Sweet is a tiny little shop and the case with the desserts looks limited. Even though they tried to decorate and soften the place, it still had a cold feeling especially since nothing is actually baked there. I asked about what one of the cakes tasted like but the sales guy  didn't know much about the sweets they sold.

They sell mini cupcakes for $2 but I really enjoyed them. The frosting is the hightlight! I got the peanut butter and chocolate cupcake and the peanut butter cream was so good, not too thick but very peanut buttery. And the red velvet cupcake had frosting that tasted like custard.

I wish they wouldn't put the to-go cupcakes into bags though. It totally ruins the look! The Mexican tart however came in its own box. It's filling is chocolate infused with cinnamon and embraced by a buttery flaky crust. I couldn't stop eating it but I wanted to save a bit for the next day. Two days longer (since I forgot I had it) it was still as delicious as ever.

Requests:
-Please be more knowledgable of the desserts.
-Variety! The case should be stocked with goodies!
-Make the place more welcoming.

This is a cute store located off the main drag in the Castro. There's a variety of small pasteries and baked goods, but what attracted me were the cupcakes! They only sell miniature cupcakes, which could either be good or bad ;) When I visited, they had chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, and pumpkin varieties.

I tried the vanilla/vanilla, which is my standard for sampling cupcakes. The cake itself wasn't as flavorful as I like my vanilla cupcake. It was borderline flavorless. It really needed more vanilla extract/bean. The frosting was a vanilla buttercream, which was quite airy and slightly gritty. However, the vanilla flavor was stronger and better.

I'm not sure how I feel about them "dusting" the vanilla frosting with milk chocolate. If I wanted milk chocolate on my vanilla cupcake, I would have ordered a chocolate cupcake, no?

The packaging is cute; they wrap the cupcakes in a paper wrapper that is taped around the cupcake. It's much bigger than the cupcake, probably to better keep the cupcake intact!

My cupcake was exactly $2.03 cents (including tax), which I thought was reasonable.

A-OK cupcakes, but I've had better in San Fran.

This place is very tiny, but then so far the cupcakes, so maybe it's appropriate. I love this place and find it impossible not to stop in and grab a couple mini-cupcakes to snack on when I'm walking by. I especially love the red velvet and the honey lavender. The chocolate with cream filling, too! Would be five stars if the cost to cake ratio was a little better.

The woman working here was very nice, but two bucks for a cupcake the size of a silver dollar is ridiculous.  These are really small cupcakes!

The lemon meringue had only a thin layer of topping.  Very unimpressive.  Delessio does this much better.

The chocolate with white filling was good, but not one dollar per bite good.  It really is insane to pay prices like this.  It's like eating money.

Go a few doors down to Thorough Bread and you can get a big cookie for 75 cents.  That's right, two big cookies at Thorough Bread are less than you would pay for a tiny cupcake here.

There is nothing sweet about price gouging.

This is where the cupcake wave has crested, can we please move on to the next craze?

This is a tiny shop with almost nothing in the case. The cupcakes are literally bite sized and they cost about $2.00 to $2.50 including tax. The one I bought was just so-so.

Cupcakes has been a favorite of mine since I was a little kid. Every birthday moment in grammar school, my mom would bake me and my friends, birthday cupcakes. Of course, the teacher would not allow them to be eaten during lunch but after class. I'm sure you could guess why? Sugar + kids = Whack out craziness!

They were so delicious. I love unwrapping them and taking a bite of frosting and the cake itself. And sometimes, I would try to swallow them whole. ( Don't do this now, I don't want to be responsible for you choking) Then one year, my mom was sick, and my dad made Chinese food instead and brought them to class. Everyone was shock! What? No cupcakes, everyone was scared to touch the Chinese food, they had no clue what the wormy long string noodles were or the bean sprouts. No one dare touch them. It almost broke my dad's heart, but the fortune cookies saved it. They loved those!

You can't blame my dad for trying, my grandfather had a bean sprout / noodle farm and we were one of the few chinese people in Fresno yo. Ironically, all my friends loved my father's cooking in high school and beyond.

So last night, I've decided to go to my nearby cupcakery. I'd ordered the chocolate ganache and wasn't impressed, but I was glad they were still opened. I'm sure it was at the bottom of the barrel when I came in. It was a decent cupcake, nothing I thought was out of the box. I miss my mom's. =(

I gave this 4 stars because of the ambiance and the thought of my mother's cupcakes.

Thank you for reading and please help me find the perfect cupcake!

Cupcakes and candy? I had to stop by Sweet to check it out. It's a tiny shop filled with glass cake pedestals and sweets. They have a limited selection of sweet treats, but they're all made in small batches by Sweet at their 6th St. location (their catering business is called Sweet Potatoes). They tend to run out of items as a result (e.g., they only had 3 of the 6 types of mini cupcakes left: root beer, coconut and peanut butter; someone bought all the red velvet, ginger lime and honey lavender).

