open hearts and minds with meditation before they make you sweat your ass off by shaking it! Choreography ranges from super easy to more challenging- the schedule has class levels - but even the challenging stuff is broken down so you can learn it after a few classes.
Any class Kim Blank teaches is better than fun and you've never seen anyone move as beautifully whether we're doing salsa, funk, or anything else in the spectrum.
Kim Director teaches a women's only sculpt/pilates class that's both nurturing and grueling!
Swerve also has meditation classes throughout the week to really explore the spirit. I was really intimidated by meditation, and Swerve's comfortable environment was the perfect setting for me to finally try it- and get hooked on it.
Yes, parking blows, but if you get to know the neighborhood it gets lots easier. (2 blocks S of Swerve on Sweetzer, you can park all day on Saturdays! So you can have your YBB class and your brunch at Jones, too! )
And yes, there are a limited number of men secure enough to come take YBB and other Booty-named classes (Booty Kickin' Sculpt...OMG the most challenging sculpt class ever, but Gillian unearths that muscle tone you never thought you'd see. Plus usually some pretty fun discussions happen in that class too - everything from eating habits to sensuality to philosophy!) - if that's a pro or con is totally up to you, but seriously any guy who's tries this place would be the smartest guy in LA. To be surrounded by women? Uh, yeah, guys.
In the interest of full disclosure, I'm now an instructor there. Whether that renders my review void or biased is up to you, but I was a student and customer for 7 YEARS before I was lucky enough to get on the Swerve schedule. In fact, it was Swerve, YBB and G&T that inspired me to become a teacher!
The place is awesome, pure and simple.

Been a happy member here since February and are totally loyal to stay for a while.   I am not a work-out person, I hate gym, but Swerve is different.  People are friendly, instructors are awesome, it's like going to do something fun with your friends.  The classes are intense which does the purpose of fitness.  I love yoga booty ballet; Patty, Gillian, and Lauren are my favorite.  They all have their own unique style and I've gone to different one depends on my mood.  Jesse who teaches Rock n' Roll Pilates is amazing.  I called it the ah-ye-ye-ye Pilates because I love to listen to contemporary hip-pop when working my *ss off.  Achinta who teaches bollywood is awesome. I always have so much fun in such a great routine.  If you are not a gym person but needs some workout definitely try this place out.  They also have lots of different socials you can go to get a feeling of people before joining it.
