Best cupcakes in town! Try the Red Velvet, Black & White and Bugsby (Carrot Cake). The cupcakes here are cheaper than what you would find at Kara's or Sprinkles, and the cupcakes here are definitely comparable. No long waits or long commutes. Friendly staff also!

I had a major sweet tooth and ended up here on a Sunday evening due to Schuberts Bakery being closed at 5PM *sadface*
I cant really say much for the cupcakes since i didnt buy one today, but i did purchase 2 slices of cake- i ate the chocolate cheesecake which was alright and i have another chocolate slice still in my refrigerator. It really wasnt anything too exciting.
I was also craving for cookies and when i came to Sweet Things this evening I was speechless- their prices for cookies are ridiculous...$1.00 each for a small piece of cookie? must be kidding me. I can get an entire box at Schuberts for less than 10 bucks with more than 2 dozen AND the cookies are the same size and it's fresh...what a rip off.

Picked up an assortment of minis for the birthday girl. At $1 a pop, these tasty morsels are worth every penny! We got Bugsy (carrot cake, duh), black and whites (chocolate cake with white frosting), and fudge (chocolate cake, chocolate frosting).
I didn't think any of them were dry, and they went over like gangbusters around the dinner table.
Yeah, I said gangbusters.

Is it just this part of town or are there strollers and mommies always stopping RIGHT in front of where you need to go?! In this case, these wonderful new mommies were busy bragging about how intelligent their respective 2 month olds were RIGHT in front of the freakin' counterperson. Shoot, I'm just trying to get a red velvet cupcake so move your asses outta the way and discuss your gifted children in front of Gymboree or something!!! So, I digress. The red velvet cupcake was amazing, so moist, with the perfect amount of frosting. I rationalize that I walk all the way up to Laurel Heights to get this cupcake, and that's my exercise. That makes sense, right?
Some of the best cupcakes in town! Not too much sugar, butter cream, moist. Try the snowcaps
Plus, the staff is patient, because people don't always make up their minds quickly when faced with so much pastry
I haven't been here yet but I did receive a red velvet cupcake from here from the sweet Juliane N.
The cupcake was actually Steven T's but I accidentally ate it because I thought the cupcake was mine and his was in the fridge. SORRY! lol
The cupcake was really good but the cake itself was a little dry. Maybe because it was left in the car for a while in the hot weather but it was still good. The cheese frosting was so yummmmmmmmmy but I know that thing is full of fatty calories. The frosting also came with shredded chocolate and a little chocolate heart. Really cute unique! =D

Mmm....what a way to boost your energy with some afternoon sugar rush from Sweet Things. Their cupcakes are pricy but they're delicious. I love the carrot cupcake. The icing isn't too heavy and the cake is light and moist. The chocolate fudge one is unbeatable. I'm a bit disappointed with the red velvet but maybe I got it at the end of the day. Either way, you can't go wrong with them!

Great save Sweet Things. We were responsible for dessert at the dinner party we were running late to yesterday. I remembered seeing desserts at the front of CalMart. I thought we could stop here first and then at Mollie Stones if there was nothing here - on our way across the Bay. We got an assortment of mini cakes that were a huge hit! Mine was a little dry, but I think it was the only one since everyone else raved about them. I will definitely keep Sweet Things in mind next time.

What's better than cupcakes?? Mini cupcakes of course. Tried their mini-cupcakes and they were oh so delicious. Melt in your mouth sweetness. The proportion of the cream and cake was just perfect. I ate it all in one bite. My friend was quite impressed.
Def. will be back for more and to try their other items.