The sample menu on their website mentions many more items than I actually saw. I asked about the tea popsicles which I saw on their website, but the girl who helped me had never heard of them. Hmm. They pull the cupcakes out the fridge...so I'm thinking the tea popsicles could fit in the freezer section one day.

During my visit I spotted three types of caramels (fleur de sel, Valencia orange, spice), mini cupcakes, small cakes, brownies, almond toffee, peanut brittle, caramel apples, 1 pie, and something that looked like a lemon bar. Items are labeled but no prices are displayed. A mini cupcake is $1.85. The toffee and/or caramels must be very expensive since 7 caramels, 1 small bag of toffee and one mini cupcake was $20.

* Peanut butter mini cupcake: I wanted to try ginger lime but they were out. They put the cupcake in a bag which isn't good packaging (I should have brought my cupcake holder). A pretty little cupcake, piled high with a rich, intensely peanut buttery soft (but not too soft) buttercream and a moist chocolate cake. Really good.
* Spice caramel: Excellent texture - not too soft but firm and very chewy. Buttery, rich, with a spicy flavor (cinnamon and cloves) vaguely reminiscent of gingerbread. Delicious.
* Fleur de sel caramel: Half the size of the other caramels for some reason, salty but buttery. It was okay but I don't like salt + caramel.
* Valencia orange caramel: Pleasant orange flavor which complemented the buttery caramel flavor, sweeter than the others
* Toasted almond toffee: Thin, almost delicate, on the edge of crispy and chewy, even the almonds are shaved paper thin, excellent

Pick up a frequent buyer cupcake card (buy 9 get 1 free).

I've seen Sweet many times and finally, one day, decided to stop in. To my delight, Sweet, is a store that sells mini cupcakes, caramels and brittle. I bought three cupcakes to try: a red velvet, chocolate with filling and chocolate without filling.

For the red velvet cupcake, the frosting was silky cream cheese with the right amount of sweetness. The cake was soft and tasty--and come to find out it's actually a devil's cake (not white cake) with obvious red food dye. It was very tasty. Mind you, this was the first time I'd ever tried a red velvet cupcake.

Then I tried half of the chocolate-filled chocolate cupcake. Again, the cake was moist, just the right hint of sweetness and the filling made it delicious. My final try was the chocolate cupcake. Although the cake was delicious, just like the cream-filled one, it was missing the cream fill (so something seemed to be missing).

The red-hair-dyed lady behind the counter was extremely friend offering recommendations on the various cupcakes and knowledge about the history of Sweet which use to be known for its rich caramels and not cupcakes. Over the years, the stores has morphed into a storefront specializing in cupcakes.

I've been back to Sweet twice and everyone that's tried these cupcakes have loved them. And I tried a spicy caramel finally and it was as tasty as its cupcakes.

Overall, I rank this a 4-star cupcake joint.

The best part about this small bakery is that nothing is ever loaded with so much sugar that it overpowers the intended flavor.

The honey lavender cupcake had a strong scent of lavender. The cake was a bit dry, but probably because the cupcake had to be refrigerated to harden the lavender buttercream frosting.

The peanut butter chocolate cupcake was just right.

Rocky road candy - rich which Belgium chocolate, and again, not too sweet.

The most interesting thing I had here was the Thai chili lime tart. It was a tart with a nice kick, but nothing too overwhelming.

Cupcakes are mini and are about $2 each after tax.
Thai chili lime tart is about $5 after tax. Other tarts range from $5-$10.

JONASAPPROVED!

I live in the neighborhood and was walking on church one day and pass what used to be a men's boutique and find that a yummy dessert shop has replaced it. I think it's probably the best thing to happen to church st in a while. Obviously I had to go in. Who wouldn't? Upon walking in, I'm greeted by the girl behind the counter who proceeds to tell me about the company and the desserts. I'm definitely having a major sweet tooth that day so I decide to get a red velvet mini cupcake and a bag of the spiced caramels and the girl working there even gave me a sample of the salted caramels. And all I have to say is OH MAN, their caramels are SO GOOD. The most amazing, delicious caramels i've ever had in my life. The red velvet cupcake was pretty good but the caramels took the cake.

Also, they apparently have a booth at the Castro farmers market where they sell caramel covered apples! I'm going to have to get to that market sometime because I have been dying to taste one of those.

I LOVE this place and everyone else I know loves it too.

Yummy mini cupcake for $1.85. Kinda pricey, no? They were also out of red velvet, so I got the chocolate ganache instead. Pretty tastey, but not for that price.

Also, they don't open until noon. Boo.

Their tiny little cupcakes are really delicious.  I think I paid $7.40 for two peanut butter ones and felt I got my money's worth.  Seems a fair price considering you'll probably only buy one or two at a time and this place needs to make rent.

