Somebody get the insulin pin... DIABETIC COMA!!!
OK so I consider myself a cupcake connoisseur!!! I just love 'em! I am a recent transplant from Atlanta and really love SWEET POCKETS and CAMI CAKES! I considered these two one of the better cupcake bakeries. I am adding SPRINKLES to complete the trinity! I usually gauge my synopsis from two flavors- RED VELVET AND CARROT CAKE! Everyone can't master these two cakes and these three have definitely done it. I really love sweet pocket because they offer the mini cakes which taste every bit as good as the regular ones; just less of the sugar rush. My favorite flavor at SWEET POCKETS is the COOKIES and CREME!!! OMG!
I do wish SPRINKLES would get rid of those hard tasteless decorations on top! -
Review from Tilia M.
I gotta say, I haven't experienced anything but yumminess every time I've visited. Just went a couple weeks ago for some birthday cupcakes for a friend, and picked up some happy monkeys and red velvets.
The monkeys were just the right amount of denseness and sweetness, and the red velvets were sooo moist, they were like, dissolving in our mouths.
My friend even said she likes these more than the famed Sprinkles out on the west coast.

Two stars for their two strengths: presentation and location.
The shop is located in a great area- you can walk over after a fun lunch at Figo, La Paz, or the Vinings Inn and get a sweet little dessert. The shop itself is adorable looking, and the staff is friendly and happy to help you make choices.
The cupcakes themselves are bad news. I've come here two times since they arrived in the neighborhood, and both times I spent about 7 bucks on two cupcakes that looked GORGEOUS, but were of a dry, unpleasantly sticky consistency, with greasy icing. The flavors were a bit off as well.
The Buckhead Betties seem to frequent Sweet Pockets (no ideas on how many of them actually EAT the cupcakes) so that's how I can guess they stay afloat.
I really wanted to love this place, and I'm open to giving it a third chance, just because I have an intense love for baked goods. -

The only reason this place gets two stars instead of the one I want to give them is the presentation of the cupcake is perfect! When you think of a cupcake you think of it looking exactly the way Sweet Pockets makes them... however, most people don't buy a cupcake to look at it they buy it to eat it so here is my review of their cupcakes.
BLECK! Got the red velvet because on their website it states come and try our red velvet people are saying it is the best they have ever had. Me thinks not! The icing was almost like a super watered down cream cheese icing. In fact I would have never known it was cream cheese icing had it not said so. I have had better frosting out of a Pillsbury container.
The cake part was super moist and fluffy but unbelievably dense. I have no idea how they make those cupcakes feel like you are you eating a brick when they feel so airy.
Being a cupcake connoisseur I will keep searching for the best cupcake in Atlanta and if I don't find one I will beg Georgetown Cupcake to set up shop down here.Listed in: Cupcakes cupcakes and more…

I made a quick stop by Sweet Pockets over the weekend. I was happy to see it was cute and neat on the inside. The mini cupcakes option is a great idea, it allowed me to sample more flavors. I ordered the happy monkey, cookies and cream, and red velvet.
The happy monkey had a unique flavor, i was happy with the overall taste and wished I ordered it in the normal size.
The cookies and cream flavor reminded me of an oreo. I love oreos!!!
The red velvet just didn't work for me, the icing was toooo sweet, I had to try it twice to determine if I was eating vanilla or cream cheese icing. After the second bite i concluded it was a very sweet cream cheese. The cake was OK not dry but not really moist. -

Sweet pockets is probably my favorite cupcake vendor around. That's saying a ton considering all of the cupcake boutiques that have been popping up around Atlanta in the past few years.
Lenny did my wedding favors- Cupcakes of course- and boxed them beautifully. I enjoyed a box with my hubby on our carriage ride out of Rhodes Hall.
Try these flavors-
cookies and cream
strawberry wawa
happy monkey
red velvet
starlight
the lemon flavor is excellent as well but doesn't appear to be on the menu ATM.
**Be sure to try the monthly flavors** -
Review from Pam A.
It is 9am, and the box of cupcakes from Sweet Pockets that a co-worker brought in to work is empty, and the treats have all but disappeared. All but one.
Maybe it's just me, but I feel cupcakes should be enjoyed as an afternoon treat, and not something to be paired with my morning coffee. So my cupcake sat perfectly positioned next to my computer, waiting for it's moment this afternoon. But under the immense pressure of my pod-mates, I caved in and ate my cookies & cream cupcake.
I normally don't enjoy cupcakes, but I was very impressed. The icing tasted just like the center of an Oreo cookie. And the cupcake itself was fantastic! Just enough of that cookie flavor, and the cake was light and fluffy.
While I did enjoy the cupcake I couldn't help but think: why eat this Oreo themed cupcake when I could really just... eat an Oreo cookie?
I guess I don't like cupcakes that much, and while this one was very tasty, it was not out of this world. -