Collective review from UCSF LH group. We must say, we thoroughly enjoy the tasty treats: chocolate fudge cupcakes, lemon cupcakes, carrot cake, black and white cupcakes, pink caps, bug bites, rocky road cookies... just to name a few.
So I find myself sitting in the passenger side and arriving parked on front of a grocery store. Juliane makes a statement of how she found parking right in front of the bakery that has as quoted by *cough* "Bomb ass Red Velvet cupcake! Oh my fucken God. I've never had a Red Velvet like this before. Moist and delicious. The cream cheese frosting was just right. Not too over whelming with sweetness. I LOVED it! I wish I had 3." In my mind I'm thinking that we are going to a bakery, but yet here we are parked on front of a super market; are we going shopping!? Then she informs my dumb ass as I finally see on the door of the grocery store that the bakery is in fact inside the store. So as we walk in I can't help but think perhaps it is not the best to mix the smell of raw meat with that of sweet sensations. Yes, the bakery is joined with the meat department??? Weird? I think so, haha.
My review is a bit skewed and will most likely be updated once I try it again. I bought one of these oh so delicious bomb ass red velvet cupcakes. First, I would like to admit that it was sitting in the car for a bit, but not that long. Second, Tracy also had a cupcake, but it was subjected to more car heat and refrigeration than mine. Third, SOMEBODY decided to eat MY cupcake and leave me theirs instead. Point of the story being... that I had eaten the cupcake that was tampered with the most. This leads me to think that possibly the cupcake would have tasted better than what I experienced. The cupcake was a tad dry and the frosting tasted a little off. The frosting was good, but something just was not right about it. Although it was quite light and airy, the frosting had a rich thick flavor that stood out. Also, for some reason they did not put any red velvets out on display. We had to ask the lady behind the counter for them and she took them out of some trays sitting on the back shelf. I will be back, oh yes, I will be back.
EDIT: So apparently they might have had some on display. I still dont believe they did!!! my picture clearly shows a big empty spot!
well maybe they did uhhh

Someone here said the cakes were dry?! The cupcakes I got (Red Velvet, Black & White, Chocolate Fudge) were the moistest cakes I've ever tasted! Sure, they're LOADED with butter & sugar but who cares! Might as well eat the good stuff once you decide to eat a cupcake! Frosting was a bit overwhelming, though. Each cupcake had a thick layer and it made the cupcake really sweet. However, armed with my glass of milk, I forgot about it pretty quickly.
I have to say, they didn't look as pretty as other cupcake stores such as Kara's or Teacake in Emeryville so they may not make the best gifts. They put my 3 cupcakes on a paper plate, covered them with saran wrap, and placed them in a nice box.
The prices were reasonable. Each of my cupcakes were $2.25 and I saw mini ones for ~$1. Good prices for cupcakes these days, sadly.
If you're planning to go, don't go looking for it on California in your car. It's located inside the Cal-Mart.
I bought a birthday cake for my fiance's birthday and can't rave about the Carrot Cake for 40 people. I have never seen every person have a piece of cake at a party and it was unanimous, it was the best carrot cake we've ever had. Normally, I wouldn't even do anythign outside of chocolate, but when I kept seeing the works "carrot cake" come up on Yelp, I now am so glad I decided to go for it. The icing wasn't even icing, it was cream cheese heaven. Great job! The service was excellent and it was there waiting for me when I went to pick it up. If you need candles or other birthday accessories, the Ace 5 & 10 next door had everything including candles with the age and gift wrap as well.

This might be the best thing in the Laurel Village Shopping Center.
I'm a cake girl through and through.
I love the cupcakes here.
I love the cake here. (The past few birthday cakes for myself were the black tie cake, super delicious!)
I found the red velvet to be the most disappointing flavor to date. Too dry.
Oh, the "Millionaire Shortbread" is ridiculous. It's shortbread and caramel and macadamia nut... mmmm.
Now, if only they had better coffee and maybe little cartons of milk for sale so I wouldn't have to go through the Cal-Mart madness for the latter or Peet's for the former in the neighborhood. I guess I can't have it all.
***NEWS FLASH***. The cupcake-o-phile has found her new favorite cupcake place! Who'd have thunk that such a delightful source of cupcakes could possibly be found within the Cal-Mart? :)
I bought two full size cupcakes (the buttercup - vanilla cake w/ chocolate icing, and carrot cupcake) and 4 mini cupcakes (fudge, black n' white, white cake/white frosting). Verdict? The cake on each and every one of these was moist and flavorful, the frostings were fantastic - the perfect amount of sweetness. And from a value standpoint, they are priced just right - between $2-$2.50 for full size and $1 each for the mini cupcakes.
And the Sweet Things staff are really friendly. I had accidentally ordered too many cupcakes, and they were quite accomodating when I had to change the order.
The cupcakes are WONDERFUL! My friend declared "These are some of the best cupcakes I've ever had!" I can't wait to come back!!!