I also wanted a cake for a party, but since the cakes in the case are pretty small, I asked if I could order one.  Remember when Just Desserts was on this block of Church St and you could get a beautiful cake at a price you'd expect to pay for a cake?  I sure miss that place.

The next day the store called to confirm the order:  one 12-inch coconut cake, no decoration.  Yes, that's right.  By the way, what's the price?  The store informed me that my total would be $125.

I couldn't believe it and canceled the order.  I apologized for failing to ask for the price at the time of the order, but there's no way I can be expected to believe that $125 is a reasonable price for an unadorned coconut cake that I could make at home for about $12.

I assumed this was a neighborhood cake shop.  Instead it seems to be some sort of elite boutique des gateaux.  The peanut butter cupcakes were good, but not *that* good!  Do they know there's a recession on?

I have been to sweet on a few occasions now. It's a bit too convenient seeing that it is around the corner from my boyfriend's place. I have tried all of the cupcake flavors that they offer.  My favorite is the red velvet , although in a close tie for second are root beer and chocolate peanut butter. All in all, it's worth a try and don't forget to get a cupcake punch card too!

I love the cupcakes here! I got the red velvet, peanut butter, chocolate ganache and coconut. All of them were really good. The cakes were moist and frosting tasty without being overly sweet. I made the mistake of keeping them in the fridge when I got home and the frosting got hard. But after leaving them in room temp for a little while, the frosting turned back to being creamy and luscious.

The fleur de sel caramel was also great. Love the bits of salt throughout.

Tall, cute cakes. Tall, cute cupcakes. Small, cute store.

My girlfriend and I stopped in and perused their sweets, and while there were few in total, the variety was quite nice. The girl working was very knowledgeable of her confections.

They are new to the neighborhood, show them some love and get a cupcake. Don't worry, they aren't heavy on the pocketbook and your belly. Just don't eat an entire cake to yourself.

I walked by this shop on my way to dinner tonight and thought it was pretty darn charming. Exposed brick, turquoise accents, and tiny as can be with sweets, cakes, and cookies lovingly wrapped on shelves and in a small display case--it was hard not to buy something.

There were samples of the caramel and marshmallow on top of the display case. I tried the spiced caramel and thought it tasted just like a caramel apple or chewy apple cider. I was a little disappointed that they were out of cupcakes, but it just means I'll have go back soon and give them a try.

So glad I stopped my stroll down Church to see them arranging adorable mini-cupcakes in the window display. I usually have the will to keep on walking, but those mini-cupcakes looked too appetizing.

The moment I stepped in the store I immediately got into an argument with my mind and stomach:
Mind: YOU NEED TO STOP BLOWING MONEY ON ALL THESE LITTLE TREATS FOR YOURSELF!
Stomach: It's only one itty bitty cupcake and it's under $2.
Mind: TURN AROUND!
Stomach: It's brand new and unknown. They need my business. Let's help this new small business survive the recession.
Mind: Okay okay.

Got a moist and flavorful mini red velvet cupcake topped with creamy yet firm cream cheese frosting. Hella good. Like hella hella good. Plus it's just the right size and price for an occasional pick-me-up without breaking the bank.

I'd first like to say I completely get what Elle P. is talking about. I would not enjoy eating brick hard frosting straight from the fridge either. Sounds awful but, I ask... why not wait until it gets to room temperature? Probably because it looks soooo delicious that it's hard to resist. :) Knowing it's not ready is kind of like heating up a frozen burrito part way and then complaining that it's still cold; not a fair assessment of the product. (let it be known that the quality of the delectable delights in this store are light years beyond that of frozen fast food)

That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of the cupcakes... the aroma of the pies... the spicy crunch of the brittle... the marsh-of-the-mallows... the every of the thing. My favorite quality of these magnificent morsels is that they are sweetened to perfection. By not overpowering them with sugar we're allowed to completely taste the blends of fresh fruits and ingredients that create a harmonious flavor experience. They are made for the adult palate but, enjoyed by young and old (my kids and I). Like Goldilocks and her porridge, I find them to be "just right."

You know, sometimes we can be quick to judge... hell, so can I! I in this case I judge these tantalizing treats worthy of my 5 stars and my "Sweet" adoration.

I was really disappointed with the mini red velvet cupcake that I bought here.

I should have known better than to buy one when the girl behind the counter pulled it out from a refrigerator. OUT OF A REFRIGERATOR. This meant that the frosting was inedible because it was brick hard, so I took it off and when I bit into the cupcake, the cake was totally dried out.

Thou shall not put cupcakes in refrigerators.

i absolutely loved the root beer cupcake i had from Sweet, and i'm pretty picky about store-bought cupcakes since i often make them myself. i'm looking forward to checking out their other offerings, especially the caramels, brittles, and popsicles! really cute space and decor, and i was impressed with the variety of goodies, all of them made with organic ingredients, and of inventive flavors.