Thank you Sweet Pockets for coming to Vinings!!!
Best cupcakes I ever had. I ordered half a dozen so I could sample different flavors and finished them all in less than 24 hours. I know that's gross.
So now I must rank the flavors. Coming in at #1 is.....
1) Red Velvet!! (i got 2 of these) - This is the best red velvet anything I have ever had. Just absolutely amazing. If you're only going to try one cupcake try this one.
2) Cookies and Cream
3) Happy Monkey
4) Lemon Sunshine
5) Bailey's Kiss - my friend loved this one. It was good but I liked the other ones better.
OK so half a dozen cupcakes cost $14. BUT....quality is more important than quantity and in this case you are paying for good stuff! The cupcakes are small but that's a good thing. I hate the feeling I get after downing a cupcake on steroids - remorse, guilt, anger, hatred.
I would pick SP over Sprinkles any day. -

Aw friends, I'm afraid I can only give out 3 stars for these cupcakes. They were really just ok...and I have to confess, I've eaten a lot of cupcakes in my day, so I feel like I can say this with integrity.
The shop itself was cute enough, tucked away on a little corner across from the Vinings Inn Restaurant, but I have to say--the cupcakes did not wow me--either in their presentation or taste. Instead of getting a regular size cupcake (which was reasonably priced around 2.50--the cheapest I've yet found in ATL), I decided to increase my taste testing by snagging a few different flavors in the mini sizes (at about $1 per cake). Side road: this, I think, is a great idea--to offer mini's in the same flavors as your regular size cupcakes--it gives your customers a chance to get to know your flavors while only committing to a bite of each! And if you're like me, you'll probably end up spending more money this way because your eyes are bigger than your stomach...and they're just mini's after all!
Back on track...while I did like getting to feast on more than one flavor (I tried more that I'm willing to admit in writing), I have to say I was not really impressed by any of them. I don't know that I've ever really thought long and hard about the difference between a cupcake and a muffin, but I think these cupcakes may have shed a little light on the subject for me. I really felt that each had the consistency of sort of pound cake or cornbready muffin--which may appeal to those who like more subtle, familiar textures--but for me, was really just dry, not cakey--and lacking that special, unique flavor and texture that i hope for when I bite into a cupcake. The icing was yummy enough, but once it was gone (just a small dollop on top of the cake) my desire to finish the cake disappeared completely.
I feel bad for giving a not so great review--especially since they're actually offering a Yelp special (4 cupcakes for $5, I think) this week--but a girls gotta be straight up about cupcakes, you know what i'm sayin. I think they could definitely do more with their product--b/c they've got a great location and a cute concept as far as the "sweet pockets" go. Their prices are reasonable, but I would honestly rather pay the extra $1 or 50 cents for little more flavor and a little less muffin/pound cakeyness. -

As much as I love cupcakes and make it a point to try new ones all the time in many cities around the country (even Skagway, Alaska), I have to say this is my least favorite and would not go back. I bought 6 different ones and found them to be dry, crumbly and tasteless. The frosting was flavorless and greasy. I had four kids/teenagers try them and they wouldn't eat them either. Not really sure how they are in business.