I don't understand why this place got 4.5 stars. I'm usually not a reviewer because I don't have time to write a review. But, in this case, I decide to leave my feedback. This yelp site is not any more trustworthy. This rating system should be improved.
Anyway, i bought a cake a couple weeks ago and that was a total disappointment to me. Tasted too sweet. You'd rather eat a bucket of sugar. That'd be much better.
OHHHH NO.
how could it be 4.5 stars???? i don't understand!
so this place is inside the calfoods grocery store... right when you walk in it is on the lefthand side.
so i read the reviews on yelp and got somewhat excited. had i found another cupcake place other than Kara's that was worthy of going to? Plus, it was a friend's bday and wanted to pick some up for the bday kid.
so... about the cupcakes. not impressive at all. i got one that tasted like poundcake with frosting on top. the only ones i remember that were decent are the black and white and the red velvet cupcaker. those were alright. but i think the thing i don't like about them is that the frosting on the tops of them are thick and very, very sweet. they kinda make it tacky too when you buy (esp. cause i was giving it to someone for a bday) because they put saran wrap to cover them before they put it in the box.
I won't be coming here anytime soon. sorry sweet things.
So I know I shouldn't be YELPing at work but I just HAD to.
I came here before I went to work just so I can get some sweets for the day. I needed it bad. Parking couldn't be more perfect. I got parking right outside! SCORE!
It was my first time going to Cal Mart so I wasn't sure where the bakery was located at. It was right when you walk in. Another SCORE because I'm such a lazy pig, I just don't wanna walk around the grocery market.
I saw LOTS of baked goodies and was super happy with what I was looking at. I was greeted with the lovely ladies behind the counters with a smile. Shows good customer service!
I didn't know what to choose so I stood there for awhile and giving myself a headache from trying to think of what to get. I just went to just a couple cupcakes.
I had the
Red Velvet ($2.25): Bomb ass Red Velvet cupcake! Oh my fucken God. I've never had a Red Velvet like this before. Moist and delicious. The cream cheese frosting was just right. Not too over whelming with sweetness. I LOVED it! I wish I had 3.
Mini version Bugsy Cupcake (Carrot Cupcake): Cream cheese frosting was the same as the one on Red Velvet so of course it was the bomb. Cake itself was OK. I wasn't too OMG about it.
Mini version Black and White: Chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. Also just OK.
Mini Version Fudge Chocolate: Chocolaty!
Mini Version Butter Cake: Yummy butter cake cupcake with vanilla frosting.
Mini Cupcakes are $1.00 each
OMG 4 fucken cupcakes in a day! I feel like I've gained about 10lbs with ***Gary Danko*** in my schedule for dinner tomorrow, damn I have to go hit the gym.
Price is really reasonable compared to a lot of bakeries in the city. I will definitely be back for the cookies!!

I've passed by Sweet Things many times, glancing at their pastry cases. The cakes are usually misshapen and they're wrapped in plastic. They looked homemade in a charming, old-fashioned, imperfect way rather than made by a trained pastry chef. Their pastries are good in that same sense - not fancy but good in that down to earth, grandma made it kind of way. The nice thing about their cakes is that you can buy them buy the slice, half the cake, or the whole cake. They have a good variety of frosted cakes (and buche de noel for Christmas) as well as cheesecakes.
They have a few cupcake varieties. I tried the mini cupcakes ($1.10 each) and they are tiny one bite sized moist morsels. I had the chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. The vanilla frosting was particularly nice; it tasted like vanilla and soft buttercream.
The cookies can be on the expensive side ($2 - $4 each). I had the gingerbread trees and they were good but could have used a stronger ginger/spice flavor.
They also have muffins, boxed chocolates from Moonstruck,Charles Chocolates, Michel Cluziel and others, MarieBelle hot chocolate and baked treats for your dog. They cram quite a bit into their little space inside Cal-Mart.

I have been going to the one in Tiburon all my life. The cookies with icing are bomb. The carrot cake was bomb.. and as I stated in other reviews. The cupcakes are HELLA good.
Heard about this place on yelp for their cupcakes. It did not disappoint. It was oh so good. The cake is moist and fluffy and the icing not too sweet. I did not know this place was in the Cal mart. The cupcakes are better than Kara's. Now, the cupcake quest continues in LA. Next stop Crumbs.
My cuz Marie introduced me to my new best friend, Tres Leches Cake. OMG, this cake is crap-in-your-pants good! Other tres leches cakes I have tried are mushy, runny, literally crap-in-your-pants too wet. But Sweet Things Tres Leches Cake is wonderfully moist yet not soaking wet in milk. It's also topped with coconut flakes which makes it sweet but not too sweet. Can't wait to try their other cakes!

Sweet Things decided to put all the sweetest things in my life and somehow put it all together in the form of a cupcake. A moist cupcake with the sweetest frosting I've ever had. Their cookies are also a delicious little snack delivered straight from heaven OMGosh it was so delicious I found myself crabbing more samples of the cookies than I thought I would. I walked in to Sweet Things without a plan in my head and walked out with a dozen cupcakes and a mouthful of cookie samples. The street parking sucks but if you happen to see someone pull out it'll be the luckiest day of your life!

I would have expected higher prices for being in the Laurel Village area, but everything was priced like any other bakery. The cupcakes were just okay - a bit on the sweeter side than other cupcake specialists in the city. The carrot cupcake was my favorite, and the black and white cupcake was another one I liked. Their red velvet was a disappointment - It tasted like the carrot cupcake. Cupcake costed about $2.something, mini cupcakes were $1 each (my favorite), random cookies were around the dollar range... I just wished they baked stuff daily - the stuff they had laying in their display today was the exact same stuff from yesterday - but it all still tasted good.
JONASAPPROVED!

forget those gourmet cupcake places, SWEET THINGS is the place to go.
i have been going there for years, way before those other places became the trend. their red velvet CC rocks! its perfect! and when they are out of them they have the while cake option! they have cookies for all the holidays, so if you're looking for a treat, small gift or entertaining item this is the place you'll find it.
The first time I purchased some fabulous goodies at Sweet Things, I was put off by the fact that you have to pay for your purchase right there, you can't carry it around while you shop at Cal Mart. Then I came back a second time and got over it.
The hombre and I had a fab dinner last night that ended with...a slice of the blue boy pie. I whipped up some creme fraiche with vanilla, candied some lemon peel and dumped all that good stuff on top of the warmed slices. Holy tantalized taste buds, batman. Hombre and I both declared this the best piece of pie ever, and as native midwesterners, we know what we're talking about ;).
Go bananas at Sweet Things, but you damn well better save me a few slices of that pie.
Dry wit, good. Dry cake, bad. Sweet Things pricey made to order dry cake, sad sad sad.

The counter of Sweet Things is not very big, but the cupcakes at Sweet Things are amazing! I bought 3 red velvets and 4 mini cupcakes. They look so cute, and they are so delicious! The cake is very moist. The sweetness of the frosting is just right. I had the mini carrot cupcake and the mini chocolate fudge cupcake, and boy--I want more after I finished them. The servers were really nice, and the sticker on the box is very cute. The pricing is pretty decent.
per a friend's suggestion, i got a black tie cake for a birthday party on sat night. the cake is massive and is densely packed w/ chocolate cake and white chocolate mousse. everyone kept commenting on how moist and yummy the cake was. i highly recommend getting bday cakes here if you ever have to feed a large crowd.

I like different textures and flavors in my mouth so for the most part I can't eat just a piece of bread without the butter, and I can't eat a carrot without a dip, or a cracker without it's cheese.. get my drift? So in my mind, I knew I wasn't going to be blown away with a plain cheesecake without a crust, right? WRONG. It is to die for! Their cheesecake has to be the best plain cheesecake I've ever had. Velvety smooth and melts in your mouth. This makes me wonder what other goodies i'm missing out on and need to try asap.
In the words of Chaka Khan, "Whoa whoa sweet thing. Don't you know you're my everything.." =)
The cupcakes were great, the service by the beautiful girl was awesome. She made it very easy to order for someone who's there for the first time after reading how good this place is. Will surely be back to try the rest of the sweets...
In this age where tiny cupcakes command prices of $3-$4, Sweet Things provides some sanity. They serve moist cupcakes with perfect frosting, reasonably priced between $2.10-$2.25. On top of that, they sell Mariage Freres tea and jam. I can think of no better place to pick up an assortment of treats for a quick, DIY afternoon tea.