I've tried so hard to get on the cupcake bandwagon. I jump on and then get thrown off.
I wanted to support local businesses so much that I bought 3 groupons. I was pretty disappointed. The cupcakes are dry and crumbly while the frosting is oily. I like the idea of the flavor combinations but they just did not deliver. I've had all the flavors but they were just so bland. The carrot cake is probably the best.
Cute shop, terrible location, and parking is the worst. I've def been stuck at that stupid intersection for 20 minutes at 2pm on a Monday (but I guess that's not their fault). Much prefer Chockie Pink's and Metrotainment's cupcakes.Listed in: Sweet Thang

Review from Lisa B.
I have been craving the Happy Monkey cupcake ever since my first Sweet Pockets experience. I went ahead and ordered some for this past Saturday. I ordered some Happy Monkey, Red Velvet, Vegan Midnight and King cupcakes.
Happy Monkey is still my favorite.
Red Velvet was just alright. It was really really sweet for red velvet. Maybe it was the butter cream icing instead of cream cheese.
The Vegan Midnight is super rich and comes in just behind the Happy Monkey. Don't let the vegan throw you off, this cupcake is off the charts delicious.
The King cupcake just didn't do it for me. It's basically a chocolate cookie cupcake. Think oreo and chocolate. I think my problem is I don't like the cookies in the cake. It makes the texture of the cupcake much firmer and not as delicious. This cupcake probably would rock my face off if it was plain chocolate cupcake with chocolate oreo icing. Same goes for the cookies and cream cupcake. It would be better if the icing was the cookies and cream part, not the cake itself.
Anyway, I'll be sticking to Happy Monkey and Vegan Midnight. There are still others I have to try so be on the lookout for updates!
On a side note, going to pick up my cupcakes was a nightmare. Yoforia was celebrating their grand opening by giving away free yogurt. The parking lot was total grid lock. If this traffic situation keeps being a problem it will probably deter me from making future cupcake runs.Listed in: You down with OTP?

Not the best cupcakes I've ever had, but they're still pretty good, basic cupcakes. The flavor of the month is a cool feature. Prices are middle of the road and the shop is pretty unpretentious and quiet. My favorite flavors include:
- Happy Monkey (Banana Nut + Peanut Butter Icing)
- Red Velvet
- Midnight (Chocolate + Chocolate)
- Cappuccino (my favorite!) -

Cupcakes were pretty good, but honestly I had a better cupcake at Atlanta Cupcake Factory.
If you have live in the Marietta area, this is a good eatery, but if you live anywhere inside the peremiter go to the other place. Much better for the same price. -

Okay given how many times I have visited this place since my last review an update is definitely warranted. I think I just visited on an off day and didn't try the flavors that I am not in love with. I have learned that when they run out of cupcakes for the day, they close. Although this can make for some disappointment it is nice to know that you are going to get really fresh cupcakes.
When I returned I tried their "Classic Blondie" which is essentially vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. That is what they say is in it but I am pretty sure it also has a little crack in it because holy moly are those things good. The cake is really moist and soft and the buttercream is creamy without being overly sugary. One of the employees told me that part of the reason the vanilla is so good is because they use a high quality bourbon vanilla. That definitely explains the richness of the flavor. The "classic blondie" is the best example I have ever seen of how vanilla can be just as flavorful as something like chocolate.Listed in: Sweet Tooth Tour

I have an unhealthy obsession with cupcakes. I always stop when I see a bakery, I make them at least once a week, and I even have a wooden art piece with a cupcake on it that says "Calm down and have a cupcake."
That being said, I went to Sweet Pockets this morning and got 5 cupcakes. I told the girl that they were not all for me, and I promise that I had every intention of sharing, but...umm...they disappeared.
I got the special flavor of the month (strawberry cheesecake), Happy Monkey (banana cupcake with peanut butter icing), Cookies and Cream, Lemon Sunshine, and Cookies + Mint. I had the strawberry cheesecake first, and oh my Lord, it was amazing. I am not a big fan of icing, and I'd eaten all of it before I had even bitten into the cupcake. It wasn't too sweet and it was SO SOFT! I must know their secret. And the cupcake itself was so moist. It even had a bit of strawberry jelly inside of it for a wonderful surprise. I think I may go back and get more of this one. The rest were amazing as well, although I'm not a huge fan of the peanut butter and banana combination, I still finished the cupcake.
This is my new go-to spot for cupcakes! They also have mini cupcake versions that are $1 each, so if you want a little something sweet, look no further! -
Review from Jeff L.
Since we had a $15 gift certificate purchased through Half Off Depot, we decided to check this place out this past weekend. We've only gone out to one other cupcake place in the area, which we did very much enjoy. However, I have to say that Sweet Pockets delivered an overall better cupcake experience.
The coupon allowed us to get six of their flavors. They have numerous to choose from, but we narrowed it down to: Cookies & Cream, Mint & Cookies, Raz Taz, Happy Monkey, Red Velvet, and Lemon Sunshine. Overall, I really enjoyed all of their cupcakes, with the exception of the Raz Taz (chocolate and raspberry flavored), which was all right, but nothing spectacular. Notably, my wife also didn't care for it as much. The rest were all delectable, with the Red Velvet being simple, but probably each of our favorites (although the Happy Monkey was pretty high up there as well!).
Importantly, the cake parts of their cupcakes were dense and rich, but also very moist. They're not light and fluffy as you can find with other cupcakes, so keep that in mind if that's the kind of cake consistency you prefer. For me, I really enjoyed the richness of the cake.
The cupcakes are all topped with a generous portion of butter cream icing, which is (of course) tailored to fit with the overall taste of the cupcake. Most notable in this department was the Happy Monkey (peanut butter and banana themed), for which the icing tasted like smooth peanut butter. My only complaint is that they are perhaps a bit too generous with their butter cream portions. Generally, I think the cupcakes are topped with too much icing, so much so that it can start to detract from the overall cupcake (with some bites, all you taste is the icing). This knocked it down one star, but wasn't a large issue for me or my wife.
All in all, I think we've found our new favorite cupcake place in the area. We'll definitely be coming back the next time we have a craving. -

I need to stop as SP is starting to become a problem.
I should dock them for their minimum credit card payment amount, but why should I? I now have to get two cupcakes instead of one! Today I had the red velvet and a blondie. The red velvet (she could put just a tiny bit more baking chocolate in the batter) I ate in the car on the way back to work and literally licked cupcake wrapper clean. I'm eating the blondie as we speak. Both were super moist & the icing is to die for.

Great location. Cute store. Terrible cupcakes.
I have been wanting to give this place a try for a while. I was more than disappointed with my cupcakes and could have waited a lot longer.
We tried the Red Velvet, Happy Monkey and the Lemon Something.
The cupcakes were DRY and HEAVY. Seriously way too heavy for a cupcake. I expected them to be moist and break apart easily. They did not. It's almost like they were a couple of days old, but I don't think that is the problem.
The flavors of the cupcakes were good, although the red velvet didn't taste anything like red velvet. They just required so much effort to chew.
I didn't even bother to finish an entire cupcake. It just wasn't worth the calories and effort. And I think they are a bit overpriced. At $2.50 each, I would expect a full-size cupcake. -
Review from Amrita R.
I don't like peanut and bananas and that seems to be the most popular flavor here so I was debating whether or not I had the guts to try it..
I guess it worked out since they didn't have any when I stopped by! I love love LOVE the mini cupcake option for $1 each. Such a great way to try a bigger variety but not get stuck with a large amount if you don't like it.
I tried the starlight, the midnight, the chocolate king, and the mint chocolate.
My favorite was definitely the mint chocolate, and I promise it's not because I'm obsessed with all things mint chocolate.. The frostings were all definitely buttercream, and the two chocolate ones were a bit much. I liked the random chocolate chips in the starlight but mint definitely won out. I saved it for last and just finished it.
This is a gem among all the ATL cupcake shops, check it out! :)
PS. The store is adorable and has lots of cutesy stuff for purchase. -

I am upgrading my rating to the lower side of 3.5 stars. This place really isn't ALL that bad. I tried more cupcake flavors and discovered I had a favorite in the vegan midnight. It is a lot more moist and richer than the other cupcakes, especially the classic midnight. The red velvet tastes like ass though, I cannot even believe they are getting away with passing what they call red velvet off in Georgia. But they do get a point for allowing pre-ordering of cupcakes if you call ahead, that way you don't waste your time driving up there just to discover everything is gone.

I finally had a chance to make it over to the Vinings area to grab a hold of a few of these cupcakes. I went along with my mother ..she decided on the strawberry, me....the key lime.
The cupcakes were just...ehhh ok. The cake defintiely couldve been a little more moist. The icing....I didnt care for. I would probably give the shop another try as it couldve just been a bad day. They come up with great flavor ideas I just hope the they perfect the cake. -

Oh Sweet Pockets, yer the best! I love the mini-cupcakes too! That means i can eat all different flavors and feel like I just ate ONE! (I know I am fooling myself, but just nod yer head and make me feel better!)
My favorite flavor is the chocolate cake with the peanut butter icing!!! I don't think she makes this on regular, but I order them special and they are so delish!
I love that they can customized the cupcakes by putting flags in them with whatever logo you want! That comes in handy for special events and birthdays!