The carrot cupcake --- is like crack! It is orgasmicly delicious!!!! I don't know what it is --- could it be the super moist, delectably goodness of the cake? Or the yummy cream cheese frosting that I can't stop tasting with my finger? The cupcake isn't too sweet and rich......it was just perfect! Head on over to Sweet Things located inside Cal-Mart and buy some treats from heaven!

All the Halloween goodies are out..spiced pumpkin cupcakes, ghoul cookies and OMG! Red Velvet cupcakes...thank you so much! I thought it would have more cupcake selection but only a select few since they're gearing more towards seasonal baked goods.
The free parking here is pretty good. It gets worse in the lot as it heads towards 12-3 but otherwise the other times are good for a quick grab and go.

My friend Sarah took me here as a total surprise for a late birthday treat!! I was overcome with happiness, but sadly I had declared my new rule of having desert once a week, but she told me to splurge! WTF man?!
Nehoo I tried the Carrot Cake, Red Velvet, and their Black & White (Chocolate cake with Vanilla frosting)...Took a sample bite from the red velvet, it was DIVINE!! Soooo moist and the frosting wasn't overly sweet. But OMG the Carrot Cake was AHHHHH!!!! SOOO good! I got sad that I finished it and wanted to eat my friend's cupcake lolz...But I'm good, she can have it. unless she doesn't, then I'm all over that!
Nehoo I'm not a hardcore frosting fanatic, but this one had just enough frosting...That i looked every last bit of frosting that was on the wrapper and my fingers!
This place is way better than Kara's Cupcakes..though we had some trouble finding it...Walking up and down the block until we called and realized it was INSIDE the Cal-Mart. The girl was really nice too and they had a bunch of other goodies and treats!
I will be back for more carrot cake cupcakes! YUM!!
Cupcakes were $2.25 and they had mini bites (lil cupcakes) for $1! Good price for average size cupcakes. Now they just need to make a banana flavor and i'll be set!

Oh my, my, my. What does Sweet Things make that isn't heavenly?!
I love the single bite cupcakes, and the iced sugar cookies are always beautifully decorated and as tasty as they are pretty.
I succumb to temptation every time I walk into Cal-Mart, and I make it my go-to spot for desserts for special occasions... oh who am I kidding, for ANY occasion!
I'm only the second biggest fan of Sweet Things. Maybe the third (my kid's girlfriend dreams about the mini cheesecakes). On any given day, the under-three-feet-tall crowd probably beats me to first.*
Everything here is delicious because they nail the details, from the Tres Leches cake to the fleur de sel cookies. I get the feeling that nothing is overlooked -- down to the color of the frosting on the cookies and cupcakes. And real? Everything. Taste the buttercream, you'll see. Abandon diet, all ye who enter here ...
* I'd give these people five stars if I could get my head out of the Eighties and just accept that a cupcake made out of real stuff costs two dollars. In MY day ...

This is my stop on the way to or from work! The prices are reasonable and it's so nice to have parking if you're stopping by. It's hard to choose from the huge selection, but these are my top picks:
-- carrot cake, sold by slice or whole
-- black magic cake
-- black & white cupcake
-- bug bite cupcake
-- rocky road cookie
-- spicy jalapeno biscuit/scone
If you haven't been yet, stop by soon!
Wow, the carrot cake is awesome and the icing is so addicting, it's bound to give you a heart attack! That is all I was able to try on my first trip to this bakery but I will be back for more.
Update: We came back here to pick up a sinfully delicious carrot cake for a bday and some other treats for ourselves. We had the red velvet cupcake which was moist and topped with a wonderfully sweet and creamy frosting. Like butta...carrot cake is still the best ever though!