As much as I wanted to like them and their chocolate cupcakes with chocolate butter cream frosting, I didn't! Don't get me wrong but when a chocolate cupcake is called midnight, I expect a rich and decadent treat! And that cupcake failed me on OH so many levels!! Perhaps I don't like butter cream as much as I though I did..give me some good ole' cream cheese icing any day!!Their space is cute and they sell everything from cupcakes to locally made tea, lotions, and yes chap stick! They have some really interesting cupcakes such as pumpkin ( the best one of them all!!! it was moist and oh so yummy!),smores, lemon..etc.. I just think the cupcake recipe it's self needs a little punch.

Whoa sugar!
One of our wonderful regular customers at the tatty shack and I, always end up discussing our favorite source for sweets. After many convos about why I don't eat ice cream and how much I actually prefer cake or pie. He relented on trying to get me to the ice cream pallor next door and brought me cupcakes. a big ol' sexy box of CUPCAKES! That man is one fine gentleman.
Anywho what he brought was a box brimming with a selection of sweet pocket's treats. My co-workers and i devoured the contents. Then we all ran the half minute mile around the block with out touching the pavement. SUGAR OVERLOAD. Now in my world that's the kinda stuff I live for.
we tried,
the Starlight- a cute yummy white cake chocolate chip confection, sprinkled with pink sugar and jimmy stars, delightful
The lemon - was light and tangy, full of lemon flavor
The strawberry- was little girls dream of unicorn flight
The s'more- was an awesome chocolate cake on a graham cracker crust, fantastic
The oreo- i'm told was super yum, I HATE oreos, so I didn't try it myself
The butter cream is out of this world, the cake is dense and tasty. The little cakes are so cute ,I think them ideal for special occasions and such.
Damn fine confections. -

I consider myself something of a cupcake connoisseur-I know how I like my cupcakes, simple as that. We moved to Vinings not too long ago and while moving in I looked across the street and saw Sweet Pockets and jumped for joy. We previously lived in the Highlands and we would see Sweet Pockets' little stand in Inman Park when we would go get Jake's ice cream. I knew they had moved but having never tried their cupcakes I didn't think much of it.
So on a blistering hot Sunday afternoon my man-friend and I decided to stop by and check out what they have to offer. We were the only customers in the cute little store so we had all the time in the world to decide which flavors we wanted. Two for one? Awesome! I ended up getting the red velvet and the raztaz and my boyfriend got the happy monkey and the raztaz and we also ordered one fresh squeezed lemonade to go. We arrived home and I was anxious to open the cute little package my cupcakes were in and dive in. I began with the raztaz and after some technical difficulties (dumping the whole thing in my lap) I took my first bite and I was met with moist chocolatey-raspberry-ness. MMMM. Between cupcakes I sipped on the fresh lemonade that was so refreshing and the perfect mixture of sweet/tart. Next I dove into the red velvet (which just happened to be blue) and this was without a doubt the best cupcake I have ever had. I can still taste it in my mouth! It was so moist and delicious.
I will DEFINITELY be returning to Sweet Pockets. And one last thing to say, Atlanta Cupcake Factory better step up its game!Listed in: My Neighborhood

I really like Sweet Pockets. Do I think they are the best cupcakes on the planet? No. But in addition to being good, they have many things going for them. 1.) They are dainty so I don't feel like I've overindulged after I've had one. Or three. 2.) There are interesting flavor varieties. 3.) The Irwin St. Market location is lovely. 4.) They have cupcake bingo! Lennie is a vibrant young woman who has a good product and good skill as a hostess and entrepreneur. I cheer her on and enjoy her cupcakes regularly.

The flavors are good, the frosting is horribly greasy, and the cake is as dry and crumbly as cornbread. I bought a bunch of certificates on line to give out as presents-thank goodness the recipients know it's the thought that counts. They already knew of the store and threw them away! I insisted on trying it twice (with my certificates) and they were right. Even my ravenous teens wouldn't eat these cupcakes.

While the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the cupcakes were dry and nothing to get excited over. I tried the cookies and cream and strawberry. Both had a little "pocket" of filling. I didn't like the way the frosting was applied, kind of in a pile, not covering all of the top of the cupcake. The cupcakes were small and dry...that's all I remember.

I frikkin love these cupcakes and I have NEVER had a dry one yet. Ive ordered from Sweet Pockets twice for birthdays and we always had rave reviews from everyone at the party saying they were the best cupcakes ever. Maybe its the ones I like and order that are extra good, but they are orgasmic good indeed. I usually hate cake overall---especially the icing part. But SP's icing is so light and not at all pasty and overly sweet, just the way I like it. It almost tastes like ice cream to me. Ive tried duplicating her recipe at home and I have frustratingly failed each time.
My fav is the Raz taz (raspberry/chocolate with rasp icing and filling) and the cookies and Mint. I think all their oreo flavors taste just like cookies & cream ice cream, which is back to that awesome icing again. My husband wants to make sweet love to the Happy Monkey one.
Ive had a couple of the other flavors, but I think those outshine them all. I also had a flavor of the month a while back that was amazing----a peach one, but its not on the menu anymore, sadly.
Cant wait for another excuse to get downtown and order a big batch. -

I was very excited to find a cupcake bakery in the Smyrna/Vinings area. Much to my dismay, the cupcakes weren't nearly as good as other competitors in the Atlanta area. The banana flavored cupcake with peanut butter icing was a good concept, but the banana cupcake was not as good as some banana bread I've had before. The peanut butter icing was the star. I was quite disappointed with the cookies and cream. The cupcake was dry and its pretty hard to mess up an oreo flavored cupcake! The frosting was mostly greasy and left a very strong "oily" feeling in my mouth when I was done.

I'm a big fan of Sweet Pockets! My former place of employment was within walking distance of the old Irvin Street location... guess where I found that extra tend pounds?
My absolute favorite flavor is the Almond Sweetheart, but it's a monthly special. If you're there when they have one, you MUST try it. Depending on my mood, I will also go for the light and tangy Lemon or the decadent RazTaz. The pockets of filling add a little extra oomph, and since I'm not a fan of that nasty store cake icing, I adore her rich and not too sticky sweet buttercream.
Lennie, the owner, also rocks my socks! She whipped up three dozen minis for my birthday with less than 48 hours notice, and they were the bomb. I'm so glad she's still doing well in business, and hope she becomes an Atlanta fixture. -

NOT TASTY! The cupcakes were cute and staff friendly but I will never buy cupcakes here again. I purchased cookies and cream flavor for my sister's birthday. She tasted one and thought they were blueberry muffins. They were not sweet at all. Don't know how they make their cupcakes but it's not with cake mix or sugar. Also too expensive for the taste.

I'll start off by saying I've tried several cupcake places in town: Little Cake Bakery, Atlanta Cupcake Factory and Cami Cakes in search for the best cupcakes in Atlanta (curse you Food Network ;)-) and Sweet Pockets are among the best I've had so far. I wish I could give them 4.5 stars as that's what I really feel they deserve. Lauren who usually mans the front is ALWAYS sweet and helpful. I love the fact that they make mini cupcakes (and on a regular basis) because usually I prefer to have a little taste of everything. The cupcakes are moist, not too dense, fresh and always have enough frosting (and I'm a frosting junkie). I've had every flavor and my favorites so far (in no particular order) the Earl Grey (flavor of the month one month), Raz Taz, Red Velvet, Cookies and Cream, and Strawberry Cheesecake (special flavor). I'm probably forgetting one... The regular size cupcakes are $2.50 each but that is the same as any other cupcake shop in Atlanta - Starbucks even charges $2.25 for theirs and they are not half as good as the ones at Sweet Pockets. Sweet Pockets also runs specials sometimes like buy one get one free (thanks to being a fan on Facebook for the notification) and they have some great special flavor offerings. I'd come here over the other three I mentioned in a heartbeat(although Cami Cakes is a close second. Atlanta Cupcake Factory uses predominantly cream cheese frostings on their cupcakes so they are completely out of contention for me). Some of the Facebook fans have requested chocolate bacon cupcakes and they are considering it - hmmmm bacon!!! I love this place and I'm already thinking about which flavor I want for my birthday...
